TravelRe: Shocking: Popular Cities That Are Not Capitals Of Their Countries. by IamShiningStar(f): 9:28pm On Nov 23, 2018
davodyguy:
Believe it or not, this thread would shock a lot of people as i was shocked.

There are some cities that are very popular in some countries that we think they're the national capitals, whereas they're not.

Lets Start.

1. Dubai: Dubai is not a country as many people might believe. You hear people say "I'm going to Dubai'.
Dubai is a city in a country called UAE (United Arab Emirates) The capital of UAE is not Dubai, rather it is Abu Dhabi
Dubai is the largest city not a country or capital.

2. Johannesburg: Nigeria played South Africa last Saturday and i'm sure a lot of Nigerians would think Johannesburg is the capital.
Interestingly, South Africa has three capital cities, none of which are "Jo'Burg". Divided by branch of government, the capitals are: capital of the judiciary is Bloemfontein, capital of the administrative branch is Pretoria with Cape Town acting as the country's legislative capital.

3. Sydney: Since the Olympics in year 2000 (Sydney 2000) A lot of people think Sydney is the capital of Australia. It is not. Iconic though its harbor and opera house may be, it doesn't get star billing. Canberra, which is just a few years away from its centennial celebration, is actually capital of the land. It is not Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.

4. Munich/Frankfurt: Many Nigerians would know Munich and Bayern Munich or 1860 Munich, likewise Frankfurt when JJ Okocha played in Germany. Well the Capital of Germany is Berlin.

5. Istanbul, Turkey: It may have served as capital to ancient Romans and Ottomans, but that designation is long gone for Istanbul. Ankara, a city that is perhaps most famous for its angora-producing goats, is the capital. Ankara is not the same as Aso Ebi ooo grin Many people might think the capital is 'Galatasaray' or Fenerbahçe

6. Switzerland: This country serves as HQ for many world Organizations like the UN, UNESCO etc. The capital is not Geneva, Neither this nor Zurich serve as this precise country's capital. The picturesque, tranquil, UNESCO-recognized town of Bern holds this honor. Roger Federer is from Basle, but not the capital.

7. Brazil: How many of you think the capital of Brazil is Rio? It's fun, exciting and has something for everyone, but that still doesn't make it Brazil's capital. While the city famous for the carnival used to be the capital, Brasilia now takes that position, not even São Paulo

8. Casablanca: Football fans are familiar with Raja Casablanca and tourists are familiar with Fez or Marrakesh. Not only is Casablanca not the capital of Morocco, neither are the other two top contenders, Fez or Marrakesh. Peaceful and culture-rich Rabat serves as this North African country's capital.

9. USA: In Trump's America, the Capital is not Las Vegas, California, Chicago, Florida or New York City. It is Washington DC

10. Spain: Many may think it is Barcelona, since Lionel Messi plays there. Capital is actually Madrid.

11. Côte d'Ivoire: In drogba's country, the capital is not Abidjan. It is Yamoussoukro

12. Italy: Capital is Rome not Milan or Juventus lol

13. Nigeria: Capital is Abuja not Lagos or Aba grin grin

14. State of Palestine: Capital is actually East Jerusalem and not Gaza City

Dude, the truth is that this is Nigeria and university of Abuja just like any other university in Nigeria have their short comings, I am a current student in uniabuja, economics 400l and I can tell u without any sense of sentiment that uniabuja is getting better, because our current VC hands are on deck to make the school better, check the school accredited courses and compare it to other schools, check the school Achievement over the recent years and compare it to other public uni, check out the course Ur applying for and seek for advice from past student of uniabuja in ya field and get quality advice from them.
Ps: no school is better it all depends on you the student. I hope this helps. Cheers
pls kindly confirm/ verify if they have started admitting law students again after the suspension placed on them some years back? Cos someone wants to put them as first choice, law in this jamb! plus, is their admission process based on merit?
pls any one who has firsthand info on the above could also be of help, to aid us make good decisions.

5+ TOOLS TO START

[img]goo-1.jpg[/img]

You want to rank #1 on Google how do think you do it, people say you need to build link – most people say you need to do On-Page SEO, but where did you start.

Here Today, I am going to share with you 5+ TOOLS to rank #1 on Google.

TOOLS

[b]1. Quicksprout
[/b]

My first tool for you is Quicksprout, its an advanced guide to SEO, when you go to quicksprout.com, you put in your URL it going to breakdown all the things that a wrong and even work you through how to fix it. For example if you not putting in the right keywords in your title tag, Meta description or in your all image tags, Quicksprout will tell you, and it even shows which keywords to add and where, and good thing about Quicksprout, if you not tactical and you want to publishes some changes, you don’t have to know coding, Quicksprout will help publish them all for you. www.qucksprout.com.

2. Yoast SEO Plugin

If you are using WordPress, Yoast SEO is yours. Every time you make publish a blog post it will give you a score and tell how to make your title tag, your Meta Description and pick different keywords and show search engine something different than what you show users. And the best thing about Yoast SEO is you can optimize each and every single of your blog post to get the maximum amount of traffic, and every time you release a knew blog post it even update your site map for you automatically. You can download and activate it in Wordpress plugins.

3. Google Search Console

Google Search Console is (previously Google Webmaster Tool) a no-charge web service by Google for webmasters. Every time you publish like a post in Wordpress Yoast SEO auto-create an extra mail site map, when you submit it to Google Search Console, it will show you how many impressions you a getting, how many clicks you are getting, which pages are popular and even shows you which keywords you are getting alot of impressions for but not alot of clicks and vise versa. You can go on optimize your contents by adding those keywords and your title tags, your meta descriptions, so you can maximize you clicked rate. This will rank your site without building one single link

FoodRe: Ease Of Preparing Bole (Roasted Plantain) Using Gas Cooker by IamShiningStar(f): 1:29pm On Nov 03, 2018
armzyville:
Have you ever tried preparing bole (roasted plantain) at home but end up with a futile result.

All that will be in the past now as I share with you a very easy method of having your roasted plantain well grilled using a gas cooker or kerosene stove.

1. Firstly peel out the unwanted part of the plantain using a knife.

2. place a frying pan on a gas cooker or stove. Make sure the intensity of the fire is not much.

3. Wrap the already peeled plantain in a foil.

3. After about 10-15 minutes, take off the plantatian from your gas cooker and remove the foil wrap from it.

Boom your Bole is ready, waiting to be crushed with your freshly prepared sauce as this below.

https://armzyville..com/2018/10/ease-of-making-bole-roasted-plantain.html?m=1
hmm, so no adding of oil or water to the frying pan for the 15 minutes it will be heating on fire?
pls clarify asap. thanks.

LiteratureRe: 8 Habits Of A Good Freelance Writer by IamShiningStar(f): 11:47pm On Oct 27, 2018
akeentech:
Are you tired of those dry spells that make you return back to begging and asking for work as a freelance writer?

It happens. One day you are flush with so many works, cranking out copy, and making a good income. And after that you realize your freelance marketing endeavors haven’t been all that great.

Projects come to an end. You are paid. And afterward you’re scrambling to find more customers that need a freelance writer.

Been there? Done that?

In case you are that kind of freelance writer, it can be exhausting. It’s kind of like attempting to make your way over a desert with no water. However, it doesn’t need to be that way.

#1. Write epic content

The best paying businesses and blogs are not looking for fluff. They are looking for 1 of these 3 things:

1. Inspiration
2. Entertainment
3. Education and how-to posts
In case you’re writing something to share to the world, ensure it does one of these three things. If you will blog on your own site, or you are writing for clients, do your best work. Your link or byline can help send more customer work your way.

#2. Go beyond expectations

Stand out as an author by going beyond writing a decent post.

For instance, if you’re writing a how-to post, add data, screenshots or examples to demonstrate your point. That’s the distinction between being a normal freelance writer who gets a one-and-done assignment, and the freelance writer clients continue sending work to. Which would you rather be?

#3. Do a good job, and make sure everybody knows about it

When you accomplish something to stand out, it has a tremendous effect. Also, people should know about it. As a fully booked freelance writer, you should work a little uniquely in contrast to most. Rather than simply fixing grammar and typos help writers to improve their style and voice, and connect with readers. Furthermore, it’s a game changer.

Don’t have any testimonials? After you complete a task for a client, ask for a testimonial through LinkedIn, email, or another platform you prefer. After that, promote the hell out of it. Do a good job, and make sure everyone knows about it.

#4. Self-Publish a book

There’s no better way to indicate you’re a specialist in your niche than writing a book. Truly, you can do this. Furthermore, you don’t a publisher, a book contract or an agent.

When I was posted to a remote area for an NYSC, I needed to continue earning cash while I took time off. So I wrote some books.

It such a perfect example of why writing is one of the best jobs for a freelancer or anybody who wants flexibility. I published my book before the NYSC came to an end, then enjoyed making money via book sales even while I took time off.

Not just will self-publishing e-books give you another revenue source, it will enhance your credibility to write for greater clients as well.

#5. Find bigger clients with more ongoing work

What amount of time have you spent written one single letter and shopping it around to various magazines to land an assignment?

There’s nothing wrong with this kind of writing. Awesome magazine writing gigs pay $1/word or more. However, it’s generally a one-and-done kind of task. And after that you need to start the pitching process all over again.

In the event that you want to write for magazines, good. However, in the event that you need a less demanding way to remain fully-booked as a freelance writer, focus around finding clients who will have continuous work so you can invest more time writing… and less time pitching.

Cold pitching prospects by writing a letter of introduction, or connecting through LinkedIn is a brilliant strategy to land more clients. Resources like the Junk Free Job Board in the Freelance Writers Den can likewise help you find customers or clients with ongoing content needs.

#6. Use data to write about high-traffic topics

What are your ideal clients discussing? Or on the other hand in case you are writing for a client, what topic should you write about to drive traffic and increase audience engagement.

Don’t guess. Rather, utilize free tools like SocialCount.co or BuzzSumo.com to discover which posts and topics your target audience or readers love and share the most.

When you use data to pick your key phrases or topics, and after that write an epic post with heaps of helpful information, you are going to increase your reach and be seen by many people. Also, some of that traffic will return to you in the form of prospects who want to hire you.

#7. Be open-minded

You never know when another freelance writing work opportunity is going to present itself. Be liberal.

A one off job could become an ongoing work. Perhaps a writing task will turn into a ghostwriting, an editing or speaking opportunity.

I have had blog writing jobs turn into ghostwriting, blog editing, ghostwriting, online course writing/editing, book editing and speaking gigs.

Assess and evaluate your current customers. Is there any potential for more work? Or on the other hand have you asked your current customers or clients for referrals? Opportunities and chances to move up and earn more are all over the place. You just have to look and be open minded to discover them.

#8. Do it scared

Virtually majority of the milestones in freelance career involved taking risks to do things I wanted to run from for fear of failure. But I believe if you are not uncomfortable, you are not growing and developing.

What are you afraid of? Making more money, failure, charging higher rates, or working with big name clients or brands? Face your fears then do it anyway.

Make a connection
Pitch an idea with a query letter
Send an LOI
Learn to use analytics and data
Ask for referrals
Write a book
Pitch a guest post
Keep marketing

Be a fully booked freelance writer

You’ll only realize what you’re capable of if you keep reaching outside your comfort zone and hustling. That’s how you become a fully booked freelance writer. Consistently do these eight things and you will never need to search for work or write for pennies again.

FUNDAMENTAL ACHIEVEMENTS AS GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE (PARTIAL LISTING)

1. Anambra was the first State to commence Sub-Sovereign Wealth savings, the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa. At a time many other Governors were leaving huge debts, I left the equivalent of $500 million Dollars in investment as well as local and foreign currency, including $156 million in Dollar-denominated bonds.

2. For the first time in the history of Anambra State, Ambassadors and High Commissioners of notable countries such as United States, Britain, Russia, European Union, South Africa, Belgium, Israel, the Netherlands, Canada, among others, visited the State. Before my tenure, Anambra was practically a pariah state blacklisted by the Diplomatic Corps and international development partners.

3. Development partners such as UNDP, UNICEF, the World Bank, DFID, the European Union etc., which hitherto were not in Anambra State started working with the State. Anambra was consistently adjudged one of the best states in development partnership and commitment to reforms for good governance.

4. He was recognised as Best Governor by the Millennium Development Goals Office (OSSAP-MDGs) and the UNDP in the implementation of their programmes in Nigeria.

5. The Nigerian Debt Management Office (DMO) rated Anambra as the least indebted state in Nigeria. In spite of visible and measurable achievements recorded in various sectors, the State under him did not borrow or raise bonds for her various projects.

6. The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria rated Anambra State as the most financially stable state in the country.

7. The State's ground-breaking return of schools to their original owners - Voluntary Agencies (Churches) on 1st January 2009, and subsequent partnership with the Agencies in Education, saw the State move from 24th position out of 36 States to Number One in National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) examinations for three consecutive years. This made the World Bank to commission a study, led by the renowned Prof. Paul Collier of Oxford University, on this revolutionary partnership and phenomenal achievement.

8. The State also entered into strategic partnership with the Churches in the Health sector. This symbiotic relationship resulted in a tremendous boost to health care because of the services offered by health institutions owned by Voluntary Agencies, while the State restored grants to the agencies and made available to them more than 50 million Dollars in various types of support.

10. Through partnership with the Church in the Health sector, his Government funded the transformation of -:

a: Iyienu Hospital, Ogidi;
b: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala;
c: St Charles Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha;
d: Holy Rosary Hospital, Waterside, Onitsha; and
e: St. Joseph Hospital, Adazi-Nnukwu.
His Government also built the Joseph Nwilo Heart Centre in St. Joseph, Adazi-Nnukwu, where heart operations are now being performed.

11. His Government won the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (1 Million dollars) as the best-performing state in immunisation in the South-East. With complementary funding from our Government, they used the money to build 10 Maternal and Child Care Centres across the State, particularly in rural communities, in partnership with the Churches.

12. The State was the first to procure and distribute more than 30,000 computers to secondary schools, including 22,500 from HP. The Managing Director for Personal Systems Group HP Inc, Mr. FabriceCampoy described the deployment as the biggest of such projects in the Middle-East and Africa.

13. Anambra State Government provided Microsoft Academies to more than 500 secondary schools, which the Head of Microsoft in Nigeria (Mr. Ken Span) described as the biggest such deployment in Africa so far.

14. The State provided Internet access to more than 500 secondary schools, which the CEO of Galaxy Backbone (Mr. Gerald Ilukwe) characterized as incomparable to any in the country.

15. More than 700 buses were provided to secondary schools in the State by our Government.

16. Boreholes were provided in schools all over the State.

17. Numerous classrooms were built in all the 177 communities of the State.

18 As part of the efforts to turn around the economy of the State, a number of companies were attracted to build their facilities in the Anambra State. A case in point is SABMiller, the 2nd largest brewery in the world, which built their first Green Field facility in the State, which is today one of the most successful facilities they operate globally.

19. A number of other companies followed the SABMiller initiative and were all supported and encouraged under our Government; a good example is INNOSON Motor Manufacturing Company, from which our government bought more than 1,000 vehicles.

20. Anambra State for the first time started close collaboration with recognized government security agencies (the Police, Army, Navy, Department of State Security, Civil Defence, among others), offering them various types of support including provision of more than 500 security vehicles. The improvement in security was phenomenal, such that the former IG of Police (Abubakar Mohammed) lauded Anambra State for not witnessing any bank robbery in my last three years in office.

21. To further enhance security, Anambra State provided at least one security vehicle to each of all the 177 communities in the State as well as various organizations such as markets and Churches.

22. His Administration conceived and built, from scratch, the first state-owned Teaching Hospital, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu teaching Hospital, Awka.

23. His Government commenced the planned development of the Igbariam Campus of the ChukwuemekaOdumegwu-Ojukwu University, including the fencing, construction of internal roads, electrification, construction of the Faculty of Law, Auditorium, Administrative Block, Faculty of Agriculture, Management Building, among others).

24. His Government attracted the World Bank support on erosion - National Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) - to Anambra State.

25. His Government was the first to do Poverty Mapping in Nigeria, as a guide for the effective implementation of our poverty-alleviation strategies.

26 His Government, for the first time, undertook the aerial mapping of Awka as well as the production of Structure Plans for Awka Capital Territory, Onitsha and Nnewi.

27. During his tenure and with his Government's support, Anambra State became an oil producing State.

28. He built the first Secretariat Complex to house State Government Ministries that were hitherto scattered around the State.

29. His government commenced the development of the 'Three Arms Zone' comprising Government House/Governor’s Lodge, Legislative Building/Speakers Residence, and Judiciary Building with Chief Judge’s Residence.

30. By the end of his tenure in 2014, more than twelve (12) health institutions, including two hospitals, had secured accreditation; when we took off in 2006, no health institution in Anambra State was duly accredited.

31. Anambra State was the first to undergo national peer review, which scrutinised State Governments for good governance, through the State Peer Review Mechanism (SPRM), an initiative of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum in collaboration with the DFID.

Smartphone cameras let you take advantage of every available photo opportunity. But they can do more than take pictures of partying friends and sweeping landscapes.

With the right apps, your camera can perform feats from translating texts to scanning paperwork.

Here are some of its handiest superpowers.

Translate foreign text
With a typical translation app, you have to tap out text in a foreign language and then convert it to your native tongue, or vice versa. This can be a tedious process—especially if a server is hovering over you waiting to take your food order. Here’s a better idea: Scan the menu (or any other document) with your phone’s camera and instantly view the English translation.

You can work this trick on any phone with the free Google Translate app (for Androidand iOS). Once you download the program, open it and choose the languages you’ll require—the one to be translating from and the one to be translated to—from the drop-down menus at the top of the screen. Then tap the Instant translate button, which looks like a camera with a little plus sign inside. Now point your phone’s camera at foreign text, from road signs to paper documents, and the screen will display the translated words as if by magic.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy phone, version S8 or later, you can pull off the same feat with the native camera app. Just open it and tap the Bixby Vision button, which looks like an eye symbol, on the lower left-hand side of the screen. Then point your camera at a document, and the phone will automatically detect the language and translate the foreign words into your phone’s default tongue.

Explore the night sky
Gazing up at the stars on a clear night is dreamy, but you can make that experience even better by identifying which dot of light is which. With the right app, your phone’s camera will act as a star guide. Point it at the heavens, and visual overlays will tell you whether the object you’ve spotted is the International Space Station or the star Polaris.

Our top pick is Star Walk 2 (for Android and iOS), which offers a nicer design and more features than similar apps. It relies on your location and input from the phone’s internal gyroscope to pinpoint constellations, passing satellites, and other objects. You can also use it to see how the night sky changes as you move forward or backward in time, read up on the cosmos, and view 3-D models of constellations. The app is free with ads or $3 without.

As a runner-up, we like SkyView (for Android and iOS). Although its interface isn’t quite as polished as Star Walk 2’s, it can still act as a very competent guide to cosmic objects natural and man-made, with plenty of information on both. The app also has a handy feature to send you alerts about upcoming stargazing events. These baseline abilities are free, or you can pay a $1 fee to gain access to more detailed sky maps, as well as bonuses like a version of the app for your Apple Watch.

Add augmented reality
Want to see digital graphics overlaid on your phone camera’s view of the world? You have more options than ever before: Both Android and iOS are adding augmented reality tweaks to their respective platforms, and third-party app developers are also jumping on the AR bandwagon.

To dip a toe into the AR waters, start with Snapchat (for Android and iOS). Install the photo and video messaging app, open the camera screen, and tap anywhere on the scene. Snapchat will immediately display a variety of AR stickers, which you can preview with a tap. Then adjust your angle, place the sticker where it fits best, and take a photo or video as normal.

If Snapchat isn’t for you, you can still enjoy AR on your phone. A few examples: PGA Tour AR (for iOS only) places golf holes on top of nearby surfaces like your kitchen counter, Inkhunter (for Android and iOS) lets you preview tattoos on your skin before you apply any needles, and the Ikea Catalog app (for Android and iOS) will drop AR versions of furniture into your real rooms so you can check out how they look.

Digitize paper documents
The world hasn’t gone paperless yet, but you should do your part by converting paper documents into digital form. Thanks to your phone’s camera, you can scan everything from bank statements to business cards and then keep them on your local storage or upload them to the cloud.

While you can always snap photos of documents and keep them in your default photo app’s gallery, a dedicated app will provide extra features like automatic cropping and even text recognition (so you can easily search through your scanned pages). For a full list of apps, check out this guide to paperless apps and gadgets. Of the items on the list, we like Google Drive and Dropbox best.

The versions of Google Drive for Android and iOS can both scan documents: Tap the Plus icon and choose Scan. However, only the Android app offers automatic optical character recognition—you won’t find that ability in the iOS app.

Dropbox (for Android and iOS) also includes an integrated document-scanning feature that employs your phone’s camera: From the front screen of the app, tap the Plus button, then Scan document. If you pay for a Professional ($20 per month) or Business account ($12 per user per month), you’ll also unlock automatic optical character recognition and document-searching abilities.

Look up information
With a little help from the Google Lens technology built into Google Photos for Android (it’s not yet available in the version of the app for iOS, although Google says it’s coming soon), you can snap an image of anything and then receive information about that object.

To employ this trick, use Google Photos to open any image, then tap the Google Lens button, which looks like a simplified camera shape, at the bottom of the screen. The software will recognize an object in the photo, whether it’s a historical landmark or a type of flower, and provide information about it. Think of it like a visual search tool, recognizing everything from celebrities to famous works of art.

If you own a Google Pixel phone, you can also access Lens through Google Assistant. Press and hold the Home button to bring up the Assistant, then tap the Google Lens button on the lower right and point your camera at a target. Tap the screen to confirm that the pictured item is the one you want to learn about, and information will pop up on the display.

Access websites
Photographing a QR code—those squares filled with a random-looking mosaic of black and white tiles—gives you a shortcut to open a relevant website. You’ll find QR codes on menus, package, posters, brochures, stationery, and other items. For example, scanning one of these boxes on a magazine advertisement can lead you to a website with more information about the item or open a special online discount.

Those who own an iPhone can open the default camera app, point the handset at a QR code, and check out the notification that appears. Tap it to read more, including the hidden URL.

On Android, this process gets slightly more convoluted. First snap a picture of the QR code, then pull it up in Google Photos for Android. Finally, tap the Google Lens button (a simplified camera shape) at the bottom of the screen.

Act as watchdog
Your phone can do double duty as a security camera that keeps an eye on your property, pets, or even kids. For this task, you’ll need two devices, one to film the video feed and another to tune into it. An old device that’s been gather dust would be perfect for the job.

One of the best apps we’ve seen is called Manything (for Android and iOS). It lets you tap into the livestream from afar at any time, and it can send alerts when it detects motion in front of the camera. A subscription, which costs $4 to $13, adds the abilities to save footage to the cloud or set up more than one camera.

If you’re focusing on baby monitoring, we like the apps Dormi (for Android only) and Cloud Baby Monitor (for iOS only). Dormi lets you connect to your monitoring phone or tablet from multiple devices, and it automatically amplifies the volume when it detects crying. The free version only provides four hours of monitoring a month; after that, subscriptions cost $1 for a month, $5 for a year, or $9 for life. With Cloud Baby Monitor, you can also tap into a live video feed from any other device. You can also receive alerts when the app detects motion or sound and send audio messages to your child from afar. It costs $4 up front.

Supplement your memory
Although this final application still involves taking photos, they’re not intended for Instagram or Facebook posts. Instead, you can use smartphone images as memory aids. Think about all the times you need to memorize new information, such as the Wi-Fi code at your friend’s house or the way cables fit into the back of your television. You could jot down notes on paper or a memo app, but snapping a photo is faster and easier.

If you’re moving to a new house, photograph the contents of boxes so you remember what’s packed where. On vacation, record your ski or park pass in case you need to replace it as some point. During an overnight stay, photograph your hotel’s list of emergency numbers for future reference. Then, no matter where you go, you’ll have the necessary information close to hand, where you can easily pull it up the next time you need it.
