Politics / Road Dualisation: 1,304 To Get N1.2bn Compensation In Oyo by IB5(f): 1:53pm On Jun 24, 2013
Monday, 24 June 2013
Oyo State government will, in the next two weeks, begin the payment of compensation to the people affected by the road dualisation going on in Ibadan, the state capital and other major towns in the state.

The state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr Bimbo Kolade, said in a statement issued in Ibadan at the weekend that a total sum of N1,214,737,340 would be paid to 1,304 people whose properties were affected by the six dualisation projects.

He listed the roads currently undergoing dualisation as Efunsetan-Toll Gate Phase I; Efunsetan-Podo Roundabout-Toll Gate Phase II in Ibadan; Dugbe-Magazine-Eleiyele with spur to Aleshinloye-Onireke-Agbarigo Road in Ibadan; Ibadan-Oyo-Iseyin Junction-Iseyin-Okeho Junction, Iseyin; Ilorin Expressway-Ikoyi Junction-Takie-Palace-Ogbomoso Grammar School and Ibadan-Oyo Expressway-Iseyin-Oyo Junction-Owode-Akesan-Palace Road.

While 26 people will receive a total sum of N41,520,165 at Efunsetan-Toll Gate Phase I, 108 people at Efunsetan-Podo Roundabout-Toll Gate Phase II will collect N133,232,522.

The 219 people affected at Dugbe-Magazine-Eleyele with spur to Aleshinloye-Onireke-Agbarigo Road will go home with N229,103,660 while 329 people affected by the Ibadan-Oyo-Iseyin Junction-Iseyin-Okeho Junction, Iseyin will collect N241,358,796.
For the 382 people at the Ilorin Expressway-Ikoyi Junction-Takie-Palace-Ogbomoso Grammar School, they will be given N470,503,145,358 while a total sum of N99,019,051 will be paid to the 240 people affected by the Ibadan-Oyo Expressway-Iseyin-Oyo Junction-Owode-Akesan-Palace Road project.

According to the commissioner, the decision to pay the compensation followed the completion of valuation and verification, as well as the submission of the photographs of the affected structures and the verification of title documents submitted by the claimants.

Mr Kolade said that the payment of compensation would be in two phases, with the first phase affecting those affected by the Efunsetan-Toll Gate Phase I and Efunsetan-Podo Roundabout-Toll Gate Phase II in Ibadan, adding that other would follow until all the claimants received their money.

He commended Governor Abiola Ajimobi for his magnanimity in approving the payment to serve as succour for the properties they lost to the road dualisation projects, which, he said, were for the overall development of the state.

At first I concluded it was badbelle that was worrying them, but when the challenge was thrown to provide link and report that says where the idea was brought by the late President, and an authentic reference was given by @Eko ile, I see no reason why the credit should be given to this present president in the name of getting political point. we need to be truthful sometimes.

Politics / Re: See The Hypocrisy!! by IB5(f): 6:24am On Jun 07, 2013
Any state waiting on the federal government to construct federal roads in the state is on a long thing. some thinking governors are already taking up federal roads that have been left untouched for decades by the federal government.

Mile12-ikorodu road is a federal road that the federal government only patches it repeatedly. Already the lagos state government has taken over to reconstruct the road and even widen it plus making bridges where needed for the betterment of lagosians.

Another federal road that the federal government has not been responsible for is Oshogbo-Kwara boundary road. Osun state government knows the importance of the road to the people of the state. Construction and dualization of the road is on, it should be completed by 2014, hopefully.

States must learn not to depend on the federal government for everything.
I wonder what is delaying Lagos, ogun and Oyo state government from making the necessary renovation and extension on Lagos-Ibadan express way. Same as Ikorodu-Sagam express way, it is the worst road is south west.

Politics / Sokoto PDP Disowns National Secretariat by IB5(f): 3:33am On Jun 07, 2013

The state executives said Mr. Wamakko remains their leader.
The Sokoto state chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has disowned the National Working Committee, NWC of the party over its decision to suspend Governor Aliyu Wamakko from the party.
The NWC, after its Wednesday meeting, suspended Mr. Wamakko for alleged anti-party activities.

The decision of the state chapter of the party was announced Thursday in Sokoto in a press conference addressed by the state commissioner of Agriculture, Mohammed Arzuka Tureta, on behalf of the State Working Committee, SWC.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt that Mr. Tureta addressed the media on behalf of the SWC, despite the presence of the chairman, Sabo Madawaki, because the latter cannot communicate in English language.

All the other members of the State Working Committee were also present at the briefing, except the secretary, Aminu Bello who had earlier been suspended by the NWC for accepting to reply a letter sent to the Governor by the National Chairman of the Party, Bamanga Tukur.

The Sokoto PDP leaders in their address said they felt betrayed by the NWC in hastily taking the decision to suspend Mr. Wamakko without recourse to the party executive at the state level which contravenes article 21 of the PDP constitution.

They added that Mr. Wamakko had been a loyal and committed member of the party in the state, under whose leadership the party recorded 100 per cent success in all elective offices.
The state party leaders advised the national secretariat to “stop listening to rumours mongering, hearsay and unsubstantiated claims by Abuja based Sokoto state politicians”.

They also argued that what the PDP needs at this moment is for “all hands to be deck in unity at all levels,” adding that “we wish to affirm our loyalty to his Excellency Governor Magatakarda Wamakko who is the leader of the PDP in Sokoto state”.

Music/Radio / Wizkid's 'Azonto' Among Non-american Summer Songs Of 2013 by IB5(f): 8:14pm On May 30, 2013
Star boy entertainment head and EME singer, Ayo 'Wizkid' Balogun, made it to the top eight non-American summer song of 2013 courtesy of his hit track, 'Azonto'.
According to American entertainment online newspaper, FeedBuzz.com, Wizzy, whose 'Azonto' came 3rd on the chart, is the only African artiste who made the list.
See other songs that made the list.
1. "Blackout" by Wretch 32 feat. Shakka (United Kingdom)
A stripped-down beach house track smothered with beautiful reggae-influenced rapping. It's glorious.

2. "Biglang Liko" by Ron Henley feat. Pow Chavez (Philippines)
Released in January, the track (which translates to "Sudden Turn"wink has fresh synths ideal for summer road trips. The video, however, has a really sick ending.

3. "Azonto" by WizKid (Nigeria)
The title derives from a popular dance movement in West Africa, originating in Ghana. The dance involves traditional African moves like knee bending and hip swaying, combined with wild, complex hand movements that supposedly mimic everyday activities.
Watch video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grPJ8DemVrE

4. "This Love" by Shinhwa (South Korea)
The song talks about the fragility of true love, which goes along with the slow piano at the beginning and ending. It also features a lot of voguing in its choreography, a rarity in boy band territory.

5. "Invader Invader" by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (Japan)
The eternal 12-year-old who brought you the masterpiece called "PonPonPon" releases her latest single, which is currently at #3 in Billboard's Japan Hot 100.

6. "This Is What It Feels Like" by Armin van Buuren feat. Trevor Guthrie (Netherlands)
Bringing the beauty of trance music to the beach houses this season. The special appearance of Ron Jeremy in the video should not be missed.

7. "Big Banana" by Havana Brown feat. R3hab and Prophet (Australia)
Not-so-subtle lyrics aside, the synth hooks from this track is beach-party-worthy.

8. "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams (France)
Sure, the track features an American artist, but not including this French EDM duo in this list would be like not putting on sunscreen before heading to the beach

Politics / 2015: PDP Goes Spiritual To Remove Acn Governor by IB5(f): 2:22pm On May 28, 2013
grin rotfl

PDP goes spiritual as Pastors, Imams pray against ACN
The one-day inter-religious prayer session organized by the PDP National Youth Vanguard lasted for more than three hours.

The Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Thursday went spiritual in its supremacy battle with the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria.
Prayers by both Christian and Muslim Clerics were held at the party secretariat located along Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta.

The PDP also told the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun and the ruling ACN that they should forget about winning a second term in 2015.

The one-day inter-religious prayer session organized by the PDP National Youth Vanguard lasted for more than three hours and was conducted by pastors from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria- John Akinbode, Kinrin Emmanuel and Olusesi Obateye- and Muslim Clerics from Morcaz in Ogun State including Giyath Oyelayo and Moshood Uthman.

Quoting copiously from the Quran and the Bible, the clerics prayed for continued unity of the opposition party as well as their success in the 2015 polls. They further predicted victory for the PDP in the next general elections in the state.

The PDP chairman in Ogun, Adebayo Dayo, said at the prayer session that the people of the state have suffered untold hardship due to the improper handling of the state affairs by the Amosun administration.

Mr. Dayo boasted that with the spiritual war declared against the Amosun administration, the ruling party should be prepared to leave the saddle in the next general election.
“No matter what they do, God is there. If they put themselves in the hole, God will be looking at them.

So, we are using today to tell God what we have been going through,” Mr. Dayo said. “We have been going through hell under the leadership of Governor Ibikunle Amosun and we want to beg God to come to our rescue and I tell you by the grace of God, come 2015 election, we’ll all be there. We shall all be in that office to chase him out.”

“Not long ago, we read it in the papers that PDP is dead in Ogun State. Ibikunle Amosun is deceiving himself. PDP is not dead. PDP is alive. But today is a day of prayer and not campaigns.

“All the bad wishes that they have been saying against our party, all the thinking of our enemies it will be returned to them by the grace of God. PDP is here to stay. PDP is now one. We are PDP under the leadership of our Baba, Chief Obasanjo. Prince Buruji Kashamu is our leader. We are all working together for the success of the PDP in Ogun State.

“Whether ACN likes it or not, there will be no room for them. There will be no room for second term. So, by the grace of God, we are going to take back that office come 2015,” Mr. Dayo said.
He emphasised that prayers had become imperative for the opposition party in its bid to regain its glory in the state; urging members not to relent in their spiritual battle against the ruling ACN. The PDP led the state from 2003 to 2011 when Gbenga Daniel was the governor.

“I will implore our people, both Muslims and Christians to help us. We all pray in our respective houses, but today is a special day for prayers. When you are going to war, you have to pray before going.

“We want to wage war against ACN in Ogun State and that is why we have called the religious clerics from the Muslim and Christian sides to come and tell God on our behalf to be with us in our battle. We are going to war against ACN in Ogun State and we should defeat them by the grace of God.
Mr. Dayo also pointed out that Mr. Amosun was a founding member of PDP in the state.

“We started PDP together and at one time or the other, he went to another party from where he came back to ACN. But we have been staying here all the time. We have been in PDP and we’ll stay in PDP to regain our lost glory come 2015,” he said.
He commended the PDP Youth Vanguard for taking the initiative to organize such an inter-religious prayer session.
“You have done what the elders should have done,” he said.

ACN Replies
The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has described the recent prayer session organised by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to stop the second term bid of Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, as a mockery of religion.

ACN called on PDP to first of all seek God’s forgiveness for the eight years’ sins it committed against the electorate in Ogun State rather than embarking on spiritual warfare against Amosun.

An online statement signed by the state ACN Publicity
Secretary, Sola Lawal, at the weekend, warned PDP to desist from such prayer, stressing that God does not honour such spiritual blackmail shrouded in falsehood.
The youths’ wing of the Engineer Bayo Dayo-led chapter of state chapter of PDP last Thursday launched a spiritual warfare to enable the party defeat Amosun in the 2015 election.

The youths, who organised themselves under the aegis of PDP National Youth Vanguard, at the one-day inter- religious prayer session, also engaged the services of both Christian and Muslim clerics who conducted more than three hours’ prayer session to enable them achieve their aim.

But reacting to the development, Lawal pointed out that it was the prayers of the electorate that “kicked out PDP’s eight years ineptitude administration which left the people of the state with indelible scars”.
He said: “The extent of bloodletting, brigandage and general atmosphere of lawlessness perpetrated by top brass in the government of PDP has never been witnessed in the state.

“It is now a comforting surprise that those who played God yesterday have not only come to realise their dispensability and limitation but also the rapacious reach of retributive justice.”

Lawal described the prayer session as an abominable act, stressing that the PDP was only evoking “divine judgement against itself for its unrighteous and evil acts perpetrated against the people of the state”.

Politics / Members Of APGA Defect To APC In Anambra by IB5(f): 7:53pm On May 26, 2013
APGA Members Defect To APC In Anambra

Supporters of the Maxi Okwu-led faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA,in Anambra state, have defected in their hundreds to the All Progressives Congress,APC.

The move follows the recognition of Victor Umeh as the National Chairman by the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC.

The members, who had celebrated the vacation of the Federal High Court Awka order against Okwu’s chairmanship, said they later discovered that the vacation did not upturn the Appeal Court’s stay of execution, which reinstated Umeh as National Chairman.

This comes as the state chairmen of Congress for Progressive Change,CPC, Chuba Ikeagwu; All Nigerian Peoples Party,ANPP, Pat Orjiakor, and Action Congress of Nigeria,ACN, Amaechi Obidike, commenced harmonisation of party leaderships from ward to state level.

The pact is geared towards ensuring that the APC wins the 2013 gubernatorial election in the state.

Speaking at the ANPP office in Awka, leader of the ex-APGA members, Ogemdi Ikwuakor, said they were unhappy with the crisis in APGA.

“Presently we are confused as to what to believe and most of us have political ambitions to actualise.

“We have this fear that APGA may not produce candidates for Local Government election and gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

“So, we have to join the APC because, at least, there is no crisis in the party and if these political parties can come together and become one party, it shows that the party will go places”.

Also speaking, ANPP state chairman, Pat Orjiakor, said that the party and its allies were positioning to cause upset in the forthcoming poll.

“We know that 2013 election is not going to be easy, but both the PDP and APGA are in crisis, with several factions here and there, and that is a huge plus for us; and we have the strong conviction that APC has covered about 60 per cent of its journey to the Government House”.

Orjiakor further noted that the new members would be given a level playing ground to participate in any electoral process.

He assured them that the APC remains strong despite its present challenges.

Politics / Nigeria Ranks 40th In Quality Of Governance In Oil And Gas by IB5(f): 9:56am On May 21, 2013

21 May 2013
By Chineme Okafor

The 2013 Resource Governance Index (RGI) of the Revenue Watch Institute (RWI), which measures the quality of governance in the oil, gas and mining sector of 58 countries across the globe has placed Nigeria 40th in the overall global ranking.

According to the report, which was released in Abuja recently, Nigeria, which remains Africa's largest oil exporter and the world's 10th largest oil producer and accounted for more than 2.2 million barrels of crude oil per day in 2011 received a "weak" overall composite score of 42 over 100 within the multiple scales of “satisfactory, partial, weak and failing.”
The report was launched by the Chairman Board of the Zero Corruption Coalition (ZCC), Auwal Musa, at a press briefing, which held simultaneously across the globe to unveil the 2013 RGI findings to the public.

Accordingly, the 58 countries that were accessed produced 85 per cent of the world's petroleum, 90 per cent of diamonds and 80 per cent of copper. Profits from their extractive sector totalled more than $2.6 trillion in 2010 and in 41 of these countries, the extractive sector contributed a third of gross domestic product and half of total exports on average.
Nigeria with oil revenues that totalled about $50.3 billion in 2011, ranked 40 out of 58 countries with relatively strong performance on its institutional and legal setting component contrasting with poor enabling environment score.

From highly ranked countries like Norway, the United Kingdom and Brazil to low ranking countries like Qatar, Turkmenistan and Myanmar, the index identified critical achievements and challenges in natural resource governance; it indicated that in 2011, oil revenues for Nigeria alone were 60 percent higher than total international aid to all of sub-Saharan Africa, adding that the future of the country depends largely on how well it manages its oil, gas and minerals.

For instance, in its assessment of institutional and legal setting which it scored Nigeria "partial" with 66 points, the report stated that such reflected substantial public access to information but incomplete revenue disclosure policies.
It explained that Nigeria’s minister of petroleum resources grants licenses for oil exploration, while the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), under the minister, oversees the licensing process and regulates the sector, yet some revenues in royalties, rents, license fees and bonus payments still bypass the treasury and are not reported to the legislature.

The report further stated that the lack of contract transparency and incomplete reporting on most aspects of the petroleum industry had led to Nigeria’s "failing" score of 38 in reporting practices, adding that the country received a "failing" score of 18 in enabling environment for government inefficiency and lack of rule of law in the sector.
Musa in his assessment of Nigeria’s performance in the process stated that it was a national shame for the country to continue to encourage opaque practices in its resource management.

“Our preliminary reaction to Nigeria’s overall “weak” rating in the RGI is that the premise upon which the scorecard was based is a true reflection of the state of governance of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
“Indeed, it has only confirmed the bad practices bedeviling the industry on the basis of which the civil society has been seeking appropriate reforms and redress,” Musa said.

He added: “Given its experience in oil and gas production and the quantum of what it produces as the world’s 10th largest producer of oil, it remains a national shame and embarrassment that Nigeria lacks virtually all the basic ingredients of best practices in the extractive industry.”
