proeast: My friend, I advice you go and read up on the democracy as practiced by the Igbo's before you choke us with your vague generalisation and stale truism. Is it a democracy where everyone is seen as equal not when a brainless and socially/economically retarded section of the land seek to lord it over the rest. NOT WHEN a bloated and useless National Assembly exists to make only laws that will benefit themselves and only a section of the country to albeit balance the uneven development of sections the country. Instead of doing the natural thing of allowing each section to develop at it's own pace. NOT WHEN the executive arm is openly dictatorial in intent and purposes. And seeks to suppress, control and intimidate the Legislature and Judiciary into being mere rubber stamps that only exist to dance to its whims and caprices. NOT WHEN ........ ( The list is endless) Democracy as defined by Igbo egalitarian society is definitely NOT the same as practiced in today's Nigeria. Thank you. |

Leaders of Abagana, the headquarters of Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, have asked Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris to prosecute Prince Arthur Eze, the Chairman of Atlas Oranto Petroleum, for unleashing violence on the town. The request is contained in a petition dated August 29, and signed on behalf of the Abagana Welfare Union by Barrister Emma Ifeadike. The union also urged Mr. Idris to sanction the Anambra State Commissioner of Police Mr. Samuel Okaula, Area Commander Longe, as well as the Divisional officers for Njikoka and Dunukofia local government areas, whom they say have been heavily compromised by Prince Eze. The petition faulted Mr. Okaula’s recent claim that 23 persons he recently paraded in Awka were terrorists. On the contrary, it said, it is Mr. Eze who has been using the police to terrorize the law-abiding residents of Abagana. It said the police officers, instigated by Prince Eze, were forcibly trying to take over the ancestral land of Abagana community, and thus constituted a threat to the peace. “The aforementioned police officers, who ought to be officers of the law have, quite regrettably become pawns on the chessboard of this moneybag whose cliché is “every man has a price” and that “when money talks, bullshit works.” According to the petition, the issue stems from a lingering land dispute between Abagana and Ukpotowns. “Even though the expanse of land historically belongs to Abagana, the people of Ukpo led by Prince AurthurEze and his brother, the traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Robert Eze, have been laying claim to the land - the same way they have been falsely laying claims to lands belonging to Enugwu-Agidi and Abba towns.” The elders noted that that while the High Court of Anambra State had earlier given judgment in favour of Ukpo, the Abagana community filed an appeal which is before the Court of Appeal, Enugu. “Despite the pendency of the appeal, Prince Arthur Eze, with cover from the heavily compromised COMPOL Samuel Okaula and over 200 armed policemen and vigilante from Ukpo, moved bulldozers and allied earthmoving equipment into the disputed land,” they said. “As Abagana people watched helplessly, the machines bulldozed their homes, graves, farmlands and economic trees. To secure the captured territory, Prince Arthur Eze built a police post thereon, and with illegal police protection hurriedly began building up the place, apparently to frustrate the upcoming appeal.” Detailing developments in the past few weeks allegedly involving Prince Eze, the petition narrated how Police Commissioner Okaula on 20 August addressed a world press conference at which heparaded 10 workers of EM Guest Inn, Abagana, owned by High Chief Emmanuel Nwude, following an attack on properties erected by Prince Arthur Eze on the disputed lands. “Without any shred of evidence, and in clear departure from what had originally been dubbed “Case of Conspiracy and Murder”, COMPOL Samuel Okaulatagged the arrestees “terrorists”, just to appeal to his financier Prince Arthur Eze. Quite laughably, COMPOL Okaula has manufactured “dangerous weapons” including arms and ammunition, which he claimed the “terrorists” used to attack the police post.” The petitioners pointed out that Mr. Okaula has since ordered the release of all of the suspects from Ukpo,Prince Eze’s town, who were arrested in the Abaganaraid, which they say confirms his partisanship. They appealed to the police boss to “order COMPOL Samuel Okaula to immediately release all persons arrested in the wake of the latest round of clashes between Abagana and Ukpo youth, as the youth of Abagana are becoming restive with each passing day,” stressing, “alternatively they should be charged to court.” They are also urging the IGP to direct the take-over of investigation into the most recent bout of violence on the Abagana-Ukpo border, asserting that the Anambra Commissioner of Police and the other mentioned officers have largely compromised their positions and can no longer be trusted to conduct an impartial investigation. http://saharareporters.com/2016/08/31/anambra-community-wants-arthur-eze-charged-terrorism

The people of Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State have disagreed with the Nigeria Police that 23 of their kinsmen arrested by security agents were terrorists. The state command of the Nigeria Police had published the arrest in a national daily with pictures of the suspects, describing them as terrorists. Reacting to the report, the Abagana Welfare Union (AWU), in a statement signed by its Acting President-General, Chief Ben Ugha, described the report as false and the handiwork of mischief makers who succeeded in deceiving the police to believe their claims. Ugha said that there were no terrorists in Abagana and accused the Anambra police commissioner of taking sides with a party in the land dispute between Ukpo community and Abagana. He said that the police commissioner was aware that Ichie Austin Ezudu and others as representatives of Ukpo community and Abagana. He said that the police commissioner was aware that Ichie Austin Ezudu and others as representatives of Ukpo community sued the late Chief Augustine Ezenwa and others of Abagana Town over the said land in Suit No. A/74/95 and that the judgment given in favour of the Ukpo community was appealed by his kinsmen in Appeal No: CA/E/86/2012 and Motion No: CA/110M/2015. According to him, the people of Abagana are shocked by the “brutal and militant invasion of their homes, the violent and brute arrest and criminalisation of their responsible, respected and worthy sons as suspect terrorists.” Ugha added that the publication and the statement of the police commissioner were not only “devoid of truth, deceptive and deliberately published to portray his office and his men as being effective, smart and efficient.” He gave the names of those arrested by the police as Chief Eugene Anene, a reputable transporter and a leader in the National Union of Road Transport Workers Union (NURTW) and Chief Amobi Ezekwe, an international businessman, known for his fearlessness. He said that they were arrested in the comfort of their homes and not in any hideout as claimed by the police. Others are: Mr. Stephen Ezichiegwu, a major distributor of drinks and sundry items in Eke Abagana, Mr. Charles Nwazoje, a businessman in Abagana, who was arrested in Aba by the Ukpo Vigilante men and handed over to the police and 10 members of staff of EM Petroleum, Abagana, who are not from Abagana. He said they were arrested to embarrass and incriminate Chief Emmanuel Nwude, who is also a leader in Abagana community. Ugha said: “It is important to note that all the people were arrested in the presence of witnesses at noon, no ammunition or dynamite was found on them. Where was the hideout where they were nabbed and from where did the AK-47 and the dynamites obtained? “We, the good people of Abagana affirm our faith in the country with unshakable belief in the rule of law; we believe that nobody, whether swimming in the oil bloc of Nigeria is above the law. We are not unaware that anybody has oceanic and prodigious financial, liberal propensity that can command security agents to blackmail our people. “We are urgently appealing to the Presidency, the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, the National Assembly, the Acting Inspector-General of Police and other Nigerians to save our people who are so dastardly blackmailed, humiliated by the police, illegally detained and denied access to lawyers, bail and medications,” he said. http://authorityngr.com/2016/08/Anambra-community-to-Police--23-detainees-are-not-terrorists |
