Culture / Is It Advisable To Employ A Hausa Muslim As Security Man Because Of Boko Haram? by ibis: 11:07am On Sep 10, 2011
Hi all,

I am about to employ a security man to help in my house but after conducting the interview, I actually found myself asking him that I hope he wouldn't book haram anyone. To which he answered " madam if I be member of boko haram I for don dey Abuja by now dey enjoy" lol.

What do you guys think? Is it advisable in this times of religious insecurity? I'm alone with my kids most of the time.

Let's rub minds.
Food / Re: I Need Small Chops Recipies by ibis: 10:44pm On Dec 14, 2010
@all

small chops is the general term used for entrees and finger foods normally served at parties in nigeria.

guess the OP is referring to recipes for samosa, spring rolls, stuffed pancakes, puff puff and mossa.

Travel / Re: 10 Year Uk Ban by ibis: 7:06pm On Aug 30, 2010
@ kadman, well let me share my own experience,

was in the uk as a student and within my one year i visited canada (categorized as a tough visa to get) and France on a schengen visa. I also visited Nigeria once during that time to see my hubby and daughter who i left in naija (very strong ties to home)

I applied for the 1st time for a us visa with supporting documents from my hubbys international work place to go and spend sometime with my hubby who was on a months training at that time in the us. he couldnt come over because he did not have a british visa. i was refused with the sole reson that i did not have sufficient ties in the uk. and that ties to Nigeria had to be proved in Nigeria.

6 months later i tried again as i wanted to attend an international conference (similar to the one i had attended in canada that got me the visa) I was refused again on the same reason that i should go back to my home country and apply from there.

i was really sad but once i got back to naija after my programme, without a job and hardly any money in my Bank account, i applied again here and got it immediately with no issues.

my advice is that you have about a 10% chance. come home to naija and apply for it. it will hurt pay visa fees and not get the visa oh! cool

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: For Lawyers In The House! by ibis: 6:13pm On Nov 23, 2007
another tip for lawyers is to do a masters.
an LLM still remains very attractive to employers and you stand out if you have one.

better qualifications also go a long way too.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: For Lawyers In The House! by ibis: 9:05pm On Nov 17, 2007
after all our jacking in uni and law school, u come out and your own senior colleagues will be offering u peanuts!!!!!

i still think the best places for lawyers to practice and see small money still remains Lagos and Abuja.

a lot of lawyers that would have made good litigation lawyers are marketers/ in operations or customer service in banks!

any vacancy i hear of (because as mamus 2010 said most legal recruitments are done in house) i will post.

HELLO EVERYONE,

DO WE HAVE ANY NAIRALANDERS THAT WORK IN THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT OF A BANK?

PLEASE COULD YOU BRIEFLY SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES?

DO YOU GO THROUGH AS MUCH STRESS AS OTHER BANK STAFF AND CLOSE AS LATE?

PLS HELP!!!!! I HAVE AN OFFER FROM GT BANK, NEED TO MAKE A DECISION FAST!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS ALL!
Family / Re: I Want My Daughter To Wear A Chastity Ring by ibis: 6:36am On Nov 13, 2007
I am making this decision prayerfully!!!!!!!!

i am a Christian and believe in the power of prayer and i also believe that her wearing the ring will help as a reminder to her decision.

i saw it work for a friend of mine. she had worn this ring through out uni and when we were in law school, we were like 26 then, i asked her and she explained what it was all about. she got married immediately after law school and it was so beautiful watching her exchange it for her wedding band!!!!!

pre-marital sex may be rampant but it still is not right.

God attaches special blessings to those who are able to obey this command and in the long run she saves herself all the high blood pressure from

missed periods
abortions
pre-marital pregnancy
std's
and that nagging feeling we have in our conscience that it is wrong!!!!!!!!!!!

the bible says train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. i sure believe this! grin

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Visafone Recruitment! by ibis: 12:22pm On Nov 07, 2007
i went to visaphone to drop my cv, the security guy told me they were no longer collecting. i persisted patiently talking to him and he collected it.

i think they are just swamped a the moment with an avalance of cv's at the moment and need a breather, and so are discouraging as many people as possible.

just be a bit patient and persistent when u go to drop.

Romance / Re: Would You Marry Your Age Mate? by ibis: 4:29pm On Oct 26, 2007
@ topic

where did we all get this notion that we have to marry an older man or younger woman?

its just stereotype being passed down with no valid reasons for it!

following the stereotype does not ensure success.

girls will find a decent guy and the issue they will raise is that they are the same age! imagine!!

have u not seen older men who are yet to get their act right or who will mis-treat you?
for the guys, that smallie will still become old one day. also pray she is matured enough not only to share but
to also contribute to your goals. ie for eg if u had a million naira encourage you to invest it, not a childish mind that will 1st think about spending it on herself.

@mishoo, i feel u joo. me and my hubby are same age! we are cool 4 yrs down the line, we understand each other. same generation.

pls lets drop stereotypes and follow our hearts!!!!!!!!
