Career / Re: Tips For Passing Online Or Video Interview by ibromodzi: 7:47pm On May 08, 2020 |
JARUSHUB: Video interview is not a new phenomenon, but it is going to be used more after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Video interview could happen through very channels – Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Team or some bespoke tool of the company. It could even happen through whatsapp video – just any tool. Sometimes, it may not even be real-time, as some companies will send you the questions in advance and ask you to record and send you answers.
Here are some tips to perform well in video interviewing:
1. Dress well
The fact that you are not showing up in the premises of the interviewer does not mean you should not dress professionally. Dress very well, as you would in a physical interview. Avoid the temptation to drop guard.
2. Get a good environment
The environment matters. Get a quiet background in a good environment. Avoid cluttered or distracting background. Avoid having backgrounds like your TV stand or a part of your kitchen showing from the background. A plain neutral background is okay, a background showing books is cool (just make sure the most visible books are things you can say something about – the interviewer may be curious to ask you questions about the most visible books on the shelf), a nice window setting is not bad as well. A bottle or cup of water by the system side is totally in order, and it even gives some people confidence.
If you have children, don’t have them close by to the interview setting or get an adult to monitor them – your interviewer(s) at the other end do not want to see a 3-year-old butt naked girl running behind you.
If you think your dwelling is not professional enough, you may want to invest fifteen thousand naira in getting a decent hotel room for the interview setting.
3. Get your tools right
Whatever technology is to be used, be sure you are familiar with it. You have days to get familiar with it if you are not already. And get it set – and get seated – at least 10 minutes before the interview. Laptop preferred to phone, but there is no harm in using a good phone with good picture quality. If headset will be needed, get one ready. Remember to charge your system or phone very well. If your system goes off at the slightest power disconnection, you may consider using a generator, but remember to put your generator far away – the interviewer doesn’t want to spend 1 hour listening to sound of generator.
4. Avoid temptation to cheat
Avoid the temptation to sticky some notes on the board or wall in front of you. It is generally not advisable to have prepared notes in front of you while the interview is going on. However, some interviewers, especially if interviewing with foreign companies, accept notes about some things – like some facts about the company. You may ask the question in advance before or as the interview is about to commence. You may also get a pen and a blank paper as you may need to jot some questions down.
5. Your body language matters
Video interview is not significantly different from in-office interview. Your body language matters. Avoid being fidgety. Naturally, you will be a little nervous in the first seconds and it’s ok, the interviewers understand that. The problem arises when you fidget all through.
6. Do mock session
If you have never done video interview before, you may want do some practice the real interview. Practice with the tool recommended in the interview invite (or an improvision). You may get your friend or brother at the other end to interview you and give feedback or get professional interview coaches like JarusHub.
One extra advice: if you’re switching jobs, it is generally not advisable to use your current employer’s office for interview. It is not professional and you may not even be fully comfortable. Take a day off or get a hotel nearby during your lunchtime.
Ultimately, don’t forget the general interview tips – like tips for answering questions, common questions, researching about the company and the industry. Don’t spend all your preparation time on figuring how to use Zoom and forgetting to read about the company and the industry!

Trailblazer1:
The answer is simple
It is because the safety measures were not written in the Quran Let me quickly educate you since you've chosen to display your ignorance publicly. Quarantine being practiced today has its root deep in early Islamic history. This can be traced to the advice of the prophet concerning pandemic/epidemics where he said : "Those with contagious diseases should be kept away from those who are healthy." The prophet also said: “If you hear of an outbreak of plague in a land, do not enter it; but if the plague outbreaks out in a place while you are in it, do not leave that place.” In addition, the prophet also strongly encouraged human beings to adhere to hygienic practices that would keep people safe from infection. This can be found in some of his numerous narrations; “Cleanliness is part of faith.” “Wash your hands after you wake up; you do not know where your hands have moved while you sleep.” “The blessings of food lie in washing hands before and after eating.” The great medieval Islamic scholar who also doubled as a medical doctor (ibn Sina) also recommended that patients with infectious diseases should be quarantined. You can educate yourself further here. |

You might be using a version that predates the introduction of those functions. Try installing the latest version of seaborn |

Month = range(1.13) plt.bar(Month, result["Sales "]) plt.show()
I tried with seaborn but I got an error message
sns.barplot(x=" Month", y=result["Sales"])
Can anyone please show how to plot such on seaborn? Why putting the Month inside quote again? Try sns.barplot(x= Month, y = result['Sales']) |

import pandas as pd import numpy as np import seaborn as sns import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
covid = pd.read_csv('c:\\users\\bola\\desktop\\covid19-april-4.csv') covid
filter_for_cases_greaterthan_5k = covid.TotalCases > 5000 covid[filter_for_cases_greaterthan_5k]
question How can I plot the variable filter_for_cases_greaterthan_5k against in the countries. I have tried severally, learned a lot about data cleaning in the process but I think it's just my syntax that is wrong.
I can find my way around seaborn, I can filter the data (as seen in the screenshot). I don't know how to plot the data. I am desperate to complete my first data science challenge. I don tey for this python thing small. @ejiod, ibromodzi, mcemmy0z:
For a simple barplot, you can try this # I'll like to take it from scratch so that others can learn #import the necessary libraries i.e matplotlib, pandas etc.. import pandas import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
# read your data using pandas and let's save it in covid dataframe #filtering your data cases_greater>5k = covid.loc[covid['Totalcases'] > 5000]
#Plotting.... I think this is what you need #set your x and y axes or you can just use a line of code in your plot but let's try to break it down x = cases_greater>5k['Countries'] y = cases_greater>5k['Totalcases'] plt.bar(x, y) # you can format your plot anyhow plt.xticks(rotation = 90) plt.show()

Nice one bro. But you cannot tell when people were infected for two reasons. 1. Corona virus can stay in the body without you knowing. You might actually have been infected on a weekend, but you only got tested on a weekday. How would you fix this? 2. Testing could take a couple of days. Which means that someone who was tested on a weekend, let's say Sunday, could get the result on the weekday. How would you make your charts more reliable?
@mcemmy0z. I solved the initial problem I have n can now plot. My code was missing a tiny character, is was right all along. The next problem I have is with slicing. Too many countries taking up spaces. I will try to fix it on my own, otherwise i will come ask people here o.
@ibromodzi nice . i like the word "prophet" will check it out.
Pardon my use of words..... Saying that more cases get confirmed during weekdays is another way to put it which I think is better and more appropriate... Thanks for spotting that out. |

I decided to drop this here since the other thread is not really active..... Chukwudaalu: I've been working on the data I downloaded through the link you posted. I had to extract, and rearrange the needed data on Excel, then load the data using Pandas on python. But I'm currently stuck on visualizing the data with a chart using matplotlib. Been getting errors since, not giving up though. I successfully did the analysis on Excel. But I am currently working on analyzing it using matplotlib too. I'm actually working on some other programming projects outside Data Science, reason for the delay. Thanks bro. You could have used pandas for cleaning the data, it does it like magic... Matplotlib sucks for visualization, I used plotly for that, the only problem I'm having is saving my figures since it doesn't work like matplot and seaborn... If you want to see my solution, I can drop the ipynb file in your mail. 1 Like |

Apcexchange:
thank you so much, I guess you just cleared me on this. I have to focus on data analysis cos I just want a job for now, maybe later in the future I might decide to further
so for data analysis, after learning Python, which other language should follow or is Python enough to make a good data analyst.
I have started learning Python already using my android phone , I have understood some basics already. where do I go from here?? thanks in anticipation There are two things that make up data analysis i.e the theoretical knowledge (statistics) and the technical aspect (tools used for data analysis). If you already have a sound knowledge of statistics, you can go ahead and pick any data analysis tools that best suit your taste. Python is just one of those tools and whether it is enough for your analysis or not depends on your proficiency and the task you are using it for. There are a number of tools used by data analyst and python is just one of them. Excel, Power BI, Tableu, SQL, R, etc.... are just few of these tools (you can use google to know more about them and what they are best used for). As with your own case, since you have understood the basics of python, you just have to master the libraries used for data analysis. I'll try to list them for you..... Pandas Numpy Matplot Seaborn Plotly Researchpy Statsmodel etc... You can as well sign up for basic statistics course online and learn it along with python. Good luck! 1 Like |

Apcexchange: after series of research, I decided to chose DS over web development but I'm still confused on which path to focus on in DS data analyst AI ML DL and so many of them, can someone throw more lights on this to enable some of chose area to specialize on
I think this is more of a personal decision and the goal you intend to achieve after attaining a good level of competence in any of these subfields of data science. Do you want to learn the skill for the purpose of research or you are planning to seek for job with it? While all these are subfields under data science, data analysis in my opinion can exist independently without going further in the pipeline of DS. I mean you can just build your skills around data analysis alone and seek proficiency in it and land yourself a job. However, you can't learn about deep learning without first learning about ML (both DL and ML make up AI), whereas you may decide to start your DS career from ML without learning about data analysis (although you must be good in EDA to make a good ML engineer). In addition, ML is still a type of data analysis known as predictive analytics whereas data analysis is only concerned about descriptive and inferential analytics. Every subfield of data science uses different approaches to gain insight from data and the approach you use all depends on your goal... Make your findings and go for what best suits your need. If you just want to be a data analyst, go for it but if your goal is to become a data scientist, you have to combine all these subfields together.... Finally, I think I should share my journey so far in DS with you. I started learning python with the aim of using it for data analysis alone (learned the basics including OOP in less than two weeks), then I started mastering the libraries for analysis and after practicing with a number of data sets, I decided to go into ML because I'm this kind of person with an inquisitive mind. Currently I'm dealing DL and I hope to combine blockchain and AI in future for the purpose of research.... 3 Likes |

With regards to what you said about Nigerian schools teaching old stuff, it is actually true. Most of what are being taught in schools are old and outdated and that's why they keep producing below average graduates. Like grandlord, am having a tough time choosing between web development and data science. Web development is so so easy these days and rampant. Almost everbody wanna become a web developer. I tire sef You have no reason to regret studying a course like economics, rather you should see it as an advantage to leverage on. Regarding your background, I think data science should be your best bet. Dedicate like 6-12 months to it and you'll never regret combining data science with economics. Your expertise in your primary field of study is an invaluable asset to you that'll make you stand out if eventually you venture into programming...
