Hello,
I have a task on cyclone intensity forecasting that I am currently working on. My major challenge is the data processing, but the person can also handling the model development if he/she can do that. The data is downloaded from various websites and need cleaning. Data is downloaded from NOAA, NHC website. It contains SHIPs reanalysis and operational data, GEOS infra red brightness temperature and information about hurricane tracks and intensity
Anyone who can handle this task should quote my message.

I just sent you a mail.

What I have noticed about Nigerian data analysts (mainly the show-offs) is that they all think data analysis is all about creating dashboards(visuals) as though they are graphic designers. And I can bet it that they didn't really do much of any cleaning and wrangling of data, otherwise they will show that part as well: trust Nigerians.

I don't see Whites post things like dashboards. To them, it's just a normal thing. The 70-80% of an analyst job is spent more on cleaning and preparing the data. This is where the knowledgeable of SQL, DAX, Pandas, Excel Functions comes in.

Simply put, Nigerian Data analysts are more of graphic designers while the white counterpart are much more than that: they are just like the scientists of the data itself. Your dashboards doesn't really tickle their fancy.

Follow them, you will understand that Data analysis has a long way to go in Nigeria.

Ps: I may be wrong, but that's my opinion.

Bro, you just said my mind.

You'll be surprised to know that most of these guys running up and down with dashboards don't really do more of data cleaning, not to talk of modelling, and some rich DAX.

I've been following your threads from the very first time you dropped one. I wanted to know how it would turn out. It's interesting to see that you followed your passion. Or the moneybag.
If it's both, all the better.

Freelancing is what pays my bills for now. I have not really started practicing my profession (and I don't think I want to).

I came across a person on Nairaland towards the end of 2020 who needed to implement a deep learning technique in his dissertation. I agreed to work with him, and it was my first "major" coding payoff. After I finished working on his project, he introduced me to someone else, and we collaborated on the person's dissertation as well. Around this same period, I was approached by a number of undergraduate students (mostly colleagues) to help them with their final year project analysis.

All this while, I never knew what it looked like to earn in Dollars. On this blessed day, a message just popped into my Twitter DM. Surprise! It was a foreigner who had just seen an article I published on Medium and wanted me to assist him in writing some Pytorch scripts. I agreed to work with him, we grew close, and he continued to show up. We got along well and he also introduced me to some other pals. The first work I did for him was 70 USD and then 100 and it kept increasing in that manner.

I forgot to mention that after having my Upwork account validated in October 2020, not much occurred there until I received an invitation for a CV/ML role. I accepted the invitation and I was sent a link to take an assessment which I did. I was certain I didn't pass the assessment because they were asking questions (JavaScript) unrelated to the role. I got paid $5 for taking the assessment and never heard from them again. Also, I didn't bother to check Upwork again either as I got tired of submitting proposals.

Last year December, I made the decision to return to Upwork, and happily, I was able to secure a $15 job (funny right). The task involved fixing a Pytorch script. After two weeks had passed (in January 2022), I got another gig with a 'mouthwatering' compensation ($450) and I only worked on this gig for about five days. After finishing the gig, I took a break from Upwork due to bad light situation and some other things. Got back in May and landed another gig. Currently, I have three gigs in the pipeline (on Upwork) and turned down another offer three days ago ( because the workload was getting much).

My story

As a young undergraduate who just got introduced to the concepts of programming (with BASIC), I became fascinated with the power of codes and got curious about what I could achieve with it. After making some findings on the best language to learn, which is the norm for every beginner, I decided to pick up C++.

The actual learning process then started in 2017 while I was in 200/300L. It was a challenging experience because I didn't have a mentor, a laptop to type code on, or a clear learning path—I was just learning to program for the fun of it. Occasionally, I wrote code on paper but I did so much of my writing on the tablet that was given to us in school back then. I learned some fundamental concepts of programming during this period and played around a few things. However, I got frustrated writing codes on my tablet at a point in time, so I quitted learning programming.

Fast forward to September 2019, I was able to secure a PC and I resumed learning programming—this time around with a different language, Python. Because of the good foundation I had with C++, it didn't take much time to grasp the concepts in Python. Once I was comfortable with the syntax, I moved on to Pandas and other DS libraries.

Around December 2019, a friend asked me to teach Python to two of his acquaintances, and that's when I made my first ##. At about the same time, I joined a local data science group to network with others who shared my interests while learning more about the field. It can be difficult to participate in school events and try to learn new things, so I wasn't able to do much during this time.

When the lockdown was announced in March, I restarted my active learning and didn't start earning money until about August. A friend was approached by a professional auditor (who is also the owner of a school) to introduce him to data science, but because he wasn't available at the time, he asked to take over. I met the man, we made a deal, and after we were done, he asked me to teach programming to his students (junior secondary).

That's why I put the rate so that anyone applying would know what they are getting into.

Apologies if you found my comments insulting. I've "known" Bratislava here for a bit hence my engagement with them.

About your pricing, you are right that since I don't have any idea 8what you are being paid for this, I should not be criticising you. But if your 20c per image is afl fair offering based on what you are being paid, then your employers need to be bathed with colourful insults. Would they pay such amount for an American engaged in the same task? It's a lot of work involved. Ensuring your phone camera meets requirements. Engaging and convincing the models and all the work. It's a lot of work for 20c per image. But hey, don't let my pessimism hamper you. It's easy to criticise

Apologies accepted. I don't do works like this. It was just a random invitation from Upwork. I didn't have much idea about the gig before accepting the invitation. After getting to know more about the gig, I told the person I can't work with them but he pleaded that I help him get people who can work on it. I knew it's not an easy task but I just gave it a second thought that someone might be interested so I came here to post it.

You'll be surprised to know that I'm not even getting a dime from this. The original price is 0.2$ and you know Upwork rate is 20% which makes the rate .2$

They should use the knife and cut their throat. And I'm almost certain the original job will be fairly priced. You want someone to take a high resolution camera (meaning a decently priced phone), go and talk to 415 random "models", convince them to take their pictures under specific poses, not pay the models, pay the photographer less than $100 for all that work. Let that AI project die by fire

You know you can always engage without throwing insults. And about the original job being fairly priced, you have no idea what you are talking about.
Programming / Re: I Am Tired Of This Upwork Things.. by ibromodzi: 1:46pm On Jun 29, 2022
Upwork is highly competitive, no doubt about that. However, I'll advise you not to give up on submitting proposals. If you are good at what you do, it is just a matter of time before you start landing gigs. Coming from a student of data science.

If you have a phone with a good camera (min. 12mp) and you'll like to work on an image data collection gig, this post is for you.

An AI based company is currently working on a project named 'NEBULA PROJECT DATA COLLECTION FOR 1800 HUMAN IMAGES'.
In this project, we need to collect the images of people having shadow on the face or on other part of the body from Africa. The total number of images needed is 415.

Note: you are to take these images using your phone camera, you are not allowed to download them.

The rate per image is $0.2, if you think this is for you, you can send a mail here. techmaniac4991@gmail.com

Just use the direct bank transfer, I have payoneer but have not used it before. I use local bank transfer and get my money in less than 24 hours after requesting for payment. You might end up spending more with exchangers and still end up with the 395.

This is okay if you are not withdrawing a large amount. He should try to set up a dom account. Another option is to sign up on geekpay.

Note: Do not rely on this book too much because it tries to combine R programing and python programing. Go for books based on R programming for anything Data Science in Health domain.

Learning path: first try and master everything a normal data scientist can do, then health shiuld be a later plus.

Work with enough dataset... get as may book as you can.. master biostatistic, bioinformatic, clinical trial data analysis... and many more

Thanks for sharing.

start learning on your own. Try building a cheat sheet using excel , dont memorize codes, just understand it line by line by translating it to english language.
Look at w3schools dot com, look at the data analytics part with the reference functions and the examples, practice along. Use youtube to practice. Use kaggle dot com to get dataset and also look at the examples there too to practice. Without practicing you would not remember anything.

He needs a solid learning path, not just these random stuffs you are recommending for him.

There is a way to get no fee which is the US Bank Account, my approach connect my Wise Account and use as ACH Bank, then set ip up on Upwork, the issue is you need to have someone who is in the UK with a wise account who can sell naira back to you. 0 transfer.

Works in theory but I haven't tried it.

Please how did you get your Wise account verified?

You actually don't need to have someone in the UK to get your Naira if you are used to P2P on Binance.
