• Conduct virus indexing using ELISA- and PCR-based techniques;
• Conduct characterization of viruses using genomic-based methods;
• Carry out phenotyping plants for virus resistance;
• Conduct the maintenance and propagation of virus cultures;

The ideal candidate must possess among others:

• Write indent and collect food materials from the store
• Responsible for all House-keeping related work to the standard;
• Should be well acquainted with food safety, hygiene and ensure strict compliance;

Successful candidate will:

• Coordinate all AfricaRice seed foundation activities in Nigeria;
• Multiply and distribute breeder and foundation seed on requests to the public and private seed companies;
• Carry out regular varietal maintenance and purification of improved rice varieties ;
• Link farmers, seed producers and variety release agents in PVS to speed up the release and dissemination of new varieties;
• Prepare, develop training and extension materials on seed production and handling for technicians and farmers;
• Maintain and clean all AfricaRice seed stores;
• Facilitate timely packaging, delivery and marketing of improved seeds to farmers;
• Undertake any other duties as required by the Deputy Director General of Research for Development, Program Leader-Rice Sector Development and Regional Representative and coordinator.
BSc/HND in Crop Production or related field plus at least 3 years experience in breeder and foundation seed production.
Field experience on rice seed production in a research Institution will be an added advantage.

Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

• Ensure that all work is carried out to: IITA’s requirement; industry standards and specifications
• Confer with Aflasafe Engineer, FMS and Pathology with contractors as to the preparation and interpretation of plans and specifications;
• Measure and sample all building materials going into the project and monitor the quality of workmanship, materials and methods; ensure adherence to all building codes, plans, specifications and allotted budget;
• Assist in the review and interpreting of plans, specification, and design submitted by contractors, architects, or engineer;
• Undertake visual inspections and produce regular written reports and logs, recording progress (or lack of), the numbers of trades employed, weather conditions, visitors to the site, drawings received, deliveries, instructions and details of significant events. Produce comprehensive reports with description and photographic evidence of site quality.
• Implement health and safety rules within the confines of the project and bring any observe shortfalls to the attention of the appropriate authorities.
• Ensure that construction work schedules are maintained;

• BSC or HND in civil engineering, building construction or related qualification with a (4) years post-qualification working experience.

• Professional Membership within a building/construction related professional body is desirable

• Demonstrate broad knowledge of materials, trades, methods and legal requirements associated.

Successful candidate will:

• Supervise technicians and daily workers to carry out seed yam production/multiplication using available (minisetts, micro tubers, vines cutting etc.) or novel techniques such aeroponic, hydroponic etc;

• Supervise activities in screen houses and field on station and out stations for establishment of new techniques of high rate of seed yam multiplication;

• Supervise and provide on-the-job training to technicians and daily workers for acclimatization of vitro plantlets;

• Collect data (on station, sub-station and on farm), and keep records on seed yam production/multiplication trials, and also supervise other staff involved in these activities;

• Contribute to the capacity building through development of training modules on high rate seed yam propagation techniques for yam research technicians, Agriculture Extension Agents (AEA);
• Supervise the delivery of seed yam multiplication, training of trainers courses using different techniques;
• Supervise the daily management of technicians and workers both on station at Ibadan and in out- stations
• Assist collaborators public and private, students and visiting scientists to achieve respective objectives within YIIFSWA project;

• Contribute to project reporting system and particularly reporting on research findings

Qualification and Experience


BSc/HND General Agriculture plus at least 5 years relevant working experience in yam breeding and seeds propagation methods. Experience in seed Yam propagation in a research Institution will be an added advantage

Applicants must have high integrity, be honest and possess good interpersonal and communication skills.

He/she must also be able to work under pressure and on weekends when necessary.

• Lead the implementation of the 10-year HR strategy.

Minimum of Masters Degree in Human Resources Management (HR). Associate membership of CIPM compulsory.

• At least 10 years relevant working experience in relevant management experience in Organisation Development and Training background essential.

• Working experience in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams and environments desirable.

• Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills; display maturity and interpersonal skills, be patience and have high stress tolerance.

• Proficiency in the use of computers, quick at analyzing issues and proffering quality solution and be able to handle confidential issues.

The position NSITF advertised is up to 100. I am very sure they are going to recruit more than 500, but am not sure if all that attended the chart would be considered cos the guy that was beside me on that day could not answer the simple question he was asked. However, i dont trust the Nigerian recruiting system.

I am tired of all this suspence, i dont think this people are serious with this recruitment. if they are still waiting for grand from the FG, it means they are no capable of paying salaries longe term, they dont have a detailed kick off program and fund, am scared of working for them cos its seems salaries are subjected to the availability of fund from the FG

The Indians are known for their poverty mentality,thus i wonder what CIPM and d Ministry of labour are doing about d Human Resources in d country.
