SportsRe: Enyeama's Error Cost Nigeria - Keshi by icekenkey(m):
I was watching the match in Accra today, and I must say that I'm disappointed in Keshi. I'm very, very disappointed. He, rather than Enyeama, ought to be blamed for the Super Eagles' unfortunate exit. Apart from the forced Onazi substitution, why didn't Keshi make any change until France had scored two goals? Coaching is not only about selecting your first eleven and hoping that your team wins. Sometimes, you have to win from the bench. Didn't Keshi see the French coach make a crucial change, bringing on Keizma or whatever for Giroud? That guy's introduction invigorated the French attack, leading to the first goal. The guy went on to exert the pressure that led to the Yobo own goal. You saw the brutal left-footed shot he fired at Enyeama, which the wizard somehow managed to save? That was an impact substitute. Why didn't Keshi learn from the French coach by bringing on players to shore up Nigeria's attack - to kill the game. You don't wait until your are two goals down before scrambling to make attacking changes. Ghanaians are very disappointed that Nigeria didn't win today, because they were rooting for their fellow Africans, especially in light of that beautiful performance. African coaches still have a lot to learn. They may be good in AFCON etc, but the World Cup is a different ball game. Apart from coaching problems, African teams must work on improving their delivery and execution in the final third. God bless Africa.

PoliticsJerry Rawlings Blasts Premium Times Over 'irresponsible' Journalism by icekenkey(op): 12:44pm On Jun 21, 2013
The office of former President Jerry John Rawlings has discounted a news account by the Premium Times of Nigeria of the June 17, 2013 address he gave at a Conference on Emerging Democracies in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja-Nigeria.
A statement signed and issued by Rtd. Naval Captain Hillary Afeku-Amenyo, Director of the office of the former president, said the “report is laced with irresponsible falsehoods, fabricated quotations and wrong allusions that bring the image of His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings into disrepute.”

Below is the statement from Rawlings’ office
[b]
RE: JERRY RAWLINGS SLAMS NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT

FOR ALLOWING CORRUPT POLITICIANS ESCAPE JUSTICE

The attention of His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings has been drawn to a scurrilous news report originally published by the Premium Times of Nigeria, which has received wide coverage on the Internet and other social media.

We wish to state strongly that the report is laced with irresponsible falsehoods, fabricated quotations and wrong allusions that bring the image of His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings into disrepute.

President Rawlings did deliver the keynote address on Emerging Democracies in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities, at conference organised by the National Institute for Legislative Studies in Abuja on Monday, June 17, 2013.

His address did not make reference to the government of Nigeria and he made no scathing attack on the Nigeria government as the Premium Times reported.

President Rawlings also did not make reference to the Nigeria leadership’s failure to punish politicians who steal public funds.

The first three paragraphs of the report are complete fabrications.

Paragraph ten and twelve are distortions of what President Rawlings said. Because of the gross distortions and falsehoods the entire report does portray a totally different representation of the fact as took place at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on June 17.

We have taken a very serious view of the publication because it is malicious, libellous and a very negative piece of journalism, which is calculated to bring the image of President Rawlings into disrepute and written to demand a retraction of the publication.

We caution other media who have inadvertently republished the said article to note that they will be held equally liable should we decide to take legal action on the matter

Below is the full text of President Rawlings’ address at the conference on Monday June 17.

Thank you.

jaeik007: how does this affect the state of the nation
Please put an end to this hypocrisy; Why did you follow the link in the first place. After feasting your eyes, you capriciously turn around to claim that the post doesn't not affect the state of the nation in any way. That is unacceptable.

PoliticsNigeria Has Nothing To Fear From Ghana - Ghana Presdient by icekenkey(op): 8:17pm On Jun 02, 2013
Ghana’s President, Mr John Dramani Mahama in an exclusive interview with Channels Television’s Network Africa, has stated that Nigeria must quickly assume the responsibility to develop the economy of the West African sub-region.

Likening the Africa’s most populous nation to Japan, Mr Mahama urged Nigeria to be the ‘driver’ and drive the sub-region’s economy with its massive economy and market just as Japan did for Asia.

“Nigeria has a huge population and its role in West Africa, gives it a certain leadership that it must take on to itself, to drive the whole of the sub-region along.”

The President expressed his displeasure at closure of Nigeria’s market to the imports from the sub-region saying textiles produced in Ghana cannot be imported in Nigeria.

“Nigeria has nothing to fear from Ghana” he quipped, adding that Nigeria needs to open-up its economy and allow imports from Ghana.

He also spoke about an on-going review of arcade market law that led to the controversial expulsion of some Nigerian businesses from Ghana in 2012.

SportsWhy I Didn't Win The World Best Footbller Award In 1992 - Abedi Pele by icekenkey(op): 12:08am On Jun 02, 2013
Ghana legend Abedi Pele says his biggest disappointment in his playing career is not to have won the World Player of the Year award insisting that he should have won the gong in 1992.

The three-time African Footballer of the Year award winner claims he should have won the World Player of the Year award in 1992 because of his efforts and performances.

The ‘Maestro’ says the prohibitive regulations for winning the World Player of the Year award prevented from winning the award in 1992 which was dominated by Europeans.

Abedi added that the key role he played in Marseille winning the UEFA Champions League and leading Ghana to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations should have given him the award.

The former Marseille superstar, who won the African Footballer of the Year award three times, says the regulations for the award in 1992 prevented him from winning the award.

“For me I think maybe not winning the World Footballer of the Year. Between 91, 92, 93 which an African wasn’t allowed to be part of those nominations,” Abedi Pele told CNN when asked about his biggest disappointment in the game.

“South Americans will do theirs, Africa will do theirs and Europe will do theirs. It was not until 1995 that the award became all inclusive.

“I think that was one of my biggest disappointments that I couldn’t grab that award. I believe I had the clout to really make it happen.

“In 1992 I took Ghana to the final (of the Africa Cup of Nations) and with Marseille it was even amazing and I had all the opportunity to grab that trohpy.”

AC Milan star Marco van Basten of Holland won the 1992 World Player of the Year award with Barcelona playmaker Hristo Stoichkov and German star Thomas Habler finished second and third respectively.

Given the performances of Abedi Pele in 1992 for both club and country do you think he should have been named the World Player of the Year? Do you think the Maestro is overestimating the impact he made in 1992?

PoliticsRe: Abati - Jonathan Didnt Miss Slot At AU 50th Anniversary by icekenkey(m):
This man has got to be kidding us. Nothing justifies GEJ's failure to deliver his speech (Nigeria's statement on the state of AU affairs and what the future holds.). Didn't he listen to the statements of hope delivered by other Presidents? Abbati's despicable attempt to justify GEJ's unfortunate and inexcusable conduct is irrational, and must be condemned rigorously and relentlessly by well-meaning Nigerians home and abroad. Instead of him to apologise to Nigerians or at least come up with a plausible excuse, Abbati is attempting to justify the unjustifiable. It's not going to wash with some of us - it is an exercise in futility. This guy should at least credit us with some intelligence. We are not fools - we can discern between good and bad. And, with respect, if GEJ will not get his act together at home, he should at least do so when he is abroad and stop embarrassing the country. He should not take the patience and longsuffering of Nigerians to mean weakness. God bless Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Lagos To Emerge 13th Largest Economy In Africa By 2014 by icekenkey(m): 3:25pm On May 09, 2013
This is good news. However, let me point out one inaccuracy: According to the CIA World Fact Book, Ghana's economy stands at $83.18 billion and not $45 billion. Ghana's per capital income is $3,300.

PoliticsRe: South Africa Vs Nigeria: Which Is More Influential In Africa? by icekenkey(m):
achi4u: SA is more infrasturally and economically influencial to the world than nigeria in all spheres except military power which is based on large population.
If only there's relatively peace in nigeria without hatred, nepotism, tribalism, ethinicity and of recent terrorism this country would've been a force to be reckon with.

Some section(s) of this country is a drawback to other sections making it very difficult to devlop randomly.

Before you counter my argument...consider:

Eletricity

Roads

Tourism

Entertaiment

Education

Healthy politic

Sports
et al
Lol. Why do you think military strength has something to do with population. China and India have a combined population of 2.5 billion people, but even if their military strength is combined, it will still be far weaker than the US'. You should note that Egypt has a stronger military than Nigeria and South Africa. See, let's face it: Nigeria has oil and is among the richest countries in the world, but the country doesn't command enough respect internationally. Countries like South Africa (understandably so), Eqypt, Kenya, Ghana command more international respect than Nigeria.

SportsGhana: Drama As Goalkeeper Leaves Pitch To Visit The Loo by icekenkey(op):
Drama unfolded on Saturday, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi as the Glo-Premier League second round match between Amidaus Professionals and Real Tamale United (RTU) was brought to a temporarily halt to allow the former’s goalkeeper, Eric Antwi Ofori, to attend to nature’s call.

The match was barely 30 minutes old when the incident occurred, forcing referee Prince Tawiah to stop proceedings with spectators kept in a suspense as to what was happening.

The GNA Sports gathered that goalkeeper Ofori in the course of the match suffered from a stomach upset and as a result had no option than to attend to nature’s call.

It took about four minutes for the keeper to return into action amidst laughter and cheers from the enthusiastic crowd.

An official told the GNA Sports that what the referee did was in consonance with FIFA’s regulations, particularly under Law Five, which does not allow a match to continue in the absence of a keeper.

The match itself saw Amidaus winning 3-1 to sink RTU further down the log.

TravelRe: Few Pictures From An Excursion To Ghana by icekenkey(m): 8:34pm On Dec 21, 2012
Let's take it easy. The University of Ghana (UG) is the best in West Africa, according to several rankings I've come across. See, let's be frank: Ghanaian varsities such as the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ashesi University (privately owned) and the University of Cape Coast are far better than most Nigerian varsities. The standard of education in most Ghanaian varsities is generally higher than what we have in most Nigerian varsities; this largely explains why many folks from acrosss Africa invest a lot of money to educate their wards in Ghanaian universities. The Ghanaian economy is far weaker than Nigeria's; Ghana's infrastruture is worse that Nigeria's: however, Ghana has a better educational system than Nigeria. It should be recognised though that the University of Lagos (UNILAG) is a shining light among top varsities in West Africa and beyond. God bless Nigeria, God bless Ghana, God bless Africa.e
