What is your take on When, how to ease the lockdown Since we really dont know how long this is going to take because we don’t actually know how the virus is going to progress and how the health care system will be able to handle it and hopefully get ahead of the virus. I feel just other people too feel that it is not really healthy for the economy to remain totally lock for a long time. Here is my take on how, when is the right time to open *the first phase 1- Street biz should open 2- Major market should remain closed. 3- Bars, Clubs, Restaurants, etc should remain closed *note* (Beer lovers can still buy their beers & other liquor in street shops) 4- Churches, Mosques should remain closed... * Second phase Other places can open with strict guideline What's your view on this |
The management of the University of Lagos Sunday announced the temporary closure of its Medical Centre after the facility was exposed to a COVID-19 patient. A statement issued by the university said the temporary closure would last 14 days. The institution urged members of its community to continue observing precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus. It read: “The University has made this necessary decision in order to decontaminate the Centre following exposure to an outpatient who was seen at the Centre on Monday, April 20, 2020 and immediately referred for COVID-19 testing. The Medical Centre was notified of the results on Friday, April 24, 2020 and immediately sought the guidance of the COVID-19 response team and institutional infectious disease experts. “Members of the University community and the general public are hereby assured that the University of Lagos Medical Centre had already put in place control measures for infection prevention before and at the time of the suspected exposure. “Kindly note also, that the Centre is meticulously following the prescribed protocols and that these recommendations for temporary closure and decontamination are being followed as extra precautionary measures to assure the safety of the community.” Source: https://www.ripplesnigeria.com/unilag-shuts-medical-centre-over-exposure-to-covid-19-patient/

Man kills wife over argument about children's future in Delhi A man allegedly killed his wife after an argument over their children's future turned violent. The couple has nine children and over 30 days of lockdown created an uncertainty. This was the second marriage for both of them. The accused had himself informed the police about the incident. The incident took place in the Madipur J.J. Colony which has been declared a containment zone for the deadly coronavirus by the authorities. A police official said that at about 3.30 a.m. on saturday they received a call about a fight between husband and wife. Acting on the information when the police reached the spot they found the body of the woman on the floor. According to the police, 34-year-old Raisul Azam is a street vendor and he got married to five years his elder Gulshan (39) some months back. Azam has three children with his first wife while Gulshan has six children from her first husband. On Saturday, the police said, they were discussing about the future of children but following some differences the discussion turned into an argument which later became violent. Unable to manage the situation, Azam lost his patience and hit at Gulshan's head with a stick. The blow was aggressive and strong that resulted in death of the woman. Azam had himself informed the police about the quarrel but before the police arrived had killed his wife. He also confessed to the crime before the police. The police have arrested Azam. As the couple got married only a few months back, hence, a Sub-Divisional Magistrate level probe is also being done, the police official said, adding that as the area is a containment zone so all the respective departments have been informed. Breathing technique saved a covid-19 patient in UK Speaking today on Good Morning Britain, he explained that his sister, a nurse, had told him to ‘just keep breathing’ after he was first admitted into the ICU. He said: ‘I took these words with me. In the ICU, that’s all I did. I made them sit me upright because I felt like I was suffocating on my back. ‘I just sat there watching the clock and I got into a deep breathing pattern. Doctors think that deep breathing pattern saved me from going on a ventilator.’ Rob described his time in intensive care as ‘very isolated’, stating that he was ‘kind of out of it’ for the first three days. At the time, doctors told his family he had just a 50% chance of survival. He had initially fallen ill with sepsis on March 30, for which he was sent home with antibiotics. But just days later he started showing symptoms of Covid-19, including a fever of 44 degrees. His wife Viv, who has been married to him for 40 years, said the family’s world ‘fell apart’ when he was taken away in an ambulance. He then tested positive for coronavirus in hospital She continued: ‘He was somewhere where he knew no one and he was so ill. I couldn’t be there to hold his hand or give moral support. My family kept me going, just the support of everyone has been amazing.’ Rob was moved from the ICU to a high dependency ward before he left hospital on Sunday. In a moving clip, he can be seen walking slowly towards Viv, who then hugs him and bursts into tears. The family have since heaped praise on NHS staff who aided his recovery, calling them ‘fantastic’ and thanking them for their dedication and hard work. China has described a lawsuit brought against it by the US state of Missouri as “very absurd”. Speaking on Wednesday, foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said that the suit, which concerns China’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, has “no factual and legal basis at all”. He defended the country’s response to the outbreak, which has now largely subsided, even in the region where it began. Missouri’s accusations centre on a delay in reporting the extent of the outbreak in the city of Wuhan in Hubei province in late 2019, reportedly over fears about the political stability of the region. Medical staff were ordered to keep quiet about the outbreak early on, and Wuhan went several days without reporting cases during an annual provincial government conference. “This so-called lawsuit is very absurd and has no factual and legal basis at all,” Mr Geng said at a daily briefing. Since the outbreak began, China has proceeded in an “open, transparent, and responsible manner” and the US government should “dismiss such vexatious litigation,” he added. Missouri’s lawsuit accuses China of an “appalling campaign of deceit, concealment, misfeasance, and inaction” which led to “the enormous loss of life, human suffering, and economic turmoil” caused by the coronavirus pandemic. “During the critical weeks of the initial outbreak,” it reads, “Chinese authorities deceived the public, suppressed crucial information, arrested whistleblowers, denied human-to-human transmission in the face of mounting evidence, destroyed critical medical research, permitted millions of people to be exposed to the virus, and even hoarded personal protective equipment – thus causing a global pandemic that was unnecessary and preventable.” China hits out at ‘absurd’ lawsuit by Missouri governor demanding damages over coronavirus ‘This so-called lawsuit is very absurd and has no factual and legal basis at all’ says foreign ministry spokesperson China has described a lawsuit brought against it by the US state of Missouri as “very absurd”. The state’s case argues that China’s behaviour over coronavirus and its implications stemmed from “commercial” interests, meaning they have the right to sue. Speaking to Fox News’s Tucker Carlson, Missouri attorney general Eric Schmitt laid the outbreak’s human and economic toll at the Chinese government’s feet. “What’s become clear in recent weeks is the deception, the misrepresentation, the concealment of the Chinese government of the origins of this vicious virus that’s impacted the entire globe … they were aware of the human-to-human contact and transmission very early on, hid that, punished and concealed the evidence from whistleblowers, and the impact has been devastating,” Mr Schmitt said. As of Wednesday morning, Missouri has just under 6,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19, and has recorded 189 deaths. Mike Ashley sends Newcastle United players to pick fruit on farm in Surrey April 22, 2020 Written by Garth Apthomas The owner of Newcastle United has temporarily transferred his entire squad to a fruit farm in Surrey to generate some much-needed income during the lockdown. The on-loan deal will see the footballers pick fruit and veg from dawn until dusk in return for a small wage given directly to the club. Mike Ashley said that due to the coronavirus lockdown and high costs of paying the players’ wages, he had no choice in the matter. “I can’t afford to keep giving these lads big wages each week while they to do nothing because the Premier League is postponed at the moment,” explained Ashley. “It makes much more sense to lend them out to a fruit farm where they can earn some cash for the club and know they’re helping keep the nation’s economy afloat. That gives them a sense of purpose. “The alternative is to let them lounge around in their luxury homes, or to pop down to the supermarket in their Lamborghini, knowing they are wasting their lives away. That would play hell with their self-esteem. As a responsible employer, I just can’t allow that to happen, obviously.” On hearing the news they were going to be sent fruit picking, the Newcastle squad looked about as happy as a Geordie in a Sunderland shirt. One player, who asked to remain as anonymous as his performances on the pitch, told us, “This is nearly as humiliating as when we lost 3-0 away to Oxford in FA Cup a couple of years ago.” |
Missouri is suing China over coronavirus impacts saying the country did 'little to stop the spread of the disease' By Christina Maxouris and Joe Sutton, CNN Updated 0725 GMT (1525 HKT) April 22, 2020 Eric Schmitt, Missouri attorney general, speaks during a news conference outside the Supreme Court in Washington, DC, on September 9, 2019. Eric Schmitt, Missouri attorney general, speaks during a news conference outside the Supreme Court in Washington, DC, on September 9, 2019. (CNN)Missouri is suing the Chinese government and other top institutions for the role they played in the coronavirus pandemic and the effects it has had on the state, accusing the country of covering up information, silencing whistleblowers and doing little to stop the spread of the disease, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced Tuesday. At least 6,105 people have been confirmed to have the virus in Missouri and at least 229 have died, according to numbers from Johns Hopkins University. Schmitt, in his official role as attorney general of Missouri, filed the civil lawsuit in federal court in the eastern district of Missouri. The lawsuit, the first of its kind, claims "Chinese authorities deceived the public, suppressed crucial information, arrested whistleblowers, denied human-to-human transmission in the face of mounting evidence, destroyed critical medical research, permitted millions of people to be exposed to the virus, and even hoarded personal protective equipment—thus causing a global pandemic that was unnecessary and preventable." Legal experts have said the lawsuit faces an uphill battle because China is protected by sovereign immunity. CNN is reaching out to the Chinese government for comment. Missouri's lawsuit alleges that while the Chinese medical community had indications of human-to-human transmission of the virus, they did not inform the World Health Organization when they first reported the outbreak. It also alleges Chinese leaders did little to curb spread of the virus, still allowing thousands of people to travel to and out of Wuhan. "In mid-January, on or around January 16, despite knowing the risks of doing so, Wuhan leaders hosted a potluck dinner for 40,000 residents, increasing the potential spread of the virus," it says. "Defendants allowed these massive public gatherings and massive exodus from Wuhan despite knowing the risks of COVID-19, including the risk of human-to-human transmission." The filing also outlines how officials initially cracked down on medical professionals who posted information about the virus, including Dr. Li Wenliang, who was accused of rumor-mongering by the Wuhan police after sharing information about a new illness with his medical school alumni group. Wenliang later died of the virus. The state also alleges China hoarded PPE while concealing the outbreak and that the small amounts they have released have been "faulty." Those, among other actions taken by Chinese officials had a massive toll on human life and health and has led to "enormous" economic disruptions across the world, according to the lawsuit. "Before the pandemic, Missouri had one of its lowest unemployment rates of the past decade, but on information and belief, Missouri's unemployment rate is now the highest it has been since the Great Depression," the suit claims. "Responding to the pandemic has required shutting down businesses, disrupting ordinary production and trade, and dislocating workers." CNN's Chris Boyette and Hira Humayun contributed to this report. |
