achi4u: seun should place an advert so that many ppl can join the site.

i only stumbled on nairaland b4 i got registered.

i've been recommending this site to my friends.

am doing my part...SEUN
exactly my point.... I have been doing so too.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Nairaland 1 Million Membership by icon2(op): 11:54am On May 21, 2012
Ibime: Actually Seun has done his best to make this place more interactive, despite you guys Occupy Nairaland protest.

Further integration with Facebook, twitter and such has helped Nairaland stay on top of the game and seasonal events like elections also drive followership to Nairaland from sites like Google, twitter and such.

Nairaland members are also dwarfed by unregistered guests who I believe also drive most of the advertising revenue, so I think NL is on the right track.
Sorry but I don't totally agree with you. Though you pointed out some recent achievements but that does not withhold the fact that growth rate is poor. Something should be done to get those ghost members as registered members. Just as someone rightly pointed out, integrating mail option isn't a bad idea. Nairaland can actually be pride of Nigeria.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Nairaland 1 Million Membership by icon2(op): 11:32am On May 21, 2012
Bontee: Those numbers up there are not active members, check around the homepage or at the bottom then you will see the number of active members each day ( Both registered and guest ). One thing i have come to realize is that, nairaland got this huge membership on the
cheap and to imagine that facebook is on a race to one billion members.

Other forums would have been more innovative than nairaland if they could have such large number of members but nairaland is so lacking and just resting on advertising income. New innovation will make more money in the future than nairaland, check dealfish, iroko partners and so many more.

With all due respect nairaland is a sad reflection of nigeria, just big and depending on one source of income like nigeria. Google started with search but see where they are today, iroko partners and dealfish are moving with break taking space while nairalist is going down. Nairaland has the largest free collection of intellectuals of mostly nigerian origin but sadly they could not leverage upon that.

Trust me you really need to dig well and you will see the amount of talent and opportunities embedded here but when the management is solely Nigerian then just expect disappointing incompetence ( in most cases ). The companies that would take over nigerian internet space will be from abroad or will have support from abroad. Iroko partners is now trying to be a company while nairaland still wants to be a one man business and corner all the revenue. It won't last and facebook will not be what it is today if it was still run by mark alone.
Cool analysis... Seun I hope you are reading. This is free consultation for you.

afam4eva: Not until Nairaland expands and starts offering more products. Not everyone is interesting in joining a forum but they may be interested in having a Nairaland Email, reading Nairaland News etc. I think Nairaland should venture into other endeavors in order to expand the member base of the site.
That is exactly what this thread wants to achieve. Lets open the eyes of seun to vast opportunities out there. He has started well but growth is slow.

Logic Mind: he is on the right track with his ghost membership program.
Ban people so they create new accounts.
I person, 15 accounts = 15 members!
Continue but there will only be one LOGIC MIND
The only and only great intelligent monkey on NL.
Nawa ohhh... Why are you calling yourself a monkey na..? Anyways I think Nairaland should have up to 5M members by now.
Considering our great poulation and increase in internet usage. Moreso nairaland seems like a voice to many people. Something should really be done by seun. Nairaland is of age.... He should even start considering going public is he does what should be done well.

Sweetlemon: I understand why there is so much anger and hate every where now. It is very understandable. But please, I appeal to us to take a deep breath, release, then count 1-10 or 1-20 if you are REALLY angry. Then please read what I have written here with an open mind. Please I beg you.
Yes! Nigeria is in a hot mess and in critical situation. Yes we have lost our minds such that some of us are now calling for war without even considering the effects of war. Someone rightly said here that 90% of the people calling for war have never witnessed war in their lives and so have no idea what war is. They naively believe that "sharpening their knives and cutlassses" and "loading their guns" will save them from the pathetically, devastatingly, hearbreaking blows of what a war can bring. Perharps these people do not have children to consider? perharps they do not know that even their children could be taken from them, molested, or used to fight the war that will give them them their cherised "Biafran", "Odua" or "Arewa" dream? Perharps these people also do not realize the possiblity of having all their sacrifices go to waste when if they eventually get the country of their dreams only to find out that they will be back to square one all over again when their Biafran, Arewa, and Odua leaders continue to treat them the same way or worse than while still under Nigera! I'm sure we will be happy then. Or maybe our pride will not allow us admit that we have been too blind and foolish to see past our arrogant noses to see the real problem. Perharps then it might become too late for us to see that we should have fought the real problem instead of allowing it turn us against each other. Perharps we might be too proud to see that our real problem lies in us.
What am I trying to say?
We Nigerians, are a bunch of egoistc people who find it difficult to accept the truth and that is why our beloved country is crashing before our very eyes! Let us first lear to love our neighbours. lets learn to accept others regardless of tribe and religion. Look at America, they have tribal, racial, religious, and even national (there are Asian Ameicans, African Americans, European Americans, etc.) differences but when was the last time you heard them them screaming, "You this Afican American!" or that "European American"? when last did you hear a white man say he cannot live in the same area with a black man? And even when you hear cases of racism, do you hear all the blacks or all the whites screaming "lets sharpen our cutlasses"? do you hear their muslims calling their Jews or christians "infidels"?
Nigerians!!! cant you see? can we not see that our greedy leaders are the ones turning us against each other? Is it not these same leaders that will still rule Biafra, Odua and Arewa? cant we see that while we are busy attacking aand retaliating attacks, they are busy feeding themselves fat in our kitchen while throwing the bones at us as more incentives for us to keep fighting each other? can't we see that these fights are distractions to take our eyes off them so they can keep clearing our kitchen?
Please think, think about it. I know it's quite hard but just try to see that two wrongs can never and will never make a right. And while you are still thinking this over, ask yourself how many war-broken countries are thrieving today.
Please can this be put on the front page? Thank you.
Did read all that...?Ohhh yes I did.
@op.... Frank talk.... Keep it up.
Front page plsssssss

RomanceRe: The Silent Treatment - What You Are Saying By Not Saying Anything At All by icon2: 8:39pm On May 18, 2012
Orikinla: The Silent Treatment - What You Are Saying By Not Saying Anything At All

By Ken Savage

Probably at one time or another you have been either on the giving or receiving end of a silent treatment, otherwise known as the cold shoulder. What you probably didn’t realize is that the silent treatment is a form of ostracism. When someone is ostracized it affects the part of their brain called the anterior cingulate cortex. Do you know what the anterior cingulate cortex does?

The anterior cingulate cortex is the part of the brain that detects pain. When you give someone the silent treatment you are causing that person physical pain. Simply by ignoring someone else’s existence you can inflict pain on them. This is what the ever popular “time out” with a child is so effective. The child feels ostracized, therefore is feeling pain even though no physical pain was inflicted on them, and therefor they want to behave so they don’t have to feel that way again.

The silent treatment can be a very destructive behavior when it involves personal relationships. Let’s say with a husband and wife for instance. The silent treatment breeds bitterness on both ends and it borders on emotional abuse…I’m not making that up to be dramatic. That’s what “they” say.

Cooling Off And Ostracizing Are Two Very Different Things
Let’s not confuse the silent treatment with something known as “the cooling off period”. The cooling off period is where one person is so angry or disgusted by the other person that they just cannot deal with the situation in that state need time to calm down before they begin to speak to this person. That’s fine and actually that’s probably better than sitting and screaming at each other.

There is a big difference between taking some time to cool down and outright ignoring the existence of the other person. The silent treatment would be more along the lines of you doing something that pisses someone off, they clue you in on it (or not), and then they don’t speak to you, acknowledge you or even make eye contact with you for sometimes days. No good.

To me, this is a form of torture. Nothing positive comes from this type of behavior. What makes more sense…blowing up about something, cooling off a little and then talking about how to resolve it OR not blowing up about something, staying completely pissed and not doing anything to help resolve the situation? If you said the latter…you’re a dick.

When someone is administering the silent treatment they are trying to show that they are dominant over you. The silent treatment (when it becomes a mutual one) is a power struggle in pain tolerance…whomever the winner is, cares less.

When You Are On The Receiving End Of The Silent Treatment
It’s interesting to me that research has shown that woman and men respond to the silent treatment very differently. Woman who are on the receiving end of the silent treatment seem to try anything in their power to win back their good grace with the ostracize where men…don’t. They just deal with it.

But what exactly are the men just dealing with and the woman trying to avoid? The emotional pain associated with being ostracized. Those who have been treated to the silent treatment have reported as sense of loss, of not belonging, of lower self-esteem and a feeling of unworthiness. All of these feelings are the result of someone just not acknowledging them or ignoring them. I find that pretty interesting.

I can say that I honestly don’t ever remember giving someone the silent treatment…not anyone that it would matter to anyway. I don’t think I have it in me to do that to someone. Why you ask? Because I’ve had it done to me, I know what it feels like and it totally sucks. I’m more the type of person that would like to blow up about something, probably say some things I don’t really mean, apologize for saying the things I don’t really mean and then move towards resolution. But hey…that’s just me.
Old thread but very educating. Thanks... I am guilty of this but I will change.

For me I think it's Love, because God is love and he is the most powerful. Money was created by man. Needless to remind you that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil.
What's your take?
