tbaba1234: Anyone, with a keen eye will notice 2 things about Rohr's team
1. We are more organized especially defensively. I do not hold my breath because of a corner kick anymore.
2. Our transitions from defence to attack are quicker.. see our goals against Algeria and Cameroon. Even the Ighalo missed chance against Zambia.
These do not come from man management, it comes from work.
Siasia style of play is all out attack, no defensive discipline. We score 5, you score 4... Against better teams, you will be found out. Correct. |

tbaba1234: Rohr is an experienced tactically sound coach. He does not change things around too quickly, he prefers gradual but focused changes. Look at the way, the team has transformed since he arrived. We are more defensively sound than we have been in a long time. We defend set-pieces a lot better.
Hugo Bross is one of the most tactically astute coaches in Africa. Rohr was better than him over two legs. Infact, Cameroon were lucky to score.
Icon4s said it best.. The man is conservative in his approach, he moves gradually. Thank you. |

MilitaryControl: Not necessarily so.
1. Poor pitch on African terrains 2. Poor referring hence rough games
African qualifiers are difficult to exhibit one touch football in due to the above mentioned. This means even if that is your game style it may not reflect. We have played flashes of one-touch in most of the games (Algeria, Cameroun Zambia-1st leg)....not just the Zambian one. Watch again. And clearly Rohr's game plan is very visible in all these games.
But as I said above it cannot appear perfect in Africa games because of the nature. You will get to appreciate the gameplan more when we play friendlies outside the continent or go to the world cup........Just the same way Keshi's game plan became lucid and smooth to execute at the confeds. (vs Spain, Uruguay), at friendlies (vs Italy, Mexico), at the world cup (vs Argentina)
As regards Moses and Simon running endlessly;
You should note Rohr adopts a defensive and counter attacking approach when we are under pressure. Hence what Moses and Simon do are clear instructions. To use their pace on the counter while midfielders like Mikel supply passes from the deep.
So Rohr clearly has Tactics.
He outcouched tough Cameroun on both legs------Tactics He outcoached free flowing Zambia (Watch Zambia vs Algeria)------Tactics Our defensive approach to games has really improved------- Isn't this Tactics?
I'm surprised you do not see the obvious. Its good to criticize, but always state the obvious. See me here clapping. We need more of you here bro. |

Mickael2: First I would like to ask you your definition of a middle 'giving you the right results', for me it means dominating a game against a Zambian team is a sure banker and that is not the result we have.
A coach does not come with a set formation, simply plugging in players to suit that his formation. No, a coach comes with an open mind, trying to generate a formation that will work with what he has. Now let us assume that Iwobi has a monstrous season at AMF, scoring and assisting like it's nobody's business. Maybe Iheanacho is converted back to an AMF and he also has a monstrous system there, but currently our system only requires one AMF but now we have three AMFs, to make it more interesting Joel Obi also has a great season at CMF and stays injury free. So if you are the coach will you still maintain your 4-2-3-1 formation knowing fully well that the players you have are mainly midfielders? Will you still maintain the same midfield trio of Ndidi-Onazi-Mikel because they huffed and puffed and secured a win against Zambia? Just some questions then I can conlude 'IF' you said. And of course nothing is cast in stone. If Iwobi's prowess as an AM projects astronomically, definitely we try him in that position and we hope he transfers this ability to the national team. But again you said 'IF' . So until then. But for now I still stick with Mikel as the top AM. |

Mickael2: do you expect Icon4s to change his views ever? If he was a coach he would play thesame formation and thesame team for a whole season even if he has better players on the bench. Hopefully the tactical team will understand that football is a dynamic game just like you have come to understand This one made me laugh out loud. Back to the basic: 1. You don't change a winning formation. 2. You don't change a winning Team. National team football is a lot lot different from Club football. In club football because of the quality of players at your disposal, you can chose to alter formation even severally in a single game. You can chose to go to the market to buy a particular due to a new formation the club has chosen to adopt. If a formation or tacticsfails the coach has several other matches to redeem himself This is national team football. Caution here in very key. You don go about experimenting squads at random except for friendly matches. The key to national team selection is to optimize your available resources especially when you are limited compared to the major oppositionsyou are to face. If the midfield combo of Ndidi-Onazi-Mikel has been giving you the right results why change it? O I understand the need to play Iwobi at the AM position but right now Mikel is more effective in that position so we have to move Iwobi to the wings. What happens to Simon? Yes Iwobi has reclaimed his wings position from him. Can we recall Simon was not a starter in Rohr's earlier matches? Now going back to the issue of consistency. We saw what happened against SA with so many changes to the starting lines up, with some of the regulars missing for various reasons known to us. Consistency is key in team building. One or two changes may be made depending on various circumstances. Rohr knows his team already and there is no need for wild experiments. It is important that the team maintains shape and cohesion as this would be vital as they compete at the World Cup.

For those calling for Mikel to be moved to the DM or CM position, Mikel is our biggest asset in that midfield and we need to use him optimally.
Mikel keeps the AM role for me and let Ndidi and Onazi continue doing it in the midfield. Onazi is a work horse in that midfield and thank God the technical crew recognize that.
Iwobi can play from the winds and should occasionally drift to central positions swapping with Mikel (just like against Zambia in Uyo).
Some have again called for us to play Victor Moses as a wing back. *In Chief Zebrudaya's voice* Fa-fa-faa foul! He maintains his wing forward position.
We need to maximize our potentials in the best positions. |

jotey: Don’t accept Tammy Abraham in Eagles, Adelabu tells NFF
https://guardian.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/tammy-abraham.jpg
Tammy Abraham allegedly confirmed two days ago that talks were on- going with Nigeria shortly after scoring for England
Former Green Eagles winger , Adegoke Adelabu has advised the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) not to listen to England U- 21 forward , Tammy Abraham , following reports that he has dropped another hint as regards his interest in switching allegiance to Nigeria after Super Eagles ’ qualification for Russia 2018 World Cup .
During preparation for the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifier against Zambia, NFF president, Amaju Pinnick claimed that Chelsea striker Abraham, who is on loan at Swansea , had committed to declaring for Nigeria .
However , the 19 - year - old Abraham quickly distanced himself from the claims.
Now according to latest reports , Abraham allegedly confirmed two days ago that talks were on - going with Nigeria shortly after scoring for England U- 21 in their 3 - 1 win over Scotland . For Adelabu , the latest turn around by Abraham should not be taken serious by the NFF.
“ Tammy should stay away from our national team. I want the NFF to use him as an example to other junior players, who feel that without them , Nigerian football won ’ t go anywhere . Tammy has just realized that he might not be part of England ’ s squad to the World Cup in Russia , so he can quickly make a u- turn to Nigeria. No way .
The NFF must not listen to him. We have enough players good to win the World Cup if only the team is well prepared .” According to the report , Abraham, who has been ever present for the U- 21 s of England that are top of their Euro 2019 qualifying group, liked and commented on a video posted by Alex Iwobi on Instagram.

blueto: I have noticed this too. nacho's movements sometimes makes it difficult for players to get the ball to him. He suffered this at man city and someone here blamed it on city's attacking players, that they were trying to starve him of the ball. Lets say the truth, nacho does not have it as a CF, he may continue like this if he isn't played as a supporting striker or false 9. TheGoodJoe what do you say here? |

Mujtahida: Kog45 when you say Rohr is conservative do you mean in terms of strategy or personel? Let me give you heads up:
On personel I trust you see that Rohr is bringing down the age limit of the team to the extent that we have one of the youngest teams in Africa? He is not radical yet he has thrown Agu into the mix three times ahead of Ogu
On tactics:Do you know that after we trashed Cameroun, Bassagog said that they knew how we used to play and they were set up to play us that way but that on match day we adopted a different strategy that confused them? And how come we scored 11 goals in a group called group of death. Cc goodjoe, Icon4s, mickael2 The thing is with names of young Nigerian players flying up and down many of us are so much in a haste for Rohr to drop the older more experienced players for the new ones. Hence they think he is conservative in that regards. Also some expect us to attack and attack and always attack our opponents in all games home and away no matter the dynamics of the games. This group also feel Rohr is conservative. What Rohr is doing is what an experienced coach does. He understands that the team needs transition but he also understands this transition should be done in a very balanced way. New players would be introduced but gradually. It took Westerhof 5 years to build that 1994 team. By and large I agree with the suggestion that Rohr needs help tactically. The NFF needs to hire a special tactician for the sole purpose of the WC. Jo Bonfere was the special tactician to Westerhof. We can get same for Rohr. |

TheGoodJoe: That change by Shakespeare to pull out James for Iheanacho was wrong. The shape was alright. Shakespeare needed to pull out Vardy and give Nacho a shot with the chances coming.
What Rohr needed to do against SA was not to change the shape but personnel to get someone with the ability to give good passes to Nacho. Bringing Kayode in did not change personnel or shape. However, it did not solve the problem. Bringing in Kayode to play alongside Iheanacho would have definitely changed the shape of the team. Besides we were already playing on a 4-3-3 formation. Talking about change of personnel to give the passes, who was that personnel from the bench that you think Rohr should have introduced? I hope you are not suggesting Mikel Agu. |

Mujtahida: I shook my head when I read what he wrote. And talking about our game in Cameroun I don't see how his strategy was bad and I know that if we had won we would have trumped him up as a tactical genius. Against the game in Uyo, goodjoe was afraid that we'd pack the bus but was that what happened? Was that game goal to goal attacking foray? From the time we won Cameroun 4-0, the need to qualify became even tmore paramount and pressing to the extent that all that fancy set up no longer mattered. We've qualified, let's see how things pan out going forward. You get it. |

TheGoodJoe: Sorry. Against South Africa in Uyo.
Nacho did not have problems with mobility. Not at all. The problem we had was someone not making use of the advantage of Iheanacho's mobility. So why think of bringing mobility with Kayode? I do not even see Kayode as a more mobile forward.
The midfield was not the problem until the second half. What we needed was to sort the final ball with positional changes. That was absolutely wrong and the limitation of Rohr's technical crew and tactical depth showed. By mobility issues I meant timing of runs. Iheanacho was either running too early thereby being off or running late there by the ball being out of his reach. Plus also Kayode is a very fast player. He is more pacy when in possession of the ball than Iheanacho. Also Iheanacho seemed to have gassed out. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 9:57am On Oct 12, 2017 |
TheGoodJoe: In the game against Zambia when Rohr opted I think to pull out Iheanacho and replace with Kayode, that was when I noticed how limited his tactical and technical crew was. That was a wrong call.
I agree with Mickael2 that Rohr is limited tactically and his conservative approach (although we showed more bravery against Zambia) to the Camerounian game in Yaounde showed this too. My advice to Rohr is to get Amunike into his back room staff. I wonder why the NFF dropped Amunike. Just like how they dropped Shorunmu. The back room staff needs strengthening. Having more tactical depth to the side will give Rohr more options and even a more flexible approach to games. Against SA you meant. In that game we were losing the midfield battle so bringing out a midfielder to introduce Kayode so we have two strikers upfont would only spell more doom. The problem in that game was that we were not getting enough balls to the lone striker (Iheanacho). Ihenacho seemed to have mobility issues in that game so Kayode a more mobile striker was brought in for Iheanocho. Also Kayode as we know is good at one on one situations which we needed at that point to get the goal due to the lack of balls as earlier stated Substitutions depend a lot on balance of play. You saw what happened to Shakespeare's Leicester City against Arsenal when Iheanacho was introduced and a midfielder(forgotten his name) was pulled out, Leicester collapsed and Arsenal won. It is not all the time that when you are chasing a game that you introduce a second striker. Some times you do a like for like, depending on the balance of play. |
