tbaba1234: Alampasu has been in Feirense for years and has not played a league game. You do not test players,in important games.
Uzoho playing a league game at the expense of more experienced keepers is a testament to the trust of the coach not testing. If Uzoho continues till the end of the season, he will be an easy world cup pick. How many Nigerian keepers are playing at that level? Fine if Uzoho gets more game time then he is in for selection. But let us see that come to materialization first. |

TheGoodJoe: Akpeyi is now fit but still not selected because he is not better. Your campaign was not because you want the best keeper. It is because you want a sentimental choice.
I am not for Alampasu , Akpeyi, Ezenwa, Uzoho, Ajiboye etc. I want the best in the team. After you select the best, then you can have the best make a long run as the keeper. Not just any keeper getting a long run because of Fortune.
Same goes to every position. The only way we can get is done is to screen the best candidates. If not, we will not field our possibly strongest team. Coach Rohr and the entire coaching crew stuck to Akpeyi because of the lack of confidence in the other keepers. The devil you know, it is often said is better than the Angel you don't know. They didn't want to take that risk. And I bought into it that's all. No sentiments. At the bolded, you clearly are for Alampasu. Everyone here knows that. Well the "foreigner" has ran the rule on him. |

TheGoodJoe: What about when we play Cameroon in Yaounde? You have players that suit a strategy based on squad selections. Go back and re-watch that game with an unbiased mind. Nigeria was on the front foot for over 70mins of the game. We had the chances to have rapped it up in the first half and early in the second half. We created more chances. Look at the stats: Cameroon with 6 shots on goal with 2 on target (one of which was the penalty), Nigeria had 11 shots on goal with 2 on target. It is only expected for a team that desperately needed a win and are trailing by 0-1 in front of their crowd to come all out and throw in all they have to salvage the situation. The away team leading would want to go conservative at that point to secure their lead. Over-all, Nigeria was the better team in that game. You have been hammering on players selection, squad selection. Are you suggesting Rohr should over-haul or disband the team and go and search for players that will be playing all attack like you have described it? |

TheGoodJoe: My point is simple. We can play a more offensive set-up with a tweak in our selection. When you say using forwards (not midfielders) as the first line of defense, it depends on the set-up, whether offensive or conservative. The offensive set-up requires the forwards pressing to win the ball back. That is different from telling your forwards to sit deep (conservative).
I am not against pressing. That is part of an offensive strategy. Watch what Klopp and Mourinho did. Klopp pressed making it difficult for Manchester United to keep the ball. In such instance, the forwards are also the first line of defence.
While Manchester United cleared out and had sometimes all of their players sitting deep. That is negative play.
To have a good offensive approach first starts with the the coach making a decision to play in an offensive manner. Whether offensive or conservative, it depends on the strength of your team relative to that of your opposition. There are no strict rules on this one. We play a team like Togo we go all out offensive, we play a team like Brazil or Spain we go conservative. This is very simple. It also depends on the result you want to achieve. If you need to win your last group game to stay in a competition or If you need to win by aggregate scores, you come all out and score enough goals to surpass your opponents aggregate. After which you go conservative to protect your lead. That is how football is played. And not just attack, attack, attack and attack whether big or small opposition. |

TheGoodJoe: A team can still play offensively and maintain their shape at the back. So no one says we should be reckless. You think it is only the back four players that are involved in the defense? Against a superior opposition you need both wingers and midfielders as the first line of defense. This will only limit you to counter attacking style of play. It is not negative football. That is how to cope with a stronger opposition. TheGoodJoe, you know I have advised you on this before: That coaching book Joe Erico(or who was it) gave you is not enough. You need to enrol in a proper coaching school. You Honestly need. That is when you can appreciate the realities on ground. |

TheGoodJoe: Stop twisting the clear point I am making. Invite to camp is not trying in qualifiers. You obviously know the difference. So why feign ignorance?
As it stands, we do not know our best shot stoppers because we have not done a proper screening process. I remember how you backed and fought against changing Akpeyi until a foreigner had to come and carry out a screening process amongst the lot and Akpeyi lost his place.
Without a proper screening and selection process, we will keep selling our self short.
We can play more offensively than we are doing now with a better attacking set-up. Firstly, Akpeyi lost his slot because he was injured ahead of the games against Cameroon. If he was in camp he would have kept goal. And not because one foreigner screened him out. Rohr even referred to Ezenwa as 4th choice and Akpeyi as 3rd choice even after the Cameroon game in Uyo. Get that right. Ezenwa got the opportunity and he ceased it. You don't change a winning team, Ezenwa had the momentum and confidence to go with it, why not stick with him. Ezenwa is not much different from Akpeyi. Emm but why was Alampasu dropped from the squad was it an aftermath of the foreigner's analysis on him? On Uzoho, you are not making any point. So because his coach tested him in a league game Rohr must also test him? Is he the only Nigerian goalie that has been tested in a league game? |

TheGoodJoe: For start, Aluko has a lot to contribute to our team offensively and creatively.
If not Pepe Mel giving Uzoho a chance, you will not agree such a player deserves a shot. By the way, no one says we should go all out attack on Brazil but play in a more offensive fashion. So only Aluko's inclusion will just automatically transform the team into a very offensive one. So because Pepe tried Uzoho in a league game Rohr should have tried him in any of qualifiers? Talking about Brazil "play in a more offensive fashion" than.......?? |

TheGoodJoe: Even now, we can play attacking football. What affects us is our selection. If the current Spanish boss, Lopetegui is our coach, he would not select a park bus squad bit select players that will suit a possessive, attacking setup. It is the manager and not the talent pool that is making us play in a conservative manner. We are talking Nigeria playing a top team like Brazil. There is no way we can match them. You cannot play a top team like Brazil or Barcelona and come all out attacking. The score-line will be so humiliating. You cannot setup your team to do all attack in every game. Tactics for each games depends a lot on the strength of your opposition. Which selections are you even talking about? Call the names of players that have not been selected yet and lets see if they are worthy of selection. |

I wonder what you are talking about Mourinho choosing to park bus. That is his Cup of tea and I even wish he plays like that all season. I am talking of Rashford looking less than average in the system.
Yes, Nigeria has quality talents but we do not have a fair ground to nurture and raise our talents. Something Brazil has in abundance. If our league is as developed as even South Africa, the quality of our pool will increase.
Nigeria's problem also has to do with bias and sentiments which is seen as football gospel. So when a talent like Dele Ajiboye comes out, there is little help for his growth despite his talent. It is like that for thousands to millions of talented Nigerian kids that are wasting.
It seems you have forgotten the video analyst also works during camping and screening.
In camp, he will have a more conditioned to continue his study. The analyst will also work with Rohr to develop the pool list for camping. Yes I know this but you are also aware that the video analysts also study clips of the players in their various clubs. Rohr does not need to invite evry d!ck and Tom. Even you from the comfort of your living can tell which players are up to the mark or not. Rohr may only invite players that look promising and look like they can add value to the team. These ones he invites and observe closely and not to throw the whole camp open for over a 100 players to come for selection. |

TheGoodJoe: On Saturday, we saw Mourinho opt for a very negative strategy and Rashford looked worse than average. If a team play that way regularly, we can have a quality player who looks average.
That is why it is good to access them closely. So using watching them every day as a yardstick does not add.
If not the bravery of Pepe Mel, we can use him not playing as a yardstick to judge his strength. Some play in weak clubs and with a quality team can post stellar performances.
Accessing and screening remains the best. I go with us doing it the old way. To assess them closely. So Rohr has sacked his video analyst that you had always been talking about here? Tell me whether the likes of Brazil, Germany, England , Spain , France will invite 100+ players for camping. Talking about Mourinho's tactics at Anfield, was that how Mourinho has been setting up his team against other opponents? I have always told you a team must not play attacking football all the time. There are some games you just adopt a cautious approach with the aim of not losing even if you don't win. Anfield is a place where you visit and expect Liverpool to come all over you. The best approach here is to sit back, absorb the pressure and hit them on the counter. The Manunited result at Anfield is a good one. That was how the other day you said Nigeria has the talent to match Brazil. I just dey look you. |

Kog45: But some are suggesting open camp like hundred players. Thank God for the internet of today. Thank God for Digital satellite TV of today. Gone were the days when a coach would assemble hundreds of players in preparation for the world cup just to asses their level of the game. We see these players on weekly bases, some twice a week. There is no Nigerian player that is a world cup material that we have not seen play so far. So the coaches need not assemble a hundred players to assess them for the world cup. This will amount to distraction, waste of resources, waste of time and all what that come with it. The coach should focus more on fixing the departments that need fortification and developing the team's tactics. The team should be involved in numerous friendlies with 1, 2 or 3 new players introduced and tested per game. Consistency and stability are key elements in team building. Modified: For instance I would like to see friendlies where Rohr experiments with Mikel at CM and Iwobi at AM and vice versa, we would like to see Rohr play Iheanacho behind Ighalo, I would like to see Aina at RB while Shehu plays DM, play two strikers side-by side like in 4-4-2. Stuffs like that. Switch of formation, switch of players in different role and what of have you. Not spending the whole time selecting from a hundred players. |

Humility017: Football Stop begging Nigeria-born foreign players to play for Eagles, Onigbinde tells NFF By Alex Monye 16 October 2017 | 4:10 am
Former Super Eagles coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde has called on the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) to stop pleading with Nigerian -born foreign players across Europe to play for the national team , saying such trend could hamper the nation’s football development efforts. Onigbinde described as a big shame the recent trend in which a nation that has produced former winners of the prestigious African footballer of the Year award like late Rashidi Yekini, Victor Ikpeba, Emmanuel Amuneke and Kanu Nwankwo are wooing foreign players of Nigerian descent to play for the Super Eagles . The FIFA technical adviser advised the NFF to create a programme to discover talents from the Nigerian league system and the grassroots, saying if a technical team was constituted to watch every league game in all centers every season, national team coaches would have a pool of talents to choose from while preparing their teams . The former member of the NFF technical committee advised Nigerian coaches to update their knowledge of the game to meet the current standard of their counterparts in Europe, adding that if Nigeria did not produce good coaches, there is no way they would churn out quality talents. “I find it embarrassing that Nigeria is begging Europe-born players to play for the Super Eagles. If in the past the country produced quality players, I see no reason it cannot happen now. The problem is that the NFF doesn’ t have a developmental plan. This is why they focus on getting other players. “If a technical team were sent to all league venues to watch players and pick the best and send it to a particular data base in their Abuja office , such players will be monitored from time to time and Nigerian coaches at the end of the day would have a pool of players to pick from . “Anybody that says Nigeria no longer has talented footballers is not being fair. There are quality players everywhere in the league, under the bridge and the grassroots, but there is no adequate mechanism put in place to search for them. “It took me some minutes to pick Vincent Enyeama as my number one goalkeeper for Super Eagles after watching him in a game. I had never met him before I made that decision,” he said. Onigbinde also advised the NFF to ensure the Super Eagles prepare well to make an appreciable impact in Russia.
https://m.guardian.ng/sport/stop-begging-nigeria-born-foreign-players-to-play-for-eagles-onigbinde-tells-nff/ Emmm High Chief, we are not begging, we are only wooing. Several countries have done same in the past. Leonel Messi for eg would have been playing for Spain today if Argentina had not made that move. Mind you, we only go for players that will add value in departments that we need fortification and not every di-ck and Harry. We recently acquired Ola Aina and we will make attempts at Tammy Abraham. If we don't get him we move on. But let it be known that we made the attempts so future generations will not place curses on the NFF for missing out on him in case he turns out like another Dele Alli. I don't go for every foreign born, only those that we need. We need Abraham for Russia. |
