Please who watched Everton vs Leicester City?

We need an expert's analysis on how Ndidi faired.

Can't wait to watch Leicester Vs Chelsea. Musa and Ndidi vs Moses.

As for the promotion of the U17 teams, they will form a yard stick for searching for new talents. Let us take Osimhen. Do you think it is easy to scout and find a better talent within his age bracket in attack?

Amunike did a thorough screening and selected good talents. The exploits of Okonkwo and Kelechi Nwakali paints this picture.

Amunike screened his team again, inviting over six hundred boys. Some made it into his team but most of his boys were still the best to him.

That is what I expect. Have your team and keep searching for better talents. That is how to build a formidable squad. Whether youth teams, national teams or squad.

No one is asking for a replica and promoting youth coaches is not a recipe for disaster.
Good you have just mentioned 3 Talented players that we all feel can go all the way to achieve great things but not the whole squad. That is just my point. Most will not make it to the Super Eagles.

From that Amuneke's U17 team I still feel a good number were not ready for the U20 competition. Some players progression are some what slow. Moving the whole U17 squad to U20 was a major error. Inclusion of other players from the NPFL and other leagues in the world would have made that team more competitive and balanced.

I beg. I believe Chidi Nwakali would make the squad wella. At least Usman Mohammed and Sadiq positions. We are talking of a young man who was under the age of seventeen and Pellegrini thought he was good enough to play for City. He went on tour with Iheanacho to America but unfortunately injured. The young man is good.

I said invite him to camp. That was what I expected from Siasia. If he is not considered good enough, then I can accept that. However, not calling him at all and saying he will not meet up does not work for me.

If Pellegrini did not show faith in Iheanacho and gave him a chance to show himself, Oliseh would still not believe he was ready for the Super Eagles.

They are all Manu's boys. Manu brought them to the spotlight, same way we know the Siasia boys. TheGoodJoe is referring to those that are already in the Eagles. For what it's worth, if we qualify for the World Cup as it is, Alampasu will be mentioned as part of the team. Only one goalkeeper can keep at a time unlike other positions. In the future, Alampasu will be called a former Super Eagles goalkeeper. See?

I say this set can be the most successful. We already have 5 bonafide members of the team in the Eagles. And the naysayers keep forgetting that the oldest among them is still 20 years old. We still have at least 10 more years to wait. So what's this dismissive attitude?
Firstly, the argument was not on which set will produce the highest number of players that will play for the Super Eagles.
1. The argument was sparked as a result of my mention that MOST of the FIFA U17 WC winning squad would not make it to the Super Eagles.
2. I hope you know that Wilfred Ndidi first featured for the John Obu's U20 that were part at the 2013 WYC. Obu brought Ndidi to lime light and not Manu. Also Ndidi was not part of the 18man squad to the 2013 FIFA U17.
3. Do you know Emmanuel Babayaro was once invited to the Super Eagles camp of the 90s. He never got to play any game for the Super Eagles and so till date only referred to as a former youth international.

Don't get me wrong. I dnt have anything against any player. My own is "no preference because they are Manu's boys". Let them show they have come of age first and merit the national team call up.

It's too early to judge. But even now, we have four Manu's boys in the Eagles right now: Iheanacho, Musa, Ndidi (he played qualifiers), and Alampasu. The fifth person is Isaac Success. We know it is injuries that have kept him out of Eagles camp. He's been invited already.

So perhaps, this will be the most successful squad.
The argument was on the 18man squad that won the FIFIA U17. Ndidi was not among. Alampasu has not yet played for the Super Eagles. Musa is one leg in, one leg out. Or what do u say it is that u have a Musa Mohammed and you are still searching for a RB. If Ebuehi performs well now, na so Musa don go be that.

Yes they are still developing but let them prove their mettle first then they can be invited to fight for a place in the Super Eagles.

TheGoodJoe:

I know your moniker very well from the U20 thread. Back to that debate, no one disagreed that the Manu team might not make the Super Eagles. If you remember, we highlighted the reasons why.

One of the key reasons is the non promotion of coaches from the junior level. A good example is Manu Garba not getting the Olympics job. In the U20 thread, I explained that the progression will slow down there. If Manu Garba was the coach, some of them would make the Olympics team. If Manu Garba and some of his crew were in the Super Eagles camp working with Rohr, it will be difficult for Nwobodo not to get a chance.

So, it was not just that they would not play for the Super Eagles. We explained they were good but there are factors that will prevent them from making the team.

Chidi Nwakali cried out to Siasia to give him a chance in the U23 camp and the call never came. If it was Manu Garba in charge, he will stand a better chance.
See, it is never done anywhere in the world. A junior/ Cadet team coach being promoted along with his boys. That is a recipe for catastrophe and failure.

I recall the argument started with Fani Amun not being promoted to Super Eagles coach. You said he would have carried along his 1993 FIFA U17 boys into the Super Eagles.

I told you blatantly that that would not work as most products of the U17 do not progress well. That is where I also pointed out that it is not just a Nigerian case but world-wide. You will not get the best crop of players for the senior level if you give preference to a particular U17 squad players.

I then went ahead to point out that that same trend will very likely affect the 2013 Eaglets, that most of that 18man squad that won that FIFA WC will end up not playing for the Super Eagles. Shocking as it sounded then but I stood my ground on that debate.
We both pointed out that the 1993 Eaglets had produced the highest number of players that ever played for the Super Eagles which was a shocking 5 out of 18.

Now, back to your idea of promoting Manu so he can carry along his boys. This is partly what affected us under Siasia with his 'my boys policy'. He would not select the best, he would be inviting the boys he tutored at U20.

I have always stated this fact: that most U17 graduates do not progress well. A good number do not even measure up at U20 level. That was why I became disturbed when I found that 10 out of Amuneke's U20 starting 11 were from his U17 squad.

See, if any of the Manu's or Amuneke's players excel in their Professional careers and Rohr or whoever is in charge feels there is a need to invite the player, he would be invited. Not this talk of reserving shirt for a player or players who have not even started their professional careers.

The Chidi Nwakali you said cried to Siasia was he as at then better than Ifeanyi Mathew and Ifeanyi Nwobodo? Recall that Ifeanyi Mathew was dropped prio to the CAF U23. Nwobodo I feel may have been considered but for his injury. Looking at the midfield Siasia had at the Olympics do you think Chidi Nwakali would have made the squad: Azuibuike, Etebor, Usman Mohammed, Saliu Popoola, and Mikel. Wilfed Ndidi was originally in his plans but later pulled-out due to club commitments.

I have nothing against any young player, what I am against is feeling they deserve a place when they have not shown they deserve the place. Isaac Success for instance is a Manu boy and I have been calling for his inclusion in the Super Eagles cos I have seen the substance in him as a professional player. Let other youth players work hard too just like Iheanacho, Iwobi, Ndidi and the likes and lets see if Rohr would not give them a look-in and a call-up.

History is gone. Do not judge on history but the current form.

Carry the selected choices and narrow down the best by their performances in training.

I am repeating the same thing. History made us put Peter Rufai in goal in France 98. He set the wall and stood behind it. That was an amateur mistake. Do we keep relying on history to solve what we can judge with immediate trials?

The basic coaching course will make me rely on history instead of current form. Please.

Our love for history ended us up with an Aiyegbeni in front of goal missing a sitter. Our love for history left us with a shambolic Peter Rufai in goal at France 98.

Go watch the Algerian game again and tell me Akpeyi was not shaky in goal.

Greg Etafia and Dele Aiyenugba is not in contention here. Etafia was always my pick self, so that was not a direct point to me.

Screen and select the best. If the coach says he selected Akpeyi based on composure, I will not argue but heck he was even far from composed.

Someone on this thread even said that was the last time he wants to see Akpeyi in goal.
Who is talking about relying on history over current form?

I got your point now, play the better player in camp irrespective of their experiences.

If Alampasu perform better than Ikeme,he should start,if Kenneth Otigba perform better than Leon in training he should start,if Madu show flashes in training,he should start ahead of Echiejele,if obiora nwankwo played like Olishe in training he should start ahead Ndidi and Onazi,Ajagun can come in and take Mikel place coz he replicate Messi in training,Osimieh can come in and take Nacho place coz he outshine Nacho in training.

My man with due respect, player selection has gone beyond this,a lot of criteria are put into considerations and that part of d consideration make Akpeyi to bench Alampasu.

To be candid Alampasu iis coming to that stage when such consideration w not be a factor against him and we are all praying for that level.Do u remember Rufai,Agu and Agbonibavte era, this was d best era of Nigeria goal keeping,a coach can closed his eyes and pick any of d trio

I don't think there is need for us to be arguing unnecessarily.

I want us to drive our points from Algeria match. The match in question was world cup qualifying match against top rated Africa side, prior to d match three goalkeepers were invited namely Ikeme,Ezenwa and young Alampasu but Ikeme got injured and Akpeyi was called as a replacement and manned d post.

The question is this, why Akpeyi who was not on original list was picked ahead of Alampasu and Ezenwa.A lots of things were put into considerations that only Rohr can explain.I remember his explanation on why he needed to drop home based players for Algeria match,it is simple he said league was on break. This decision gave room for Alampssu ahead of Emma Daniel but based on experience Ezenwa was picked.

Alampasu might be d best in camp due to reports from camp which nobody can authorized coz i remember d camping of Sydney 2000 dream team in Ilorin in 1999.I was privileged to watch their training live.It was straight fight between d two keeper Greg Etafia and Dele Aiyenugba on who to be picked. The reports journalists were bringing out to d loving sporting Nigerians was different from what we are seen live.

Aiyenugba was jumping, punching, diving like a cat with spectators applauding but Etafia was well composed by reading his line very well, organized his defence and u see that maturity in him.At d end Etafia was picked by coach shaibu Amodu and d sport writers were saying Dele was d best. The same scenario played out between Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Idemudia,we thought Idemudia was d best but Aiyegbeni was picked coz in front of goals he was deadlier but Idemudia bunch of skills and delight to watch.

It was this period that i realized the difference between pundits and coaches .A lot happened in d camp that w don't know and one need to hear from d coach b4 one can question his decisions.

It was very glaring prior to Algeria match that Alampasu w not manned d post irrespective of his performance in d camp and it's simple, match of such magnitude wasn't for rookie especially a sensitive area(goalkeeping)

The main game is in front. The preparation to select the best for each role is in camp. This is not the first time coaches opt for history over current form. However, repeatedly we have seen it not work. Akpeyi was a clear example. He was shaky and no way solid. Liked his footworks though.

I pointed Bony's case at City. Oliseh did the same leaving Iheanacho out of the squad for so long. Hoddle did the same in France 98. Dunga dropped a top performing Neymar for 2010 World Cup. At the end, when looking back, the so called experience factor did not help.

Remember Peter Rufai in France 98. Where was the help from his experience?
We are talking about a goal keeper's position. Forget Bony.

If you feel Akpeyi was shaky then you should expect Alampasu to freeze to the ground. I am sure you know the magnitude of the importance of that game. You as a fan watching the game, were you not tensed up.

Selecting a goal keeper for a game is far far different from selecting a striker for a game.

Alampasu, Iwobi, Iheanacho Lead Top Performers In Super Eagles Training

Owngoalnigeria.com witnessed the open door session and we picked five players who were very impressive for the two hours the training session under the watchful eyes of coach Gernot Rohr lasted.

Dele Alampasu: Brave, confident and commanding, the 2013 Korea U-17 World Cup winning goalkeeper, who was rated the best at the tournament showed why he is so highly rated. His cat like reflexes was one of the highpoint of the evening session. He was simply outstanding.

Alex Iwobi: The Arsenal forward oozed class anytime he touches the ball, he was very lively and used the ball at his feet to good effect. He connected well with other players on the pitch and clearly left coach Gernot Rohr impressed.

Kelechi Iheanacho: His link up play with Iwobi was extraordinary, the pair were at ease finding each other with passes and amazingly even in tight situations. A combination that could wreck the Algerians if carried into the match day.

Mikel Obi: The captain looked fitter than ever, didn’t show any sign of a player who is yet to play a competitive game this season for his club. Obi was lively, full of running and incisive with his passes. A sign of how well he has managed his lack of game time at Chelsea.

Moses Simon: Diminutive, daring and full of dribbles. The Gent man was clearly head and shoulders above the defenders who tried to stop him. His movement off the ball was also top class and bar a poor finish, he could have scored a wonderful goal.

I clearly stated my point. Rohr believes in Victor Osimhen's ability. Not me. Rohr. I said if he believes the young man can help the team, he should invite him and let the young man compete with the other strikers.

I do not want past glory being reasons for selections. I think I have pointed this out for a long time now.

Bring the players to camp. Drill and select the best in each role. Not U17 or Club history.

Current form over history.

The match experience clearly did not help Akpeyi in training . LOLS.
Are trainings the main games?

You should ask whether the match experience helped him on the match day or not.

See there are some things you need to know about players selection. I have encouraged you to probably go for a little coaching course for you to understand some more things. That still gives you more edge as an analyst.

I told you even before the camp opened that there was no way Rohr would start Alampasu ahead of Akpeyi no matter what happened in camp.
Rohr already had 90% of his starting 11 in mind even before the squad list came out. That is what a right thinking coach does.

” If you want to know if Besiktas are interested in him, FC Porto are the right people to ask, he is their player, am just his agent”.

Last season Awaziem made 12 appearances for the first team of FC Porto, but this season he has found games hard to come by for the first team but he has been ever present for the B team, who are campaigning in the second division.

There is no parking space in the English Premier League top four spot, but Arsenal striker Alex Iwobiis hoping that high flying Chelsea drop some points as they play Tottenham tonight. Chelsea are closing in on Arsenal’s 14-match record of Premier League wins after their stunning run of 13 victories since the start of September.

And Iwobi insists the Gunners are confident of keeping the pressure on Chelsea in the hope Antonio Conte’s side slip up before the end of the season.

“Hopefully if Chelsea slip up, they slip up but we have to make sure we win to keep up the title race,” said Iwobi, who scored in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace last time out.

“The games are coming thick and fast; we just have to prepare the same.

“We have got the momentum, we are confident now and hopefully we can keep up our winning streak.

“I’m just trying to do the best I can. If the team does well that is the main thing.”

Indirectly Rohr is saying you have to prove yourself in your club before I consider you. Playing Ndidi instead of Musa was not due to experience but fear of musa being match rusty, they was no info in camp that told us Musa performed better than Ndidi in training
God Bless you.

I did not say the coach should call up every player but study the players and select those he feels can contribute to the team.

As for Musa Mohammed, I think Rohr made an error when he opted for Ndidi as a right back over Musa Mohammed. Ndidi was not good holding the winger of the Zambians and there was no way Musa Mohammed would not have done better.

That is why the experience or game time factor distorts judgment.

Just like Rohr opting for Akpeyi over Alampasu despite Alampasu performing better in training.

At the end Akpeyi was shaky like an amateur. Select form over experience.
How are you sure Alampasu would not have shaken like a leave being blown by the wind if he manned that post?

You think goal keeping is only about diving and catching balls?

Do you think Alampasu have the charisma or what it takes to organize that Super Eagles defense in a game of that magnitude?

You planned to field a debutant in a game of that magnitude? Good Lord! shocked

Rohr's philosophies are clear. You need to start playing games for your club before he can consider you for any position in the team.

U think U17 exploits are enough?

Let us see Victor Osimhen play and develop as a professional first.

He did well with the under 23. I thought, he was more dangerous than Awoniyi and Ajayi when he played. He was only left out of the Olympics because he was needed in the under 20 team that failed to qualify.
Osimhen and Awoniyi were not ripe for the U23.

You cant say he did better than Ajayi.
