tbaba1234: Give Osimhen time to get some football under his belt first. No doubt, he has potential but he is not the heir of anything yet.. He has to first establish himself. I just tire. They think senior team football is like U17. Osimhen that could not even cope with the U23 demands. |

Invite them to camp and let them battle. If Rohr believes in Victor Osimhen's talent, then let him have a chance to battle for a place in the starting line-up. If he does well, it can boost his chance to break into the first team of Wolfsburg. I guess Rohr would need to invite over a hundred players to camp for us to select our starting 11. The best way to call up players for national duty is still club performance. Let us see him play at Wolfsburg first! Osimhen has not played professional club football and you say Rohr should call him to camp to battle for what? Because Rohr said he like him? Its like you still dnt know Rohr well. Musa Mohammed's case should give u an insight. |

goldfish80: Your last sentence sums up my point.
Look how Osimhen is being talked up and already having his super eagles shirt already lying in wait for him before he kicks a ball in his Pro career. Chisom Egbuchulam on the other who as I type this second is better than Osimhen and not even being discussed. Nobody wants to hear about him because he's home based.
Am sure most people don't know Chisom Egbuchulam is the Nigerian footballer of the year. He won the award ahead of Iheanacho, Mikel and Osimhen.
If there's a role reversal and Chisom was playing for Wolfsburg while Osimhen was playing for Rangers, will People talk about Osimhen starting ahead of Chisom? Food for thought. The bolded is what I have been personally arguing against on this thread. Some are already reserving a shirt in the super eagles for him in this 2017. The U17 performances by these players is so much hyped here. I have always cited cases where MVPs and Highest goals scorers of the FIFA U17 end up as flops. Osimhen is a talented young player no doubt but how he would channel that talent when he starts playing professional football is what I dnt know. Any thing can happen. But let us see Osimhen play professional football first. What has even become of Taiwo Awoniyi that over a year ago peeps here said he deserved a place in the Liverpool line up. What of Musa Yahaya? |

Kog45: Yes but very few games but as in goal ratios is not better than most current eagles strikers like Ighalo, ideye,Iheanacho,Musa, though stand to be corrected.
2014-2016 Granada 49 matches /7 goals, though very good, talented footballer with good skills and delight to watch He was played as a winger. So to judge with goals ratio against strikers is not fair. Success talent-wise IMHO is up there with the likes of Iheanacho and Iwobi. He has just been so unfortunate with injuries. |

Kog45: I always love pundits that are precise in their analysis and u are one of them here on nairaland. My question is this,is success better than Ideye when w talk of national team, club football, experience and injury history.
Firstly, national team d two should not be compared.Ideye has made is mark in d national team(afcon 2013)his contributions in that tournament was superb and enormous, though he lost his place in d team but later earned a recalled due to his current form but national team experience nothing can be said of Success.
Club football,i know a lot w said Ideye couldn't make it in EPL but forgetting w have a lot of super stars like de Maria,Baloteli, veron,Shevchenko that failed woefully in Premiership.Apart from being flopped at west brom,Ideye has been a good striker in his various club sides. He had a better club goal ratios than success, though injuries did not help success.
I don't know why w are clamouring for injury prone striker as d answer to eagles striking position. No doubt Success has d talent,d skill,d strength and pace but goal ratio is not d solution and to make matter worst very prone to injury and no coach w bank on injury prone player.Pls ask Anichebe,if not for injuries that hampered his football career and still hampering it,i w rate him than any other present Eagles strikers but i cannot pick him coz is injury prone.
I w never forget what happened during u17 that Awoniyi needs to come in for injured Success and salvaged d situation, success injury nearly ruined our chances at d tournament and till today d guy is still battling with injuries.
The question is this do w need to bank on injury prone player and to make d matter worst w are even rating him higher than players who have showed us what they can do in d national team.
Iheanacho rise in d national team doesn't gives player like success an automatic shirt in d national team coz in this thread w have been hearing Nwakili,Osimihen,Nwobodo, pls national team are not for kids but super kids like Iheanacho,Iwobi,Ndidi who proved to us they have it all to slug it out with big boys.
I remember against Algeria d big boys raised to d occasion to save us namely Mikel,Moses and Musa when he came in
A free injury Success should prove himself at Watford first b4 national team. Did you ever watch Success play at Granada? |

Kog45: Agreed, let iheanacho continue developing at man city and player like Iwobi continue having a playing time under a coach who is far better than Guardiola when it comes to player development.
This is d mistake Mikel made at chelsea developing under a wrong but world class coach Mourinho, anytime i watched Mikel i always shaking my head why should a talent be wasting like this(Nig vs Spain)but thank God he was still able to achieve but not at his potential coz he found himself at cross road,a DM at chelsea and AM/CM at S/E.
We are going towards that line again regards Iheanaho and i said time w tell may be d guy is developing or not.If not for Mikel talent that keeps him on which i don't think any Nigeria player have for now,w should have forget about him. Time will tell. |

joseph1013: If I tell you that Success is my favourite player in the U17 2013 set, you may not believe. Personally, I believe he would have scored more goals than Osimhen did if he played fully in UAE. He's very good.
BUT he is not reliable. From the little I have gathered about him in Watford, his lifestyle is not the type that will make him be at the optimum. I remember the first picture I saw with him and Ighalo, and I commented that I sincerely hope that Ighalo will influence him to be more of a professional. I think he has become worse. He is overweight and I doubt he cares about diet. I just checked his injury history and contrary to what thought, it wasn't as bad in Granada. From 2014-2016, he missed just 8 games to injury. In just 6 months at Watford, he has missed 13 games (and counting) to injuries. Something is wrong somewhere. I know Walter Mazzari is not an intense trainer, heck I don't know any Watford player that gets injured this way.
If he applies himself, he can play for the best of clubs in Europe. But he needs to apply himself, quit spending all that time on snapchat, and get in shape as a footballer. Focus is key for any youngster. Talent means nothing without application. Balotelli is a good example. Reason why I don't expect too much from these young African players. You no like Isaac Success pass me. He was the main star of his class of Golden Eaglets then followed by Musa Yahaya and Kelchi Iheanacho. Success is loaded but something is wrong somewhere. I hope he does not go the way of other disappointing former youth internationals. Another player I am getting worried about is Musa Yahaya. He got married on xmas Eve. Well, Goodluck to him. An injury free Success has more to offer than Brown Ideye. I jst hope he gets out of his injury mess as quickly as possible. |

CODMOK: Rohr Slams Eagles Door On Enyeama – I Called Him Over 10 Times And He Never Responded Nor Call Back
Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has given up on trying to convince former goalkepper Vincent Enyeama to come out of retirement and play for Nigeria.
Rohr ruled out any future contact with the Lille man after revealing that the 33 year old appears to have made up his mind to stick to his international retirement.
The Franco German coach said he tried reaching out at Enyeama when they had a goalkepper crisis before the game against Algeria, but Enyeama failed to take his calls and didn’t return them later.
” When we had crisis in our hands after Carl Ikeme’s injury, I called him (Enyeama) over 10 times and he never responded nor called back”, Rohr said to Owngoalnigeria.com.
” I am happy with how Daniel Akpeyi responded to the test when he was called up as emergency cover, but he needs to buckle up because we can’t solely depend on Ikeme”.

Mickael2: So you'd rather have Iheanacho as a second striker at City? crouch was once the first choice striker for England when he was at lowly Portsmouth, Alcacer was the main striker for Spain when he was at lowly Valencia. Iheanacho should move out, even if it means getting out of England. telling me that you want iheanacho to stay as a second striker at City just because you want a Nigerian in a top club is pure BS, no offence.
let me ask you a simple question, why did pep bring in Silva with Aguero? why didn't he bring in Aguero alone let's see him work his magic. or why didn't he bring in Silva alone with Iheanacho up top? I am abysmally shocked that you didn't reason that. he brought in Aguero and also provided a provider for him which Iheancho was lacking! do you think I just woke up and typed that? I watched it closely. which you obviously didn't. So you sincerely think at this critical stage in the league title chase that Pep would purposefully put 3 points on the line just in a bid to disarm Iheanacho? He simply did a squad rotation. Silva has been playing in almost all of City's recent games which included the hectic xmas fixtures. Una wan kill Silva? You have a Navas in the team so why not use him against Burnley. Not as if they were to play any of the top 6 teams. As for Iheanacho going on a loan move, me no agree o. He should still compete at City. Not just bc I want Nigerian players in big teams but because I want him to compete with the best. That would bring out the best in him. |

tbaba1234: Kelechi is not just having an off-day. The coach is not willing to give him a chance even when Aguero is out. A period on loan as the main man somewhere will boost his game and confidence, preparing him for the kind of fight, he needs to make at man city.
Kelechi is not the finished article, he needs games to refine the weak elements of his game. We want the best for him, even if it does not happen at Man city. You must always remember that Iheanacho is a second choice striker to Aguero. You mentioned in your last paragraph that he is not the finished article, which is what I have been saying since last year and almost got my head chopped off for it. Even when Aguero is injured Pep still did not have this high level of confidence on the boy. Pep knows Iheanacho more than even the most fanatic Iheanacho fan here. Pep knows the ability of every single player in the squad. He knows when and when not to play each player. The nature of the opposing defense also plays a part here. When Aguero is injured, he may chose to play De' Bruyne, Nolito or Iheanacho depending on the tactics he wants to adopt to unlock the opposing defense. I am sure you know by now that if Iheanacho plays as CF the best way of stopping him is to cut-off the ball supplies to him. You isolate him from the midfielders. I laugh when I see comments like "Pep purposefully played Navas with Iheanacho so he won't attain his full game level. Why didn't he start Silva with Iheanacho?". Do you think Pep would want to put 3 vital points at stake just bc he is trying disarm Iheanacho? At this critical stage when every win is vital for the title race? Iheanacho should not go on any loan spell in my Opinion. He should stay at City and fight for his place in the starting line-up. That competition would make himbetter. Besides, age is not on Aguero's side any more. This and maybe next season may jst mark his "crescendo". Iheanacho may just have a fantastic future ahead of him at City. |

I have followed this thing for two long. I have seen mind blowing talents like Giovanni Dos Santos and Gai Assulin fall on the way. Yet I have seen Aguero and Messi light up the football scene.
The secret (mostly from CR7) is never believe you are good enough. Keep working hard and believe you have more to offer. People like Robinho felt they knew it all and stopped working hard.
Balotelli believed the same and recently confessed that he just started working hard at Nice. So the likes of Iheanacho and Iwobi, K. Nwakali and C. Nwakali, Osimhen and Ndidi need the pressure to keep working hard. I know we have had this argument way back but let me jst cite something here. Aguero, Messi and Christiano Ronlado did not play the U17 world cup. Most of the stars that have emerged form the U20 WC have gone to do great things. Look at Maradona too. But the U17, the only star performer that managed to keep his head above is Sesc Fabregas. Mikel too tried. Don't you think we hype the U17 performance too much in this country? |

I'd stick with Ideye that has a we of keeping ours spectator blood pressure down a lil than a success that hasn't gotten a chance to prove himself in English top flight. Isaac Success even at his current state is a kind of player that when he gets hold of the ball you expect something to happen. Brown Ideye is a kind of player you'll like ....hennnn? so Ideye is playing in this game? Seriously speaking Isaac Success is about the most unfortunate of this new generation. You saw how he emerged highest goal scorer at CAF U17 only for him to be hit by injury in the second game of the U17 WC. During the U20 WC I dnt know how coach Manu would prefer Awoniyi over Success even though Success scored our first goal in the competition. He came in as a sub against North Korea and scored meanwhile Awoniyi that was the favored striker had not seen the back of the net. God should just deliver him from his injury problems. Isaac Success has more to offer than Brown Ideye. We don see Ideye finish |

komekn: Footballers have ups and downs, the question is how long will those ups and downs last.
Sometimes it is a reflection of environment being in the wrong team or needing the right team.
Iwobi has barely had a complete season in the top flight. And we are already putting a world class tag on him, the same thing follows for Kelechi.
I really do not get carried away with the emotional sentiment of being a Nigerian fan. The blind support that is so fickle in my opinion we are setting these boys up to fail. By putting unrealistic expectations on them.
They are very good players but a long way from being World class . It took Raheem Sterling about three seasons to get some consistency. In other words.........TheGoodJoe abeg help me complete am. You can see and feel the pressure on Iheanacho already. Iwobi is far less under pressure. Little was heard of him before he broke into the Arsenal starting 11. He has even surpassed many's expectations. I personally initially saw Iwobi as one of those mediocre English press hyped kids just like Akpom, Ibe and the likes. That guy has shown great potentials. Very skillful and plays with so much ease and confidence for a player his age. Iheanacho on his own part has been tagged (let me borrow a phrase from TheSuerNerd) 'world beater'. The expectation on him is so high and peeps always forget he is just 20years old. I personally see Iheanacho as a player that would do great things, but whether he would be a 'world beater' it is left to him. It is wrong for people to already start comparing him with Aguero. How was Aguero performing when he was 20? Did he have the kind of killer instinct Iheanacho has now? Aguero grew with time, so let us see Iheanacho grow with time. He is not.. I have learnt to maintain a moderate expectation of these young lads. Whether they would outperform or under perform expectations, it is left to them. |

Oh, and icon4s, Iwoni may have had a run of bad games, but no one asked for him to go anywhere because Wenger had faith in him enough to give him continual playing time. I think he only benched him twice or so after the OG incident and it wasn't in the EPL. That is hardly similar to Kelechi who gets 10 minutes sparingly and then a brandom starting slots once in a blue moon
Iwobi and Kelechi's situations are different.

chrisooblog: Hi Icon Happy New Year great forward line you have there iwobi will eventually end up in the AM role just like his uncle JJ who started on the left before moving permanently to the midfield. With Etebo his versatility as much as it is his strength might be his weakness jack of all trades master of non things. Yes we can move him around depending on the opponent and formation we are employing against them but in the end I see him best operating in the AM/SS role. Iheanacho has been decent in the CF position but I think he would be best playing of a main CF that's why I will not be quick to dump ideye or ighalo at least until osimhen, sadiq, awoniyi etc are ready Atleast Isaac Success and Olanrewaju Kayode are ready. They can replace Ighalo and Ideye IMO. We have been patient enough for those guys. As per Etebor's versatility, nothing wrong for his age. This is typical of talented young players. Iheanacho for eg can play AM, RWF, SS, CF. Iwobi can play both LWF and RWF, AM and even CM. Ndidi can play as CB and DM. Mikel their father can play DM, CM and AM. A young player's versatility makes him more marketable and very open to team's formation and tactics. The role Etebor would play in his next "big" move would to a large extent shapen the role he would play both for club and national team in future. I learnt he is on Arsenal's radar alongside Leicester and AS Monaco. 'Would love to see him team-up with Iwobi at the Emirates. |

I think I am liking what Mancity is helping Nigeria do: Converting Iheanacho to a CF. He should keep playing that position even if it is 45mins or 5mins per game. With time he will grow into that our much sought after CF for the Super Eagles.
After watching Iwobi play the "number 10" against Palace over the weekend, I began to think what Rohr would be thinking. Iwobi is a natural "number 10".
I began to think of a formation that would look like:
.................Iheanacho
Etebor(LWF).....Iwobi(AM).....Moses(RWF)
..............Mikel(CM) ...................Onazi/Ndidi(DM)
I chose to play Etebor as LWF forward because of his high mobility which makes him capable of switching from the left side of Midfield to attack. He can also easily support the LB. Also his eye for goal as he easily joins in the attack just like he did at Rio.
I had always wanted to play Iheanacho as the AM because of his work rate and over-all contribution at the edge of the box. But after watching Iwobi play that role I think we can free Iheanacho to play as CF. Iwobi is capable from that position. This team does not need a mediocre CF. Time to offload players like Ighalo and Ideye. Iheanacho could be the man for the CF job. |
