krattoss:Yes you are right. I am not conversant with the current CAF politics and what have you. I recall the Amos Adamu case. But what ever politics the NFF is playing they should remember our football development is paramount. |
TheGoodJoe:TheGoodJoe beg forget this Angelino and Maffeo matter small for now. The NFF was presented an opportunity to host the 2017 CAF U17 and they out rightly and instantaneously turned it down. Let us discuss this one now, now. 'Somebody' 'some where' may be reading. |
BascoVanVeli:Exactly! my brother. The stadiums in Uyo and the New one in PH are fantastic stadiums that can host any African tourney even if it is next month. Plus both states are big spenders and should be able to put up that tourney. It would also boost businesses hence revenues for both states. If the NFF does not know how to package and market this tourney to the states, I can personally do that for free for them. I just tire for this NFF. Seems it does not border them that we are not participating in any youth competition this year. |
NFF Rejects Caf’s Request To Host 2017 U-17 Nations Cup THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may have turned down a request from the Confederation of African Football, CAF to bail it out and host the 2017 edition of the African U-17 Championship. CAF had last week stripped Madagascar of the right to host the championship even as it had not made any concrete arrangement for another host. A reliable source at the NFF informed Sports Vanguard in Abuja that on Monday the federation received a letter from the continental body requesting it to bail it out by staging the competition scheduled to take place later in the year. According to our source who did not want to be mentioned, the NFF who has been battling a nagging financial crunch did not waste time in declining the offer. “Yes we have received a letter from CAF but there is nothing we can do to help them because we know the prevailing situation in the country. The nation is presently in recession and it will be foolish on our part to begin to request the government to venture into such. In fact that would have presented us in a very bad light before Nigerians.”The executive committee of CAF had met last Thursday in Libreville, Gabon and announced the withdrawal of the hosting right from Madagascar; a development many analysts believe is a way of getting back at the president of the Malagasy Football Federation, Ahmad Ahmad who is the only candidate that will contest the presidency of CAF with the age long incumbent, Issa Haytou. Hayatou a Cameroonian had been in charge of CAF since 1998 and despite a change of its bylaws last September to limit the tenure of its officers, CAF tactically left a window for him run again and if he expectedly wins, will be in office till 2021. Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/01/nff-rejects-cafs-request-host-u-17-nations-cup/ My comment: I personally feel the NFF should not have out rightly turned down the request. They could have at least first approached a few Corporate sponsors and or state governments to fund/invest in the fiesta. One or two states should be able to host the tourney. It is not a major tourney like the AFCON. Just 8 participating teams with at least 2 stadiums needed. Some states in Nigeria have up to 2 standard stadiums and there are some that need little funds to get them ready for such a competition. Or two neighboring states can come together and put up the show piece. Eg, Akwa-Ibom and Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River, Rivers and Bayelsa, Delta and Edo. Lagos state can even single handedly host it. Some of these states already have standard hotel accommodations and transportation system for such a fiesta including other logistics. AND ULTIMATELY THIS COULD HAVE BEEN ANOTHER CHANCE FOR OUR GOLDEN EAGLETS ![]() |

Ten12: ![]() Incompetency is written all over this your comment. |
TheGoodJoe:'Drills' you mean? ![]() You believe 'drilling' them in Camp is more exposure than sending them out on loan to get real match action? |
tbaba1234:Hahaha! That is typical of the AFCON group stage. Most of these players, especially the nations with numerous foreign pros, were just reassembled less than 2 weeks to kick-off. No time for major friendlies before the cup. Coaches have not gotten their tactics right which is responsible for the numerous boring draws. It is typical of the 1st group matches of the AFCON. From the second group games watch out as the title contenders will begin to ease out results. The teams that have impressed me the most in this tourney thus far are Zimbabwe and Morocco. Watching Morocco was like watching Nigeria play; their movements and passes even including their jersey. Mali was also impressive last night. I am personally in the habit of supporting under dogs in games. So, I have become a great fan of Guinea -Bissau. ![]() I wish any of the teams that has never won the AFCON to win it this time: Any of Senegal and Mali. They have always been there trying to rub shoulders with the power houses but nothing to for it. Zambia has left that category, so Mali or Senegal should be next. |
Define what you mean by average student. |

ucsparks:This question should be directed to you. |
Regina dust her daughter jare. |
Segadem:You get the point. |
Lazyerudite:That is why I said with 12points we are almost guaranteed at least to be among the best three 2nd placed teams. For the last edition of qualifiers the best three 2nd placed teams all finished with 11pts. Also I am not underrating any team. Nigeria has learnt this the bitter way. But I tell you that if we take all those games in our group serious we will take 12points from Libya and Seychelles combined. Talking about a possible withdrawal it is very possible. And there is no way Nigeria will not take the game against South Africa seriously. My conclusion is we are highly expected to top that group. |
TheGoodJoe:You sure believe so much in those ur youngsters.
|
midehi2:That is it. |
TheGoodJoe:I am not feeling for you because of City's present position but because of the attacks and criticisms you have been receiving since Sunday. And for the young players you talked about, if you are banking on that transition for City to grow, u are on a long thing o. |
Abeg make una leave TheGoodJoe o. I come dey feel for the guy sha. Let me analyze our chances of qualifying for the 2019 AFCON. We are in group E. Nigeria South Africa Libya Seychelles. Firstly, I would start by saying congratulations to Nigeria. This group is a reward for our improvement in FIFA ranking as we were the first seeded team in that group. Had Nigeria not been ranked within the top 12 we would have stood a chance of being pitted against any of the very strong teams in Africa just like how we got Egypt the last time. Comparing this group with our last AFCON qualifying group opponents: Egypt> South Africa Tanzania=Libya Chad>Seychelles We have a much easier group May I also mention here that the top teams in each group and 3best second placed teams will qualify for Cameroun 2019. Lets look first look at our opponents: 1. South Africa. This by far are our major rivals to the top spot in this group. One of their major strength is they are often unpredictable. They typically blow hot and cold so u do not know when they will blow hot and hit you hard. Another strength of theirs going into this qualifiers is Nigeria often underrate them. Our last match with them during 2015 AFCON qualifiers is one we would want to forget in a hurry. We were already celebrating AFCON qualification prio to that match. Thank God for Sone Aluko's late brace. Our last 3 games have ended in draws. The gap seems to have closed up we need to be wary of them. Another strength of theirs is they play better away. Nigeria is hosting them in the group opener we need to be wary. 2. Libya. The civil war ravaged country for the last two years have been playing their home games in neighboring Tunisia and Algeria. That has not really favored them. Their only ever cup title was the CHAN in 2014. They play some descent tactical football just like their North African neighbors but they are not as blessed with players with individual quality. Going by our pedigree and our recent rising profile in football we should collect all 6points from Libya. 3. Seychelles. A country of about 90 thousand inhabitants, though can be adjudged the weakest team in the group but have seen a continued rise in profile. All thanks to their continued involvement in U17 and U20 qualifiers. They hardly win games but they keep participating. They have also taken part in the last 3 editions of the COSAFA Cup. They finished 3rd in their group in last AFCON qualifiers, ahead of Lesotho. They were also drawn-by from the first round of AFCON 2019 qualifiers. So they are not completely at the bottom of the food chain. Nigeria should get 6points from Seychelles. 6points from Libya and Seychelles each means 12pts already. I can tell you that irrespective of what happens between Nigeria and South Africa with 12pts we should be finishing among the best 3 second placed teams. But we know we cannot lose to South Africa home and away. It means AFCON 2019 is almost guaranteed for us ON PAPAER. I believe Rohr and his troop will deliver the goods for us. |
lollmaolol:I was born in Lagos. I had my primary and Secondary education in Lagos. I got my first and second working experiences in Lagos (Commercial road, Apapa and Alpha Beach road, Lekki). I lived in Lagos for the first 29 years of my life. I know Lagos very well. I now live outside Lagos, and I have stayed in different cities in the world, and I can tell you that Lagos is unnecessarily too expensive. Even foreigners say the same thing. |
abdul4new:4M in this 2017? |
okochaik:Maybe in 2013 but not in this 2017. |
No be Lagos? An over-hyped City. |
Segadem:I know na. Even Including Pep. His aging has so accelerated ever since he came to the EPL. |
Segadem:goldfish80:
Is Otamendi getting old too? Dude is just 28... He should be in his prime. Most of Man city players are dipping in form including Iheanacho
You mean Iheanacho too is aging? ![]() |
zicky:'Ball playing keeper' indeed. Them for just kukuma convert am to defender make dem go find new keeper. Even the "ball playing John Stones' turn to Everton player yesterday-just dey give Everton striker assists. Sebi na Everton he dey before. He forgot he is now a City player. |
zicky:That Bravo IMO is about the worst goalie in the EPL this season. He only managed to catch one shot in yesterday's game. |
TheGoodJoe:How can you integrate into the team all these youngsters at once na. This is no youth league o. Anyways, I am not surprised. Pep will 'drill' them in camp. |
TheSpellChecker:Tell them o. I think the native tongue of pronouncing 'bell' as 'bail' (igbotic) affected them. cc: Caskel428 |
castel428: It is 'Who can Bell the cat' and not 'Who can bail the cat'. Take this correction now and thank me later. ![]() This expression originated in one of Aesop's fables as retold by William Langland in Piers Ploughman (1377), in which the mice decide to put a bell around the cat's neck as a warning device but then can find none among them who will actually do it. https://www.google.com.ng/#q=who+can+bell+the+cat |
Who send me o........
|
hisgrace090:It is "bell". To topic. As rightly said by Henry Boyo, the current CBN monetary policy is what is killing our economy. |
