My apologies, I didn't mean to be rude. But I was a little bemused by all the excuses some of y'all are making for a covert racist comment cloaked as a backhanded compliment. C''mon, yes, we weren't there but I know for sure that he couldn't have seen any Senegalese player selling sunglasses because all the Senegalese players are fulltime professional footballers. O pari alignacademy: |
So because he called them "resourceful chaps", that makes the crap he said acceptable to you? Whom amongst the Senegalese players has he met selling sunglasses ![]() It's airheads like yourself who make white folks to disrespect black people #Mugu O pari alignacademy: |
Fake news! So here's the tally: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) - 85 goals in 152 appearances Ferenc Puskás (Hungary & Spain) – 84 goals in 89 And they are still giving Cristiano all these accolades? Somebody needs to take a class in maths. These media propaganda is really sickening O pari |
Again, facts are facts. The fact is, he was on the bench when Portugal won the Euro. I am not blaming him for getting injured but the fact is that he didn't play more than 20 mins in the final. Hence, giving him credit for winning the Euro Cup for Portugal is disrespectful to the players who actually played the game. The media might be giving him credit for everything but when the history is written, the real credit for Portugal winning the Euro should go to all the unsung heroes in that team. To me, Portugal won the Euro in spite of Cristiano Ronaldo not because of him. I think one of the worst media propaganda is trying to make everyone believe that this Portugal team is nothing without Cristiano. That is too far from the truth. They don't even give credit to the coach, who's actually the architect of the whole thing. O pari saintkeppy: |
I totally agree with you. I don't see CAF doing anything even if they want to, because these countries belong in the same federation with us and that's how it would remain. The only option to prevent from wasting our slots is to stop them by beating them in the qualifiers. Hopefully, the expansion of world cup teams starting in 2022 world cup would help us achieve that aim ... provided that CAF doesn't pack strong West African teams into one or two groups sha. O pari TheSuperNerd: |
Nna, you and I knew this but those who run out football are clueless. If you follow me on twitter, if you'd have noticed how much I pledged with the NFF to retain Samson Siasia, despite losing to Egypt, after he took over from Oliseh; but Amaju and his crew were hell-bent on hiring a foreign coach! There's no question in my mind that given the same support they have given Rohr, Samson Siasia would've done even better than Rohr. O pari Joebie: |
KPOM! Baba, icon, you hit the nail squarely on the head right there! That's why, I hope that Nigeria can retain Gernot Rohr after this world cup regardless of how we do. Let's give him another chance to continue his project and see how he performs at the AFCON next year. it doesn't serve us well to hire and fire coaches after every single tournament. O pari Icon4s: |
Just like Nigeria, sometimes Cameroun tend to self destruct (just like in Brazil 2014). As per the Egypt or Morocco's group, let me tell you that this Portugal team isn't that great. I don't see them making it past the round of 16. Morocco would've beaten them if they had taken their chances and/or didn't gift Cristiano Ronaldo a FREE header. Morocco clearly outplayed them today. As regards to Iran, even Stephen Keshi's team with all the problems they encountered were still able to outplay Iran in 2014. Iran was lucky to escape with goalless draw in that game. Go watch the game again on youtube. So I can't see how either Ghana or Cameroun would have much problems getting a result against them. Even Morocco clearly outplayed them but then shoot themselves on the foot with a last minute own goal. Trust me, you'll see how weak these teams (Iran, Russia, Portugal) are when/if they get to the round of 16. O pari andrew444: |
Good point - especially at the highlighted. O pari TheSuperNerd: |
Nerdie, that's the problem! These North Africans tend to up their game when they meet African oppositions, but they always get intimidated when they get to the world stage. I mean, you know as well as I do that Ghana would've gotten a result against Uruguay and would've, most likely, beaten Russia. There's nothing special about Russia. Watch them collapse against Uruguay in the next game. O pari TheSuperNerd: |
Bingo! And like I said yesterday, that's the problem we had in the game against Croatia. Rohr tried to make us play with defensive organization that those Scandinavian countries. But that's not in our DNA. Senegal on the other hand who are coached by a son of the soil, came with their typical African football, with pace and power, and they got a result. O pari Joebie: |
Big Joe, I am big supporter of that idea myself; however, that might not even be the panacea to having these mediocre Arab countries from representing us. Because they tend to play well against African oppositions, it's only when they get to the world stage that they often forget how to play football O pari Joebie: |
You can never count on the North Africans to come through for Africa. Once you get on the world stage, their feet turn to clay. Put either one of Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroun, or Senegal (take your pick) into any of these North African World Cup groups (Egypt, Morocco, or Tunisia) and we'll be talking about, at a minimum the round of 16. Let's hope that Nigeria and Senegal makes it to the round of 16, so that we can make a case for CAP to form a separate zone for the North African countries. They haven't represented Africa well. In fact, they are wasting our slots. For instance, there's no doubt in my mind that Ghana or Cameroun would've done much better than Morocco, Egypt or Tunisia! O pari |
Morocco killed themselves today, same as in the first game (versus iran). How can you give an opportunist like Cristiano Ronaldo a FREE header inside the box ![]() And to add insult to injury, they turned out to be goal shy as well Unbelievable!!! O pari |
KPOM! Truer words have never been spoken, my brother! O pari Diickrider: |
Actually, Leo Messi has won the U-12 World Cup, won the Olympic Gold Medal, led Argentina to two COPA America Finals (a tournament tougher than the Euro) and then singlehandedly led Argentina to the finals of the World Cup and won the MVP. Now what has Ronaldo achieved with Portugal? Because the last time I checked, Portugal won the Euro without him! O pari Jokerman: |
Listen, except from Etebo and Ndidi, none of them puts in enough effort in that match. Short and simple! O pari Sportilitica: |
African teams have scored more OWN GOALS at this World Cup than the rest of the world combined! O pari |
Word right out of my mouth. I was just about posting the same thing when I saw your post. You've said it all, buddy. To add anything else would be most uncivilized. O pari ChrisKels: |
Actually, that could be a double edged sword. I am a big believer in talking up your opponent in the media, to make them overconfident and complacent. However, a good coach shouldn't overplay that card the way Rohr did before the match against Croatia. It created fear in our players and made them play with timidity. They showed too much respect to Croatia and that's exactly why they lost the match. Being the underdog should make you play without fear because you have nothing to lose. But in this case, it had the opposite effect. Talking from personal experience here, I would rather have my coach instill in me that I can beat my opponent. That works ALL the time. O pari BascoVanVeli: |
Good point. That Colombian team is pretty good. They were just so unlucky with the early red card today. I expect them to win the next two matches, but I still expect Senegal to make the round of 16. I believe that Senegal will beat Japan. O pari asha80: |
Nna, I thought I was the only one who noticed that defeatist attitude from Gernot Rohr. Here's what I posted on twitter on Sunday afternoon: Mexico Coach Osario before game vs GERMANY "The fans would feel good about the team after 90mins." Nigeria Coach Rohr before game vs Croatia "They are much better than us." O pari kennysville: |
Same here. Initially, I thought he was just trying to deceive our opponents by making them feel over confident. But I started having doubt once he started singing the same tune at every freaking opportunity! I felt that he's starting to make his team lose confidence. Have you ever seen a boxer who goes into the ring telling you that he doesn't stand a chance because his opponent is much better than him? O pari Odunayaw: |
LOL, don't mind them. Pace and power game is our style of play. And that's the ONLY way we can compete and defeat the Euro teams. We can't beat them with defensive organization. No way! O pari Goke7: |
Did everyone noticed how hard Sadio Mane is working in this game? Both in the defensive and in the offensives ends of the field. That's what you call LEADING BY EXAMPLE. Now, compare that to Mikel's meek effort in the game against Croatia! Tells you everything you need to know. O pari |
Bingo! Like I said on twitter last Saturday, my biggest problem was the timid display we exhibited against Croatia. I have never seen a Nigerian side play with such fear of the opposition since South Africa 2010. I am really getting sick and tired of these European journeymen we call coaches. O pari kennysville: |
They are playing like a true Sub-Saharan African team. Disrupting Poland with their power and pace. We could've easily beaten Croatia if we had played this style against them, but Gernot Rohr decided to go the opposite it. Rohr would always remind you that Croatia is better than us because "if you look at the FIFA ranking they are ranked way higher than us." But remember that, going by FIFA ranking, Poland is ranked higher than Croatia. Imagine if their coach had adopted that attitude? O pari Odunayaw: |
The question I kept asking myself is: is it because there's no women left in the world that a man would prefer to take another man's well used vehicle? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. O pari kennygee: |
KPOM!!! Their coach is the legendary Jose Pekerman. One of the most brilliant football minds in the world! O pari Odunayaw: |
This is what you call hard work! With 10 men, Colombia is still dominating Japan and was able to get an equalizing goal. And if they continue this way, they may even win the match playing 10 against 11. Kudos to the Colombians so far! O pari |
FACT: So far all the other African countries (Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia) have been unlucky to lose and none has lost by more than 1 goal except Nigeria. The other countries can blame hardluck for their inability to get something from their matches but Nigeria got beat and got beat fairly easily Meanwhile, even the Asian minnows are rising up. Japan 1 Colombia 0. If they can hold on, then it would only remain CAF (Africa) that is yet to get a win or even a point so far at this World Cup ![]() O pari |
That's my parapo right there, folks ![]() O pari |

As for Cameroon, well they were just unfortunate to be grouped with us.
