Did you watch the game ![]() The ball didn't hit any other part of Rojo's body before hitting his hand. He attempted to head out the ball and MISSED, then be ball hits his hand. A clear penalty! Again, he jumped with his arms up, missed his header and diverted it with his hand. O pari princeade86: |
That was a penalty all day and a penalty and half on Sundays. Even the VAR reviewers felt that it was a penalty, that's why they asked the referee to consult the VAR. That one was even more of a penalty than the one given in the Iran Portugal game! An absolute coward of a ref simply refused to see (even via a VAR check) an obvious 2nd penalty for Nigeria! Yet more evidence of the corruption of FIFA, as the ref was clearly under instruction from FIFA to do anything to help Argentina win the match. ...and why? .....simply because of corporate sponsorship revenue in Argentina. It's in FIFA's interest that Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo stay as long as possible in the world cup. It's all about money! And by the way, no-one has seems to have made a comment on why Rojo was still on the pitch, he should have gone in the 1st half with the head high challenge in the box on Iheanacho! I thought that was a penalty but the pundits went on as if Rojo has made a brilliant challenge and Iheanacho shouldn’t have had his head there!! FIFA isn't about Fair Play at all! Nigeria should have had 3 penalties, while Argentina should have had several more yellow cards and even one red card with the double leg challenge earlier in the game! It's disgraceful! Bros, I agree with you that Rohr should be retained for a few reasons which I can't enumerate now because I have a meeting in less then 15 mins. However, I will vote to retain him with a proviso to make, at a minimum, the AFCON finals or be fired. Having said that, I was quite disappointed with his team yesterday. We, like Sweden against Germany, did not have the belief and confidence to take the game to Argentina and we suffered as a result. We needed to press and put the ageing and slow Argentine defense under pressure but instead we brought everyone back to try and protect a 1-1 scoreline. Any team, as Croatia did, that attacks the ageing Argentine defense will expose them to the full. I congratulated our technical crew after the second half against Iceland. We finally, after playing some nonsense long balls for a game-and-a-half, we utilized the strengths of Musa and Iheanacho, their pace and close ball control, and ran at the Icelandic defense line. So I was disappointed that we started by lofting high balls against Argentina once again. It was too late and we were too tired, after chasing the ball for over 45 mins, by the time we started running at Argies. And in addition, I had expected the coach to make more changes early in the second half. Players like Etebo, who was having a great game but started getting tired around the 70th minute, should've been subbed out to make room for a fresh leg like John Ogu. I think Ogu may lack Etebo's high workrate but he's as good or even better defensively. Furthermore, I was quite surprised that Rohr didn't think about bringing in Tyroone Ebuehi in place of Idowu to run at the Argies in the second half. If I remember correctly, Ebuehi had a dazzling performance against them during our friendlies. All in all, I was quite disappointed with Rohr but it's still in our best interest to keep him for now. O pari chrisooblog: |
Yea, that man strikes me as an overly cautious man. He's forgetting that even though Idowu scored in that game; apples to apples (take away that goal), Ebuehi puts in a better performance in that game than Idowu. Ebuehi was dazzling in that game. Watch he would introduce Ebuehi in the second half. The man often tends to leave his best cards for the second half. Strange fellow O pari ykalhaji: |
Haha!! Bros, I am already stocking up on meats and beer ... to celebrate Cristiano Ronaldo's world cup ouster on Saturday. O pari Odunayaw: |
Thank you, my dear. That's why I rarely take those pundits serious. I mean, objectively speaking, Nigeria would be favored in this game because two obvious facts: 1. We're in better form - Nigeria: L W . Argentina: D L 2. We've performed better against same oppositions: NGR vs CRO (0-2), vs ISR (2-0). ARG vs ISR (1-1), vs CRO (0-3). And by the way, don't forget that Diego Maradona played his LAST World Cup match against Nigeria. Hence, it's possible that Leo Messi's LAST World Cup game should come against Nigeria as well ![]() O pari LieDetector: |
So in your opinion Japan "trashed Colombia"? Are you for real ![]() Colombia played against Japan with 10 men against 11 for 83 mins and still outplayed Japan! In fact, Colombia were unlucky not to get something out of that match. Bottom line, Colombia would have defeated Japan easily if that game had been 11 against 11 for the entire game. And honestly, I don't expect Senegal to get a result against Senegal but we can still hope sha. Stranger things have happened. O pari forgiveness: |
I don't believe this "exclusive". The official line up would come up in about 3 hours, so I would disregard this line up until I see something official from the NFF twitter feed. But if this turns out to be official then I would say that Rohr needs to have his head examined. Like I said during the first half of the Iceland game, you can't play a 3-5-2 formation with Idowu as your LB because he's not a wing back. If we really need to play 3-5-2 then we gotta have Ebuehi RWB and VicMo LWB or vice versa. I made that recommendation on twitter during the first half of the Iceland game and Rohr switched to that line up in the second half and that automatically changed the game. Hence, if Rohr goes back to Idowu then I will conclude that the man is a slow learner. O pari LieDetector: |
My people, Nigeria vs Argentina is the MOST anticipated match of this world cup so far. Everybody wants to know if this is going to be Messi's last world cup match. And all the pundits at FOX Sports (including Guus Hiddink, who's usually fair and balanced) think that Messi is going pull it off, as he did during the qualifiers. But Clarence Seerdof is holding down the fort for Africa. He thinks that this Nigerian team is coming together and would squeeze through. And for that, I say, Clarence Seerdof for President!!! O pari |
Actually, Messi is only 31 and Cristiano Ronaldo is almost 34. Hence, if Cristiano could do it at age 34, I don't see why Messi can't do it at age 35. My only concern is that the disorganization with the Argentina FA would force Messi to quit the national team again. That would be a big loss for world footie. O pari ykalhaji: |
GBU there, my brother!!! You nailed it right there! It's the whole media bias that turned me into an unrepentant Messi fanatic. Take for instance, when Messi lost a penalty, it was portrayed as the worst thing that has ever happened in the game of football. To hear the way they piled on, it was as if Leo Messi is the first top player to ever miss a penalty in the World Cup. And by the way, this Cristiano's miss is as big if not bigger than Messi's miss. Cristiano has potentially cost his country a potential quarter finals finish. I mean, let's face it, they should've been favored against Russia but I don't see them getting a result against Uruguay. Uruguay ain't gonna be as "charitable" as either Iran or Spain. To me, the round of 16 would be the end of the road for Cristiano and Portugal at this world cup. O pari Odunayaw: |
So the FAKE Ronaldo has lost a penalty as well? OK, let's see how much noise the fake news media is going to make on this missed penalty because I knew that we didn't stop hearing about it when Leo Messi lost one.Meanwhile, lemme laugh in French again. O pari |
Nah, that ain't gonna happen. I am all Super Eagles tomorrow. As we say in Igbo, Nkem be nkem, nke anyi be nke anyi. Rought translation: Mine is mine, ours is ours. O pari andrew444: |
Safari, for the first time since 2014, I would be rooting against Messi on Tuesday. I feel for Messi but Tuesday would be his last game at this World Cup. I pray and hope that Messi stick around tho .... I think he's still got one more World Cup in him - 2022 might be his year. O pari safarigirl: |
Actually, I have been busy plotting the downfall of Argentina. The Argies must fall on Tuesday ... come rain, come shine!!! O pari AIG07: |
This man makes more excuses than a toodler, I tell ya! Can somebody ask him to name the star players in the Icelandic team? Can somebody ask him to tell us the FIFA ranking of Senegal vis-à-vis Poland? And while at it, he should tell is what the FIFA ranking of Mexico is compared to Germany! This man is beginning to annoy me for real. Does he think that we're fools? He has a team for 2022, then why did he bother coming to the 2018 World cup since he's not ready? Why waste money and slot competing in a tournament you're not ready to play in ![]() Until now, I have always advocated retaining him to maintain consistency but right now I don't know any more O pari forgiveness: |
LOL. Don't tell that to Gernot Rohr. As far as Rohr is concerned, Iceland is much better than us because their FIFA ranking is higher than us. My question to him was, why do we even bother playing the game if FIFA ranking tells you the best team? We might as well just award the trophy to the highest FIFA ranked team in the world. The man is a joker ![]() O pari forgiveness: |
If you really wanna give your wife a gift, give it to her directly. Don't post it on twitter, Instagram or wherever. After all, she lives with you in the house not on instagram O pari |
@ the highlighted. Everybody seems to know that except Gernot Rohr. He wants to live and die with Jude Ighalo O pari tbaba1234: |
Doing well for where? With all the money Lagos state is generating, anybody can "do well" as the governor of the state. That's how you natives turned Bola Tinubu into a demi god O pari Paperwhite: |
No wonder he denied Morocco a clear penalty in the first half. CAF really needs to start protesting some of these calls. The penalty call against Ekong, for instance, I have seen worse holding during corner kicks that weren't called. And I can assure you that that call wouldn't have been made if it had been the other way. O pari |
Yup. In that formation: Etebo - box 2 box midfielder Ndidi - DM cum Destroyer Obi - DM cum deep lying playmaker Iwobi - In the #10 role Kelechi - #9 Along with your two wingback (Ebuehi and Moses) That's a very balanced team right there! O pari soetanoreoluwa: |
My brother, honestly, that's the formation that gives us the best chance to win. But I doubt if Gernot Rohr would be bold enough to experiment with that formation. Rohr is not a bully coach, does not exhume much confidence, not ambitious(based on the his interviews) and this is rubbing off on the team. O pari TheSuperNerd: |
Honestly, I think we could've beaten Croatia with this formation and a real game plan. There was nothing special about that Croatian team, we just let them off the hook. O pari soetanoreoluwa: |
Bros, how do I post this link on here? Thanks https://www.buildlineup.com/shared/5b2b8af4138c092e24ab85f1 O pari TheLoneCitizen: |
Folks, please, how do you paste this line up builder image on here ![]() O pari |
What does Peterside Idah know about the team to make such a pronouncement? Is he a part of the technical crew ![]() O pari COOL10: |
This assessment is right on point. I could've written the same thing myself! O pari robosky02: |
Again, which Portugal squad is mediocre? Please don't believe the media propaganda. Let me give you a few names in the current Portugal team and please tell me if these players can be called mediocre: Raphael Guerreiro Borussia Dortmund Bernardo Silva Man City Joao Moutinho AS Monaco Andre Silva AC Milan Goncalo Guedes Valencia Ricardo Quaresma Besiktas William Carvalho Sporting Adrien Silva Leicester City Ruben Dias Benfica Mario Rui Napoli Pepe Besiktas Ricardo Pereira FC Porto Joao Mario West Ham, etc etc. Please do yourself a favor, forget the media propaganda .... they are all aimed towards one goal: to promote Cristiano Ronaldo as a super man. This Portuguese team is a very good team with a fantastic coach. O pari saintkeppy: |
Again, the KEYWORD in your statement is "If Messi have the followin' Players in his Squad'. News flash: well, he didn't. Angel Di Maria got injured in the quarter finals of the COPA America and didn't play any other game. Same thing happened during the 2014 World Cup. He got injured and didn't play after the quarter finals. I stand corrected but I am pretty sure that Sergio Aguero also got injured in during the COPA as well. In addition, Aguero doesn't even play well for Argentina. Go check his records. Tevez has not been with the team since 2012, I believe. Dybala was not in the COPA America team either. Icardi is currently not in the team. Listen, Argentina may have bigger names (on paper) but as a team Portugal has a better squad. Like I was telling a friend last Saturday, how do you expect Messi to score when you have Banega selecting ridiculous shots from everywhere on the field instead of passing the ball to a better placed Messi. Omo, Argentina may have good players but they don't have a team. And by the way, are you aware that for one year during the South American world cup qualification series, no other Argentine player besides Messi scored a goal for Argentina? So you gotta ask yourself some of these questions: - Why does Angel Di Maria tend to get injured during any major tournament? - Why is it that World Class players like: Sergio Aguero, Higuaín, Dybala etc play well for their football clubs but never play well for Argentina? - Why is the Argentine FA so dysfunctional that even their best coaches (Diego Simeone; Mauricio Pochettino, Marcelo Bielsa, etc.) don't want anything to do with their national team? If you think that the NFF is dysfunctional, wait until you deal with the AFA!!! Listen, it takes more than a great player to win a major tournament. It takes a team, a good technical crew, and a good organization. O pari saintkeppy: |
