Of course, Siasia was selfish ... as he should be, he's a top striker not an assist man grin

But to compare him with a hit and miss like Ideye is an insult, to say the least. With Siasia, you'd be sure that he would bury his chances more than 75% of the time. With Ideye Brown, you can even count on him to convert 25% of his chances. Ideye is simply not good enough for the Super Eagles. He has never been, never will. I had always maintained that stance even when we had Emmanuel Emenike doing all the work and some folks were trying to give undue credit to Ideye.

O pari

wayodude:
Legendary Siasia abi??

Do you remember the 1994 World Cup Qualifier against Ivory Coast? We were 1 nil up right there in Abidjan in front of 50,000 boisterous Ivorian fans. We were under the cosh big time and we hit them with a fast counter, it was Siasia and Yekini with only the CIV keeper (I remember his Alain Goumene) to beat and we go 2 nil up and win the game for sure. What did Siasia do? He didn't even work the keeper, he put the ball wide!! We ended up losing that game 2-1 and he got benched for Amokachi for the subsequent games and rightly so!

Legendary? no thanks. He is no different from Ideye.

That's all I gotta say ... for now sad

O pari

Ideye behind any striker always remind me of Samson Siasia.

Siasia always brought the best in any top 9 ahead of him.Siasia gave Monday Odiaka the name and was instrumental to early rise of Yekini.

Ideye should have been a perfect replacement but really surprised he was left out by keshi after solid performance with Emenike and with his performance with Iheanacho, Rohr still don't rate him.

We just need to move on with the young ones coming up and hope Rohr get good rhythm for the team

And by the way, that's NOT rhetorical question.

O pari

goldfish80:
The reason Rohr was cut in a no man's land to bring on subs who will close the game out, was because he couldn't sub Ighalo out who was a sub himself. This was the reason he was helpless at the dugout, knowing Ighalo was one of his biggest players.
SportsRe: N´Golo Kanté And The Mini Cooper S Car He Drives (PHOTO) by Icon79(m): 7:39pm On Jul 17, 2018
He really didn't have a bad game against Croatia. Problem is, he had an early yellow card which impacted game. You don't wanna get sent off in the world cup finals. Hence, he played too cautiously, with minimal aggression, and Didier Deschamps was right to substitute him. All in all, he was the French best player at this world cup.

O pari

GavelSlam:
Ngolo Kante, an extra player on the pitch for any team that has him.

He runs, tackles, passes, and anywhere the ball is, he there or thereabouts.

I've only once seen him have a bad day and that was at the world cup final against Croatia.

N'zonzi was a capable replacement.

Nevertheless, Kante is a 12th man for his team.

Nigerian democracy is a farce. There are NO elections in Nigeria - zero! What we have in Nigeria is a rigging contest. Whomever rigs better (more) wins the election. Even the so called "most free and fair election" won by MKO Abiola was a rigging contest as well.

Back to the questions. If Croatia goes on to win the world cup, will Kalinic receive a medal been that he was registered for the tournament prior to the time he was sent home by his coach? Will he be treated as a player who got an injury that ruled him out for the rest of the tournament in the first match?

SportsRe: Company Workers Threaten Strike In Italy Over Ronaldo’s Move To Juventus by Icon79(m): 2:41pm On Jul 12, 2018
Quite an obscene amount of money on an overrated ageing player.

Like I posted on the BBC website; The real big winners in this whole Cristiano Ronaldo shenanigan is Real Madrid. Perez scored a big coup selling a player on his last throes for such a huge amount of money. As for Juve, they can win Serie A as usual but I don't see them winning the Champions league. Bottom line, Cristiano won't make Juve that much better ...he can't perform without the likes of Modric, Kroos, and Casemiro doing all the work

I'm pretty sure this is not a great deal for all the other Italian clubs, and I still don't see how Juve get that much out of it; they win the title (serie A) every year anyway and do well in the CL. There are only 3 clubs big enough to feed Ronaldo's ego Man Utd , Barca and Real Madrid. Unfortunately, Madrid don't want him any more and Barca doesn't need him. As per Man Utd, trust me, Jose Mourinho is too smart and too savvy a businessman to spend over $120m on an overrated and ageing player. And Mourinho should know better having coached Cristiano at Real Madrid, so he knows how overrated Cristiano really is. And you can quote me on that!

I think that Ronaldo will find like Neymar that nobody cares about the French or Italian leagues. All the world wide interest are on PL/La liga.

AIG, you normally make a lot of sense but not this time. Listen, all the players who played for us in Russia (including Kelechi) had enough games this past season to keep them match sharp. Our players tend to gas out early in Russia not because we were never in control of the game in any of our matches. You can control the game with or without the possession, mind you! But our problem is that we never controlled any aspect of the games, rather we were always chasing the ball. And you get tired out easily when you're chasing and chasing the ball throughout the game. Hence, the lack of game time has nothing to do with what happened to us in Russia. In that case, all the blames should squarely go to the technical crew.

O pari

AIG07:
World Cup is not meant for a team full of professional bench warmers.

Our players lack of playing time at their various clubs affected them at the World Cup. We are not known for ball possession. A team that doesn't play possessive style must be agile. Cos they will expend more energy chasing every ball. Cover more distance and have the ball less which can be frustrating at the same time.

The bitter truth is this-we wouldn't have stand any chance of progressing beyond the round of 16 even if we had qualified ahead of Argentina.

Our players struggled to play 90Mins football. 90% of them gases out at the 70th minute. They become so tired that they Struggle to keep./hold on to the final minute. It was really glaring through out our friendlies and the world cup matches.

The few that performed were those playing regular 90mins for their clubs e.g Musa thanks to his CSKA move, Ebuehi, Etebo, Moses and Mikel to some extent.

I tthink we need to tell ourselves the plain truth. Players warming the bench are not good for competitive matches. Moses was the culprit in 2014. But this year, it wasn't one or two players but almost the whole team.

To win, you must be ready to play 120min football see Croatia see Russia see Belgium, see France see England 90% of their players are 90mins regular players at their clubs. The agility required for this stage is there and so, they can all go on to play 120mins football and that's one of the reason they are in the Semis.

The World Cup is not for the faint hearted. Team spirit is good but not enough. There is nothing they can do even when the spirit is willing but the body is weak. They will have no option than to give in.

We need to get rid/minimize the numbers of bench warmers in our national team. Players, irrespective of who they are, where they play, not clocking atleast 70mins football week in week out don't deserve to be in the national team.

*MODIFIED*
This in return will make the players sit up and bend down. We need to stop encouraging mediocrity.

We took a permanent bench cleaner in a second division in Echiejile to World Cup thinking Miracle will happen over night. We were counting on Kelechi, a player who barely clocked a 1000min for his club as a back up striker for one that has been on goal drought since God knows when.
We were hoping for Miracle from Uzoho a relatively newbie who is still an apprentice to save us.
We had bench of pregnant players, half fit/injury prone ones.

We are a joke for thinking we can pull a surprise.

The national Team is not meant to groom players. No. If you are not performing at your club or playing as a starter kindly stay out.

Playing time is very important in modern day soccer. Loew made a great mistake starting Neuer as first choice goalkeeper. The guy wasn't at his best and so couldn't keep his poor team in the competition. Enough of all this training performances. Match day actions are miles different from training performances.

Our technical committee needs to step up their game. Sit Rohr down and talk some sense into him. get a sound coach as assistant for him and if he is not willing to change he should go four years is not far let the planning begins.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon79(m): 4:10pm On Jul 09, 2018
Abeg, mek we hear word jor! This is an average England team as always. They are where they are today for two reasons:
- they received a favorable draw. Nigeria would have qualified from their group!
- two, the referee helped them against Colombia coupled with a little bit of luck during the penalty kicks. All things being equal, they would've been eliminated in the round of 16, so I don't understand all the hype.

O pari

komekn:
I will be brutally honest and unashamedly biased.

Overwhelming number of black players who have skill and pace, half the outfield players in the team are black.

Dele Alli, Lingard, Rueben Loftus-Cheek, Marcus Rashford, Raheem. These players bring the much needed skill, technical ability and panacea.

Otherwise England usually has a majority of carpenters type predictable players.

Omo, did you watch Argentina vs France, and did you see the kind of trouble Kylian Mbappe caused the ageing Argentine defenders and DMs? Well, that's the kind of trouble Tyrone Ebuehi would have caused them as well. Take it from someone who knows, a few minor tweaks would have easily won us that game against Argentina:
- play Ebuehi RWB or LWB
- play VicMo LWB or RWB
- play Musa central

And see how they would've ran the Argies ragged. As regards to Tyrone having trouble defending Messi, Ehuehi is actually a better defender than people make him out to be. And in addition, he wasn't gonna defend Messi all by himself. After all, the primary responsibility for marking Messi in that game was on Etebo not Idowu.

Bottom line, Rohr goofed up big time because he doesn't know what his best team is.

O pari

Certitude:
That's if we are to view it from an attacking point. Ebuehi is a better player than Idowu but I'm particular to playing against Messi on that left side. I don't think he would have performed better.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon79(m): 3:49pm On Jul 09, 2018
You made some good points except for trying to blame VicMo for our attacking woes in Russia. Except for our first game against Croatia, VicMo played as a Wingback in Russia.

As regards to the rest of your arguments, here are some facts I would leave with you and everyone else:
1. Gernot Rohr is definitely NOT the right man for the job. This world cup clearly exposed his technical deficiencies as a coach. And the fact that after nearly two years at the helm, Rohr still doesn't know what's his best team is sadly disappointing.
2. Based on everything I have seen, Rohr has taken this team as far as he could take them. Fact: the 3 first games he had with this team - vs Zambia (away), Algeria (home), and Cameroun (home) were his best performances with this team. Since that time the team standard has actually started going down rather than improving.
3. Samson Siasia would have done much better with this team if he were given the same support and the freehand Gernot Rohr received.

Having said all that, I still think we should retain Rohr simply because firing him would take us back another 4 years. For instance, if we are to fire Rohr today, the NFF isn't gonna replace him with Siasia or with even a more competent foreign coach. Rather, if we fire him, the NFF would replace him with that charlatan, Yusuf! To me, that would be going from frying pan to fire. Hence, all things considered, I believe that it's in our best interest to stick with Gernot Rohr at least through the AFCON. Let's give him a mandate to make, at least, the finals of AFCON or get fired.

i've read many reasons of what caused our ouster but i think alot of them are unrealistic. for one based on the calibre of players we paraded it wasn't a huge surprise that we couldn't make it out of our group. compared to croatia and argentina most of our players are not world beaters. people may say o but argentina was terrible but it took a french team full of world class players to best them. As much as rohr has his faults in the way he coached the super eagles at the world cup the truth is if odion had buried his chances we probably won't be having this conversation. sacking him with the mindset that the next person will perform magic and tactically turn your average players to world beaters is plainly delusional. you can have the best tactics but if your personnel are not up to scratch then unless your opposition is seriously off form and you are playing out of your skin more often than not you will lose. even klopp that said with lesser teams you can beat more talented opposition why is he not coaching bristol city or watford or huddersfield to prove his point. he prefers to coach teams that have appreciable levels of talent that will give him a chance. bringing it back to why we didn't succeed in russia i think the attacking talent we paraded let us down. apart from musa nobody brought their A game as far as the striking department was concerned. ighalo, KC and moses didn't do enough in my opinion. we can blame rohr for not giving iwobi and simmy enough chances to show what they could do
