Not too sure I get ur insinuation but that aside I am keen on how payment and delivery is done. This is key to me....as a for me itz not just abt pricing but also abt time, original parts. Thk u

Just doing the search for the part without a part number can take between 10 and 15 minutes, if I have to do like 100 such requests in a day that's like 1000 to 1500 minutes that is over 16 hours to 25 hours, so if you can provide me with the part number, I can be done in less than 3 minutes!

Original parts? Yes!

You have a choice place the order from any parts store of your liking, I will give you my US corporate address to use as your address, you use it as your address and provide me the tracking number so I know that's your package, when it arrives my people will do the shipping from the US to Lagos on your behalf, you don't give me a kobo or cent until I clear your goods and tell you its ready for pickup

OR

I place the order and do the shipping but we agree on price beforehand, you pay me a fraction of the cost of the item, only after I inform you the goods have been cleared and are available for pickup, do you balance me.

Option 1 is cheaper you pay only $3.85/lb to Lagos and $15 to abuja up to a maximum of 20 pounds
Option 2 is costlier since I bear much of the risk, you pay a penalty sort of for that

You can pay in naira or dollars

it gets to Nigerian within 7 to 10 days

Send me an email and I will send you all the details.

My company is incorporated both here and in the US so you are dealing not with an individual both an entity known to law in both countries

versus the

Mercedes Benz S-Class W220 2003 - 2005 and the Mercedes Benz S-Class W221 2005 - 2013

The BMW 7 Series from 2003 to 2012 are listed among cars not to consider buying used

What is the experience locally? Does it mirror the position accorded the model here:

Toyota is unreliable? Kidding me? You have some facts?

I still don't know why fellas think a transmission cannot be repaired. They always shout, 'replace it!, buy another!'. If there is no water or chemical contamination, transmissions could be repaired. This technician works on transmissions only, and has rebuilt units from scratch. He knows when to recommend a replacement. He has said, ' don't pay if it does not work', and I am willing to play... grin

I am very interested in the outcome of your project, and if it works, please share the contact of the guy you are working with.

One word of advice, don't ever use RTV silicone adhesive to seal your transmission use anaerobic adhesive or sealant. The former is what local techs like to use but you risk it breaking away and clogging oil channels and consequent transmission failure.

Let me (us) know how it goes, I have been following silently but felt I should put in this word

Do you mean we can interchange Dextron III with Dextron VI or is it Dextron IV

Yes, You can use Dexron VI in place of Dexron III.

Dexron VI was such an improvement that GM skipped IV, V and went straight to VI

You can confirm for yourself in several places online including Wikipedia

This year will make Dexron VI ten years old, from all the discussion on this topic both on and off this thread around about nairaland, I can see why transmissions don't live long in Nigeria

Car Talk / Re: Advice: Toyota Transmission Fluids (modified) by IdaraCHODB(m): 7:05pm On Jan 14, 2015
Please note it is not exactly correct to say that Type IV and Dexron III are interchangeable, because Type IV is a highly friction modified fluid that plain Dexron III is not.

I wonder why on earth one should punish a transmission that was built to run Dexron III or its equivalents ( read that to mean Dexron VI) with Toyota Type IV. I don't think it is wise. Personally i don't recommend it and I would not do it.

If your transmission dipstick reads Type IV then it means you are using an Aisin Warner transmissions which is a bit selective as far as ATF is concerned , so you must stick to Type IV or its equivalents like Mobil 3309 or AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid, but if it says Dexron III, then GM has made it pretty clear and even Toyota cannot contradict the fact that you can and should use use Dexron VI which is a much better fluid than Type IV or even Dexron III.

Please note that Type IV is not synthetic, it is conventional so please shorten the drain intervals if you want the transmission to last long, and if decide to use Dexron III when it specifies Type IV be ready for transmission slipping, and the expense of changing the transmission sooner than later

Quote with modifications: "If you fill one of these Aisin Warner transmissions in your Toyota Sienna with any other ATF than Type IV, you will need a replacement transmission within 5000 to 6000 miles, but this does not apply to a Sienna that specifies Dexron III? I seriously doubt it!"
See my source: www.motor.com/article.asp?article_ID=723

Indeed here is proof that Toyota has been known to specify two types of fluid for the same transmission not just in the Sienna:
www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1217344

What this tells you is that should you ever need to do a transmission transplant take note of what is written on the dipstick so you don't exchange or replace the wrong transmission for your application! And if you do, then change the sort of ATF you use immediately thereafter

The recommended engine oil of that car is 5W30 api sj clearly printed on the engine cover while the recommended ATF is Dextron III also clearly written on the dip stick. I doubt if you would see any 5W30 in filling stations what you will come across is 10W40 or 5W40 there were only 4 filling stations I found this Total, forte oil, MRS and mobil and those engine oil grade are expensive close to 10k.

I bought MRS full synthetic 5W40 API, SJ five litres around August last year and am still using it now with 6xxx km (not miles) already covered and the oil is still same golden colour, I intend to use it for a year or 8xxx which ever comes first it is sold for 6,600 but you can get the mile master @ 6k from konga which is rated at 5W30
my brother inlaw uses the Mobile 0W30 and 5litres of that cost close to 10k all this versions are the Nigerian own not imported.

I think that unless there is evidence of an engine or transmission transplant what is written on the engine oil cover or dip stick should prevail over the manual,

it is easy to replace the manual that came with the vehicle with another that looks similar but might have been made for a different run of the same vehicle

WTF! Are you serious or joking?

Why do you want this OP to use this heavy oil and ultimately crash his engine?
If you don't know somethings, let it slide, yet be patient to observe and learn more.

Op, your best recommended oil is SAE 5W30 SL grade of synthetic blend oil.

For your tranny, toyota recommends you use Genuine Toyota ATF type T-IV atf oil.

In the ATF can check for either this JWS3309 or NWS6500.

DON'T use any other ATF other than that which I mentioned or else, GOBE!

The above comment fails to take cognizance of the fact that Toyota initially made Siennas that required Dexron III before making Siennas that required Toyota Type IV.

Basically if you want to go the Toyota T-IV route, then Mobil 3309 is an equivalent not Dexron III. In the instant case, your vehicle specifies Type IV, so please if you don't wish to replace your transmission in other 5000 to 6000 miles then by all means stick to Type IV. Read more here:www.motor.com/article.asp?article_ID=723

But if your vehicle specified Dexron III not Toyota T-IV, then going Dexron VI seems the most appropriate choice given all the issues discussed above.

Basically nobody knows what is in there its possible they are good but no one is checking the manufacturer if they still meet the spec.

Contributions please.

Thank you so much

A car is a major investment, if the vehicle breakdowns in the middle of nowhere, the expense and inconvenience can be high. You asked a good question, so that your decision will be rational. So I am going to see if I can help you lay the facts and help you come to a conclusion!

When was your vehicle manufactured?

What was the applicable Dexron standard then?

If your vehicle were manufactured today, would the manufacturer uses an outdated/withdrawn Dexron standard (assuming it did not join the bandwagon of creating its own fluid for its own type of car)?

What is the meaning of backward-compatible?

If you needed to replace an ECM would you get the old part (which has the same part number as the failed part) or the updated part (which has an incremented part no)?

Anywhere, this is the most authoritative source I can point to http://www.archivedsites.com/techlink/2009/05/

Just remember that the licenses for Dexron III were withdrawn as far back as 2005 or 2005 and so anything can claim to be Dexron III, there is no check, unlike Dexron VI.

BUT THEN THINGS AREN'T ALWAYS BLACK AND WHITE, WE HAVE GOT GREY SO READ THE FOLLOWING AS WELL!

Car Talk / Re: Price Of New Tyre by IdaraCHODB(m): 7:06pm On Jan 08, 2015
Driving in the opposite lane, I watched in horror as the rear right tire of Toyota Sienna 1999/2000 model exploded on the expressway in Abuja, as a result the driver lost control, the vehicle then swerved to the right and the Volkswagen Golf that was driving alongside crashed into it before going headfirst into the street gutter totaling it and imprisoning the driver and front passenger. Within an instant the Sienna had also somersaulted and was now lying on its roof.

The upturned Sienna had as a consequence of the impact with the other vehicle, spilled some of its occupants onto the road, seriously injured them while tangling some in the wreckage of the car including a women whose flesh tore open from the feet almost to the knee cap.

Interestingly, one guy walked out of the entire accident as if nothing had happened when a few good Samaritans found and used a razorblade to free him from the seatbelt he wore, he just dropped and then walked out of the wreck like he was one of us bystanders/rescuers, if you were not told he was involved in the accident, you would not be able to tell. Also, a little girl also escaped with minor injuries to the head, i strongly suspect it was her mother whose injuries I described earlier.

The rest of the occupants of either vehicle either died or were seriously injured, I witnessed two of the occupants of either vehicle give up the ghost minutes later.

If you ever wondered if spending dearly on tires is worth it, the above story and this link should hit the nail on the head: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/news/auto-blog/how-tires-work-17547347

Tires are one of the most important safety equipment on a car, don't buy cheap and keep checking that they are operating within the recommended parameters.

Seconded, it wrecked my transmission, Oando is a much better buy. maybe the other poster doesn't know because it he did not put the fluid under stress i.e, sustained high speed driving
Car Talk / Re: Plz Help Me On Transmission Issue (updated) by IdaraCHODB(m): 9:37am On Jan 06, 2015
obicentlis:

What oil is your recommendation?

Please reread my post - Oando is still good is you do town runs, office to home, home to office, then your transmission will never overheat and you can follow the maximum ATF change interval. Infact, Oando is still good if you use it on long journeys but are willing to do shorter ATF change intervals

BUT

you may need to switch to either a Dexron III Fully Synthetic ( there is a Korean brand that i have seen around local transmission repair shops) or even better a Dexron VI synthetic ATF such as Valvoline Dexron VI Full Synthetic if you are concerned/paranoid about the effect of heat/friction due to 1. sustained high speed driving and 2. carrying loads heavy than the car/engine/transmission was designed to carry

This link is not about your particular transmission type but it contains truths that may be universally applicable, please take the time to study it and your transmission may live longer than your engine http://forum.probetalk.com/showthread.php?p=1922481354 . Everything is relevant but please pay particular attention to the section Automatic Transmission Failures.

Take note, even print for reference purposes what is written under neglect, abuse, design flaws and normal wear and tear.

In the light of the above, you may wonder who should I listen to, the manufacturer who recommends long change intervals or the local transmission repair shop who recommends short change intervals, my recommendation is the later if you carry heavy loads, race the car, or do long journeys and the former if you do home to office and back, home to place or worship and back, home to market and back

Speaking once again from experience and lots of interactions with those who know better.

Gazzuzz knows what he is taking about, but I was addressing the issue of the ATF turning black only

please can u help me with the price of 4 litre synthetic DEXTRON III atf. Hope the price will be pocket friendly.

My personal recommendation is forget Dexron III, get Dexron VI since it is backward compatible. Your transmission will thank you.

For which vehicle?

I can ship you Valvoline Dexron VI Full Synthetic Automatic Fluid at $4.35/lb to Abuja. Amazon sells it at $43.28 for a pack of 1 Quart x 6 which weighs about 11.7 pounds.

In the alternative you can purchase 1 Quart x 4 at $10.43 x 4 = $40.43 weighing approximately 7.6 pounds, but to me it doesn't make economic sense.

I have sent you an email indicating that you can place the order yourself and ship to my address and only pay shipping fees after I have cleared it at customs, but if I must place the order, I will charge you extra and above the figures above.

You can pick it up at my office when it arrives abuja

OR Toyota Genuine Fluid Dexron III at $7.45 + $7(shipping US only) meaning $29.80 for 4 + $16 shipping (shipping US only) approximately 8 pounds to Nigeria
Car Talk / Re: Plz Help Me On Transmission Issue (updated) by IdaraCHODB(m): 9:08pm On Jan 04, 2015
Dexron III from Oando is a good product.

But then GM withdrew the license, so even if they say its Dexron III, there is no independent/third party proof. Does the company even produce a specifications sheet for that ATF? Am not so sure. I searched and found one for their Dexron II product but not the Dexron III.

Why do I raise the above issue, I have used the product, it is good but don't forget its not a synthetic based ATF fluid but a mineral based which means, you may need to change it more often than your manual states like Sooperrescue likes to recommend, this is based on personal experience, I tried using it and following the 30,000 miles change interval and 1/2way through a 400 mile journey, the fluid started smelling burnt. I drove till I got to my destination and then back, but soon thereafter I lost that transmission.

Since then, I don't trust organic ATF for more than 10,000 miles and i keep refreshing it from time to time by draining 2 litres and topping with another fresh 2 litres after every 3,000 miles.

Finally I switched to synthetic, I use Valvoline Dexron VI Full Synthetic, at least you cannot claim to be a Dexron VI product without passing the tests, and Dexron VI is backward compatible with Dexron III.

So first things first, change your ATF ASAP and reduce the ATF change interval to around 10,000 miles and you might not have to change your transmission anytime soon!

But then if you never drive above 80km/hr to 100km/hr on a sustained basis or carry heavy loads on a sustained basis or only do town runs with the very occasional travel, feel free to extend the above recommended interval. The reason is, when you drive at such speeds or carry such heavy loads because of overdrive, your engine is taking a break, but your transmission and wheels are not, and more work means more heat, more heat means the ATF takes a very serious beating and at some point begins to deteriorate. That's why it turned black which is almost as good as no ATF.

I drive between 30,000 and 40,000 miles a year so I do a lot of testing of fluids and their effects on my vehicles, YMMV.
