EFCC is fighting it's failed war on the pages of newspapers. Those that looted our treasury to the tune of 100's of billions of naira are parading themselves in the corridors of power.
Why doesn't Waziri go after the IBORI's and Odili's of this world.

Those that accuse Ribadu of selective justice and witch-hunting Atiku, i hope you saw the allegation by siemens involving payment made through Atiku's wife.
Tafa Balogun, Mr Sunday Afolabi, Otunba Fasawe and even Mike Adenuga were all Obasanjo's friends.

Fellow Nairalanders, we don't have a free press in Nigeria anymore. The newspapers have either being bought by corrupt ex-governors or their friends who are intent on influencing public opinion in their favour.
However, the average man on the street still appreciates Ribadu. Name any other Nigerian who will be mobbed by admirers in Lagos or any other capital city.
No matter how much Yaradua and his rogue friends try to rubbish Ribadu, the average man on the street is very intelligent and can see through their evil machinations.

Ribadu will defeat any candidate with a landslide in a free and fair country. I know, this can't happen in Nigeria.

Ijaw group names him Man of the Year
Punch Newspaper, Monday 29th December, 2009.
Former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, on Sunday, flew to Lagos to hold talks with a team of lawyers who would handle his brief challenging his dismissal from the Nigeria Police.

The development came just as a group, the Ijaw Monitoring Group named Ribadu as its Man of the Year.

Ribadu, who flew to Lagos Saturday evening on an Arik Airline flight was given a historic welcome by taxi operators at the Domestic Wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport.

Immediately the taxi operators sighted him, they mobilised themselves and swamped at him.

They started showering praises on him for his courage which he demonstrated in the fight against corruption.

They also volunteered to take him to wherever he was going free of charge.

“You have given us hope,” one of them shouted. One day you will become the president of this country,” said another.

When a woman who apparently knew the former EFCC’s boss volunteered to give a ride to him in her car, the taxi operators resisted, saying that they should be allowed to drop Ribadu.

Eventually, they allowed the woman to drive Ribadu away but not until they had said so many unprintable words against those who they said were hell bent to destroy Ribadu.

As at Sunday, one of the lawyers contacted by Ribadu, who spoke with one of our correspondents on the telephone on anonymity, confirmed that Ribadu was in Lagos to hold meeting with his lawyers.

Among the lawyers on the list are Tayo Oyetibo SAN, Mr. Femi Falana, Mr. Charles Musa, and others whose identity could not be ascertained as at press time.

Ribadu had been subjected to series of harassment, he was last week dismissed from the police even while an action he instituted challenging his demotion was pending at a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Also, a group, the Ijaw Monitoring Group, has named Ribadu as its Man of the Year 2008.

It has therefore inducted his photograph on the wall of the Niger Delta Hall of Fame alongside those of over 300 Niger Deltans, making him the first non-Niger Deltan to be so honoured.

In a statement on Sunday by its National Coordinator, Mr. Joseph Evah, the group said Ribadu was honoured based on his efforts aimed at eradicating corruption in the country.

Describing Ribadu as a blessing to his generation, Evah said that the gang up against the ex-EFCC boss was not surprising to the masses.

He said, ”Ribadu was the second African to try to use official position to banish perpetual poverty by combating corruption head on after Lt. Jerry Rawlings of Ghana but while Rawlings succeeded, Ribadu failed because he was not a military ruler with absolute power and today Ghana is ahead of Nigeria in everything except the senseless population we parade as highest in Africa.

“He was the first police officer in the history of the force recognised by the United Nations as the most corrupt institution in Nigeria to emerge stainless and spotless, which has attracted more hatred from within and retired officers.

“He was the first Nigerian to be persecuted like the Biblical John the Baptist but we refused him to be killed like John the Baptist to satisfy the enemies of the masses.

“He was the first public officer to disagree with a sitting president (Obasanjo) that appointed him by indicting a former South-South governor of corruption who was Obasanjo‘s choice for the office of vice-president in 2007 and stop the announcement of the name at the PDP convention.”

Evah said that although the group had had cause to disagree with Ribadu when a former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, was deported from hospital in Dubai to face corruption charges, he remained the hope of the masses.

While that God protect the former EFCC boss, he said that Ribadu‘s recent dismissal from the police further exposed the corrupt element in the system.

Meanwhile, a retired Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, described the trio of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Nasir El-Rufai and Chief Femi Fani-Kayode as victims of power.

Tsav said this on Sunday while reacting to the travails of the former public office holders.

Tsav said, “Ribadu, Fani-Kayode and El-Rufai were deceived by power and thought they were powers unto themselves. They forgot that authority comes from God and forgets a dying king.

The former police boss did not comment on the propriety or otherwise of the methods adopted to humiliate the trio; but expressed hope that those currently occupying public office would learn lessons from their travails.

Executive Director of the Abuja based Civil Society and Legislative Advocacy Centre, Malam Awaual Musa Rafsanjani in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents on Sunday said the fight against corruption in Nigeria was in a coma following Ribadu’s ouster.

He said “The Nigerian government has again taken a wrong step by rewarding Ribadu’s hard work with the sack. With this singular act, this government has sent a clear message that the corrupt will always have their way.”

“It is common knowledge that those who have one case of corruption or the other to answer have boasted that they would deal with Ribadu. They have succeeded for now because the victory of evil over good is only temporal.”

Rafsanjani, however, faulted Ribadu’s decision to remain in the force when it became clear to him that this current administration was not ready to take on corruption head-on.

According to him “We expected Ribadu to have resigned since it was obvious that he is not corrupt and could not work with corrupt people.”

He expressed CISLAC’s commitment to genuine efforts aimed at getting justice for Ribadu.

Don't mind Kenezi. We all see the Taliban pouring acid at schoolgirls, bombing civillian targets in Afghanistan but the Arab crowd were silent to this atrocities. Were was this crowd of protesters were terroritst killed hundreds of innocent civillians in mumbai a few weeks ago.
It seems muslims only become outraged when "infidels" kill their fellow moslems. Otherwise, why haven't we heard of these protests when saddam was killing hundreds of thousands of moslems in Iraq. Moslem terrorists have killied more civillians in Iraq that the occupiers.
Politics / Re: Israel And The Arab World Part 198894488 by idiopathic: 1:00am On Dec 29, 2008
Kenezi, unfortunately, you have failed to address any of the issues  have raised. Where were you when Arabs in Mauritania were cleansing the country of black Africans? Or the uprooting of black africans by Arab-backed Militias?
The point is Moslems are quick to shout "injustice". It is time thay look a themselves on the mirror and stop blaming others for their woes.

A coup is better than rigged elections. At least millitary governments are less espensive to run as they are devoid of very expensive and largely "jobless" legistaltures.
What is the point of corrupt politicians masquerading as democrats. I personally believe that a rigged election is insulting to the populace. At least, the men in uniform are not deceiving us. We know, they are autocrats.

I live in the UK which is very liberal and permissive country. There are over 800 Mosques built in the UK, numerous faith schools, Muslim MP's and Muslim Lords. However, Moslems have continued to feel marginalised and constantly moaning and complaining.

Can anyone even begin to compare the treatment of moslems in western world to how non-moslems are treated in Moslem countries. How many churches can be freely built in Arab countries? They are given Asylum in western countries, but yet, they turn round to bomb these host nations.

During the Kosovo crisis, the west supported the moslems helping them create a muslim Kosovo in a predominantly christian balkan country. How many serbs have been bombing kosovo? We don't see serbs sending suicide bombers into kosovo. Can any block of Muslim countries ever condone the creation of a christain nation in a predominantly islamic region.

India is another case study to highlight my argument. After the partition of India in 1947, you had millions of Hindus living in Pakistan and Muslims living in India. However, look at what has happened to the population of Hindus in Pakistan. They have gradually shrunk in size over the years and now almost negligible. However, take a look at the Muslims in India, they have multiplied and prospered and have served as "Presidents" in India. This is because, India was a more permisive state respecting the rights of Muslim minority. However, the moslems have continued to complain of marginalisation and have been launching attacks in India.

My fellow Nairalanders, the truth is that Islam is an intolerant religion and cannot be pacified. Force is the only language they understand and Israel is doing the right thing to defend itself.
Politics / Re: Israel And The Arab World Part 198894488 by idiopathic: 11:53pm On Dec 28, 2008
If one looks closely, you will see a pattern of intolerance among Muslim nations. If we start from Nigeria, we are all witnesses to how Christians and other minorities are persecuted in northern Nigeria. The killing of southerners and burning of churches at the least provocation. We can still remember how a teacher was killed by her own pupils for throwing the Koran out of a window, how a man was beheaded in prison for desecrating the Koran and the demands in Sudan for beheading a British volunteer teacher for naming a teddy bear Muhammad. We saw how the demostrations and killings while protesting the "Muhammad cartoons" and the killing of a dutch novelist for expressing an opinion.

We should not allow ourselves to be bullied by these Muslim thugs. They always claim to be fair and just, but try living in an Islamic state and you would understand why these claims are hollow.
Take a look at most of the conflicts around the world, and notice a pattern:
1) Yugoslavia: Muslims in Kosovo claiming persecution.
2) Southern Thailand: The Muslim majority south have been beheading a number of Buddhist monks in their fight for independence.
3) Kashmir in India: The islamists have been attacking India claiming they are oppressed.
4) Philippines: Muslim dominated region is currently fighing for independence
5) China: Muslims in border with Pakistan threatened to bomb the Olympics.
6) Russia: The Chechen's, indochetians have all been fighting for independence.
7) Somalia
cool Sudan
It appears Muslims are unable to live with others without feeling persecuted resulting in the always taking up arms against the host states. Do they have a siege mentality or mass paranoia?
Politics / Re: Israel And The Arab World Part 198894488 by idiopathic: 11:37pm On Dec 28, 2008
Does anyone really think that Israel leaving the occupied lands will cease attacks on them. No!
If you remember, a couple of years ago, the palestines were crying for Israel to leave Gaza. Sharon quit Gaza and in the process, forcible evicted numerous Isrealis living in Gaza.
How did Hamas respond to this gesture? They used Gaza as a launching pad to send rockets and missiles to Israel. Some prominent hamas millitants have vowed to continue fighting until they succeed in introducing Shariah into Israel.
Why do muslims cry foul that America is supporting Israel? Afterall, all the Arabs and entire muslim world is supporting Hamas. Shouldn't Israel have a supporter?
Any attempt to wipe out israel would lead to destroying the whole middle east including the muslim holy places of mecca and medina. Fellow muslims, Is that worth it?
Politics / Re: Israel And The Arab World Part 198894488 by idiopathic: 11:27pm On Dec 28, 2008
Why do Arabs/Moslems cry foul whenever Israel responds to Palestine attacks. Where were they when Hamas repeatedly fired rockets to Israel in the past 6 months.
These same Arabs who always claim to extol justice have constantly blocked all UN resolutions aimed at condeming the Arab aggression of black africans at Darfur. The Arabs in Sudan have been killing, maiming and raping black africans in Sudan and cleasing large expanse of land of Africans. What manner of hypocrisy is that?
Those of you who ardently support your muslim Arab brothers should go to North Africa and see how blacks are treated.
Politics / Re: Israel And The Arab World Part 198894488 by idiopathic: 11:21pm On Dec 28, 2008
Hi Nairalanders, It is too easy and simplistic to criticise Israel. However the state of Israel was formed, it is here to stay. We need to look at how a palestine and israeli state can exist together in peace and harmony. Unfortunately, i don't think Hamas are ready for peace as this would render a lot of their fighters idle and jobless.
Hamas claims to be a democracy yet declared Gaza an Islamic state without the feelings of other minorities eg christians, jews etc. They continued to fire rockets into Israel even when the ceasefire was in place.
They enjoy using their people (palestine) as human shield while firing rockets into israel from heavily populated areas hoping that the casualty of attacks by israel would make them appear as victims.

fxmaxony, i am amazed you guys fail to appreciate the enormity of the task Ribadu took on. There are other anti-corruption agencies operating in Nigeria, do you ever hear of them?
What has the ICPC achieved? Have they convicted anyone?
You have to understand that corruption is like a cancerous growth and has tainted every segment of the nigerian society including hospitals, schools, judiciary etc. If you rely solely on the courts, cases will spend decades in the court system. Will that deter stealing?
Waziri despite her hatred for Ribadu admitted that EFCC under Ribadu's stewardship was able to recoup over $5.6 billion for corrupt officials.

Baami, i completely support your stance. But my brother, i think the pro-democracy activists are demoralised after their effort during the Abacha dictatorship was hijacked by these criminals.
Where were the OBJ's, Ibori's, Anenih's of this world when nigerians were paying the ultimate sacrifice fighting Abacha.
The persecution of Ribadu despite being popular and a champion to majority of nigerian masses further shows this so-called democractic government doesn't respect the electorates. They know they can remain in office without our votes. It is not suprising, they treat our concerns with contempt.
Politics / Re: Mallam Ribadu Dismissed From The Police! by idiopathic: 11:09pm On Dec 23, 2008
Thank you eleven. I am really indeed suprised that some nigerians despite what we have all endured on account of the massive corruption can still criticise Mallam Ribadu.
In Nigeria, we all dream of being a developed country over time but are we really ready to make the required sacrifice. I don't think so. We are hoping a messiah will suddenly come and make verthing right without paying our dues.
The enormity of corruption requires nothing short of an overhaul of the system. People like crea8tivity and her fellow criticise of Ribadu for not following due process have not been able to cite anyone who has done ore in the fight of corruption since our independence.
The repeatedly mouth the "rule of law" mantra, i challenge any of them to give an inatance when anyone has successfully been convicted of corruption in a nigerian court.
This is really a very sad day for nigeria. We have been here before, in 1985 when people were celebrating Idiagbon's exodus, accusing him of being too strict. Today, we are still paying the price of embracing IBB.
When will nigerians learn?
Whether Ribadu dey or e no dey, one thing is clear to me - UMYA is a blessing to Nigeria - he will hasten the disintegration of that evil empire as presently constituted.
Politics / Re: Mallam Ribadu Dismissed From The Police! by idiopathic: 8:55pm On Dec 23, 2008
Fellow nairalanders, don't be outraged by crea8tivity's comments.
She keeps advancing different reasons for her hatred for Mallam Ribadu. You guys must understand that the corrupt Oligarch's in nigeria are very smart and extremely ambitious.
They know the power of the media in changing public opinion and have virtually bought over all the newspapers in nigeria. That is why most of the news from the media have been very soft on Yaradua and his corrupt friends.
They are currently doing everything in their power to clamp down on online sites such as elendu reports, sahara reporters amongst others.

So, don't be suprised when their paid agents scour the internet under different usernames, trying very hard to fool us and thus, changing public opinion.
I am sure, they would always be outnumbered by the majority of nigerians who have a conscience and can think and analyse events for themselves.
Keep your comments comming, it doesn't matter, even if you can't match the the frequency of crea8tivity. She is paid per negative comment on Ribadu and other perceived enemies of the cabal and her friends.

zomby, are you suggesting that people should not have the courage to challenge unfair decisions of your employers. The fact the the other 100 demoted officers did not fight their demotion is the same attitude we have in Nigeria of resigning ourselves to our fate in the face of injustice.
That is why our leaders treat us with contempt, embezzle and rig elections because they know we are cowards and spinless.
We can all see what this defeatist attitude has done to Zimbabwe.

Nigerians have forgotten there are other agencies involved in the fight against corruption – Police, ICPC. Compare their achievement to that of Ribadu.
According to Madam Waziri, ECFF under Ribadu returned over 5.6 billion of stolen wealth back to the government coffers. If that doesn’t warrant double promotion, what does?
Were Tafa Balogun and Samuel Afolabi OBJ’s enemies? The corrupt class and their short-sighted and brain washed friends will always find an excuse to criticise Ribadu and trivialise his achievements.
Anyone with an iota of intelligence will know this is a well rehearsed script and they have been out to get Ribadu from the moment he started touching Yaradua’s friends.

I personally, don't know of any country ruled by a black man that is progressing, it is assuming a frightening dimension.

Minister of State for education Hajiya Aishatu Jubril Dukku has owned up that she and her two former colleagues failed woefully in their duty to produce a clear road map for the sector as directed by President Umaru Musa Yar' Adua.

Dukku, who was speaking while welcoming the new minister, Dr. Sam Egwu weekend in Abuja said their inability to give a clear sense of direction on the way forward for the nation's ailing education sector was attributable to faulty schedule of responsibilities among them.

It could be recalled that education ministry got three ministers in 2007, which observers had thought was a determination of the Federal Government to overhaul the system within a short period of time, due to the enormous challenges plaguing the sector.

However, expectations were dashed as the edcuation sector witnessed what many Nigerians had described as the worst period owing to inactivity that spoke volume on the part of the three ministers, who christened themselves the 'three in one.'

Admitting failure, Dukku, who was until now in-charge of basic education said, "I don't know anything about the tertiary. We failed to carry out the President's directive to produce a roadmap for the education sector. We carried on without fulfilling the President's directives. He said we should come up with a policy directive, which we failed to do.”

She charged the senior staff of the ministry to join hands with the new administration to fulfill the mandate, through diligence and dedication to give education what it deserves.

Politics / Ibb Backs Call For Immunity Clause Removal by idiopathic: 8:57am On Dec 22, 2008
Written by Ibrahim Muhammad, Yola
Daily Trust, Monday, 22 December 2008

Former military head of state General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has thrown his weight behind the calls being made for the removal of immu-nity clause, saying the constitu-tional provision which shields the president, vice-president, go-vernors, deputy governors from being prosecuted for any act of corruption while in office has be-come a cover for non-performan-ce, ineptitude and corrupt practi-ces.

Speaking to newsmen in Yola at the weekend, the former mi-litary leader said expunging the immunity clause from the law books of the nation would en-hance the efforts of the various anti-graft agencies to effectively combat corruption.

Babangida, who was on pri-vate visit to Yola, called on the National Assembly to expunge the clause from the constitution, saying the country would not be able to realize its full potential if public officers continued to embezzle public funds.

According to him, “Some steps and measures have to be taken in order to entrench the fight against corruption. I want today to call for the abrogation of the constitutional provision of the immunity clause for Pre-sident, Vice President, Gover-nors and Deputy Governors”.

The former head of the state lamented that “corruption in Nigeria is a major problem. Cor-ruption is endemic in this coun-try. There is absolutely no way this nation can achieve its po-tential unless this challenge is confronted frontally by all”.

Speaking on his ambition come 2011, the former military ruler rhetorically said only God will determine his future. But he however said, “Once the whistle is blown, I will do, depen-ding on what the mood of the people is, I would not let them down. Okay, why don’t I tell you this: if I get the nomination of my party, I will contest”.

“I am trying to put across to you that there is something fun-damentally missing in the way we play politics in this country”, he said.

Babangida then called on Adamawa political elite to sheathe their swords in the interest of pea-ce and overall development of the state. According to him, “the state is lucky to have some one who is concerned about the common man, and not a selfish individual”.

He later paid homage to Lamido of Adamawa Dr Aliyu Mustapha where they held a meeting behind closed doors

Politics / Yar'adua Accuses Lecturers Of Corruption by idiopathic: 6:21am On Dec 21, 2008
By Tunde Odesola
Published: Sunday Punch, 21 Dec 2008

President UmaruYar‘Adua has criticised the scourge of corruption permeating the country‘s education system.
He alleged that some lecturers engaged in illicit affairs with their female students.

Yar‘Adua, who spoke at the 36th convocation ceremony of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Saturday, alleged that some lecturers collect money ranging from N250,000 to N500,000 from students in return for unmerited grades.

Represented by permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Goke Adegoroye, Yar‘Adua reiterated his administration‘s commitment to providing the necessary support to the academic community to enable it to play its statutory roles.

He said decaying facilities in the country‘s higher institutions had become a source of worry to his administration.

The president promised that his administration would soon embark on moves to check the decay.

Maintaining that the country‘s university system required considerable autonomy, the president stressed that government would not shirk its responsibility to education.

The President of Republic of Benin, Dr Boni Yayi, was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in science while the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, was installed the institution’s new chancellor. He also bagged an honorary doctorate award.

Yar‘Adua said he had directed the minister of education to ensure that the NUC and the security agencies fish out the bad eggs in the universities.

He said, ”The Federal Ministry of Education and the National University Commission are daily inundated by reports of various vices being perpetrated by those to whom the nation, not only looks up to for answers to its ills, but have entrusted with the responsibility of moulding the knowlege and character base of our children for the future development of our nation.

”These reports have graduated from the usual sexual harassment and sexual temptation to the bizzare. For example, certain universities recruiting and forwarding the names of hawkers and touts to the National Youth Service Corps for national service, while scores of genuine students who have completed their programme of studies are denied places and have to wait, sometime up to two years after graduation before securing a space.

”Some lecturers supervising students projects demand between N250,000 and over N500,000 from their students before their final year projects and thesis can be accepted. There are reports of swapping of grades and awarding of grades and even whole degrees to students that do not appear in an examination hall.

“Are we being honest to ourselves and to our nation? What character could such group of lecturers impact on our students? When will the certificates and degrees that universities award on the basis of having been found worthy in learning and character begin to live up to the highest level of the content of its intentions?” he asked.

He, therefore, called on all and sundry to rise to the challenge of correcting the ills in the society, adding that it is in the light of this that his government embarked on the seven-point agenda.

The Beninoise President in his remarks advocated regional integration that would lead Africa to accelerated development adding that Nigeria had assisted his country in various field, saying jokingly ”Benin Republic is the 37th State of Nigeria.”

He extolled the virtues of Chief Obefami Awolowo, whom the university was named after, expressing his happiness for being honoured in the university named after the late sage, describing Awo as a worthy son of Africa.
