Atheism, as I perceive it, is the first bustop for youngsters in philosophy, whom basking in their new found freedom from restricted thought, fall prey to the logical abomination of reaching conclusions before conducting research.

The picture it paints is that of a man who says "God exists. How do I know? Faith". And after some time, he says "God doesnt exist. How do I know? Faith!"

In what world does the absence of evidence to prove a thing constitute evidence to prove its absence?

Why can't we be honest with ourselves and admit that our knowledge ends where it does and to know more, we have to resort to that old, slow, but reliable means of human advancement called research? And maintain a widely open mind while at it?

I dont see how a person can be an atheist and a free thinker...The thought process of an atheist is already bent on proving the non-existence of a thing, as opposed to drifting in consonance with the random waves of facts, evidence, and logic, towards an unknown destination.

Atheism is not free thinking. Its just negative faith.

You do realize that Atheism is anti-existence of a creator god. And free thinking is the ability to think without belief system blocking your level of thoughts.I would personally say free thoughts is formed based on personal opinion,logic and reasoning. What is not Free-thinking is thoughts formed based on religion,tradition and culture or political views.

You are right in a way that Atheism is not free thinking. Well, many atheist I have had met on nairaland are still subjected to traditional,authorities and political views,hence not really free thinkers. But an Atheist is more likely to have more free thoughts on general issues.

Regarding religion,free thinkers think there isn't enough evidence to support the existence of a god.Blind faith is a no no because it is subjected to respecting authorities like;parental views,community views on god.

Event scientifically,some people have no proof themselves but are subjected to the scientific books. I personally do not agree with 50% of what science books say. Why? Because I reason with every bit of information most times.

My views on Homosexuality is the same. Is it possible for someone to be gay? If you ask 10 Christians,they will most likely say No,Atheists may give a mixed view,some negative due to Traditional influence or family,while a true free thinker will say yes.

Another question is the rights of women. you will find lots of Atheist basing their decision of women being 2nd class to a man due to Cultural/traditional reasons. Basically means free thinkers ain't that much. But one thing is right,A true christian is no free thinker.

I just took him to his swimming class actually and he did very well. He loves painting and drama. He will be in line to audition for a British kids program ON Sky. I paid for his drama class(which is his preference) to sharpen his acting skills,and he is only 4. I doubt he will remain dependent on me at over 18+ like you did to your parent,and probably still are.

What's the luck in losing your parents at a tender age? Many of us still have our parents, but we still turned atheists, even Alfa..but you think you were lucky losing your parents because you became reformed thereafter?!

Your opinion is always welcomed. Some parents are better off dead to free the kids. The kids are the future and if their minds are polluted with poor upbringing the future is contaminated. We can see that in the Nigerian society today.

The average Nigerian parents think for their kids, hence Nigeria is experiencing a non- productive future generation. Most Nigerian 20+ still live at home with parents. How many under 40s are involved in running the Nigerian government? Can you list 10? Well you see what I mean?

I supported what Alfa said because I can relate with it. You may be lucky to have good parents(which is a bonus). I never lived with one and I have a great home. My son will be independent once he is 18. That's a guarantee

I don't lack love. I love myself first and have love around me. Parental love is not necessary to feel loved.

Prayer is the act of folding one's arms when faced with challenges. It is a poor man's excuse to remain poor. It is the evidence of laziness. It is the evidence of lack of creativity, a proof you don't care about the person in problem/need.

The children are already used to this way of life. It will be much more difficult to cut out bad traits one get from his/her parents because the parents are the first teachers and children are inclined to trust the parents 100%.

I was born into a christian family but was lucky my parents kicked the bucket while I was very young. This made me reform my mind at an early age.

Jesus is a combination of characters. The person"Jesus" did not actually exist.The first written word was that which was put down some 80 years after it was "claimed" his existence. The name Jesus was chosen hundreds of years after by the Council of Nicea

For the sake of having control on people in the future the later life of Mandela combined with Dr Martin Luther King and Gandhi can be combined to make a PERFECT HUMAN to appease the leadership needs of humans.

The Jesus in the bible had conflicting characters. One destroyed the market in the temple and at the same time preached peace and love your neighbors to the point that he said turn the other cheek. The same one who was said to have come to die for the sins of the world also claimed he came with a sword and only for the house of Israel. The list goes on
