I am Isoko (core) both parents. I'm from Isoko South LGA. My town: Igbide. And I thank the originator of this thread for coming up with this. For a minority tribe like us (the Isokos), I initially thought I will not see something like this coming on Nairaland. Wa do.

Now, the annoying thing about the thread is the horde of non-Isokos doing all in their power to rubbish the good intention of the originator of the thread. Nwando, Ifyalways and other Igbotic people should please stay away from here if there isn't anything meaningful they can contribute. The Igbo thread is a huge one loaded with ''meaningful'' contributions from Igbos both at home and in the diaspora. Can we have some peace of mind and a sense of belonging with this one?

Spermdrops:
When you live in places like Nigeria, you can't norture talent. Without simple electricity and plumbing what kind of talent do your expect to develop? undecided Let someone use their "God-given" talent to figure out how to make "pure water" sachets in Nigeria "biodegradeable" for a start. Those dann things defy all means of annihilation. You can't burn them, you can't sink them, you can't bury them, you can't shred them and you sure can't recycle them for they smell like "kerosine" already. Everywhere you go in Nigeria, you find them sticking half way out of the ground. Only the wind and erosion can transport those things from one location to another.

Hmmmm! Talk about talent.

If you want to build on whatever God-given talent you have as children, you will need to move those children to a more suitable environment. Not one that experiences "Enviromental Growth Retardation or Perpetual Failure To Thrive"! As you correctly identified, if the parent cannot indentify his or her talent, do not expect him or her to help norture those of the children. What we have is a case of "generational dullards"! The high rate of spiritual and material poverty cannot allow you to norture kids with talent in places like Nigeria. Especially when you have institutions called "Bukiepoly" loocated in remote jungles in Nigeria and such. Enough to kill any talent I say.

The parents are the product of the environment they live in. So that can only be handed down to the children. All we have are mudkegs of mediocrity as talents with the propensity to think dubiously and negatively.

"EGR or PFTT"
Not totally true tho,some ppl have being able to rise above their enviromental disability and limitations,very few i must add,anyway. embarassed
@Topic,early sex education
saving habits well not totally their fault,the economy has made this almost impossible
Accepting whatever is forced on you,not letting the child reason as an individual.Forcing down opinions/views on the child.

@Topic,Space is needed for every marriage/relationship to grow.There are times i,as a woman wud want to hang out with my galfriends,so wud my man too,no big deal.Haba,is marriage a jail or what?it dont necessarily have to be a nightclub tho but one thing is clear,once in a while . . .a man might want to hang out alone or with friends,it wont change who he is,a cheat is a cheat,if you like oooh keep him under lock and key or mount survellience on him, . wasted efforts and time,methinks.i think people that even fret over what and where there guy goes to or does are simply insecured in the affair undecided If you know your place in every relationship,i mean,if you know where you belong and stand,you wud fear no foe or friend cheesy nothing shakes you cos you are 100% SURE that your man is coming back home to you the same way he left.
@leilah,its not a cultural thingy.it cuts across tribes and races.its just a men thing !

@Topic,part 2 cheesy
Ostrich was the bird that agreed to help tortoise.He told Tortoise that hes going to his house to tell his wife anim to bring and arrange their beddings outside as he,Tortoise is going to jump down from heaven.Relief at last Tortoise thought cheesy
Alas,Ostrich got to mbes house and told anim to bring and arrange in front of their house,every metallic equipment she can lay her hands upon as the hubby,Tortoise is going to thrown down a big animal from heaven.lol.anim went to work,she laid down every thing destructive outside,she even went to borrow from neighbours. . . .knives,mortar,pestle,pots,cooking tripod.etc grin
After sometime,tortoise looked down from heaven and saw his wife anim at work dont ask me how cheesy.things were working out fine,he thot so he got ready for the bing bang jump.pheeeeeeeew he jump down straight on top the knives. sad sad sad he was badly hurt cry he had his shell broken and scatterred all over the place. cry quickly,anim ran to Mr snail.his services are highly needed,to help gum back Tortoise's shell.
Snail refused to come cos he knew Tortoise wud never ever pay him after his services but anim persisted and assured him that he wud be paid so he came with her.It took Snail 4 market days of hardwork to get the shells in one piece again albeit it wasn't smooth any more.Tortoise was so very grateful and so was the wife anim.On the 5th market day,Mr snail was ready to go and was waiting for his money.Tortoise told him to tongue
lmao.
to be contd.
