DeRay98: You are right. i had always known that Education was meant to develop the mind and university should be the place for advance learning but they "kill" that part of us in the Unis. my cousin who studied the course as i in same Uni at a time when they still had some white lecturers said the the white guys mainly wanted to be sure students comprehended the principles and being able to explain it in their own words was acceptable. Hence i never really believed in memorizing my lecture notes. I preferred to study to understand the concept and explain it in my own words, moreso as i was studying health care profession course. The lecturers hate not see the words they are familiar with which they gave you in their note. So, scoring an "A" in any course is tied to your ability to "XEROX" their note back to them. This is what has killed our creative, critical, analytical thinking abilities. I remember in our Secondary school days, If you are in science, for Chemistry you need to read Ababio, Holderness & Lambart etc, Physics; Nelkon, Abbott and later Okeke, to be sure of a good chance of credit in WAEC. I could go on...God Help Nigeria! Well I want to say may God help us, but God has already helped us, he has given us a mind of our own and a brain to think. But what is the essence when dat brain is not functional. When you used outdated notes, must copy and paste because your lecturers want it so. La cram la pour. It will never get better until the system is erased of all forms of backwardness. Dat is why we produce graduate dat can't think. The ability to think and articulate well is what makes one productive. But here it's a different thing altogether. It is well |

DeRay98: Nigerian lecturers are lazy piece of…(Please pick offense for all I care). They’re so lazy that the handouts most of them use to teach their students in 2016 were written in 1956. They do not carry out researches, they do not refresh their knowledge, and most of all, and they are allergic to correction. They hate bright students and prefer to teach dummies. They make sure you do not think outside the box for their words are ‘Yea and Amen’. Dare challenge a lecturer in a Nigerian university and you would keep writing that course till Jesus comes. They want exactly what they said in class word for word and leave no room for new ideas and exploration. My brother you have said it all. I remember when one lecturer asked me to define international relations, after defining it, he said he wasn't satisfied because he wants me to define it in his own words. I was so angry dat day but I had to define it in his own words for peace to regin The biggest problem is they don't want you to think outside the box. |

EternalBeing: Non of the above. Latest much affordable high-end Toyota brands offer me every modern feature that I need in a Car/Jeep, plus class and respect. Instead of forming class by buying Range or Bugatti, I'll rather use the excess money to start businesses that would em ploy the unemployed or help the less privileged; this attracts more reward. Hmmm I so like your comment and am loving you already very intelligent and mature |
Family › Re: How Poverty Is Caused In Marriage by ifyjohnson(f): 9:07am On Jun 30, 2016 |
onegig: ...stop making statements without fact. Poverty induced by making bad decisions based on societal pressures cuts across all nationalities and race. I guess to you the word rat race is a word coined in the SW?
The op has stated the basic fact that cultural and societal pressure is keeping most in poverty and it seems like a cycle. Just check societies with large populations world over and you would discover that they have the most level of poverty. The reason is not far fetched. Kids are huge liabilities and when you have them unplanned and without backup funds and insurance you would be wrecked financially and swim in poverty.
Any sane mind would know that if you have an income of 20k and someone gives you a G wagon that takes 50k to fuel per month, 100k per month to service and other associated unexpected expenses; you would run bankrupt before the end of 30days
The old ways of having lots of kids should be over by now as it does not give you any financial advantage in the society like in the past where they can help you in the farm and thus cut down labour costs and generate more income. Kids are very huge liabilities and if you're not buoyant enough trust me you would transfer that poverty to the next generation.
However, i slightly disagree with the opinion that young people shouldnt be encourage to get hitched. We should infact encourage them to marry but not with these our mindset of getting knocked up immediately and giving births to offspring when you aren't steady on your own. The premise of encouraging them stems from the fact of preventing them from engaging in immoral acts and the understanding that two good heads is better than one.
Wealth is created when you carve a part of your income and invest it into profitable ideals. It is easier for two people to pool resources together and make it a success than for one person to go it alone. A man who's married would definitely cut his cost in terms of feeding as it is more cheaper to cook healthy food at home than to buy unhealthy 1500 food from a retail outlet. He also has more productive time chasing other things instead of being bogged down by daily house chores as this responsibility is "SHARED" with his partner. Same way a lady who is married would not need to pay for yearly house rents, utility bills and other since she shares one with someone and these freed up funds can be used to invest in something and generate more income and thus MAY spun wealth. But the society comes in again and demands elaborate wedidings which infact most times set up the young couple to fail even before they get a chance to starting their lives. Well you have said it all. A lot of things need to be addressed in our society today. In short you have said it all |

Eketem: For one allow him to grow up You seem to be doing all the work for him getting money for him to start business, sending him for prayers etc. He needs to own up and stand on his own two feet. What kind of business is he doing and did he have any training or experience before jumping in? Most times we just " start business" without laying foundations just because we see people suceeding in that business.
The Igbos do years of apprenticeship before opening their own business for a reason.
If his business isn't going well it means he needs to learn how to run it profitably let him humble himself and learn from someone else who has gone far in the relationship.
He read philosophy in reality his chances of employment are limited.
My advice is don't have more kids for now Both of you draw up a five year plan Let him help out more with the kids so you can meet your deadlines and make more money.
A family needs both hands on deck to succeed, he needs to get out of self pity and put his families survival first. This happens when people go into marriage hoping destiny or fate will better their fortunes instead of proper planning Bro you spoke my mind I have observed the way you respond to issues here and I must say I love it, it only shows your level of maturity Keep it up Bro |

Hmmm madam posters above me have said it all but for emphasis I think you should be more worried about the little girl. You said she is now acting like his wife you have observed this things so don't turn a blind eye to it. Mind you she is acting that way because of the attention been given to her by your husband. so take her to another relative in another town but make sure you cater for her needs in any way you can Then talk to your husband I mean serious talk don't nag or scream but be firm in telling him your position about the issue. You are his wife for crying out loud
And be more observant about your little daughters |

ruffDiamond: which right?? Who doesn't know his right? Na only Yoruba u dey talk?MOST TRIBES in Nigeria HATE and DESPISE the Igbo's for that very disgustingly unacceptable loathsome behaviour s!ask an average Hausa man on the Street ,in fact ,ask any tribe u ll get the same answer as mine. all around the world ,RESPECT,next to LOYALTY, isrecognized ,appreciated and rewarded .even one famous Mtn advert says it all: BOW DOWN AND ACHIEVE remember that? Little wonder y'all finding it difficult to produce a President after the respected ZIK it all boiedl down to lack of trust and confidence in the Igbo, a tribe which prides itself and mistakes lack of decorum, being generally disrespectful, haughtiness and uncivilized behaviours to so called bravery and courage and the vain pride they so much love to indulge and delude themselves with ad infinitum as if other are just simpleton, all cos of a very faulty and absolutely wrong orientation and poor upbringing .as for me I CAN NEVER have anything TO DO WITH ANY SUCH PERSON OR PERSONS Bros no vex oo are you angry or something? Stop the hate abeg I don't know what igbos might have done to you but this topic isn't about them but children dat misbehaves Learn to love no matter what and stop being tribalistic Peace!!!! |
Family › Re: 10 Signs That Your Child Is Spoiled by ifyjohnson(f): 9:40am On Nov 28, 2015 |
Ugosample: Keep quite there. I bet you are Yoruba, so let me educate you. I'm an igbo person, and our culture is founded on egalitarian foundations. That is imbibed in his/her head from childhood. So every one, both old and young respect each other, as opposed to Yoruba culture that the elders don't respect the young.
You cannot just shout down an Igbo kid or young adult, just because you think you are older than him, especially when he is on his right, neither can you just push Ihim anyhow. Yoruba on the other hand, promotes such thongs.
It is a culture clash. That is all, and that is why Yoruba people don't understand Ibo people. I so love u brother for this tanx for letting him know that is y we can never understand each other because we don't respect people's culture a wise man once said the reason why the whites are better than us is because they try to understand a particular culture and y things are done in a particular way while the black man ridicules such culture |
Family › Re: 10 Signs That Your Child Is Spoiled by ifyjohnson(f): 9:29am On Nov 28, 2015 |
Op u r entirely correct the problem with most parents is that the make their kids believe that the world is a bed of roses which isn't altogether true. They allow kids do anything they like and get away with anything no form of correction or discipline and when any outsider like the teacher tries to correct such kid the parent will fight such teacher. Now tell me what you as a parent expect a child who is in his or her formative years with his mind at tabular Razer to Make of and pick up from such attitude. Dat is why we have deformed adult With abnormal attitude everywhere
May God help me and my husband to raise our kids well |
