The state may have let this man down. He came from overseas to invest 100 million in agriculture in Edo state. Fulani herdsmen came to his farm at night, uprooted his cassava for their cows, then went ahead and uprooted pineapples too so the cows can enjoy the roots as cows find pineapples too hard to chew, when his staff confronted the herdsmen they were shot at some were wounded, village women were raped. The primary duty of a state is protection of life and property, the high authority and Edo state have failed him, when he complained the state did nothing including the police and infact he ended up receiving death threat .Sorry about your loss sir.

The Northerners are just jealously mad because Igbo's want to leave. Deep down, they are praying they remain.
However, there are some who really want them to leave just to inherit their businesses forgetting that businesses don't just spring up, people make things happen. Let Igbo leave and 10years from now, The remain of Nigeria will become a shadow of its old self.
By the way, with this threat, the North has successfully dented its image. Most foreign investors will keep away from that region.

PoliticsSenate Warns Against Actions, Utterances That Jeopardise Nigeria’s Unity by igbeke(op): 1:05pm On Jun 15, 2017
The Senate on Wednesday urged Nigerians to desist from actions and utterances capable of jeopardising the corporate existence of the country.

The upper chamber also charged its members to intensify their representative role by embarking on sensitisation in their constituencies to highlight harmonious and peaceful co-existence.

This was predicated on `The Need for National Unity and Peaceful Co-existence in Nigeria”, a motion sponsored by 108 senators at plenary.

They said that the greatest challenge facing Nigeria was the threat to national unity, adding that calls for self-determination, ethnic and religious intolerance had enveloped national consciousness.

The lawmakers noted that since independence, national integration had been the priority of government.

According to them, this led to the establishment of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the Federal Character Commission and others intended to achieve national integration.

The lawmakers said that various integration policies and programmes had yielded some desired outcomes, adding however, that there was more to be done as primordial ethnic sentiments and loyalties were still deep-rooted.

They decried the situation where some citizens, rather than work for integration of a nation with a common national identity, were preaching and supporting primordial affiliation for identity and security.

“Recently, there have been clamouring for ethnically-based and regionally-supported threat to one united Nigeria in various parts of the country.

“The amalgamation of the Southern and Northern Protectorates in 1914 was not a mistake, but a design by the Almighty God as a nation of brothers and sisters united in common destiny.

“We commend the spirit of patriotism and nationalism exhibited by Nigerians in support of our journey to nationhood,” they said.

Earlier, Sen. Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna) had stated that since 1960 Nigeria had experienced “`series of convulsion” in its journey to nationhood.

“As we desire to have a single nation, it is very important that politicians from all sides of the divide and from all political zones recommit and rededicate themselves to the unity and collective peace of Nigeria.

“Politicians from the South-East, South-West and South-South must have the courage, conviction and the consistence to insist on one nation.

“Likewise, politicians from the North must have the courage, conviction and that consistence to insist that this is an in-dissolvable union,” he said.

Sani pointed out that peace was the soul of a nation, adding that everything was founded on peace.

He said that politicians from the South-East must unreservedly, unambiguously and unequivocally condemn this separatist agitation that was coming up.

“Politicians from the North must unreservedly and unambiguously condemn anarchists that are trying to set this country ablaze,” he said.

The lawmaker said that it was by taking a definite position and not sitting on the fence that serious issues could be addressed.

“We need what is necessary to further strengthen our unity; agitations, complaints and grievances are genuine national issues. We are to look at them and address them.

“We must look at the possibility of reconstructing our country and coming up with a new master plan that will address the very important challenges that we are facing in the 21st century,” he said.

The Chief Whip, Sen. Olushola Adeyeye, said that the nation was at a point where it was obvious that the leadership and the citizenry had forgotten nothing because they had learnt nothing from our history.

“The history of the world has clearly shown that unity pays. They realise that having tiny, disparate and non-viable economic units cannot be completed in the world.

“We must conduct ourselves in such a way that we can stay united. Unity is an end in itself. It ought to be a means to an end and that means should be the progress of our people.

“We must destroy the myth of the greener grass. Every section of Nigeria thinks that life is better elsewhere.

“The truth is every part of Nigeria is struggling. We have a duty to turn it into paradise.

“We can make it if we walk together and stay united,” Adeyeye said.

Similarly, Sen. Magnus Abe (APC-Rivers) said “we have a union that is not perfect but we can make it better.

“There is no country that becomes a great country merely by circumstance or by chance. Great nations are built by the sacrifice of its citizens.

“Our diversity is our greatest challenge but it is also our greatest strength.

“We must come together and build a strong, virile and prosperous nation,” Abe said.

In his remarks, Deputy President of the Senate, Mr Ike Ekweremadu, who presided at the plenary, said that the patriotism exhibited by the senators was one thing that stood the Senate out.

“We are better off united; we are better off a just and equitable society.

“It is not time to look at ourselves as either black or white. Our beauty lies in the mix of our colours,” he said.

He called for restraint from all quarters to ensure a prosperous, united and egalitarian society.

“We must show leadership as leaders. It is not time to leave the leadership of this country to ad hoc tendencies.

“In doing so, we must address the fears and complaints of our citizens. I believe this is what we have started today,” Ekeremadu said.

Meanwhile, the Senate has urged the Federal Government to as matter of urgency forward the Report of the National Conference to the National assembly for deliberation.

PoliticsSenate Calls For National Conference Report by igbeke(op): 7:15am On Jun 15, 2017
THE Senate, on Wednesday, passed a resolution calling for the submission of the final report of the 2014 national conference, in a bid to address the problems of growing ethnic tension in the country.

Senators arrived at the resolution, following the adoption of an amendment to the prayers of the original motion moved by the Senate Leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan and 105 others.

Lawan’s motion, entitled: “The need for national unity and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria,” was debated by the Senate for more than two hours, after which the resolutions were taken.

The amendment seeking the submission of the confab report was moved by Senator Mao Ohuanbunwa and seconded by Senator Olamilekan Adeola.

Lawan had decried the rising ethnic tension in the country, declaring that the time had come for the chamber to play the role of statesmen to guide the restive youth.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the sitting, Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe, Shehu Sani, Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, Barnabas Gemade, Magnus Abe, Biodun Olujinmi, Binta Garba Marshi, Oluremi Tinubu, Adamu Aliero, Jonah Jang and Chukwuka Utazi, among others, supported the motion with different contributions.

Senator Ohuabunwa, who spoke on the need for restructuring, said the chamber needed to ensure dialogue and the implementation of the 2014 confab report.

Former governor of Kebbi State, Senator Adamu Aliero and former governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah Jang, asked the leadership of the Senate to immediately take steps to request for the report of the 2014 national conference.

The duo said the Senate must commence work on the report immediately.

“In 2014, former President Goodluck Jonathan brought people from every ethnic nationality together in Abuja in what was called the national conference. It was chaired by Justice Legbo Kutigi. The participants came up with beautiful recommendations.

“This is the time to implement those recommendations. The Senate should demand for the outcome of that conference and find a way to implement them. That is the solution to these ethnic agitations. The outcome of the conference should be tabled for discussion,” he said.

His view was supported by Jang, who said the Senate must recognise the confab report immediately.

“I want to align with what Senator Aliero said. I remember that the Seventh Senate said it did not recognise the national conference because they were the true representatives of the people.

“I think this is the time for the report of that conference to be debated. So many useful decisions were reached. We need to debate those recommendations and see how they can address the issues coming up now,” he said.

In his contribution, Senator Magnus Abe said that the country must give ear to agitators before they become silent, adding that his Ogoni area of Rivers State had been clamouring for attention for a long time.

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso also told the chamber that though it was good that the Federal Government had initiated meetings with leaders of the North and the South East, adding, however, that such meetings should not paint a situation as if the matter was between the North and the South East.

“The problem is everywhere. The acting president met with northern leaders on Tuesday. On Wednesday, I am aware that he is meeting with South-East leaders. There are three geopolitical zones in the North. If the acting president met with leaders from the three geopolitical zones in the North, he should also meet with leaders from the three southern geopolitical zones.”

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu however, told the session that the 7th Senate could not do much on the confab report because the former President forwarded it to the Assembly one week before the expiration of the Seventh Senate in 2015.

Ekweremadu clarified: “To be fair, the report was sent to us in the Seventh Assembly by President Jonathan. But it was sent just one week before the end of that Assembly. There was nothing we could have done.

“By this motion, you are saying the President should forward the report again to the National Assembly for deliberations,” Ekweremadu said.

The Deputy Senate President also said that that the senate had spoken with one voice on the motion adding: “This is not the time to look at ourselves as blacks or whites or those right and wrong. I want to call for restraints from all sides so that we can have an egalitarian society.

“This is the time to show leadership. This is not the time to leave the leadership of this country for some people. We must guide this country. Within our laws, we have sufficient laws to guide our conducts. This is the time for the government to come and apply those laws against those making unguarded statements.

“I call on security agents to move in and apply the law no matter who is involved. I want to call on our young people to remain peaceful.

This is the time to stand together for our country. This is the time for us to be united. This is not the time for people to e treated unjustly. This country belongs to all of us.

Following the deliberations, the Senate resolved to “urge all Nigerians to desist from actions and utterances that are capable of jeopardising the corporate existence of our dear nation.”

The chamber also “urged that lawmakers intensify their representative role by embarking on sensitisation campaign in their various constituencies to highlight the importance of harmonious and peaceful co-existence.”

The Senators also “urged the Federal Government to direct the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and other relevant agencies to intensity enlightenment and advocacy of loyalty the nation.”
