Your poll design is wrong. You cannot reliably compare a state like Lagos with a city like Calabar.
You can compare two states as follows:
Lagos v Cross River In your haste to sound smart you came out sounding dumb, lagos is the name of a city as well as a state smarty pants, so yea you can compare lagos city with calabar, |

If the S' East is that rich, why are the easterners AND northerners trooping en mass to the S'west in millions everyday? The S west Nigeria is the now the melting point of the fortune seekers from across West Africa. This dilute as a matter of logic, the existing wealth and social infrastructure there!
How many Yoruba people are in the East as compared to the Easterners in the west, And they never want to go back home!! guy at least talk educated, lagos being the Nations former capital had lots of advantages from the begining and it makes common sense that it would be the most developed city as govt officials back in the day would make sure it was befitting to meet their enjoying tendencies. Not even a mad man would deny that lagos is indeed the economic power house of nigeria and that same mad man would not deny that it is the yorubas as well as the non yorubas, state and federal govt that made lagos what it is today, Naijas sef!!must everything be about which ethnic group is better than the other? |

So, after reading all that I posted on the other thread, what you came away with is that people like me want Nigerians to take up arms as their way of fighting for their DEMOCRATIC right? Dude, you do realize that many do pass through schools but never allow school to pass through them? Lol
MEND claims to fight only for their people. Why in the world would I then conclude that it doesn’t? Or are you now a self-imposed MEND spokesman?
That you somehow connect a love for MEND and belief that MEND is itself fighting a bigger war than it claims it does speaks volumes of your delusion and not mine, sorry! That the FG is not listening is NO REASON why the citizens in a DEMOCRACY should resort to terroristic tactics. What I find unbelievable is that you are here advocating that the country be turned into a huge den of terrorists without even considering what that means to the lives of average people. We have seen the result of these such moves in the past with people turning on themselves in the end rather than on those who they claim to be the problem, and you are here advocating we do it again, only on a larger scale than before? This is not a matter of the rate, if you want to do somethin then you are given a quotation either u like it or lump it as its mandatory . Lagos is already clustered already with houses everywhere and more people tropping into lagos on a daily basis for various reasons. rates are being paid everywhere even in developed countries and they even disguise their such as council tax, which varies from area to area. for a company wanting to build such a mighty development, they should be able to pay the rates becos when they start selling off the houses they will be in million of naira or even rent it out in dollars and pounds. its a housing development and one way or the other the govt must benefit from it as hopefully the proceeds will go back to improving the city of lagos. My dear friend i beg to differ it is a matter on the proportion of tax, I dont think the developers have issues with paying taxes, Everything else you said I agree with except with the mandatory sentence you put there, I think it is in the best interest of Lagos State to sit down with the developers and try to reach a mutual agreeable term, if so, people would be morel likely to pay whatever is due to the govt cos they felt their voice and input was taken into consideration (equity) rather than try to find ways to beat the system and not pay their dues because they feel its not fair |

so fashola is not a thief and the money used to change lagos has to come from somewhere apart from FG allocation budget. developed countires and cities get a majority of their revenue from taxation.

Kobojunkie: I am sorry to burst your bubble there but the MEND issue has nothing to do with SW and North banding against the East, if that is what you are trying to make it here. Even the easterners are divided in so many ways and MEND is not supported by all groups. I know this for a fact as I happen to have family in the area and even they are disgusted by the terrorists. When you say one man’s meat is another man’s poison, do you realize the meaning of that? In this case, you have a group claiming to be freedom fighters, going around depriving poor people of their means of livelihood, and as far as to destroy what many of the same poor have spent most of their lives gathering for their families.
Their communities are likely TERRIFIED of them and that is, in my opinion one of the main reasons why they would never hand them over to the authorities. Even Robin Hood, who supposedly fought on behalf of the poor tried all he could to quiet the snitches in the communities he claimed he was fighting for. Na MEND, a band of mostly uneducated agbero’s in the middle of a jungle zone people go come snitch on without fear of consequence or retaliation? Get real!! Roflmao!!! Well like i said one man'e meat is another man's poison, you are entitled to your opinion about MEND, others especially those in where they operate would see them different, So keep Roflmaoing all day |

Maple: @Onlytruth,
As a Northerner, I believe it would be a total cliche' to drop some lines. You seemed very reluctant to think outside the box as per this debate, despites Kobojunkie's incessant efforts to help. All these saga is just a game of power play, and one has to see it as such if he/she wants to master it. The truth of the matter is, every regional, tribal, and religion entity is a participant in this game, but the Northern Muslims have won more than the other entities, WHY? because they've learned to play their cards very well, Simple.
How well have the Igbos played their cards, and what role did the Igbos played and are still playing in maintaining the status quo, have you asked yourself those questions? The dominance of the North in our country's politics did not happened overnight, the opportunity was offered on a silver plate, aftermaths the incidence of 1966. If that coup had succeeded, there would never have been a balance of power either. South-Easterners would probably be dominating this game today. Although, that 1966 incident remained a stain in the history of our country, its the best thing that had ever happened to the North. Thats the untold truth.
You kept saying that the north wants to impose sharia on the rest of Nigerians, is that supposed to be a joke or what? I'm sure you know thats not true, but its a very shameful and petty excuse used by people who just cant handle the truth and their shortcomings. Northern leaders do not give a hoot about sharia, its implementation would not be to their advantage, if anything, most of them dislike it even more than you do. However, they came up with the sharia label, because thats all they need to fire up the unsuspecting masses. You need to go to the so-called sharia states (I am from one by the way) to see for yourself. The sharia saga was just another political gimmick to rally the people and hold on to power, and guessed what, It worked. Sentiments aside, you got to commend the ingenuity of the leaders from the North in this game, they sure do know how to play their cards very well.
There is no way to say it better than via Nkem Owoh's song called "I go chop your dollar". When you replace "419" in that song with "Nigerian power politics", you'll get the perfect picture. Say what you may, the Yorubas are gaining ground in this game as well, hence they've had some victories too. The game is still on, and many Igbos have realized the futility of blaming the North for all their political problems. Instead of wallowing in perpetual victimhood , they have learned to put themselves and their leaders in the box. Soon, it'll be a different ball game, but folks like you are not helping the Igbo cause.
Our so-called leaders know too well that the average Nigerian is a mugu, they just throw some ethnic/religious tension out there whenever the chips are down, and the average Nigerian would loose all senses and be led to the gallows. Irrespective of which part of the country you come from, your leaders do not give a hoot about you. You seem very bitter about the status quo. Despite the donkey years northerners have been ruling this country, what have we really achieved in terms of developments compared to the other regions? about 70% of Nigerians suffering from abject poverty are Northerners, we lack social amenities et al. Who knows, south-easterners could have suffered the same fate if their leaders had been in power. So my fellow Nigerian, channel your anger somewhere else, cos we are all pawns in this game of power struggle. No northerner would come into power without a South-Easterner and South-Westerner behind him, it just would never happen. Ethnic/religion tension is a means to justify the end (their pockets). u got the part about the Northerners being able to play their cards right, But you cant convince me that there aint no religious zealots up in the north and all religious tensions was due to politics Zamfara governor that introduced sharia initially in nigeria is a bonafide islamist ok, As far as i am concerned the northerners are the least populated parts of nigeria with ijaw, bini, urhobo, itsekiri all outnumbering them, Assuming you are educated we can see that out northern neighbours (chad, niger and even some west african countries like mali which is bigger than nigeria in land) that have the same topography as northern nigeria dont even have more than 16million. so why would a desert be able to hold the 60million people claimed by the north, doesnt just add up, desert cant support such a vast array of humans period, and thats why i believe with their inferior number they've done a good job out playing the south |
