Crime › Policeman Shoots Tanker Driver Over ‘N100 Bribe’ In Kano by igbsam(op): 5:00pm On May 07, 2013
Kano – Two Nigeria policemen may be dismissed from the Force for allegedly shooting a tanker driver for refusing to jack up the N100 bribe he offered them along Wudil Federal High-Way in Kano, northwest Nigeria on Monday.

Witnesses said hundreds of aggrieved tanker drivers blocked the major highway linking Kano to Jigawa, Bauchi, Yobe and Borno states to protest the shooting. The Commissioner of Police who ordered for the immediate arrest and trial of the policemen, a sergeant and an Inspector, said his Command must ensure that they pay for their misdeeds.

“The Police flagged down the Tanker driver who was on his way to Kano and allegedly requested for a bribe; and the Tanker driver obliged and gave them a tip of N100, but the police men insisted that the money was too small. It was at this point that argument ensued and one of the police men pulled a trigger and shot the Tanker driver on the leg,” said an eyewitness.

Spokesman of the Command , ASP Musa Magaji Majia described the incident as worrisome, adding that the Police authorities are footing the hospital bills of the Tanker driver who was shot on the leg, “he is currently in stable condition,” Majia told our Correspondent. “Once we received the signal from the area, we quickly moved in and ensured the arrest of the trigger-happy officer as well as his supervisor, an Inspector on the order of the Commissioner of Police.

“We took the injured driver to the hospital, foot his medical bill and also deployed an officer to watch over his safety while recuperating in his hospital bed. Justice will be done as we are prepared to sacrifice those men if they fail to prove their innocence. They must be tried in line with the established order and regulations,” Majia added.-

Fashion › [18+ PHOTOS] Female Model Goes To Work Completely NAKED As An X-rated Stunt by igbsam(op): 10:20pm On May 05, 2013
What on Earth is this world turning to? I still find it hard to believe the kind of stunt that will make someone go to work completely Naked… and i dont mean wearing a See through dress alone… i mean “completely NAKED”

A gorgeous German model rode public transportation completely naked as part of an X-rated performance art piece cooked up by a Swiss artist.

Morning commuters in Germany got an eyeful of flesh when a stunning model boarded a commuter train without a single stitch of clothing on.

Straphangers in Dusseldorf barely batted an eye when the gorgeous brunette strode aboard the train wearing only a pair of black eyeglasses on Tuesday, Britain’s The Sun reported.

The project, known as “The Script System” by Milo Moire, was designed to “shake up the ordinary,” the artist said.
In place of clothes, the model had words like “bra,” “shirt” and jacket scrawled in marker on her body.

stunt was part of a performance art piece cooked up by Swiss artist Milo Moire.

Milo Moire said the model walking around the train without clothes was meant to make people think outside the box on their commute.

He wrote on his website: “Radical nudity becomes the defence shield against the stereotypes and makes the artist invisble.”

And he went on to say that the timing of the early morning stunt meant ordinary performance art was out of the question.

In place of clothes, the woman had words like “bra” and “shirt” scrawled on her uber-toned body in black marker.

Moire said the T&A art piece was a way of “shaking up the ordinary.”

“Radical nudity becomes the defense shield against the stereotypes and makes the artist invisible,” he wrote on his website.

Nairaland General › How Hacker Stunned Gov Uduaghan, Cloned His Phone To Solicit Favours by igbsam(op): 6:50pm On May 04, 2013
FOR some months, tongues have been wagging in Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, over an allegation that a 400-level medical student hacked into the phone of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, who is also the Visitor to the institution, and sent a text message to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Eric Arubayi, to ensure that he obtains credits in pharmacology and pathology courses, which he failed.

The matter had been a subject of hush-hush discussions in the citadel of learning with the academic community divided on the intriguing plots that seemed to be unfolding daily. Some persons are alleging attempts to cover-up the scandal and had vowed to expose it.

Three-time victim
What is, however, unambiguous from Sunday Vanguard’s investigation is that hackers were beginning to take more than a passing interest in the cell phones of Uduaghan.

It started with his Airtel number, some years ago. When the game was exposed, they went for one of his MTN lines. Never tired, they hacked into his email address and, now, they are back to another of his MTN lines.

In all the cases, the governor’s compromised numbers were used to send text messages. The extent of the damage caused Uduaghan by the hackers, at press time, had not been ascertained by security agents.

Contrived July, 2012, exposed January, 2013
What, however, makes the DELSU case unique is the innovation that was brought into it. The clever plot was contrived in July, 2012, but was not uncovered until January, this year, when the vice chancellor showed the text message to the governor in Asaba. But,nearly three months after the case was reported to the police, the matter was still dragging.

It started on July 24, 2012 when Arubayi received a text message from the number he saved as Uduaghan 1 in his phone. The message read: “My able VC, Chief Tony Anenih called me in respect of one boy that just wrote pathology and pharmacology exam in 400 level medicine, My able Prof, I want you to ensure the boy passes, you know I cannot afford to disappoint Chief Tony Anenih. I am in a meeting. These are the details: CHS/04/05/88406.”

Whoever sent the text message knew the vice chancellor would call the governor to verify the authenticity, so he stated unambigously, “I am in a meeting” and the use of Anenih’s name was for Arubayi to act swiftly, knowing the ranking of the Edo politician in the country and Uduaghan’s closeness to him.

Arubayi made efforts to call the governor , but to no avail. He confirmed to Sunday Vanguard that he initially believed the message was from Uduaghan. In his reply, he said, “HE (meaning His Excellency), we still need d name of d student concerned. I had wanted the details of my discussion with the provost with you sir.”

The quick reply from the other end was: “The name is (name withheld). My able VC, all I want is the boy to pass. Chief Tony Anenih has been calling.” The vice chancellor again stated, “HE, sir, I ‘ve made some contacts on d issue and need to feed u back on the progress made on the matter at your earliest convenience.”

It was clear Arubayi still did not know he was dealing with a fraudster, who replied thus: “Ok, my amiable VC, Enugu State Governor just arrived my office now, so, I will be a little busy, what is the development?”

Arubayi replied: “HE, d request came late. D College of Health Sciences Academic Board with the external examiners in attendance had met and approved d results. Suspect failed d two courses with scores of 48 and 46 in pharmacology and pathology respectively.

“When d results are submitted to me for approval, I will upgrade 48 to 50 with a resit in pathology. I ve an understanding with d provost that d resit will be conducted in two months time and that will be taken care off (sic). He will not repeat any year and will move with all his other classmates that passed to the 500 level. Sir, this is how far we have been able to handle matter.”

Suspicion
The provost , John Ohaju-Obodo, however, smelt a rat about a week after the affair when he received a text message, purportedly from the governor, informing him of his appointment by the government as chairman of an influential committee.

He called Uduaghan two weeks after and, providentially, he answered , but when he inquired about the appointment, the governor told him there was nothing like that. And he quickly alerted the vice chancellor to personallycontact the governor on the hacking affair.

Apparently, the author(s) of the scam thought the provost might raise dust over the examination score and so, the text message to him was another invention to divert his attention, but it backfired.

With the stunned expression on Uduaghan’s face and the way he looked at Arubayi when he read the text message, supposedly from him, for the first time, six months after, January 28, 2013, in Asaba, the vice -chancellor did not need anybody to tell him the message did not emanate from the governor.

Arubayi said, in his statement to the police, “I decided that I will not delete the messages until I have audience with the governor. This opportunity came on Monday, on 28th of January, 2013, at about 11.20 am. When I showed the text messages to the governor, he read through it with shock and surprise and denied that he ever sent such messages.

“He directed that the suspected student should be arrrested and handed over to the police for investigations and prosecution…”

‘I ‘m innocent’
The VC returned to Abraka and summoned the student who flatly denied the hacking. All the same, he was handed over to the police.

The suspect, in his statement to the police, on January 29, said he was taken from Oghara , where he went for a seminar on internal medicine, to Abraka after the provost called him out and directed that the college secretary should take him in the school bus to Abraka.

His words, “I got to the VC’s office and he called my name and I admitted. He said I should come inside. The next thing the VC said was to open his phone and read some text messages stating that he should use his power to pass me in pharmacology and pathology and that the text message is from the governor, which I don’t have idea of.”

It ‘s cyber crime- VC
Vanguard met Arubayi in his office in Abraka on Monday. He admitted receiving the text messages on July 24, 2012 and showed them to Sunday Vanguard. He spoke on how he had been careful not to delete any of the text message since the last nine months.

The vice chancellor said, “The boy knows that the governor uses capital letters when he sends me text messages and that is what he used, he must have studied the pattern and he also used the words, My amiable VC, my able VC like the governor is wont to.”

Arubayi, however, explained that it was the standard regulation in the university, once approved by the relevant authorities, based on the total performance, to round up scores between 45-49 to 50 and so, the scores of the suspect and about five other students, which fell within the bracket in pharmacology, were rounded up to 50.

In the case of pathology, he said it was not possible to round up the scores within the bracket because resit examination had already been fixed and the affected students had to resit for the course.

According to him, “No single person approves results in the university, so it is not a case of the vice chancellor did anything, the scores that were rounded up to 50 for the affected students were approved by the appropriate organs and the one that was not approved, it was also stated clearly that those affected have to go for resit.

“It is a cyber crime, this should be an EFCC issue, we are talking about somebody who hacked into the governor’s phone to commit a criminal act. We have reported the matter to the police and waiting for them to do their job.”

He said the institution, on its part, set up a disciplinary committee to look into the breach of matriculation oath by the student, but, up till Monday when Sunday Vanguard visited, the student had not appeared before the committee the three times meetings were convened. The fourth time was Tuesday, April 30.
Crime › Police Inspector Arrested For Accidental Discharge by igbsam(op): 6:02pm On May 04, 2013
Lagos – The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr Umar Manko, has announced the arrest of a Police Inspector for allegedly killing a man with his official rifle.

Manko made the disclosure in Lagos when he met with the newly-elected officers of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) on Friday.

The police commissioner said the suspect allegedly went for a distress call, but later committed the crime under unprofessional circumstances.

“We are not interested in what led to the distress call. But we are interested in the fact that a life was lost in the incident. The Inspector acted unprofessionally.

“He has spent 28 years in the Force, so he should have been more careful.

“Right now, he has been arrested and transferred to the State CID, Panti for investigation.

“He will be prosecuted for murder,’’ Manko who said he was ready to expose and deal with any police officer found wanting in the discharge of his duties said.

Until his arrest, the police inspector was attached to the Elere Police Division in Lagos State.

Meanwhile, Manko has emphasised the need for a level playing field for the police and journalists reporting crime to interact and exchange views as partners in the fight against crime.

The police commissioner decried speculations in reporting crime, saying journalists on the crime beat should try to cross check their facts before going to press with their stories.

“Let us be objective in our reportage. Let us build on the good relationship we share.

“If I do anything wrong and you publish it, I have no problem with that. But I will not be happy about outright falsehood,’’ he said.

Manko then congratulated the new officers of CRAN, asking them to help ensure a better working relationship.

“As long as I remain here as police commissioner, I will continue to partner with CRAN,’’ he said.

Earlier, the CRAN Chairman, Mr Christopher Oji, had said he and his team were in Manko’s office to introduce the new executive committee members to him.

“We are also here to intimate you with our yearly programmes,’’ he said.(NAN)

Nairaland General › Over 1m Nigerians Live In London – Mayor Of London by igbsam(op): 7:27am On May 04, 2013
Mayor of Brent, London, Micheal Adeyeye, has disclosed that the population of Nigerian immigrants in London has hit over 1 million people.

Meantime, Governor Babtunde Fashola of Lagos and Mayor of London, Mr. Alderman Gifford stressed the need to strengthen bilateral ties between Lagos and London.

The duo who spoke during a courtesy visit by the Mayor at the State House, Alausa, Ikeja, said that the population of Nigerian and United Kingdom immigrants in both cities have showed that the bilateral ties between both countries was age-long.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Vanguard, Adeyeye, one of the three councillors in London, said that “Lagos is like London because it is full of people with diverse ethnic background.

“That is why we all need to work together so that we can all gain effectively from each another. We have a large community of Nigerians in London, and the population of Nigerians living in the city is over 1 million. This was what we got from the high commission.”

He noted that “this was the reason why there was need to foster business relation between the two nations particularly Lagos and London. And all our efforts would be geared towards ensuring that the partnership grows from strength to strength.”

He expressed joy over the ties, saying “I am happy that this is happening between Nigeria and UK. We all know that there is an age long relation between the two countries.”

Fashola, in his speech said that London and Lagos have made tremendous progress in various sectors of their economy, saying,“I believe that with this, we can learn from each other’s success.”

The governor said; “Today, Lagos is now dealing with challenges of becoming a global city state in the sense that there are several opportunities in the state. And it has become an attractive destination for the world.

“And as we move towards improving our economy in Lagos, there is need for us to strengthened our bilateral ties especially with United Kingdom,” he said.

Speaking earlier, Mr. Gifford said “London is a very great city but we realised that London must strengthen its relation with other countries especially Nigeria because there are many Nigerians living in the city. “And this could be further explained by the five commercial banks out of the 250 commercial banks in the city owned by Nigerians,” he said.

According to him, “We have a lot to explore but we believe that to achieve this, it must be done by allowing equal partnership. We believe that the economy that would grow in the next 50 years will be coming from an economy that has great base with a better financial market. If we are going to survive, we must work with these economies. And Lagos is among these economies that have been identified.”

Nairaland General › DELSU Student Hacks Uduaghan’s Phone by igbsam(op): 6:40am On May 01, 2013
WARRI— A 400-level medical student of Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, in Delta State, has been arrested by the police for allegedly hacking into Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s phone.

The student, who failed in pharmacology and pathology course sent a text message, purportedly from the governor, to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Eric Arubayi, requesting him to upgrade his scores.

Vanguard gathered that enraged Govenor Uduaghan asked the vice chancellor to report the matter to the police and ensure the student was arrested when the matter was brought to his knowledge, as he never sent such message.

The affected student in a statement to the police, however, denied the allegation.

Investigation by Vanguard showed that the matter was causing ripples in the university, as the university authorities, apparently responding to the request, upgraded the score of the student in pharmacology.

The poser by concerned stakeholders is: Assuming, but not conceding that the text message emanated from the governor, should the vice chancellor have altered the scores of a student that failed his examination?”

This is, however, not the first time the governor’s phone had been hacked into by fraudsters. They had hacked into his Airtel and MTN phone numbers in the past as well as his email address.

The first text message to the vice chancellor on July 24 reads: “My able VC, Chief Tony Anenih called me in respect of one boy that just wrote pathology and pharmacology exam in 400 level Medicine. My able Prof, I want you to ensure that boy passes, you know I cannot afford to disappoint Chief Tony Anenih. Am in a meeting. These are the details. CHS/04/05/88406.”

Thinking that the text message was actually from the governor, as it came from the number with which he saved the governor’s name, Uduaghan 1 in his phone, Prof Arubayi replied, asking for the student’s name to which the hacker replied: “His name is Imala W. Kelly. My able VC, all I want is the boy to pass. Chief Tony Anenih has been calling.”

DELSU vice chancellor, Prof Arubayi, confirmed to Vanguard in his office, Monday, that he, in fact, received the said text message and contacted the governor after the scores of students who scored between 48-49 in pharmacology was upgraded to 50 based on standing regulation of the university, “but he denied ever sending me such a text message.”

He said the Academic Board of the College of Health Sciences had met and approved the scores in pathology, which the student scored 46, and there was nothing that could be done about it, other than for the affected person to go for a resit, adding: “That is what I advised the governor.”

Prof Arubayi told Vanguard that it was the Provost of the College of Sciences, Dr. John Ohaju-Obodo, that drew his attention about a week after that a text message, purportedly from the governor, appointing him chairman of a juicy government committee was received by him, but when he contacted the governor, he told him it was a scam.

He said he wasted no time when he confirmed the truth from the governor in summoning the student and handing him over to the police for cyber crime.

“I am even surprised that the police have not charged him to court, as far as I am concerned, this is an EFCC case,” he said.

He said the student was currently facing a disciplinary panel for breach of matriculation oath, but lamented that he had not appeared before the panel.

A university source said the student had been suspended, but as at Monday, he was seen attending lectures and had refused to vacate his room despite orders to that effect from the authorities.

Prof Arubayi laughed when told by Vanguard that he was being accused of examination malpractice, saying, “Did the student give me money to change his scores or is he a girl to say that she is my girlfriend, what was done was based on the regulation of the school,”

Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Chukwuemeka Peter Aloamaka and provost, Dr Ohaju –Obodo told Vanguard that no unilateral decision was taken by the vice chancellor, as the appropriate organ looked into the matter before upgrading the scores of five to six students based on the institution’s regulation.
