LordReed:
Can you explain why it shouldn't be taxed
You should ask any of them if they even have unrealized capital gains.
The proposal is to tax unrealized capital gains of people with assets over 100 million.

One of the problems with the current system is that some of these people just borrow money off that unrealized gain. So they are never taxed on it. Someone like me would have to realize that gain (sell the asset), then get taxed if I wanted to use that money.

I don't think a lot of people here understand the depths a lot of wealthy people go to not to pay taxes. My boy was telling me about how his Bank has financial instruments for MD level and above employees to help them pay less taxes. Of of them was "creating losses" to help them offset their taxable income.

Right.
People with brain(something you lack) would not let the elites dictate who they should love and hate.

I'm lost for words for last night's DNC convention. I don't know how to accurately describe it other than that is the true America that was being displayed last night.

There are moments last night that still fills my eyes with water when I think about it. I've never seen an effective convention like this in my life.
I think the conventions as also the campaign are the first display of the competency of the team of those running for President. It takes a lot of skill to execute the convention the way they have. Good stuff.

I know an idiot who supports Trump and lives in Nigeria who has never been to the U.S. like many of us telling me that racism is overblown

He has drank so many right wing kool aid. Many Nigerians who support that orange clown have swallowed right wing propaganda. Useful idiots.
Some of them don't have the slightest clue and can't until they are actually in a place where they are not the majority. And then there are the others who are just filled with self hate who think they are somehow the exceptional black person and so will be exempt from that Racism.

Trump's 4 years in office has the potential to be generationally destructive for Black people because of his Supreme Court picks. If he gets another 4 years, it'll be that much worse.

It is not because Black folks are not qualified it is universities now having the liberty to act discriminatorily against Black folks. This was why affirmative action came into place.
Yup.

So, this stat aligns with what I heard anecdotally from a friend's son while at his graduation about how much tougher even for Top Black students to get into these schools. In past years he would have been early admission to any school he applied. He wasn't this year and even got rejected to a school he was Legacy at. He ultimately got into his 1st choice but it was very surprising the effort that took given how accomplished his stats were, esp. given his dad was a Legacy at that one as well.

I want to see more stats as to who is being accepted and also stats from other schools.
I hope this is a one off but given my friend's son's thoughts, I'm not sure. The problem is the US still isn't in the place that there is an equal playing field for Black Students. That is what Affirmative Action was meant to address.

Clinton: Don't count the lies. Count the I's. He is like one of those tenors opening up before they go out on stage like I did, trying to get his lungs open up by saying "Me, me, me, me." With Kamala Harris as president, every day will begin with "You, you, you, you."

Clinton: Since the end of the cold war in 1989, America has created about 51 million new jobs. I swear, I checked this three times. Even I cannot believe it. What's the score? Democrats 50, Republicans 1.

The Democratic Party is deep.

Anyway I believe the Cochrane study showed masks were largely not helpful because many who wore masks in the west got infected.
Quote the section of the study that says this.
Don't bother, you won't be able to as it doesn't exist.
It's clear that just like Bemeruca, you haven't read nor understood the study.

The study requires both an understanding of nuance in the English language and Reading Comprehension. Something both you and Bemeruca have a hard time with.

The study didn't study whether masks worked against Covid 19. Proper fitted masks are very effective and substantially reduce the risk of Covid exposure.

The study did attempt to study whether promoting masking policies worked to prevent community spread. You see the nuanced difference there. It isn't whether masks worked on the individual level, but whether if wearing masks were promoted on a group or society level, if that would decrease the spread of covid-19 on a community level. And suprise suprise, even if people are told to wear masks but they don't because they are told they are ineffective by idiots on TV or masks are politicized, masking on a group level won't work to stop the spread on a community level. But the study said it still couldn't say that as the studies it looked at had flaws.

'Masks not working' seem to have become a tenet of the Republican Religion so much so that people feel the need to defend it irrationally.

Result from the abstract:

His conclusion
Authors' conclusions: The high risk of bias in the trials, variation in outcome measurement, and relatively low adherence with the interventions during the studies hampers drawing firm conclusions. There were additional RCTs during the pandemic related to physical interventions but a relative paucity given the importance of the question of masking and its relative effectiveness and the concomitant measures of mask adherence which would be highly relevant to the measurement of effectiveness, especially in the elderly and in young children. There is uncertainty about the effects of face masks. The low to moderate certainty of evidence means our confidence in the effect estimate is limited, and that the true effect may be different from the observed estimate of the effect. The pooled results of RCTs did not show a clear reduction in respiratory viral infection with the use of medical/surgical masks. There were no clear differences between the use of medical/surgical masks compared with N95/P2 respirators in healthcare workers when used in routine care to reduce respiratory viral infection
Congrats, you can copy and paste from the abstract and conclusion. Clap for yourself.
But did you read and understand what you copied and pasted? Clearly not, because it contradicts the point you are trying to make.
So, it's clear you still haven't read the study.
You should stop and leave the science/data to people smarter than you.

Lmao, you should read it.
I have read it, well speed read most of it. Have you? Clearly not.
Lol.
Information in the hands of stupid people is a dangerous thing. You're the type of person the advent of the internet was dangerous for.
You're really too stupid to understand what you read so you have to filter it through other people. Other people who have their own agenda.
And in the process you get fooled over and over.

The study was on promoting physical interventions for Covd-19.
So they studied whether promoting stuff like masking or hand washing worked.
Now get that through your thick skull. It wasn't a study on if Masks work to prevent covid, it was a study on if promoting mask wearing is effective in preventing Covid Spread in the 'community'.
And what a shocker. If people aren't wearing masks and not washing hands, especially if people are telling them masks don't work, they won't be very effective in preventing the spread of Covid in the 'community'.

I know it's too complex to understand for someone obviously stupid like you.

Here are 2 studies the authors (and there was more than 1) examined in reaching the conclusion on this study. 2 on Masks, 1 on Hand hygiene.

Anyhow, I'm arguing with a Mor-on who likes to lie. And since I think there's enough info here for any reasonable person who wants it, this has exceed it's value.

2024 update my ass. This is what the author has to say. You are a simpleton

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3HtVZuk5lM
So, we've come full circle.
You are now arguing the plain text of the study and the comments of Cochrane the publishers of the study.
You are arguing that instead of reading the actual study, a clip is more representative of the study?
It's not surprising you haven't posted 1 thing from the Study itself that says Masks don't work.
The good thing about these studies is that everyone can read them and the results of the data.
Again, the study was on interventions to promote mask wearing not on whether masks work against covid. That's a fact.
If you read the study you would know that.

Again, you're an example of the failure of education and critical thinking. You seek out sources and believe things which align with what you want to believe or your biases. Coupled with you not being that bright, means you always get fooled and always post uncorroborated bullshit you find on TikTok.

What is the tally of how many times I've made you the fool. It has to be at least 30 times now.

This you posted is not the study, this is them coming out later to say, we did not mean what we say on our report. It is your fault for quoting us verbatim that mask efficacy is inconclusive.

They were clear, they told us the result of their findings. Coming out later to walk that back will only tell you what is wrong with modern day studies.

If they are not passing the "MESSAGE" for "MODERN AUDIENCE" then they should not pass it.

I am not stupid.
You are the product of a failed education.

June 2024 update: Following engagement with the authors, the decision has been made that changes to the plain language summary and abstract would not impact the scientific integrity of the content and so Cochrane is no longer seeking updates to the plain language summary and abstract of this version of the review. Full details are available in a comment from the Editors of the Cochrane Library on the Cochrane review.
The only people who possibly got confused are people who read the summary and abstract only and not the full study itself. Or idiots like yourself.
So, clearly, you didn't read the full study, nor did the people who told you it was a study on whether masks work.
Keep digging, the stupider you sound.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5FY58I5RQ0?t=86
This is black and white. You pushed a study you didn't read that didn't say what you thought it did.
The study evaluated whether the government interventions to promote mask wearing worked in reducing Covid-19. And even in that the study was inconclusive as they couldn't tell if people actually wore the masks.
It did not study whether masks works. Whether mask work to prevent Covid-19 is a matter of science, fluid dynamics. And there are myriads of studies showing masks largely do filter our Covid-19 particles (n95 masks filter out 98% of Covid-19 particle).
Here's one:
https://sph.umd.edu/news/study-shows-n95-masks-near-perfect-blocking-escape-airborne-covid-19#:~:text=%E2%80%93%20In%20a%20head%2Dto%2D,from%20escaping%20into%20the%20air.

And the study didn't change. The data was the same. But you wouldn't know as you didn't read it and even if you did, as I said you wouldn't understand it.
You are the Avatar for "a little information is a dangerous thing"

Here's a recap:

Bemeruca: Masks don't work. This study says so. <<Posts section from study he didn't read and doesn't understand>>
IjeBos: Masks do work. You don't understand the study you posted. It didn't study whether masks work. <<posts article describing study>>
Bemeruca: I've read it, you don't understand it, but I do. <<posts something that doesn't say what he thinks it does>
IjeBos: Here is a press release from the study publisher saying "Many commentators have claimed that a recently-updated Cochrane Review shows that 'masks don't work', which is an inaccurate and misleading interpretation. ". seemingly talking about you.
Bemeruca: I misinterpreted the findings paragraph of the study I said I read. It's the studies fault that I misinterpreted it. lol.
Also Bemeruca: The study I myself posted was designed to fool people like me. It is a conspiracy to fool dullards who don't really understand what they are reading and post it anyhow. It's fake news.

Would be a bad dialogue if it weren't true.

What a night!

Indeed Joe deserves the gratitude of all Americans. Truly he gave his best, despite his personal loses and grief, he kept up going and fighting for the American people. The irony of his service; He was too young to be a Senator at 29 and then became too old to continue serving as the President. so when it matter most he bowed out with honor and pride. I honestly love the guy.

Special mention to the speech given by Hillary, one of the the pacesetter of this historic moment, she delivered that speech as a true women champion.

AOC served it hot from start to finish and you can't but believe this lady has long way to go.

And Rev. Warnock preached the message as a true messenger of God.

Finally, Jasmine Crockett got me emotional when she narrated her 1st meeting with Kamala and how that brief conversation fired her up... and she asked "the question before us is; will a vindictive vile villain violates voters' vision for a better America or not?
The speeches reminded me of the depth of intellect on the Democratic side.
Esp. Warnocks speech. His speech was filled with a moral clarity.
There was a time great oratary was revered. I hope we get back there.
