The advantage I see in germany ahead of other countries is the free tuition which you cant get else where except you are on full paid scholarship. And id you happen to be a STEM student, getting jobs after graduation wont also be a problem. Also, the pathway to their citizenship seems straighforward and short (5yrs) Oshioegie99: lol what is the essence of going to germany if i have to wait 2 years for visa date.
pls where can i go this January if the total sum of money i have is 11k euros for fees and pof? |

You could as well print out the email correspondence of your sponsor with the landrassamt showing the appointment date etc. And be smart about it. I heard there is a security at the gate that gives candidates issues. So be bold on the print out you have. Ypu would need to convince the security should incase he raises eyebrow laivwire: An update:
I went for the interview today carrying along the sponsor's documents. The VO didn't look at them as it didn't make much difference. At least it showed proof that the application is in process. She asked when the application was submitted and said it's no suprise if it's taking longer than expected.
She said she'd hold on to my file and I scan the soft copy of the declaration of commitment once it's ready. She'd then forward the file for processing.
She added I'd have to come with the original copy when coming for the visa along with German health insurance (I didn't include that in the application as well). |

Great write up from @JOfDMostHigh. I will just put a bit update to what he has stated because the blocking account amount has now changed to almost 12,000 euros. Also the GRE is only to very few institutions. Candidates are advised to go through their individual school requirements for admission. Thanks all. JOfDMostHigh: Putting your number here is unsafe. If you have been going through the pages from one or even in parts you will be able to find your bearing. Then ask questions where you are confused. Start here=
The following steps will help newbies (Thanks to CassieV for the tips)
Most of the schools in Germany are tuition free even for international students, you only get to pay a certain amount as semester fees say between 100-400 euros and most times the semester fee comes with a semester ticket to aid in transportation in your city or town. However, before you're granted a student visa, you have to prove that you can take care of your living expenses with one of the following means ; 1. Block account: The estimated living expenses for a student in a month is 720euros, when you multiply that by 12 months, you get 8640euros. This is the amount you're required to block in an already opened account with either Deutsch bank, Fintiba or Xpatrio. It is called a block account because you will not be able to withdraw everything at once, only 720euros will be released to you every month. 2. Sponsorship letter: If you have a relative living and working legally in Germany, they can get you this letter. They'll have to visit the alien office in their city and will be required to provide some documents and pay a certain fee. The letter will be sent to you when they receive it so that you can go with it for your visa interview. 3. Scholarship: This is usually the best if you have the scholarship, your visa will be granted in under 2 weeks after interview. So try and look for scholarships you can apply to.
Now that you understand the financial situation, let's go into the application process. To search for schools, click on this link https://www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/international-programmes/en/?p=l&q=&fos=0&lang[]=2&fee[]=0&sortBy=1&page=1&display=list filter your search to make it easier, there are English taught courses there. Generally, the very important documents needed to apply to schools in Germany are; 1. Transcript 2. English Proficiency 3. School Certificates (Degree, Waec, etc) However, depending on the school, some other documents needed are as follows. 4. Curriculum Vitae 5. Motivation letter 6. Reference letters 7. GRE test 8. Etcetera.. Visit your prospective school website and find out the documents they need from you. Note: You don't apply with your original documents, you have to make photocopies of them and Certify them in High court or a Notary public. If you stay in Lagos, you can certify at the German Embassy too. You'll have to book appointment for that. For those planning to go for a Bachelors course, you need a 100level transcript from a university to apply for a BSc program in germany. WAEC alone will not be enough and No, OND will not do, you need a HND.
For the application proper, it is always important to go through the website of the schools you want to apply to, you'll get a lot of information form there concerning how to apply. Some schools do only online applications, some requires that you send your application documents to them by post after applying online, some you send your documents as pdf to their email address and then you get the uni assist crew. Like I said earlier, it is important to go visit and read the websites.
When you get your admission letter, open a block account immediately(that is if you don't already have a sponsorship letter) and as soon as you get your account details, send an email to the embassy requesting for a visa interview date. You need these to get an interview date: 1. Admission letter 2. Block account/sponsorship letter/scholarship letter 3. International passport data page(scanned) Then your Full name and Resident address.

In my opinion, if you could seek other options of other countries while patiently waiting for Germany visa date. All I can say about visa and schls is that they are different entity. The university can not interfere with embassy decisions. Currently in Nigeria, there is a long waiting time. I have seen persons on the waiting list for 2yrs while some got date immediately they waited for 12 months. Also check your school well, is it a public university or private? If its private, I will advice you to opt out from them and never sign any contract agreement with them unless your dad is Dangote or Darosha. Public universities are mostly free tuition. Hollakiub009: I got admission in HafenCity University, Hamburg and i had applied for Visa appointment since September last year but still on the waiting list till date. Despite even writing to the school and got an Email from 'em to forward to the embassy to expidite the process, these people still no gree o, abeg is this how they will keep doing till one losses his admission? or there is another way out that i am unaware of, ABEG i need una assistance, please |

dennison4luv: If money is coming into Nigeria from fintiba it will go to central bank direct before your bank will come and get it from them and credit you in naira with official rate. In 2021 when I applied for a refund of my tuition fees from Poland, the money went to central bank and from central bank my bank pick it up from there. But try to see if you will be lucky.. use dom account I always advise people about to fund their block account to use known and traceable or relatives in Germany to fund for them. It’s easier than finding from Nigeria |

Divwake: A friend of mine is asking how best to get her money from FINTIBA, in such a way it can enter an account in Germany. She doesn't want the money to have less value if it enters NIGERIA.
Kindly assist with solution. I am aware that fintiba will refund the same way the account was credited. This is the reason fintiba does not accept block account payment transaction more than 3 times. I hope this helps |

UncleJudax: i think you are way off the mark. the original dispute is whether one could switch from public to private insurance and switch back to public later. And my contribution is YES. Of course, some other factors may or maynot allow this. Yes I am supporting the same. I am only consolidating with scenarios |
Travel › Re: General-german-student-visa-enquiries Part 8 by Ijeshalomo(m): 3:21pm On Aug 17, 2021 |
UncleJudax: i hope you are arguing in good faith. i am now with Knappschaft. There was no exception. Heck, my salary is more than enough to be privately or publicly insured but i chose the latter.
of course there may be situations where one may not be allowed to switch, and i also don't claim to be an expert in this area but to say that one cannot switch back to public after leaving is not true ( and you have also mentioned some factors that may counter that argument) One thing you should know about Germany with my experience is that different contact with diverse information. I was at a bank in another city to open a student account. I was told to go to my city where I registered to get a bank account opened. Behold I went to the next branch and nothing of residence registration stopped my bank account opening. Therefore, meeting a showstopper during your insurance doesn’t mean it’s a standard that you can’t maneuver insurances. Another way you may be getting it wrong is that some schls specifically tell you to go to public insurance to sign a document that you won’t be using public insurance since you are already on private again till you graduate. But so far you get a job that gives long contract, bro the company herself will change that your private to public health insurance |
