BusinessAbdulsamad Rabiu Rejoins Dangote On Bloomberg’s World’s Richest List by Ikaeniyan0(op): 6:07pm On Oct 18, 2023
Abdulsamad Rabiu rejoins Dangote on Bloomberg’s World’s richest list as BUA Cement hits record high

Abdulsamad Rabiu re-joins Bloomberg’s elite list after recent increases in the valuations of his top companies. The Bloomberg Billionaires Index shows that the 63-year-old billionaire currently has assets worth $5.98 billion.

He is the 403rd richest person on the planet.

The Nigerian billionaire, along with his compatriot and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has a fortune of $16.3 billion.

Rabiu is the founder and chairman of BUA Group, a Nigerian conglomerate. Its Lagos-based subsidiary, BUA Cement, is the second-largest cement manufacturer in the country and will have a turnover of N361 billion in 2022. Another listed subsidiary, BUA Foods, has a flour mill biggest paper and flour from Nigeria.

According to the company’s website, the majority of Rabiu’s wealth comes from his shares in BUA Cement, the second-largest cement producer in Nigeria.

According to the 2023 half-year report, he owns about 98% of the company’s shares directly and through three other companies.

BUA Cement hits an all-time high.
Investor confidence in BUA Cement has increased consistently, with the share price increasing by 12.55% over the past week, reaching an all-time high of N105.80 with a year-on-year change of over 107%.

BUA Foods’ second-quarter results showed a 289.61% year-on-year increase in pre-tax profits to reach N61.81 billion. Unlike other companies in the same industry, BUA Foods does not suffer any negative impact from exchange rate fluctuations.

This took pre-tax profit for the half-year to N109.38 billion, compared to N42.702 billion in the same period last year.

BUA Foods’ profit after tax was N95.2 billion by the end of June this year, compared to N39.3 billion as of the same period in 2022, a 142.24% increase.

According to the company’s 2023 half-year report, it also controls 93% of BUA Foods, which owns Nigeria’s largest pasta and flour factory.

Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, over the weekend, donated N2 billion to rebuild the Central Mosque in Zaria town, Kaduna State.

Rabiu was born in 1960 in Kano, a city in northern Nigeria. His late father, Isyaku Rabiu, founded Isyaku Rabiu & Sons, which expanded into manufacturing, finance, and real estate. After studying economics at Capital University in Ohio, he returned to Nigeria at age 24 and oversaw the family business.

He founded BUA Group in 1988, importing food, iron, and steel. The company became a cement and sugar producer through a series of mergers, including the acquisition of the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) in 2009.

Ebonyi Ranks 3RD In The 2023 Fiscal Performance Report

By Wisdom Nwedene, Abakaliki

Ebonyi State came 3rd amongst the 36 States of the Federation in the 2023 State to States Report, Fiscal Performance Ranking, as published by BudgIT Nigeria (www.budgit.org) yesterday, October 17, 2023.

This was made known in a statement made available to IGBERE TV correspondent by Mr. Leo Oketa, Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Francis Nwifuru to Ebonyi State.

According to him, the ranking is done according to various indices which includes, but not limited to;

- ‘States that have comparatively limited dependence on federally distributed revenue for their operations and thus have greater viability if they were to theoretically exist as an independent entity.’

- ‘States that have been able to significantly grow their internally generated revenue year-on-year and are progressively reducing their over-reliance on federal transfers.’

- ‘States that have comparatively more public revenue left to implement the capital expenditure components of their budgets after fulfilling repayment obligations to lenders and their government's operating expenses.’

Mr Oketa further congratulated to Ebonyians and sent super kudos to His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his diligence, accountability and transparency.

He added that there is still more room for improvement and he is certain that the Governor will work hard to get Ebonyi State to 1st position.

We can all agree that this whole Dangote being the richest black person is audio money backed by Nigerian corrupt government.

if truly he is rich as some people claims, how come he is finding it difficult to get loan to finish his refinery that everyone in the world know its a popular demand business. its clear Dangote is only rich through government contracts. without Nigerian government Dangote is nothing.

and for those who think Dangote will sale fuel cheaper to Nigerians must be crazzy if you don't know how Indians manages businesses.

look at his cement business the CEO of Dangote Cement is Arvind Pathak an Indian, even if BUA sales his cement for N1,500 those Indians wont move an inch. meanwhile all minerals are source from Nigeria.

It's no longer a God help Nigeria, It's now Nigerians waking up from sleep to demand for something better.

PoliticsECOWAS Sanctions: Reps Call For Reopening Of Borders With Niger Republic by Ikaeniyan0(op): 7:32am On Oct 18, 2023
The House of Representatives has requested the Federal Government to reopen the country’s borders with Niger Republic.

The Green Parliamentary Assembly notably requested the federal government to unlock the borders of Maigatari, Mai’Aduwa, Kongwalam, and Illela.

The resolution passed at the plenary session on Tuesday after a motion presented by Kano member Aliyu Madaki was adopted.

Recall that after a military coup in the Niger Republic in August of last year, FG shut the country’s borders with that of the neighbouring country.

The border was sealed off following the Economic Community of West African States’ embargo on the nation.

The Nigeria Customs Service asserts that the country’s borders with the Niger Republic were shut due to an ECOWAS directive to restrict cargo movement until further notice, not because war had been declared.

Also, the senate and other stakeholders had urged President Bola Tinubu, chairman of ECOWAS, to adopt diplomatic measures to end the nation’s political turmoil.

They moved the motion, claiming that the border towns of Maigatari in Jigawa, Kongwalam in Katsina, and Illela in Sokoto are “large markets where substantial international trades” occur within Nigerians and residents of neighboring nations like Niger, Mali, Chad, and Cameroon.

The border restriction, according to him, has caused “indescribable sufferings” for the populace and “hostility” between them and neighboring Nigerien citizens.

“The hardships brought on by the shutdown of the border have given cause for smuggling activities, with a rising proportion of the youth in the affected communities getting involved. Some of them have even been persuaded to engage in terrorism and criminal activity, which may worsen the already present insecurity in Nigeria.

“Reopening the borders and tightly controlling the cross-border market will foster peaceful and cordial relations between Nigeria and her close neighbors.

“Stemming the epidemic of smuggling and other trans-border criminality which have harmed the nation’s economy and image will be accomplished by reopening the borders, he stated.

Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House, put the motion to a voice vote and was approved.

Legislators did, however, oppose an amendment to the motion that called for the restoration of some southern border crossings that were shut down under the previous president, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari.

PoliticsProvide Land For Dry Season Farming, FG Tells Govs by Ikaeniyan0(op): 6:13am On Oct 18, 2023
The Federal Government has written to all 36 state governors and the Federal Capital Territory to provide land for dry season farming, as part of measures to tackle food emergencies across the country.

It disclosed this in Abuja on Monday at a briefing to commemorate the 2023 World Food Day, where the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, announced that the dry season farming would begin with priority crops including wheat, rice, maize and cassava.

He said, “On the issue of dry season farming, we have written to all states. We have written to all 36 state governors and the Federal Capital Territory to request if they have available land for dry season farming.

“In fact, I just came back from Jigawa State a few days ago where we inspected some of the lands being prepared for dry season wheat farming, which starts in a month’s time.”

The minister said the initiative would be implemented in several states, adding that “Ogun State has already indicated interest and we will go and visit their farms too. So it is not going to be only in Jigawa, it is going to be replicated in several states.”

Kyari said the theme for this year’s World Food Day – ‘Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind’, had highlighted the core objective of the annual event “and brings to mind the need to heighten public awareness and action to improve our food systems and alleviate hunger.”
