Most of the leaders in the world are more concerned about looting the country’s funds and building empires for themselves. They do not care about the poor neither do they think about their subjects who voted them in. Most of these leaders only have their own interests and that of their families at heart. They enjoy being treated as first class citizens and do not joke with the luxuries their positions offer them. But this is not the case of Jose Alberto ‘Pepe’ Mujica Cordano, the fortieth president of Uruguay. Here are some intriguing facts about him : 1. Jose Alberto ‘Pepe’ Mujica Cordano is a highly respected man in Uruguay. He is said to be the world’s poorest president as he served his country between 2010 and 2015 as the fortieth president of Uruguay. 2. His austerity made people refer to him as the world’s poorest president. He chose to live on a farm despite having access to the presidential mansion. He decided to live in a simple house located in a rural area outside Montevideo. 3. The lifestyle of Mujica is an interesting one as he prefers to live simply despite being paid an amount equivalent to twelve thousand US dollars per month. The intriguing part of this is that about ninety percent of his earning goes to the poor and small-scale entrepreneurs. 4. After giving out ninety percent of his salary, Mujica is left with an amount that is equivalent to an average Uruguay’s earning per month. Despite his act of charity, he does not feel poor and enjoys his life on the farm. 5. It is quite possible for Mujica to embrace this life of solitude due to the time he spent in jail. His past revealed that he was the former leader of some guerilla group called Tupemaros. This group was a violent one that used a Robin Hood-like strategy to fight for the poor. Fourteen years in confinement remolded him and changed his way of life. 6. His political views are unsettling considering the fact that he supports the same-sex marriage, abortion rights and the legalizationof marijuana. While assessing his way of life and the things he does, people feel he does not act like a president but he is no doubt someone the poor relates with. 7. His leadership style is living by example; his choices clearly reflect that. He does not see himself as someone who lacks the basic things of life as he embraces this lifestyle. In addition to living on a farm, his official car is a 1987 Volkswagen Beetle. He has lived like that all his life and is happy with what he has. His perspective about his life is an interesting one. https://www.naij.com/929265-worlds-poorest-president-gives-salary-charity.html Do you believe Nigerian politicians could one day these too? cc lalasticlala, mynd44 |

Kim Jong-un, North Korean leader has reportedly ordered the execution of two government officials. The two North Korean officials were executed using anti-aircraft guns One was executed for falling asleep during a meeting with the leader while the second for challenging Kim Jong-un’s power T he JoongAng Ilbo newspaper reports that former agriculture minister Hwang Min and Ri Yong Jin, a senior official at the education ministry, were executed using anti-aircraft guns. A source suggested that Ri Yong Jin was executed after he ‘dozed off during a meeting presided over by Kim’. ‘ He was arrested on site and intensively questioned by the state security ministry. He was executed after other charges, such as corruption, were found during the probe.’ ‘I understand he was executed because policy proposals he had pushed for were seen as a direct challenge to the Kim Jong-Un leadership ,’ the source added. It is believed they were executed earlier this month, and is the latest in a series of high- level purges under the young leader’s rule. Tthe executions were reportedly carried out at a military academy in the capital, Pyongyang, are part of a “new reign of terror” sparked by “a series of defections by senior officials that has rekindled talk of instability and disunity among the North Korea elite”. Kim took power in 2011 after the death of his father, Kim Jong Il, and his consolidation of power has included purges and executions of top officials, South Korean officials have said. Hyun Yong Chol, a former defence minister, was executed last year for treason, according to the South’s spy agency. North Korean state media described Hwang, one of the officials named, as agriculture minister in 2012, and referred to him as a vice minister of agriculture in 2014. https://www.naij.com/949454-unbelievable-north-korea-leader-executes-official-sleeping-meeting.html cc lalasticlala, mynd44 |

One of the laws of the Roman Catholic church is that the priests, often called Reverend Fathers, must be celibate But a priest in Nigeria, Anthony Ochigbo, was alleged to have raped a 10-year-old girl, whose name is being protected A priest of the Roman Catholic Church, who was arraigned for allegedly raping a 10-year- old girl, has been discharged by the court. The priest of the Church of Assumption in the Asokoro area of Abuja, whose name was given as Anthony Ochigbo, was charged with a count of rape of a 10-year-old girl on August 29, 2016 before a Gudu Upper Area court, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city. While the court discharged him, the Nigerian Pilot said it also struck out the first information report on the case for lack of jurisdiction. The presiding judge in the case, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, explained that the priest was arraigned under section 282 of the penal code and not under the child rights act. He noted that the court has the jurisdiction to try the defendant under the penal code and not under the child rights act as submitted by the prosecutor, James Idachaba. He said, however, that the case was discharged because the court had to consider issues of jurisdiction as they affected the case. “ I, therefore, terminated the FIR and discharged the defendant ”, the judge said while reacting to the application by Idachaba to withdraw the first information report. Idachaba had argued that only the high court has jurisdiction to try cases involving the child rights act which provides appropriate penalties for offenders. He wants the priest to be tried at the FCT High Court, but the defence counsel, Godwin Chukwukere, argued against this. Cases of violence against minors are on the increase in Nigeria with analysts revealing that between 50 and 80 incidents are reported daily. https://www.naij.com/949603-reverend-father-reportedly-rapes-10-year-old-girl-happens.html cc lalasticlala, mynd44 |
