Evangkatsoulis: @ IKON360,
To explain further. In linear motion, a straight shot accelerates until it reaches a velocity where the airdrag equals the forec that causes accelerate and thus move at constant speed before it decelerates. Here the force that causes the acceleration comes from the legs of the shooter. The more powerful the kick the faster the shot is(if other factors remain constant) In circular motion the force(Torque or moment) increases the angular speed(spin) of the ball until it reaches its maximum rev(spin). Again, the force/moment behind this comes from the kick. So given the same ball, no wind, same pose, and same side of the foot, putting more "power" to ball adds way more spin(revolutions) than less. That's why Beckham had more bend to his freekick than messi because he had more momentum during his run-up. I read up on Mihajlovic, his freekick style was with power and swerve. Like Roberto Carlos and with Beckham, I also saw a freekick by Teofilo Cubillas in Peru vs Scotland, his side footed shot didn't have so much power but it had the curve or swerve. Placed shots trade power for accuracy and favour curves. That's why I keep opining that to get a curve, you don't need so much power. Messi's freekicks are more based on the curve and accuracy than Carlos or Beckham's shot, and curve. |

randomperson: This is plain idiocy... You're making conjectures on Messi's reasons for staying in barca and all you can think of is reserved lifestyle?? But it never crossed your mind that loyalty to a club that paid for his treatment could be his reason for staying at that club
If Messi wanted the easy path, he would have gone to man city, and made three times what he's making in Barcelona, win trophies galore while benefiting from d unequalled coverage and sponsorships the EPL enjoys
Messi left his home country at 12 years of age and had d psychological strength to play so well that he graduated into Barca's first team at a very young age
But one self- acclaimed lord on nairaland wants us to believe that Messi always makes d easy choice I agree |

Evangkatsoulis: Dude. The curl is normally determined by the spin of the ball. The more the spin the more the curvature. And higher power mostly increases the spin. That "demonic curve" in 2016 is is actually a different technique. More like a non-deadspin knuckleball. If you noticed the ball curled gently the took a sharp turn just before it got to the keeper. I would say the ball swerved more than it curled. Ronaldo scored a similar in 2007 DUDE!! You are just confusing yourself; curl, curve, swerve are all the same. The spin is like the rotation of the ball on its axis just as planet earth rotates on its axis, however planet earth revolves around the sun. The revolution but with a target between the goal posts is the curl or curve or swerve. To achieve a curve or a swerve or a banana shot you don't need as much power as Roberto Carlos. A curve ball is dependent on how you strike the ball and not how much power behind the strike. Do you play ball? |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by IKON360(m): 10:26am On Dec 10, 2018 |
Evangkatsoulis: No deadspin kills the spin. Dip has a LOT of forward spin(opposite of backspin). You can read about the TOPSPIN. dead spin, dip are all achieved by the knuckle ball way of striking ball that's what I meant. In fact one of the surest ways of striking the ball for freekicks for a variety of ranges is by striking the ball with the knuckles of the foot |

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by IKON360(m): 10:10am On Dec 10, 2018 |
Evangkatsoulis: Nope. The curl of a ball is determined by the amont of lateral spins(rotations) per unit time. A ball that spins more curls more. So a bending ball has a very high number of spins per unit time. And the number of spins is determined by the part of the foot used(toe, outside, or inside foot), the position/slant of the kickers body and mostly the power behind kind. The outside and inside foot generate more spin than the toe. Beckham used the inside foot, he also slant his body, and gave some distance to the ball to gather momentum.
Roberto carlos' banana freekick would not have been possible without the tremendous power. The ball moved at over 200KM/H. curls are not dependent on how much the ball spins, even the wind and the weight of the ball or design are also included. Jabulani of 2010 world cup curved alot and it wasn't because of how you kicked it but the ball was poorly designed. Rivellino's free kicks and Roberto Carlos' free kicks were dependent on power but it doesn't mean you need such power to apply the curve on a ball. The power is to beat the keeper and not to attain a curve. The free kick that won puskas of two years ago had a demonic curve but that doesn't mean the ball spun so much |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by IKON360(m): 9:36am On Dec 10, 2018 |
Evangkatsoulis: No. Beckham actually hit with more power than messi. Don't kid yourself. And again, juninho didn't use one technique! He mastered the curl in brazil and scored several goals with. He only began using the knuckleball and dip in when he got to lyon. And he used simple placement/curls when close to goal. He actually scored more simple freekicks than knuckleballs. He is just famous for his knuckleballs. we can't really measure the power of Beckham or Messi's free kicks, but I'll say sentimentally that Messi hits with more power than Beckham. However without sentiments, curling freekicks don't need power so much. Messi's first freekick goal against Athletico Madrid when Courtois was still there, was from in impossible angle for a leftie but he scored it with a high arching shot. A lot of Beckham's freekick goals weren't dependent on power but the curl. Same with Messi and other curlers. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by IKON360(m): 9:27am On Dec 10, 2018 |
Evangkatsoulis: Again, a dipping freekick is not knuckleball. It is TOPSPIN, so the ball has a lot a spin(forward) causing the ball to dip suddenly. On the other hand, a knuckleball reduces the lateral spin(deadspin/deadball) so little differences in air pressure causes the ball to wobble unpredictably.
you can see the difference is RONALDO's laliga freekick vs Villareal(knuckleball) and Ronaldo's freekick vs Denmark 2011 or vs atletico madrid 2012(dipping technique) you are looking for so much grammar, the dip and the dead spin are struck as knuckle balls. I found out even Pirlo struck knuckle balls too. In essence those two styles are the same knuckle ball, the just takes different flight trajectories but the most important is eliminating the curve and achieveing the slight wobble |

Evangkatsoulis: Says who? He has the most freekicks in serie A history(28), was the main freekick taker for milan even when Ronaldinho was there. The main freekick taker for italy when totti, del piero, balotelli were there, and also the main freekick taker for juventus. WTF are you saying?
So one can't be a pass and freekick specialist like beckham who was a cross and freekick specialist? Messi has scored more freekicks than Pirlo, So Messi in that aspect is better than Pirlo. Even Ronaldo has scored more freekicks than Pirlo. Beckham, Pirlo and Messi are all exceptional passers, but their freekick taking ranking will be Beckham, Messi and Pirlo. |

So you now judge a defender with only 2 laliga starts and 5 appearance in total ? don't misunderstand me or the train of thought we were talking o. I personally like Mina but he was terribly exposed in that match we lost 6 - 5. During the world cup he was much better and more confident. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by IKON360(m): 7:45am On Dec 10, 2018 |
Evangkatsoulis: We are talking about the quality of the freekicks: distance, angle, and all. Pirlo didn't score much freekicks but is hailed as one of greatest specialist of all time. Pirlo was not a free kick specialist, he was a passing specialist. A footballing maestro, freekicks weren't his strong point |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by IKON360(m): 7:29am On Dec 10, 2018 |
Evangkatsoulis: Nah, messi is not even close to beckham. Beckham hits with power with generates more spin and thus a more pronounced curve. Check his goal vs Everton and that vs Greeece in 2001. Also juninho mastered the curl techniques in vasco dagama. He only began to use knuckle ball/dipping freekick in Lyon. Also, one can master different technique. Like Pirlo who used curls before he learn the Knuckle freekick from Juninho. Ronaldo always has the same pose but he utilizes differenct techniques. check his goal vs spain and his first freekick goal portugal or his freekick vs Apoel in 2012, also his goal vs atletico in 2012/13 where he utilized the curl technique. Or his goal vs Denmark in 2011 or his goal vs athletico in 2011/12 where his utilized the dipping technique. Or his reverse curl/bend vs European XI in 2007. wait o, how is Beckham's free kick technique better than Messi's? Beckham, Messi, Neymar and others all hit curve balls with power, Messi with serious power for that matter. Dipping technque is knuckle ball technique na and most Juninho's free kicks were knuckle balls. What I was driving at is that you either master one or the other. The most important thing is clearing the wall, beating the goalkeeper and scoring. Any technique you use that works for is good enough. Juninho used a technique that worked for him, Roberto Carlor, Ronaldinho, C. Ronaldo and others. If a technique works for you keep using. All this talk of using different techniques to prove you are the G O A T is funny |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by IKON360(m): 9:56pm On Dec 09, 2018 |
Evangkatsoulis: Nope. A freekick G.O.A.T should be able to score from difference angles and long distance, with a variety of freekick techniques. Messi isn't even close to beckham in bending/curling freekicks, not to talk of Juninho who was a master at diffrent techniques, angles, and distances! Messi is as good as Beckham if not even better at curving free kicks. Also no player uses different styles to play freekicks, you learn one and master it, whether the knuckle ball technique, curve ball technique, side foot technique or just hit it with enough power technique. Messi, Neymar, Mata, Silva, Ronaldinho and Beckham were users of the curve ball technique and you will know none of them ever used knuckle ball; Ronaldo, Calhanoglu, Pjanic, Juninho and the puskas goal of 2016 were all knuckle ball users. Side foot, Roberto Carlos and the hit_it_with_enough_power crew had people like Alex, Drogba, David Luiz, Ronaldo etc. Rarely do you see people master two very different ways of taking free kicks. . Now range, the farther you are the harder it is to score free kicks, unless you catch the keeper unawares or the ball goes through an unexpected trajectory, Juninho is the craziest free kick taker I've seen but that doesn't mean you should undermine Messi. |

Adiwana: As I said he's not bad because he is been covered a lot by the players I already mentioned. [/b]Barca makes average players look world class[/b] .Just like there was a time Bartra seemed like the perfect defender for Barca.Lenglet loses a lot of duels and is easily bullied off the ball something Umtiti does not do.Check any game Pique has played poorly we have lost or struggled. This is because Lenglet cannot just complement him in defence.Pique has not been the pique of before for some seasons now but it was rarely noticed cause Umtiti has been covering up for his lapses. That guy is our weak link Barca doesn't make average players seem world class, rather average players are terribly shown when in Barcelona, eg Alcacer, Bartra, Song, Mina, Dembele before, and so many others. At Barca the standards are so high, Lenglet is not so bad. |

Adiwana: As I said Rafinha is good but doesn't just fit into our system.i personally do not even know his position. He is been played as RM or RW by Valverde. But I have always known him as a CM.Playing him as a RW means either Messi,Dembele drops out which is not really that possible.A RM means a 4-4-2 system.A flat 3 means he will dislodge either Vidal or Arthur which is not really feasible because honestly he doesn't offer what those 2 offers.I don't mean selling him off because he is injury prone. As I said he doesn't just fit into our system.
If Koulibaly is expensive,we could then move for a de ligt. Think he is also very solid. And honestly we cannot replace Suarez now because only a handful of players that are strikers can really play link up game with Messi.Cant even think of 1 now that really replace Suarez sha Rafinha always tracks back, always. But I get your point of view sha. De Ligt will be good but we also have Yerry Mina and our resident ambulance Vermaleen |

Adiwana: We can offload Rafinha as he doesn't just have that technicalities of Barca players and replace him with Rodri. And no La Masia player can replace him now as the club has lost touch of the youth system since Cruyff left.Rodri is simply the better replacement as he possesses same quality, has the blood of a barca player, can play the flat 3 midfield system valverde plays or can even be that anchor that translate play between defense and attack. If you ever watch that guy play you will see what am talking about and since we do not have a la Masia player ready for that role,he is the perfect replacement. He is the one that plays in Busquets position in Spain now when Busquet doesn't play because Lucho knows he's the one to replace him
We can sell off Lenglet and drop big bank on Koulibaly.Hes very reliable, rarely makes mistake and is also a defender that plays out of the back.Lenglet makes a lot of mistakes and easily bullied off the ball.Almost cost us a goal last week.Pique,Busquet and Alba covers him well that's why it feels like his good.Pique is getting old and needs replacement Rafinha has some advantages but he is too injury prone, but Barcelona is "more than a club" so I don't think we will just sell him. Our 1st centre back pairing this season was supposed to be Pique and Umtiti unfortunately red cards and injuries are against Umtiti. Lenglet isn't as bad as you make him look, Koulibaly is too costly, our wage bill is already too high we need young players. Look at Laporte and Stones at Man city, they used to be error prone boys but they are among the best defensive partnerships in England, Lenglet will improve. Like mr Ayo says what we need is a Suarez replacement; a young, cheap but good centre back and cover for Jordi Alba. |

Adiwana: Great all round performance by the boys.Have to admit that Vidal has been a great signing.Dude is giving us that 2015 performance he gave juventus. Was a beats with his work rate and covered Semedo a lot today.Semedo was Fantastic.Dribbled, made tackles and was offensively and defensively solid.Still don't see what Lenglet plays and getting Koulibaly will really complement Pique or getting a Koulibaly Umtiti paring will be fantastic. We need to buy Rodri of Athletico Madrid and start preparing him to replace Busquet. That guy is so good and plays Busquet kind of football with added quality of him being good in the air and can score goals or we can play him in Busquet position as an anchor. He really interprets games very well, adapts to games and can provide what Busquet has given us since age is still on his side.Suarez is getting old but still has that killer instincts of a deadly striker.Dembele is coming up and Messi...well he is Messi
Meanwhile Valverde needs to learn about rotation.Rakitic had a pretty average game by his standards and Denis suarez couldve been introduced earlier on to boost his confidence and give him game time.Suarez should've been taken off at 60 minutes after he didn't play very well in the 2nd half at least coming off his injury and menuir or Malcom given game time to boost their confidence.Valverde is a very stubborn coach we have the highest wage bill in football now, if we sign Rodri it will just be more financial stress, we need our young players to step up and improve and maybe Busquets could be replaced by a La Masia graduate. Did you say Koulibaly?! Any team signing him is breaking Liverpool and Virgil's record. Pique is good but slow and tends to lose concentration, but very few defenders have his on the ball confidence and passing range. Umtiti is injured so stop dreaming. |
