Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Vice Presidential Candidate for the 2019 elections, Mr. Peter Obi is not on Twitter, his Special Adviser, Valentine Obienyem, said yesterday. He was reacting to a statement published in some newspapers purportedly extracted from Obi’s supposed Twitter handle which the impostor, used the term “lifeless” in relation to the present administration.

“It was just brought to our notice about a certain twitter account purportedly handled by former Governor of Anambra State and PDP Vice Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi,” Obienyem said.

He advised the general public to “disregard any Twitter or Facebook account bearing the name of Mr. Peter Obi as he is not on any social media platform at the moment.”

Obienyem disclosed that fear of misrepresentation and mischief were among the reasons why Mr. Obi was yet to join any social media platform.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, yesterday, described as false and baseless, report making the rounds that he misrepresented facts by claiming he graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN.

In a statement in Abuja, Director of Press in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Idang Alibi, said at no time did Kachikwu claimed that he graduated with a First Class from the UNN, while he clarified that the minister graduated from the school with a ‘Second Class Honours (Upper Division) degree’ from the Faculty of Law of the institution in 1978, and also emerged the best student. Alibi further stated that the ministry observed that Kachikwu’s Wikipedia page had been tampered with recently, by unknown persons and might have been re-edited for sinister purposes. He said, “The assertions in the publication are wrong and baseless and a careful check with the Ministry of Petroleum Resources would have cleared this misrepresentation. By every measurement index, The Honorable Minister has performed outstandingly in his school work and has records to show for it.”

Reno Omokri has revealed the most significant thing Buhari has done for the Igbo.

According to him, it was the Operation Python Dance being carried out by the Nigerian army in the South East region.
Omokri, who worked in the immediate past administration as ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s aide, said Buhari only sees Igbo as slaves and insults them.
In a tweet on Wednesday night, Omokri noted that the campaign gimmick of Buhari’s Igbo driver and cook was built on lies.

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday ordered All Progressives Congress (APC) to conduct fresh elections for the office of National Organising Secretary (NOS) within 30 days.

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba gave the order in a judgment on a suit filed by Sen. Osita Izunaso, the plaintiff and a contestant for the office of NOS in the recent APC elective convention.

Izunaso had asked the court to determine whether the election into the office of National Organising Secretary of APC was marred by violence leading to the disenfranchisement of delegates from some states.

He further wanted the court to ascertain whether as a result of the disenfranchisement of some delegates, APC was right in declaring Mr Emma Ibediro winner of the election since it was inconclusive.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC and Ibediro were named as defendants in the matter.
Izunaso told the court that some thugs loyal to Ibediro, numbering up to 100, disrupted the election into the office.

He said that they broke the ballot box making it impossible for votes of delegates from Jigawa, Adamawa, Anambra, Abia and Imo to be counted thereby rendering the election inconclusive.

He claimed that if the votes of those delegates were counted, they would have bridged the 290 vote margin which Ibediro defeated him with.

According to Izunaso, APC erred by going ahead to announce Ibediro as winner of the election in spite of the violence, thuggery and irregularities recorded.

The court agreed that exhibits before it proved that the election was marred by violence and thuggery, irregularities and non-compliance with the provisions of the constitution.

It further agreed that the election did not follow the Electoral Act and the guidelines made by the party for the convention.
The court further noted that the defendants had not presented an effective defence to the claims made by the plaintiff and as such it was bound by the evidence before it.

On the allegations that the thugs acted on the authority of Ibediro, Dimgba said it was not clear on whose authority the thugs acted but that what was clear was that their actions disrupted the election.

The court also said that INEC failed in its duty as an election monitor, adding that its dereliction of duty was evident in its monitoring report.

“In the report, INEC said that the elections were conducted in line with guidelines of the 2018 APC elective convention and so it failed in its monitoring function with respect to election into the office of the NOS”.

He therefore ordered that APC should within 30 days, pursuant to the plaintiffs’ alternative reliefs, conduct a fresh election for the five states that were disenfranchised.

He also ordered INEC to monitor the repeat election as the body empowered to monitor the smooth conduct of elections in the country.

According to him, the duty of officers of the commission as election monitors is not to entertain themselves but to ensure that the elections comply with provisions of the law.

Izunaso had asked the court to declare him winner of the post of NOS but the court was of the view that while his complaints were well founded, it was better to order fresh elections in the affected states.

Efe Okedi, the wife of late Reggae singer, Ras Kimono has died.
According to family source, Efe who reportedly died in the early hours of Sunday was said to have attended a family function on Saturday.
It was reported that she started complaining of ill health and was rushed to the hospital.
She reportedly died on the way to get medical attention
Okedi was also Kimono’s manager and a member of his band while he was alive.
Her death comes three months after the ‘Rhumba Stylee’ singer died on June 10 in a Lagos hospital.
Okedi was the third wife of the music legend.

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State Tuesday urged the people not to leave a man with quality education who is well tested to vote for “a dullard as governor”.
Aregbesola said his party, the All Progressives Congress, is “ordained to deliver the state from under development.”
The governor spoke during a rally in Ikire to mobilise support for APC candidate, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.
Ikire is the hometown of the APC running mate, Benedict Alabi.
It is the headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area.
Oyetola thanked the huge crowd for their patience and promised to provide quality leadership if elected in the September 22 election.
Aregbesola said: “Oyetola attended good schools from elementary to the university.
“He has proved himself to be a role model to the youths.
“He is hardworking, experienced and competent.
“He is a candidate to trust.
“You must not allow someone that students cannot be proud of, who the students cannot aspire to be like educationally to rule the state.
“Academically and professionally, Oyetola has made his mark.
“So, Osun cannot afford to have a dullard or a desperado as governor.”
Aregbesola added that the people should not allow “desperate political parties” to reverse the tempo of development of the state.

The Kano State Police command has arrested an administrator and members of a WhatsApp group for allegedly circulating fake news and an image of a married woman whom they claimed was trafficking in children in the city.
It was reported that the spokesperson of the Police in the state, Superintendent of Police Magaji Maaji said the suspects were arrested and paraded after the victim of the circulated image lodged a formal complaint to the police command. “We received a complaint from a married woman and a civil servant, Mrs Bushirat Madaki, that her picture is being shared on WhatsApp group with the intent to malign and incite the public against her. “Upon receiving the complaint, the commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Yusuf ordered an immediate investigation by a special team who were able to trace and arrest three married suspects, a man and two women for circulating the fake and offensive information. “When confronted over the petition against them, the suspects admitted that the image and material on the woman were shared and forwarded in their group.

“They also admitted that they didn’t know the woman in person and have never had interaction with her before distributing the image and the story. They, therefore, sought forgiveness. “For now, the police command has granted the suspects bail because the offence is bailable while further investigation is ongoing. The police command is also currently providing security cover for the innocent woman for fear of mob attacks because her image and the false report on her have gone viral,” Magaji said.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari is healthier than 80 percent of Nigerians.
He also said that contrary to the believe that Buhari was too old for leadership, he was actually at the best age to offer mature leadership.
Ngige, who spoke with journalists in Awka, Anambra State said older people make better leaders.
He added that when Malaysia was in trouble politically and economically, it had to beckon on a 93 year-old , Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad to lead it as prime minister.
On fears for the health of the president, he said, “That man (Buhari) you see there is healthier than 80 percent of Nigerians.
“I’m a medical doctor, I can tell you authoritatively that he is healthier than most people who see his health as an issue.
“He sits for over eight hours during our executive meetings. While some of us would be going for tea break to stretch our legs, Mr President would sit on his seat continuously, drinking only water.
“I can tell you authoritatively as a medical doctor of over three decades standing that Mr President is physically and mentally healthy. He is healthier than eighty percent of Nigerians.”
Ngige said Nigerians should count themselves blessed to have such personality as their leader, saying that age and experience were two indices the president had, that could not be found in those who were eyeing the presidential seat in the 2019 general elections.
Speaking on the seeming marginalisation of the Igbo by the Buhari APC government, he said Ndigbo were the architect of their doom.
He asked the Igbo to shun primordial sentiments and expand their political horizons by thinking positively and reaching out.
“There’s nothing that is being shared by the Buhari government that is not equitably done. Buhari has five flagship projects; Lagos-Ibadan to Ilorin Mambila Power Plants; Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway; Second Niger Bridge and East West roads.
“You can see how it was shared. So, how are you(Igbo) left out, why are you crying marginalization, why are you crying wolf when there is none and it is this mentality that I’m telling you people that you have to come out from.
“So, all I’m saying in effect is that you(Igbo) must do political engineering; that’s the Igbos of the South East and the step to take forward is to support a Buhari presidency for 2019/2023 and vote for it with all their strengths.
“By so doing, they will not be left out in the power sharing that will come thereafter like was done at this period.”

The Nigerian Police has given a new date to former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, to honour its invitation.
This is following the former Minister’s request for extension of time.
The police have now directed Fani-Kayode to report for questioning on September 4, 2018 in respect of a petition against him.
The Force in a letter dated August 23, 2018 and signed by CP Habu Sani of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit, conceded to the two demands of Fani-Kayode’s lawyers by agreeing on a new date.
It also said that the invitation to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chieftain was in respect of criminal complaints by a law firm, Apex Solicitors.
The letter read, “I refer to your letter No KACCL/OR/372/18 dated 27th August, 2018 wherein you requested for rescheduling of appointment in respect of the above subject.
“Graciously the interview is now rescheduled for Tuesday the 4th day of September, 2018 by 1200hrs.
“You are however to note that, the invitation is in respect of criminal complaints lodged by Apex Solicitors (Legal Practitioners and Consultants) and your cooperation in this regard is expected, please.”
The police had in a letter titled, “Conspiracy, Criminal Defamation, Inciting Publication, Injurious Falsehood and Conduct Likely to Cause a Breach of the Peace,” asked the former Minister of Aviation to appear for an interview on Tuesday .
But Fani-Kayode’s lawyer, Kayode Ajulo and Co., had responded that the invitation letter was “too vague and ambiguous” and that he could only honour the invitation by September 4 or September 5.

An Osun State High Court has dismissed a suit filed against the candidacy of Senator Ademola Adeleke following withdrawal of the case by the plaintiffs.
The plaintiffs, Mr Oyetunji Suredi and Mr Olagboye Adedamola, had earlier approached the court seeking the nullification of candidature of Senator Adeleke.
The plaintiffs had also urged the court to declare the runner up in the PDP primary, Akin Ogunbiyi as the candidate of the party.
In his ruling, Justice David Oladimeji dismissed the case and awarded N50,000 awarded against the plaintiffs.
Counsel to Senator Adeleke, Chief Nathaniel Oke (SAN) commended the judgement.
