Politics / "President Buhari And Sambo Dasuki Are Enemies" - Ex-NSA's Lawyer Reveals by IlajeGal1: 6:53am On Feb 06, 2016
Former National Security Adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki(retd.) is one of 55 people the Federal Government claims stole more than $6 billion between 2006 and 2013. He is under investigation and has remained in custody as he is facing 3 trials in connection with looting billions of naira meant for purchase of arms for the Nigerian soldiers fighting Boko Haram insurgents. Though granted bail in December 2015, Dasuki has remained in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Defence lawyer Joseph Daudu told AFP that Dasuki is being denied the right to a fair trial and that all 3 cases against him should be dismissed. "There's really no way he can get a fair trial in the circumstances," Daudu said to AFP. Daudu could however not "confirm or deny" the rumour that Dasuki reportedly arrested Muhammadu Buhari at gunpoint when he(Buhari) was overthrown in a 1985 coup while serving as head of military government. The defence lawyer further told AFP that there is "no love lost" between his client and Buhari. On the trial, the defence lawyer vowed if necessary, the matter will progress to the Supreme Court.

Politics / Governor Aminu Tambuwal & New Wife Maryam's Love Story by IlajeGal1: 12:18am On Feb 06, 2016
By JUMI RHODES

When the news hit the blogosphere that Sokoto State governor, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal had married a 2nd wife, it immediately went viral. As speaker and governor, Tambuwal's 'official' wife as at the time of this report is Hajiya Mariya(nee Wali). Hajiya Mariya is one of the Wali sisters. She is the younger sister of the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the 2015 election, Senator Abdallah Wali, first Senate Leader of the Fourth Republic.

There are however indications that the new wife Maryam Mairo Mustapha may be positioned as the First Lady of Sokoto State. For those who have been the Governor and Maryam's mutual friends for many years, it may not have come as a surprise to them. Governor Aminu Tambuwal taught his new wife Maryam at Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Kazaure, Jigawa State. They lost contact, and met again during Buhari's campaign in 2014/2015. The couple's wedding rites have kicked off with the fatiha, while an official announcement is expected to be made on their solemnization.

FEATURE-Rescued from Boko Haram, one girl hankers for life with militant husband

By ADAOBI TRICIA NWAUBANI for Thomas Reuters Foundation

ABUJA, Feb 5 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Almost a year after she was rescued from Boko Haram captivity by the Nigerian army, 16-year-old Zara John is still in love with one of the Islamic militants who abducted her.

She was delighted to discover that she was pregnant with his child following a urine and blood test carried out by a doctor in the refugee camp to which she was taken after her rescue.

"I wanted to give birth to my child so that I can have someone to replace his father since I cannot reconnect with him again," said Zara, one of hundreds of girls kidnapped by Boko Haram militants during a seven-year insurgency in northeast Nigeria.

But any decision over the baby was taken out of her hands.

Her father drowned during flooding in 2010 so her uncles intervened. Some were adamant they did not want a Boko Haram offspring in their family and insisted on an abortion. Others felt the child should not be blamed for its father's crimes.

In the end, the majority carried the vote and Zara was allowed to keep her child, a son she named Usman who is now about seven months old.

"Everybody in the family has embraced the child," Zara told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in a telephone interview, asking that her location remain undisclosed. "My uncle just bought him tins of Cerelac (instant cereal) and milk."

Zara was aged 14 when Boko Haram militants fighting to establish an Islamist state raided her village of Izge, in northeast Nigeria, in February 2014.

They razed homes in the village, slaughtered men, and loaded women, girls and children into trucks.

Two of Zara's brothers were out of town when the militants struck in one of a wave of hit-and-run attacks on villages as well as suicide bombings on places of worship or markets.

Zara's mother fell off one of the overloaded trucks but tried to chase after the vehicle that was ferrying away her only daughter and her four-year-old son but was unable to keep up as the truck headed 22 km (14 miles) road journey to Bita.

ENSLAVED BY MILITANTS

At the time, Bita and other surrounding towns close to the Sambisa forest, were in Boko Haram control.

"As soon as we arrived, they told us that we were now their slaves," Zara recalled.

Her days were spent doing chores and learning the tenets of her new religion, Islam, until, two months later, she was given away in marriage to Ali, a Boko Haram commander, and moved into from a shared house to his accommodation.

"After I became a commander's wife, I had freedom. I slept anytime I wanted, I woke up anytime I wanted," she said.

"He bought me food and clothes and gave me everything that a woman needs from a man," adding that he also gave her a mobile phone with his number plugged in and tattooed his name on her stomach to mark her as a Boko Haram wife.

Ali assured her that the fight would soon be over and they would return to his home town of Baga where he intended his new wife to join his fishing business.

He told her that he had abandoned his fisherman trade and joined the militant group after his father and elder brother, both fishermen like himself, were killed by Nigerian soldiers.

In a June 2015 report based on years on research and analysis of evidence, Amnesty International said the Nigerian army was guilty of gross human rights abuse and extra judicial killing of civilians in parts of northeast Nigeria, calling for an investigation into war crimes.

Ali was not at home when the Nigerian army stormed Bita in March 2015 and rescued Zara and scores of other women, taking them to a refugee camp in Yola in northeast Nigeria.

The raid came as international scrutiny on Nigeria increased after the high profile abduction of 200 schoolgirls from Chibok in northern Nigeria in April 2014 which caused outrage internationally and sparked the global campaign #bringbackourgirls. The girls are yet to be found.

But Zara and Ali stayed in touch by phone until Nigerian soldiers realised some of the girls in the camp were still in touch with their abductors, seized their phones and moved them to another camp until they were reunited with their families.

Zara now lives with her extended family and son in a town far away from Izge.

Back with her family, Zara's male relatives took over control of her life again, with requests for interviews fielded by them and all of her movements monitored by her family.

But asked her opinion, she said she would rather be with her Boko Haram husband.

"If I had my way, I would retrieve the phone number he gave me," she said, regretting not committing his number to memory.

But Zara is realistic and knows the possibility of being reunited with Ali is very slim.

Instead she wants to return to school when Usman stops breastfeeding and maybe then run her own business.

"I want to do a business that is suitable for a woman, something that will not take me out of the house," she said.

Politics / INEC Bars APC From Presenting Candidates In Senatorial Rerun Election by IlajeGal1: 7:13am On Feb 05, 2016
Ahead of the Kogi east and central senatorial districts rerun election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has barred the All Progressives Congress (APC) from taking part in the poll scheduled for February 20. Recall an Appeal court ruling had earlier nullified the elections of Senator Abubakar Abdulrahaman (Kogi East APC) and Senator Mohammed Abdulsalami Ohiare (Kogi Central APC) on grounds of non-conduct of primaries and ordered for rerun election within 90 days.

According to INEC’s State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Halilu Pai, the exclusion of APC from the rerun election was in compliance with the dictates of the ruling of the court, which had particularly ordered that APC and its candidates should not be part of the rerun poll. The ruling party is also excluded from participating in the reruns for Okene/Ogori-Magongo federal constituency, Ofu and Ankpa I State Assembly. This restriction will however not affect the State Assembly rerun election for Dekina I (Biraidu) Dekina II (Okura) and Idah State Constituency.

Politics / "Pressure On Buhari To Stop Anti-Corruption War" - VP Yemi Osinbajo by IlajeGal1: 1:04am On Feb 05, 2016
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is under pressure from the elite to slow down the fight against corruption.

This was contained in a statement issued yesterday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande.

The statement quoted the vice president as saying that pressure from some Nigerian elite to slow down the ongoing fight against graft would not deter the Buhari presidency from ridding the country of the problem of corruption.

“We get regular messages from some Nigerian elite saying cool down,” the vice-president disclosed the pressures on the presidency to relent in the anti-corruption fight, during a meeting yesterday in his office with a delegation from the Moslem Congress of Nigeria.

Osinbajo said: “It is a very strange morality that some of those people have very complicated but cutting across all tribes and religious differences.”

But Osinbajo noted that the Nigerian people on the contrary had a clearer understanding of right and wrong.
According to him, “The masses don’t have that problem.”

Although some elites are saying “it is not a big deal,” and that government should merely ask the looters of the commonwealth of the nation to return the money and go, Osinbajo expressed gladness that “a new tribe of Nigerians who would not compromise their values but would maintain a sense of right and wrong is now emerging.

“The man on the street is very clear, so whatever some of these elites say, we shall keep our focus on the masses who voted for us,” the vice president declared.

He said it was simply unacceptable that in the last 16 years there was not a single federal government completed road project, let alone rail.

“The reason is corruption,” he said, adding that the cost of projects were often inflated as people entrusted with public trust struggle to enrich themselves at the expense of the people.

He said it was the same inordinate desire for enrichment that explained why money meant to procure arms were being distributed among persons at a time when the territorial integrity of the nation was being attacked.

“The insurgency has gone on for six years because government could not adequately equip the military,” he stated
But the vice-president assured Nigerians that President Buhari and himself would not relent.
He said the president and himself have no other agenda them “the progress of this country.”

Osibanjo said the prresident and him self were extremely focussed on what they needed to do.
“We will focus on critical things, infrastructure and social investments,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation from the Moslem Congress of Nigeria, Imam Abdulahi Shuaib, conveyed the support of the organisation to the government in its programmes including anti-corruption, and expressed readiness to offer assistance.
He said: “We are thankful that our candidates of choice in the election emerged.”

Shuaib said the choice of the president and his deputy were made by God Himself during last year’s presidential election.

The statement said Osinbajo also received delegations from the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Facility for Oil Sector Transparency Reform (FOSTER), a group composed of NGOs involved in different issues in the Niger Delta areas.

At his courtesy meeting with the NSE, Osinbajo praised the engineers and highlighted the importance of the profession in national development.

“There is no question at all that engineers are central to the development of the society,” he noted.
The NSE delegation was led by its President, Mr. Otis Anyaeji.

Speaking earlier while receiving FOSTER, the vice president restated the government’s commitment to the development of the Niger Delta.

Politics / Bola Tinubu: "Why APC Welcomes Defectors From Any Political Party" by IlajeGal1: 5:11am On Jan 25, 2016
The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said the influx of defectors into the ruling party has no dangerous effect. Tinubu made this disclosure yesterday while speaking at the Government House in Ibadan during a condolence visit to the family of the late Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugbade 1.

In his words, Tinubu said: “A human being must be able to associate and join any political party he or she wants, so you cannot stop them, or discriminate against them. If any member of a party is coming into APC and he is discriminated upon, it will be unfair. A good political party must be tolerant, accommodating to any member of a party coming into APC as long as they do not import corruption and injustice into our party. It is necessary for us to be tolerant and that is why APC is welcoming them into the party and we shall not discriminate against them.”

On the late Olubadan, Tinubu eulogized him saying, "Our late Baba lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation by our traditional institution. He was fearless, courageous and incorruptible. We are proud of his spartan lifestyle and discipline. Kabiyesi loved Ajimobi and I can say that he was one of his staunch backers for the governorship ticket."

Politics / "There Are Corrupt Ministers In Buhari's Government"-PDP Chair Secondus Alleges by IlajeGal1: 4:47am On Jan 25, 2016
The acting National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has said some of the 55 Nigerians identified by the Federal Government to have stolen N1.34 trillion are reportedly serving Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet. Secondus made this known in an interview where he accused the All Progressives Congress(APC)-led administration of turning a blind eye to the misdeeds of its supporters. The PDP chieftain aslo faulted the handcuffing of PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, at his recent court appearances.

According to Secondus: “This corruption involves both APC and PDP. Those involved are still in the government of Muhammadu Buhari, serving as ministers, some holding ranking positions even in security agencies. He should bring them to book; we are not against his fight against corruption, but it should be holistic and there must be Rule of Law. Look at the handcuffs on PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh. It is wicked and vindictive. Nigerians should see what is happening in a democracy because Metuh is the spokesperson of opposition party. Now, no one can speak freely. We are operating under threat and a Police state; our families now live under threat and they are being asked questions at the airport.”

Politics / "Tompolo Had The Support Of Goodluck Jonathan" - Ijaw Elders To Buhari by IlajeGal1: 9:02am On Jan 22, 2016
By JUMI RHODES

The Ijaw Council of Elders- Delta State has written to President Muhammadu Buhari on Tompolo, alleged arrest of Ijaw elders, and other issues. In the letter titled 'Pipeline Attacks: Ijaw Elders Say No To Another Military Invasion of Gbaramatu Kingdom', it stated that,"While not holding brief for Tompolo, the ex-militant leader and contractor to the Federal Government had the backing of former President Goodluck Jonathan in policing the pipelines during which period he stepped on toes of many big time oil bunkerers across the nation. That way, oil production was raised to a record height. As one now in opposition party, could agents of the present ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) whose toes he stepped on, be fighting back with actions for smear campaign."

On the threat to arrest Ijaw elders, the letter further stated that,"It is sad to note that Commanding Officers of the military in occupation threatened to arrest elders of the Ijaw communities where there was vandalization of oil installations. No such threat was issued to elders of communities in the North East where Boko Haram has held sway for years with sustained capacity for wrecking occasional and spectacular havocs on the populace till now. It should be noted that elders have words, not guns to confront arms and angry youths and can only deploy words, to effect, only if the youths believe the Federal Government would respect the words of the Ijaw elders. The seeming treatment that the Ijaw/Niger Delta is a coquered territory in the Nigerian nation is unfortunate and does not promote a sense of belonging."

Politics / Rotimi Amaechi:"FG May Probe Stealing In Oil Sector During Jonathan's Tenure" by IlajeGal1: 12:05am On Jan 15, 2016
The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has said after the investigation on the $2.1billion arms fund, the misappropriation of funds in the oil sector by the Goodluck Jonathan-led administration may be the next to be probed by the Federal Government. Amaechi made this known on Thursday during a panel session at a round-table discussion organised by Business Eye in Lagos while speaking on the missing $49bn oil revenue, which the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido, alleged that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation did not remit into the Federation Account.

Amaechi said, “Even before Sanusi and President Goodluck Jonathan began to quarrel, I had to leak that letter. Sanusi wrote that letter to the President in September, I leaked it sometime in January, and that letter was personal: ‘Mr. President, $49bn was missing,’ and I got a copy of that letter. Instead of the Federal Government to say we are going to address this, they began to debate with the CBN governor and Nigerians join in the debate. Oh, it is not possible. Now, they have seen that is possible. I am sure this investigation going on, maybe when they finish with arms deal, they will go to oil. You will be seeing the stealing as it is going.”

Politics / “I Am Not Corrupt, I Did My Best As Governor” - Ex-Bauchi Gov. Isa Yuguda by IlajeGal1: 2:41am On Jan 08, 2016
By JUMI RHODES

The immediate past governor of Bauchi State, Mallam Isa Yuguda has appealed to Nigerians to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari as he tackles the economic and security challenges facing the nation. The former governor also said he is not a corrupt politician. Yuguda made this disclosure in a statement from Abuja yesterday. According to Yuguda: “What is happening today is like when you want a deep wound to heal quickly, you need to wash it thoroughly with the necessary disinfectants and chemicals. It pains as it bleeds. But the gain is actually in the pain especially where there is an assurance that what we are doing is right. It is only a temporary pain. This is the stage we are in the country now and it calls for deep patience and understanding of all citizens.

“We can discern clearly that President Buhari is trying to make things work. His clarity of purpose is as unmistakable as his sincerity. Nigerians should try to be patient. Take for example the situation in the oil sector where it has not been possible to dismantle the cartel in that sector in the past. Everybody has a critical role to play in the ongoing nation-building process including those who served in whatever capacity in the past. Our present political office holders need to accommodate the opinions of former public office holders for the collective benefit of the country. It is not everybody who once served that is corrupt. This mindset should change.”

On allegations that all the former 36 governors were corrupt, Yuguda said: “On a very personal note, I did my best while in office but some misguided elements went on social media platforms to discredit me unjustly and ignorantly, accusing me of what I did not do. I leave them to Almighty Allah’s judgment. I served my people and my country to the best of my ability and conscience. I love my country. We have no other country we can call our own.”

Politics / FULL LIST: "From Anenih's N53million,9 Of Us Visited Sultan & 13 Emirs" -Yakasai by IlajeGal1: 6:47am On Jan 07, 2016
PDP chieftain, and former Special Adviser to ex-president Shehu Shagari, Tanko Yakasai yesterday confirmed that ex-PDP BoT chairman Chief Tony Anenih gave him and 8 other prominent Northerners N53m for advocacy visit to northern traditional rulers. According to 90-year-old Yakasai, he collected the money after Anenih's suggestion that he(Yakasai) should meet with the Northerners to mobilize their subjects for a hitch-free 2015 general election. The sum of N53million is said to have catered for the mobilisation team members' allowances, transportation and accommodation on a tour that took them to 18 states in the north.

Speaking to Vanguard, Yakassai said that “Yes, myself and 8 others collected N53m from Chief Tony Anenih to pay advocacy visit to prominent northern emirs to mobilise their subjects for a hitch-free 2015 general elections.” Yakasai named former minister of state, Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Anka, Barrister Bitrus Gwada and Alhaji Suleiman Lawal, Dr Bahago, Chief John Macklink from Plateau, and Senator Sodangi. Meanwhile one of the named beneficiaries, Chief John Mankilik has denied knowledge of the source of the money. Politics / Wole Soyinka On Birthday Refund:"Nyesom Wike Swims In The Sewage Of Corruption" by IlajeGal1: 12:38am On Jan 07, 2016
Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has slammed Rivers State Government over an allegation that the immediate past governor, now minister of transportation Mr. Rotimi Amaechi allegedly spent N82 million to host him during his 80th birthday. Soyinka reacted to the statement by the Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Dr Austin Tam-George. Below is the statement entitled, “Those who flounder in the sewage of corruption":

“This morning, I saw only the headlines in one or two print media regarding the 80th Birthday dinner to which I was hosted by the former governor of Rivers State, the Honorable Rotimi Amaechi, now Minister of Transportation. I ignored them. It was not, and remains not my business to probe into the catering and logistical implications of the hundreds of institutions and governments all over the world to whom I acknowledge an immense debt of unsolicited recognition over the years.

“Since then however, I have learnt of some unsavory statements by the insecure incumbent of the Rivers State government Lodge. These included a loose invitation to anti-crime agencies to investigate the potential crime of being honoured through any occasion. The unprecedented call by this governor is prescient of a warning I recounted in my recent pamphlet publication THE REPUBLIC OF LIARS, and was taken from my address to an anti-corruption global conference that took place in Tunisia two years ago. Those words were: CORRUPTION STRIKES BACK. In this ongoing instance, that expression translates most vividly as “Those who are neck deep in the sewage of corruption ensure that they splatter sewage in all possible and improbable directions.

“I do however fully support the Wikeleaks call for multi-directional probes. I recommend further that he involve the services of INTERPOL to guarantee its extension to all international organisations and governments to whom I owe uncountable events of recognition – including birthday luncheons, dinners, cultural receptions and events of real, fictitious, or simply opportunistic flavoring – to which I have submitted myself. The descent to this present level of abominable distractions makes one truly despair. It is one that even I did not envisage when I warned – CORRUPTION STRIKES BACK! Whether it brings honour or dishonour to the nation is another matter – I am saddened, but indifferent. EFCC and company – over to you! You all know where I live."

Politics / Femi Fani-Kayode: "Jonathan, Dasuki Didn't Give Me N1.7 billion" by IlajeGal1: 12:19am On Jan 07, 2016
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has dismissed media reports alleging that he received N1.7billion of the controversial $2.1billion arms deal fund from the office of the ex-National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.). Fani-Kayode made this disclosure in a statement, excerpted below:

“I read with amusement the allegation that was made in the media report that I was given 1.7 billion naira cash by President Goodluck Jonathan. This is false. A few hours later they changed their story and said that I received 1.7 billion naira from the office of the former NSA, Colonel Sambo Dasuki. This is also false.

“I have never received one kobo from President Jonathan himself, Colonel Dasuki or any other member of President Jonathan’s government. I have not ever been in receipt of any public funds and neither was I the beneficiary of any payments in cash, transfer, cheque or otherwise from any government official during the tenure of President Jonathan.

“As Director of Media and Publicity of the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign organisation I received money on behalf of the Directorate of Media and Publicity which I headed from private individuals and companies during the election campaigns but these were not public funds but rather private contributions specifically for the Presidential and other campaigns.

“Such moneys were transferred into my account by the Director of Finance of the Presidential Campaign Organisation and that account was specifically set up for the purpose of running the publicity and media aspect of the campaign for the whole country and my Directorate.

“These private individuals and companies paid their contributions into a designated account which was provided and controlled by the Director of Finance and from there she transferred it to the accounts of the various Directors and various individuals that were running for public office that the PCO supported.

“The money that was sent to me for my Directorate by the Director of Finance was used in a lawful and responsible manner and by the time the campaigns were over my Directorate had paid all of its bills for services rendered and was not owing any media house or anyone else one kobo.

“The Presidential candidate of our party President Goodluck Jonathan, the D-G of the PCO, the Auditor of the PCO, the Advisor to the PCO and the Director of Finance of the PCO all received reports and saw the results of the efforts of my Directorate. Not only were they satisfied with our efforts but they also commended us.

“Those private individuals and companies that were kind enough to support and fund President Jonathans presidential campaign with their hard earned money were perfectly within their rights to do so and they were more than happy with our efforts as well.

“They also commended us. Even though we ended up losing the election we fought a very virile, strong, visible, historic and aggressive campaign and the Nigerian people can attest to this. The encounter with the APC was an epic one and it was probably the most active and gruelling electoral battle in the history of our country.

“Not one kobo of public funds was spent by or given to my Directorate during the campaign and as far as I am aware not one kobo of public funds was spent by or given to the PCO. Presidential campaigns all over the world cost huge amounts of money and Nigeria is no different.

“This is especially so when it comes to publicity and media. My Directorate was difficult to run and our work was capital intensive. We did not use marshmallows, pebbles, and grass to pay for all the services rendered to us and all the television and newspaper adverts were fully paid for with money.

“Nothing was done or given to us free of charge by anyone. This should not be a surprise to anyone as the APC and President Buhari’s campaign organisation did the same.

“I opened an account specifically for the funds that were used to run my Directorate and fund all our activities in order to ensure accountability and transparency.

“We also audited our accounts regularly and insisted on the highest level of professionalism from all those that worked for or with us.

“Since when such matters have become a crime or subjects of criminal investigations I don’t know. If it was a crime to speak up for Jonathan during the campaign they should just say so.

“If it is a crime to be a member of the PDP and to be in opposition they should just say so. If it is a crime to speak up for and defend President Jonathan and key members of his government after he has left office they should just say so.

“If it is a crime to oppose the Buhari administration and speak up against his gross violations of human rights that they are indulging in and the violation of court orders they should just say so.

“During the 2015 elections the PCO and my Directorate spoke up and campaigned for many PDP members who were running for public office and we funded and worked for them too. That was our job and I am very proud of the PCO and the role we all played despite limited resources.

“I am particularly proud of the efforts of my team at the Directorate and I can assure all those that care to listen and that refuse to be misled by the government propaganda machine that we did nothing wrong. All we did was run an effective campaign and we did so with private funds and not funds from the government.

“I am aware of the attempt by the government and my enemies to discredit me, smear my name and silence me by alleging all manner of wrongdoing but I am not in the least bit perturbed. As always my innocence will fight for me and my God will never forsake me.

“I know that this government is capable of doing anything, of inducing anyone to say anything and that they have no sense of decency, justice or fair play. They are prepared to charge anyone just for breathing the air if needs be and they can attempt to frame up anyone that they believe is a thorn in their flesh.

“I have always known this yet I refuse to run away or to be silenced and I will not be cowered. Though I have been warned and told over and over again by those amongst them who care for my well being that I have been listed down and targeted for persecution I am not in the least bit concerned about their evil plans for me. My life and destiny is in the hands of God and not theirs and He will fight for me and vindicate me.

“As I have always said, the night may be dark but joy comes in the morning. If it was a crime to use moneys that were freely donated by private individuals from lawful and legitimate sources to fund the Presidential and other campaigns let them say so.

“No election campaign anywhere in the world, including that of President Buhari was run with just words, goodwill, grass and pebbles and neither were we given free campaign adverts or air time. All these things were run and paid for with large sums of money.

“This is especially so with publicity and media because that was the lifeblood of the various campaigns. I repeat, there is nothing that we did in the campaign organisation or that my Directorate did that Lai Mohammed, Buhari and the APC did not do in theirs. As a matter of fact they spent far more than we did but I have no idea where they got their money and whether they were private or public funds.

“Most importantly my Directorate and, as far as I am aware, the Jonathan Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation did not receive any public funds from any government official or office to run our campaign. Of this I am absolutely sure and I am very confident because I made a point of asking and insisting that this must be so. These are the facts and I eagerly await my accusers, persecutors and detractors.

“Meanwhile I shall continue to live my life in peace, I shall not be intimidated by the boastful threats of the enemy and I will continue to live my life in the usual law-abiding manner that I have always done.

“It is expedient and necessary for me to speak out now even though the EFCC has not said a word on this matter or even confirmed that there is indeed an investigation going on. This is because the modus operandii of the Commission of late is to leak their intentions to SaharaReporters before they strike and abduct their victims.

“This has happened on a number of occasions and sadly they use such mediums to tell all manner of lies about the case and the accused to the public. By the time they finish they would have convicted their victim in a vicious smear campaign and media trial which is usually plagued and fuelled by lies and falsehood.

“It is for this reason that I have taken this opportunity, whilst I am still at liberty, to tell the Nigerian people the truth and let them have all the facts. I sincerely hope that my statement will help to clarify matters in the eyes of the public regardless of whatever lies that they will soon be inundated with by a desperate, weak and wicked government. I fear them not because my life is in God’s hands. God bless Nigeria."

Politics / "IMF Doesn't Support Foreign Exchange Restrictions"-Lagarde To Nigerian Senators by IlajeGal1: 9:22pm On Jan 06, 2016
By JUMI RHODES

International Monetary Fund(IMF) boss Christine Lagarde has told Nigerian lawmakers that the organization, which ensures the stability of the international monetary system, does not support foreign exchange restrictions, a policy measure the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) had taken after prices for Nigeria's oil exports collapsed. President Muhammadu Buhari had backed the central bank measures to restrict access to foreign exchange.

Addressing senior politicians during a four-day visit, Lagarde said: "Additional exchange rate flexibility, either up or down, can help soften the impact of external shocks, make output and employment less volatile, and help build external reserves. It can also help avoid the need for costly foreign exchange restrictions, which we don't really support, and if they exist they should remain temporary by nature." In a related development, Senate president Senator Bukola Saraki has assured that the National Assembly will look into the foreign exchange restrictions. In his words, "After series of engagements with SME owners who are affected by the current CBN policy on Forex. The Senate has advised CBN to review."
