The Lion King (1994) - A Memorable Masterpiece

To cap of the year, I decided to rewatch movies that defined my childhood- the Lion King being one of them. As a child of 6-8, I rewatched this movie a 1000 times but never watched it till now.

Story: On the surface, this movie would seem to be a simple story of the connections of father and son and the effects of past errors; as a child- this story was just a fun time and always had me tearing up with laughter which it still did even now. But this time, the movie's dark story touched me and made me understand the effects of death, pain, and living with sorrows that may, is or could've been your fault. There's a scene where Rafiki said something about if something hits you but you still feel it, should you run from it because it's in the past or you learn from it, I just paused and thought for a whole minute.

Voice Acting: this is the best voice acting in any animation- hands down, just listen to Scar's voice😪 sexy asf and I'm not even a girl

Songs & Score: Hans Zimmer made this score and i'ld be surprised if it was someone I haven't heard of. All the songs in the movie are sooo good and I could hum to all of them even though I hadn't them for more than a decade unlike most Disney animations.

Why it's so memorable?: The songs, humor makes the Lion King very memorable and I could remember every scene, every shot, every word before they appeared or where even said and also because it's less than an hour 30 minutes

Wtf do you mean? If I see a movie that has a low score anywhere, why would I waste my time on it except there's an agenda behind the review; it's not being dimwitted, it's being smart with time and data

Big tease...Little punch!

With the effect of climate change already looming, the ill rewards of advancement in technologies such as A.I already showing and countries these days seemingly needing very little nudge to go to war further pushing this planet to near apocalyptic cataclysm, movies like this are going to be a regular.

The premise of this promised the aforementioned in the last paragraph and i was wagging my tongue in anticipation but alas i was "happy" for nothing. It had a fantastic cast to deliver the job at hand but it all went to waste.

The movie started with so much promise and it was chilly as it could be for an incoming "Armageddon" like, crumbling of this planet...Planes falling out of the skies, internet and cell services, totally gone, self driving cars causing mayhem, teeth falling out of mouth...i mean this had to be leading to some gigantic reveal right? Wrong!...All the finesse build up led nowhere than a silly pretentious ruse to rope you in to think the movie has some kind of bigger philosophical meaning but it's a dead end.

And to think the run time was a ridiculous 2hrs 21 mins!. In hindsight, nothing in this warranted such a long run time...A total waste of time.

It's mainly the casts - Di Caprio, De Niro and also Scorcese had very high salaries - also the sets are really expensive - they had to build a whole village and even a train station.

7.5 is a pretty high score for something you apparently didn't understand.

I don't think it's. Presumably, I couldn't really understand the tension at the end mostly because it wasn't an experience I could fully understand or an experience I've never understood but I knew it was telling a compelling story nonetheless. Also the camera movements and placements were sometimes so unusual but unique which gave it more points. You don't have to truly understand something to love something. That's why most people love Korean music even though they don understand the language

Killers of the flower moon - 8/10
This long ass movie was fun to watch from beginning to end, it'ld have been a 10 if I wasn't going in with a lot of hype😩. Comparing it to his other filmography, this movie isn't top 5 maybe 6. But I still had a lot of fun. It felt like the last scenes before the drama was just like Goodfellas😂 like he just decided to recreate it. It's still a masterpiece of story telling and this could be one of the hardest scripts to re-create

If Mami Wata is recognised, that's a huge fvvking W to Nollywood. Then we'd have to examine the roots of the director. Nollywood bred or from the abroad trying to tell African stories to a broader audience.

It just came out in theatres, so it's not expected to be out for downloads this soon. Japanese films sef no easy to see download early.

A delicately fabricated mystery thriller with a french flavour that would make John Grisham proud!


I have been looking out for this one since i saw the trailer sometime ago and it landed on my coffers on Friday and i had to devour almost immediately...

Starts off as a murder thriller with less intensity, but as it begins to peel away, it cascaded into a heated courtroom drama where under the uncanny scrutiny of the law and strangers, mistakes, secrets, and mental health issues is laid bare as our main act tries to defend herself in an apparent murder of her better half with her visually impaired son, seemingly the only witness.

Sandra Hùller delivers one of the finest acting i have seen in a female lead for a while, and she was basically the bane of the entire thing. Shame the Oscar big prize might ellude her because the movie seemed to be in an "Oscar limbo".

There's something about the french language that makes it so pleasing to hear, more so, it being spoken in a heated courtroom!. The dialogues were heavy with intent and so so good, totally reminded me of my one my fave movie "Marriage Story" (2019), that towed the same genre path.

Big shame, France decided not to submit it for best foreign language film at the Oscars next year due to the director's political squabble with the French President

But make no mistake, This was a special special film! 💐

Rightly said. It's not about quality but more about the costs.
Imagine hearing a show like Invincible costing about $10mn per episode. Won't you scoff at that especially when you compare the show to the greatest TV show ever — GOT, that had episodes for $10mn a pop, before increasing to $15mn an episode in the final season. You'd see a massive gulf in quality, both in visuals and otherwise.


Look at House of The Dragon that had 10 episodes with about $20mn per episode. Next season it's dropping to 8 episodes.

Truly, it's only network TV that you'd see in this present age having about 14 episodes and above. That's almost impossible in streaming these days and the standard is 8-10 episodes. Networks audience are so used to weekly release and are more patient, they also have season breaks asides being significantly cheaper to produce.
It's going to be compounded a bit with the recent strike deal between the actors and writers union of America for better pay. So, TV and movie production is about to get costlier. 😉 And surely, studios will find way more ingenious ways to cut costs. Also brace yourselves for more show cancellations. This time, there won't be much patience for underperforming shows, unless it's a key strategy for a studio.

You're 100% right. Not only is there no patience for underperforming shows, there's no patience for "likely to underperform" movies or shows.
A perfect example is Batgirl- a movie that has finished production, and even post production🤦🏿‍♂️. I can't begin to imagine what's actually going on in the minds of the people who has filmed, and worked their ass off in making the movie. Shows like The Federates that had finished production was quietly cancelled😪 even before premiering an episode.
