MrBrownJay1:

Didn't the sheep who saw that fraudster in robe calling god on cellphone ALSO gave their findings on NL?! So any religious brainwash dumbass could come here and write absolute NONSENSE, and we should believe it because there is no proof that it was fake?!

HELL NO, let them bring CONCRETE EVIDENCE to their nonsense, instead of expecting us to believe the garbage they feed you guys in church!
Who do you take us for?! So he said he had renal ailment, his accomplice confirm this nonsense, and we should all believe it?!
How old are you?!
So because one man claimed to call God on phone and called it a Miracle, every other Miracle is fake? So because there are fake naira notes, does that mean every naira note you see is fake? Atheists are always the ones jumping on every miracle thread claiming it is fake. It is not our job to prove to you it's real, it is your job to prove to us that it is fake, since you love us so much that you are trying to save us from our ignorance. Now I employ you to go and find proof that this is fake. If you can't, stop spewing trash.
Religion / Re: Why Do Most People Here Hate Christianity? by ilynem(m): 8:53pm On Jul 01, 2017
Lubyna:
I have noticed that most of the threads on this board are anti-christian threads that try to descredit Christianity and invalidate the existence of God. Why? Don't these people who create this threads know that God loves them? Why are they allowing the devil to use them as instruments to undermine the authority of God in their lives? Please let's stop channeling our energy towards actively condemning God and Christianity and instead funnel our energy towards showing love to others, which is the primary message of Christianity, and being the best we can be.
Welcome to Religion section. Enjoy your ride. And oh! They bash Christianity because that is where the power is. They can't bash other religions because they know that's misplaced priority.

I see that you just joined NL with this moniker today.

It's either that you have another moniker and now using this to try to derail the thread or you must have been so PAINED by posts here that you decided to move from 'guest' reader to being a member.

Either way my suggestion to you is this:
1. If you can give honest response to comments about the topic of the thread do so.
2. Open a fresh thread for your concerns about the Bible and invite us there BUT DON'T LUMP too many things together otherwise you'll end up being confused.

You don't put a whole bowl of rice into your mouth at once, do you? You take it in little by little.

Is this Imam telling the truth about Islam?
Funny, I didn't even go through his copy and paste post. I can swear even he hasn't gone through it himself.

MK 15:42- 16:8, LK 23:50-56, JN 19:38-42 (No guard is mentioned. This is important since rumor had it that Jesus' body was stolen and the Resurrection feigned.)
MK 16:1-3, LK 24:1 (There could not have been a guard, as far as the women were concerned, since they were planning to enter the tomb with spices. Though the women were aware of the stone, they were obviously unaware of a guard.)

MT 24:9 Even some of the disciples of Jesus will be killed.

1CO 1:17 Although he considers himself a disciple of Jesus, Paul says that he has not been sent to baptize.

MK 1:2 Jesus quotes a statement that allegedly appears in Isaiah. No such statement appears in Isaiah. (Note: IS 40.3 is seen by some as equivalent to MK 1.2; MA 3.1 is a much better fit, however, given that Jesus is allegedly quoting word for word in MK 1:2.)

MK 1:14 Jesus began his ministry after the arrest of John the Baptist.
JN 3:22-24 Before the arrest of John the Baptist.

AC 1:9-12 It took place outdoors, after 40+ days, at Mt. Olivet.

I find it a waste of my limited time to debate people like you. You go on Google and copy things from people with limited knowledge of the Bible and you come here to paste. If you had knowledge of what the Bible really is, and you had taken your time to read those passages (I am overestimating you, I know), then you will realise how ignorant this post is.

When I was very religious, I loved quoting that verse.

What does it even mean? How long does a person have to wait before giving up or trying something else?

Check carefully, what answer you give to the question above would apply to Islam and every other religion that promises goodies.
Christians in Africa have been asleep too long. Hold on brother. You will be alive to witness the takeover. And then you will see the turn around in Nigeria.

I don't need to be a christian to know that most christians don't follow the dictates of the bible compared to muslims. Take any issue you will find christians on both sides of the issue for and against. Including things that are supposed to be clear cut. There are now conventional gay preachers, women preaches etc even when the bible is clear that such is not supposed to be the case. For example many christians say that hell is figurative and not a firey place of eternal torture , many refuse to follow the clear teachings of the bible on divorce, the pacifism that Jesus promoted and taught is never followed by anybody. The bible teaches that christians shouldn't sue each other to court but who abides by that injunction? Most Christians don't believe in the bible and it's teachings, they just follow what ever it is their minds tell them unlike muslims.
Ok.

The bible is not compatible with today's societies. Christians unlike muslims do not believe in the bible and do not follow what it says, that is why it appears as if the bible is compatible with today's society. Muslims actually believe in the Koran and follow it's dictates more than christians. Christians just pick and chose what ever they want out of the bible. They interpret it any way they want that is why you'll see christians that are gay pastors, women pastors, etc.

Christians don't believe in the bible at all. They don't follow most of what it says.
And this is coming from a Muslim? Hahahahahahaha. Please I am waiting for you to explain to me how it is you understand the Bible better than Christians.

disabled people, menstruating woman, not allowed in God's presence.remind me again how it is applicable today in totality. y'all just cherry pick the part that suits you.
Your problem is lack of understanding of the Bible.

the Muslims claim the same about the Qur'an and the fact it has being in the same language without being translated into different translations, therefore it's miraculous according to them. who do you believe?
They can claim the Koran is "miraculous" if they like. I don't know their definition of a miracle but the fact something hasn't been translated into different languages doesn't make it a miracle. I have an English version on my phone so I don't even know what they are talking about.
Now I am talking about popularity. The Bible is way more popular and more read than any other book in the world. It is still compactable with today's society unlike the Koran. That's why the Muslims have to advocate for Sharia anywhere they dominate. Even in Nigeria, they still have heir Sharia courts in the law which honestly is a big joke in a circular country. Get my point miss?

As mine was also tongue in cheek.
And nope. The average atheist think they know the Bible. But they actually don't.

I am sure you must have heard this saying, "The sun never sets on the British Empire". Some centuries ago, the British held sway globally, their empire was so large that the sun literally did not set on it.

As they were expanding their empire, they took their Bible (which had been translated by a royal command), to the places they colonized. This is why the Bible is not the most popular book in places like the Middle East where the British did not conquer or India where there were resisted.

It is very laughable for anyone to insinuate that the popularity of the Bible is as a result of Divine orchestration. The Bible is the most popular book for the same reason that the English Language is the most popular language in the world. It is probably the same reason football is the most popular sport in the world.

Unless you want to tell me that English is God's approved language...
Many people don't have the choice of language sir. As long as you are born in Nigeria, it is pertinent you know English so even if I decide to hate English today, I can't drop it. People have a choice of religion. I can decide tomorrow to throw my Bible away. But despite this " Choice" the Bible has remained and will continue to remain the most popular book in the world. And even though you won't admit it, its simply because of its potency and usefulness in today's world. Look at other books, they aren't applicable today. Even the Shariah of the Koran isn't compactable with today's modern world. But the Bible stands true. His word is the same, yesterday, today and forever.

actually, I'm not interested in your catfights, I just love when it pops up once in a while

secondly I've done this physically before and it usually leads to Christians adding an element to the dilemma to somehow solve them

eg, my neighbours daughter is shot and bleeding fast, my daughter is also shot but bleeding less fast, I call the ambulance and they said they'll be there in 20 minutes, my daughter has 50% chance of making it to that time while my neighbour's has 0% chance and I only have enough items to pressure one bullet wound

do I now take a 50% chance with my daughter by watching her bleed while I try to save my neighbour's or do I just save my daughter and let my neighbour's die

in my experience what a Christian would say they'll do is to pray to god for a miracle or something, basically adding some "miracle" thingy somewhere there

beneath all these however, the message is that these moral dilemmas have no "right" or "wrong" answers, or bible answers

now to buttress Ranchhoddas' point a bit more, the scenario I gave up there is VERY simple, its straightforward and you know fairly well the consequence of any option you chose

the UN however faces a million times worse, complex dilemmas that are also intertwined with so many other complex dilemmas which also leads to another complex dilemma that may also give birth to some other dilemma and it goes on and on till your brain starts heating up
Sorry i didnt see this post earlier. Your moral dilemma example is an interesting one. But can I ask a question? How do you measure the probability of both girls making it? In a serious situation like that, you tend to act on impulse and not even reason. And as a Christian, i can tell you that whenever I have been in a situation where I had to act impulsively, God has always helped me make the right decision. 1 Corinthians 12:9 says: And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
When we are the weakest that is when God shows His power. And many times I have had to act on what you will call "impulse" but I will call God's divine direction. And every time, I have made the right decision.
Now let is assume I have enough time to reason the consequences of any action I take at that point. Now I will point you to God's love. The kind of Love Jesus spoke about when He said Love your neighbor as yourself. I do not believe this law is same as "Do unto others what you want others to do unto you". I honestly (and correct me if I am wrong) that while the latter focuses on Karma, very similar to " what goes around comes around", the former is focused on pure sacrificial love. Same love Jesus showed when He gave himself as a ransom for people who didn't even like Him in the first place. And of we are to be like Christ, we need to adopt this pure sacrificial kind of love. Doing things not because we expect it to be done to us, but simply because it is the correct thing to do and Christ asked us to it. How does this solve our problem?
I am supposed to love my neighbor's daughter the exact same way I love myself, or I love my daughter. Now I don't even think many Christians will make this decision. I don't even think I would (if I had time to think and reason). But since my daughter has a greater chance of surviving, I should help my neighbor's daughter simply because I love the both of them the same. And I know my child has a greater chance of survival.
Oh! And let's I forget, miracles do happen grin grin

Oh please!

Hopefullandlord's comments on moral dilemmas must have eluded you. Some problems just do not have straightforward solutions. They often involve choosing the lesser of two evils.

The world is not just white or black. If it were so, many books, from the Vedas, to the Qur'an to the code of Hammurabi and the teachings of Confucius most of which predate the Bible would solve all the world's problems.
I initially didn't see brother Hope's comment. I will reply him right way. I agree with you, the World isn't white or black. But God isnt that simple either. Problems might be complex, But God is more complex.
Ever wondered why out of all these books you mentioned, the Bible is the still the most popular and relevant today? Majority of people in this world must be "deluded" then.

Mankind has made great scientific leaps that the writers of the Bible could not have foreseen. In like manner, these advances come with problems on a scale that would have been unimaginable to them-- global warming, nuclear arms proliferation, cyber fraud, etc.

These problems are even out of the control of developing nations who love to carry the Bible more than any other.

It requires a very high level of fanaticism (read lunacy), to claim that the solutions to these problems lie in your 66-book compilation.

Even our pastor acting president is not tackling our problems biblically...
Of course there has been scientific leap since the days of the Bible. But that doesn't mean problems we face today do not have its roots in the BIble. For man to solve a problem he has to take a decision whether morally right of wrong. And there is no better moral guild than the word of God.
You can't find specific solutions to problems like global warming, but what you find can help influence your solution to that problem. Solutions that are morally correct and will benefit everyone. Even God knows you can't find specific solutions to those kind of problem, that's why He still speaks to us everyday. The Bible is not a manual that has all the solutions to the problems we have today, but it is a moral guild that helps shape the decisions we make in trying to solve that problem, so it is a pretty good place to start. Hence I said, the root of the solutions can be found in the word of God.

i think what he's asking is that how do you handle moral dilemma's? remember that solutions to world problems isn't that cut and dry and the UN are always between the devil and deep blue sea when it comes to policies and search for solutions

you can check out some simple moral dilemma examples online and see how you respond to such if they come up, then explain why your choice is "Christian" in nature

I may be getting Ranchhoddas wrong though
I have an idea brother Hope. You atheists love seeing us Christians get in a cat fight here in Nairaland as I have observed. Why don't you maybe open a thread with examples of these moral dilemmas? Then the Christians can try solving them using the Bible? Wouldn't that be fun?

Physical contact between lovers will not always be sexual , it can be affectionate . If you want a brother to touch you as a way of showing sexual attraction , then you might succumb if he persists and fornication follows . Its best that the thought of sex is distant from your minds to avoid any temptation especially since both of you are celibate . Physical contact in a sexual way every time can reignite the desire for sex .

Men have the 'morning glory' and that is enough evidence for a functional tool
But for a girl to see the morning glory she has to spend the night.

Thank your Mum for me jare. Many men are in Church looking for a godly sister while they have no fire behind them. He may just be using surrogacy as an excuse. I didn't even think of that.

My dear, If a man comes around you for marriage, no matter how Christian he is, and not even once attempting to touch you, babe run, it could be there's no fire. Let it be that we obey God in obedience applying self control than not attempting at all.

Me, i have learned, My Cousin met a man who screamed 'Bed Undefiled' more than anyone she knew, only to marry and discover cold bedroom.

They courted for 6months, not even once did he try to even pretend to touch her hand, but his christian character only was expressed in 'No sex before marriage', every other aspect, he was crude.

On wedding night, he was too tired, the days activities you know, she let him sleep. the second night, he brewed quarrel and slept off with his jeans and belt on.
6 months into marriage no show. This man won't bath together with his wife. He would pretend to go to poo, would bath from there.

One day my Cousin determined to rape her husband, lol. She was going to shout, "Have sex with me, am your wife", He broke down and started shedding crocodile tears. confessed that he couldn't. asked my sister to cover him and look outside. She said no, before God that would be adultery.

If i hear say...

I think you're committing a lot of false dichotomy here

1. sounds good but there are those who after birth couldn't get it back! and they most likely tried all they could, you seem to be oversimplifying this by implying hard work is all that's needed, its not that simple!! I know people who couldn't, I attend gym every day except Sunday, I've seen women frustrated about childbirth weight gain that just wouldn't go away no matter how hard they try, these aren't even celebs mind you, just the average woman who wants to keep shape for whatever reason they have and I can never call them lazy as even I admire their dedication

how much more a celeb who's source of livelihood is connected to her image? maybe they just don't want to tempt fate by finding out what childbirth does to them

this situation is not as simple as you are making it

2 adoption is hardly an option when there's surrogacy, most people would go for surrogacy ahead of adoption and then again you contradicted your own point with your next point about surrogacy, let me show that

"A mother who wouldn't risk her career for a child" how does adoption actually solve this? does this mean she's now ready to sacrifice her career for an adopted child if such circumstances come up I've seen parents who don't care for their child and I'm pretty sure you've seen many such around too so I see that as a no point, if someone cares for an adopted baby such a person would most likely care more for their own biological baby, it would be very rare even to a point of impossibility to find someone who cares more for an adopted child than a biological one, there's something about it

I think a bit of bias is shinning through here, it seems to me that you're trying hard to paint a caricature of surrogacy

developed countries have several stringent rules when it comes to adoption and next to nothing on surrogacy which makes surrogacy a better alternative to adoption cuz legal bullsheeets are very much avoided

all in all, I'm not saying I support them or I agree with their choice, I simply say that I understand their choice

in the real world its a matter of what works, not opinion of what one deems better
humans try to get the easy way as much as possible, technology has given us these easy ways over the years and now its given (certain) celebs surrogacy which has all the advantages they want

1 shape loss risk is hugely lowered
2 no need carrying any baby for 9 months and the health issues that come with it
3 a child that belongs medically and legally to her husband and her while having NO trace to the woman that carried the baby (As far as we know)
3 next to no complications legally

so if a celeb does chose surrogacy I fully understand her choice so long the surrogate mother isn't being forced (which is impossible)

I see a future where surrogacy is the order of the day especially for celebs
I am so sorry I didn't see this post earlier. Now let me address your first point. You will agree with me that nothing good comes easy. Talking about the women you meet in the gym, I have to admit that sometimes it is difficult. There are women who don't even work to get their figure back. But there are some that sweat and go through hell to get it back. It differs from woman to woman. But it is never impossible. Do you know these women's eating habits? Its quite useless if you eat like an elephant and then go to the gym the next day expecting a miracle. Plus these celebrities even have access to the best facilities, best trainers and all of that. So my point is, it might be hard, but it is not impossible.
Secondly, you talked about me saying "A woman who would not risk her career for a child". Sorry, but I ranked those decisions in order of what makes sense to me the most. When a model decides to have a baby, she's actually putting her career on the line. This decision can actually end her like you have pointed out lots of times. But isn't it worth it?
And I can see that you are all for the " easy" way. But easy isn't always best. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying surrogacy is not an option at all, in my first post about Abraham I actually supported surrogacy, but they had a serious medical reason to do it.
I have never been pregnant ( that sounded weird grin ) but I am willing to bet the bond between a mother and a child is not only due to DNA. The pain of carrying the child for nine months, the pain of child birth and that first mother and baby bond. If you really, really want that child I think you will want to go through all that. I once read a joke on twitter. A guy twitted that "getting kicked in the nuts is more painful than child birth". A girl asked him " have you ever had a baby?" And he replied "No. But I have seen girls saying, can we have another baby? But I have never seen a guy say, kick me in the nuts again".
Funny joke but when I thought about it, I discovered that the reason women want to go through the pain of child birth and carrying a baby for nine months is simply because at the end of the day, the birth of the child is all worth it. Take that away and it CAN NEVER BE THE SAME.
Now I put adoption as an option simply not because I think it is better than having your own baby, but simply because I feel it is a better alternative than surrogacy. Surrogacy (in the context of the showbiz lady) simply means you don't need the child enough to risk losing your shape and career to have him and you aren't selfless enough to adopt so you pick the easy way. A child who is your flesh and blood but another woman will go through the pain of carrying and birthing the child. I do not think that person will make a good mother.
