Religion / Re: Nigeria’s Constitution Allows Muslim Women To Wear Hijab – Minister by IME1: 12:11pm On Feb 25, 2022
https://www.nairaland.com/6976967/nigerias-constitution-allows-muslim-women#110059401

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, says Nigeria’s constitution allows Muslim women to wear hijab in line with the teachings of their faith.

He noted that all citizens are allowed to practise their religions as long as no harm or inconvenience is caused to other people.

He spoke at the National Mosque, Abuja, at a public lecture organised by the Coalition of Nigerian Muslim Women as part of activities marking this year’s World Hijab Day.

Adamu, represented by Hajiya Sidikat Shomope of the Social Mobilisation Department, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), said it was unfortunate that the controversy over the wearing of hijab in the country had gone down to the school level and generated needless clashes.

There was violence on Thursday at the Baptist High School, Ijagbo in Oyun Local Government of Kwara State, leading to the killing of Habeeb Idris, a Muslim student of the school, when a rally by the Muslim students was reportedly disrupted by hoodlums and security agents.

The minister said: “The wearing of hijab by Muslim women is a Sunna as recommended in the Holy Qur’an (Q 33 V 59).”

According to him, there is a lot the country can gain by dialoguing on matters of religious differences rather than resort to violence.

“Our children will remain citizens of Nigeria irrespective of their faith. They will live and interact in the world outside school where no boundary exists between the religions.

“We should understand that the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantees freedom of religion to all citizens. This, by implication, means that all citizens are allowed to practice their religions according to the teachings of their faith as long as no harm or inconvenience is caused to other people.”

He appealed to all traditional, religions and community leaders to use their offices to douse tension so that Nigerians could all live in peace, harmony and tolerance.

Adamu also called on parents and school teachers “to ensure that in both words and actions, they present the best model to our children to emulate.”

Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters, Aisha Duku; Hajiya Maryam Bukar Abba; Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Saadatu Hassan Liman; Prof. Rafatu Abdulhamid of the University of Abuja and the FOMWAN National Ameerah, Hajiya Rafat Sanni, asked hijab-wearing Muslim women to ensure that while the hijab covers their physical appearance, the essence on their lives and behaviours are also prioritised.

The wife of former Vice President Namadi Sambo, Hajiya Amina, said: “We are more determined to sensitize and promote this Islamic identity and culture without being intimidated.

Director, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Prof. Ishaq Akintola, who spoke on ‘The Hijab as a Metaphor of Our National Aspiration’, noted that it is the responsibility of everyone, especially government at all levels, to ensure that the rights of all female Muslims are protected to adorn hijab in public

Praise God, inasmuch as I appreciate what science and medicine ha ve done for man and society, I want to believe and encourage everyone to believe that children are gifts from God and He can give them at any age or time, if you believe. I believe in the stories of Sarah, Hannah and co. I believe people can give birth at advanced ages naturally. I believe those who use other methods also must thank God for life, money and success. Not everyone who tries science and medicine have been 100% successful you know. It's all God

Rest in peace great man cry

94 is no small feat!

It's God Who made it possible!!!

I'll miss him.

I've watched A patch of Blue, to sir with love, lilies of the field, guess who's coming to dinner and many more

I agree with this...

Originalsly:
This man opened the door for Blacks to play major good guy roles in movies. Watching his movies for the first time today... one need to realize they were shot in a time when Blacks were not even considered for major roles. "To Sir With Love" ... British?.... his roles did a lot to break down the Black/White barrier. Guy never played a role that will disgrace his race. Denzel Washington ... Morgan Freeman and a few others followed in his footsteps . Gone.. a pioneer... an activist.

He never degraded or downgraded the negro race.

Bahamas is also where Dr Myles Monroe came from.

Present day negro men and women eh, especially in the US

I leave the story for another day, week, month or even year.

But they need to do better just as Sir Sidney Poitier did

Are you saying Kogi can be a model for the rest 35 states and the FCT

Mind you Yahaya spends more time in FCT as Buni of Yobe does also
Please don't mock the good people of Kogi

Yahaya offering himself for president doesn't differ from when Rochas and Tambuwa as sitting governors then offered themselves for presidency. Their states were not in a good state at all. Offering yourself as president doesn't make you a tested and ideal leader for a higher office.

Strange men and strange party

Before this man's election those same 14 lawmakers were sitting in one of his properties as a parallel legislative body to those who had resumed since 2019.

Even the so called house of assembly is non existent, has no location, passes no bills, nor holds any public hearing

My dear which ever state you are just thank God, the other states you think are sane are all failed don't be moved by the glossy photo ops, edited pictures, doctored videos and media hype.

There's no functional state, I'm sorry to say. Ive been to over 23 Nigerian states. Edo is not my state of origin nor is Lagos, Kaduna, Ebonyi or Rivers or all the others which have been in the news for one reason or the other.

It's sad that we don't have a reference state. What would it take?

Will it be a strange thing to vote Moghalu?
Nigerians once voted for an Abiola who was neither their kinsman nor religious brother

For those of us who experienced Buhari as military head of state
We were ready to vote for even an Obasanjo for a 15th term and that says a lot.

When I was on the line to vote in 2019 I was so shocked when the lady in front of me said she's re-voting for Buhari because the devil you know... she said Atiku na thief.

But there were several others on the list.

I voted neither for Buhari nor Atiku because I believed in positive change, not Politician's change. I voted for a man I hoped will bring positive changes to Nigeria. I'm Nigerian not by my doing. God deemed it fit to birth me in this amalgamated entity. God is all knowing. Many have changed citizenship and many others have left permanently. But I'm here so I must do my best till...

To everyone who voted for Buhari in 2015 and 2019 and have no regrets, please take out time, go on a retreat, ponder objectively and project yourself to May 28th 2023 and ask yourself how will it be? How would this regime, administration and tenure go down in history?

I blame myself, because I made mouth that if Buhari wins I'll leave the country. I told all those who were too young to have known about Buhari, I told those older than me who were moved by propaganda and media hype, I told those who said it's just 4 or 8 years, I told them all.

But I'm still here cause I've a family who won't leave the country. I've responsibilities and investments. Finally I've faith that this country would be good one day soon, in my life time and people will return to it and take it even further.

But the concept of one Nigeria, right now I don't believe in it. I don't speak it or play blind loyalty and patriotism

God please help us don't let us go the way of destruction or damnation. I know this is not our home but help us, in Jesus name, amen

One way to know the moral fibre, strength, standard and sanity of a nation, city, people or family is the way they treat, react, justify, condemn and act on issues brought to the fore and hidden behind

Make I break am down...
The way your papa and mama go react, treat you, ignore any immoral yawa na the way their way be.
If your city see say people dey wear pant or sag they waka nobody dey talk or show pepper to the person wey commit, e mean say that city no dey send wetin correct.
If your nation no dey fight for person wey dem rape or deal with the person wey do am, e mean say that nation no dey see am as anything

In conclusion...
If media influencers or so termed celebrities phew trash in the name of clout chasing, relevance, reviving flickering careers, being high or crazy
And we the ordinary, majority, sane members of the public ignore because of greater issues of insecurity, rising cost of living, threat of hike in electrity,
We may wake up one day to see that immorality has out-ran these other issues to become a major problem and pain in our necks.

All sane and we'll meaning Nigerians must condemn in totality what Naira Marley said whether he was joking or high.
Those who would support him saying other people too have immoral fantasies and sick craving that they keep secret and are hypocrites, that's no excuse. It's the case of 6 and half a dozen.
Whether keeping it secret or voicing it out on an online platform open to many followers and watchers who'd blow it out louder on their own platforms is totally wrong

sad
It took the death of a brilliant, determined, young job seeker to reveal the mess going on among idle minded youths like Akpan just in his twenties and the old politicians and those in the top echelon of power.
For some of them it's for sports, fun and for hedonistic pleasure.
For others it's for rituals and other occultic gains.
I remember reading about boys used by Saraki erstwhile for elections who ran amok and raided in Offa,
What happened to them and their influential backers?
One eventually died and the rest are languishing in prison.

Then I heard about a family popularly referred to as Afro in Benin who where behind the killing of a lawyer and burying him in a shallow grave. I do recall that on visit to the site other graves where discovered.
#ENDSARS happened, prison break occurred and those culprits escaped. Now where is the justice?

Sadly here in Uyo it's another case of revelations of crimes of old. Other graves have been found. Evil atrocities have come to bear. Now there are threats and counter banters. But how will it end? Will Akpabio use his office to help the victim's family get justice or will he be solely interested in his name and image?

Will this be another cold case?
Will the puppet be killed to silence him?
Will there be an escape from prison?
Will his cohorts go on a protest to release him based on human rights since his is not a bailable offence?

This is not Criminal Minds,Mentalist, Law and Order or CSI,
friends this is real life
Our own here in Nigeria

Evil is parading the land and our weapons against them can never be carnal, legalistic, street sense, guns or roses, vigils or ornaments, stickers or beads, charms or amulets or even escaping to another country...

Believe me you, believe you me, the only solution is in God, in Jesus Christ, in the Holy Spirit.

I rest my case, I know who I am, I know where I stay, I know who I don't know or how much I don't have

What is wrong is wrong even most people support it or do it

Even if someone is a product of such relationship you can stand against it without hating or disrespecting your parents.

My elder brother who smoked at the time, used to tell me not to smoke.
In God's grace and wisdom over my life, I never questioned him saying, what of you are you not smoking?
Instead I took the advice and I've never smoked anything with my blessed mouth and lips
Not
Pipe, cigarette, weed, cigar, vapp or shisha
And by the will of God I shall never.

I don't condemn my brother nor others who smoke

Yes

For the guy above me dont make a mockery of the call of pastorship (shepherding)
There are fake pastors just as they are fake lawyers, doctors, teachers and mechanics

Ednut you won't tell a man to rub grease on his hands and overall, hold spanner and screwdriver, park a few old cars with open bonnet then boom he don hammer?

Please respect the Christian leadership, terms and faith
I won't say so about another religion

Counselling is a fantastic career op, go for it, but you need emotional strength, maturity and thick skin
