Paris, Manchester, Hamburg? I can go there every weekend, Europe is already boring for me. Paris i have visited more than 5 times. Actually i can board a plane from my european country to Germany, France or UK not even having to do a passport control, because we are in the Schengen space. So i can do it whenever i want, and flights are sooo cheap, starting from 20 dollars. I can fly across Europe with 30-40 dollars, cheaper than in Africa haha, when we have much bigger wages. That is why Europe is sooo boring for me now, after so many visits, that is why i thought, maybe give a chance to african countries, maybe there is something interesting there, despite dirt, mess and uncivilised people.. I have been to more interesting cities like: New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Toronto, Montreal, Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro etc...places that an african like you will most probably never set foot in this life.

South Africa is another shithole, criminality like nowhere in the world, now they have power outages everyday, a failed country with one of the most inefficient, incompetent and corrupt governments in the world.

I have read many comments from South Africans on this forum but I must confess, you seem to be the most realistic amongst them. As a Nigerian, I have read all your comments and counter comments from page 1 with an unbiased mind and I truly agree with the bitter truths you have highlighted. I have accessed the way of life of Nigerians and other West Africans and I came to the conclusion that if I were to be a white man, I would have obviously been a chronic racist especially towards most Africans because their greed and selfishness disgusts me. Just sit and imagine a one united African country. In just about 10 years, Nigerians would have flooded countries like South Africa, Botswana and Rwanda and introduce their corrupt lifestyles in those countries.

I won't even focus on other corrupt African countries like Cameroon, Chad, Somalia etc, I'll just talk about my fellow Nigerians here. We are looking a people that have used ethnic and religious discrimination to destroy almost every aspect of their lives. They have destroyed the executive and legislative arms of government, they have destroyed their electoral system, the judiciary is currently being destroyed and vast majority of the people see nothing wrong with it due to ethnic and religious bias against a particular group of people in the country. We are looking at a country whose government officials play politics with the issue of banditary and the security of the Nation. Kidnapping and ransom payment have become the order of the day. Everyday, Nigerians are planning and looking for the next country to flee to because they have destroyed Nigeria. I don't see how citizens of countries like Tanzania, Rwanda, Botswana, South Africa and most North African countries will be comfortable in a single country with such people.

Even here in West Africa, 3 countries just broke out of ECOWAS. Even West Africa cannot unite and one dreamer is talking of an African country with one President, passport etc. So let's say we have an African country and a Cameroonian becomes the President, do you think he will step down from power ever again? If a Nigerian becomes the President, he will start by destroying the integrity of the electoral system so he can continue to win as many elections as possible. In Nigeria here, before the person can become the president, his ethnicity and religion is first accessed. If he is from a certain section of the country (South East), he will never be allowed to rule the country. That is how divided Nigeria is and some of them hypocritically call South Africans xenophobic people. In the last election in the country, people of a particular ethnic group were attacked and beaten inorder to prevent them from voting. If Nigeria can be this disunited, you can then imagine how an African country with over 1000 ethnicities will be.

The disadvantages of an African country outweighs the advantages. Let us keep our boundaries, we can still carryout intra trades just as it is done in the European Union.

With that out of the way ; like I said on the post above , no city in South Africa is more safer or dangerous than the other, those are more personal feelings and perceptions than reality, not fact -based . If there was such a city with more danger than others , then Cape town with its high murder rate , followed by Jozi with other crimes would be declared no-go zones of South Africa . However, these cities like every other have their wild , great and ok neighbourhoods. Jozi is the New York of SA ,dare I say Africa . So it has a lot of desperate people from all over the country ,the continent and the worl hence the crime rate. Cape town has internal gang issues since the 70s and I don't see that stopping anytime soon. And also a lot of misguided locals from the Eastern Cape Province have joined the same gangs . So stay away from such and you willl enjoy the place .

Odimbannamdi don't limit your research on nairaland alone, you might meet some bitter people who came here on a student Visa thinking that after completing their studies they would automatically be granted PR status or citizenship , and every company and department would be head-hunting them for employment. I will be gently with you because going by your submissions here on this thread; you know very little about South Africa as you seem like a person who mostly visits and leave. So your lack of exposure and insight is understood, but you also don't mislead people with your opinions.

South Africa has many different cities and towns and all these cities and towns have tourist friendly places ,regular neighbourhoods; rich , middle class , combination-poor and middle and poor neighbourhoods. Jhb CBD, Alexander, shacks etc arent places any normal tourist should venture into as they are filled with both local and immigrant poor populations and on top of that drug trade and consumption and all issues that go with that. The only visitors who go to these places are not genuine tourists, just people who want to disappear into SA and cry victimisation when it backfires.

Sandton is also not a tourist centred place ; the place is designed for business networking, expatriate comfort but you can enjoy yourself there as there are nice chill-out joints to explore. So it's definitely a place you can use as your base; accommodation while you explore other places during the day.

With that being said , if you're going to any city in South Africa as a tourist; use Google. Jozi is more of history and partying type-of tourism in my OPINION, there isn't much nature but this all depends on your interests and tastes. Coastal cities have it all; the natural feel , history, partying and business and Cape town leads them all.

I was trying to correct the safety misconception here. No city is more safer or less safer than the other in South Africa, it all depends on the neighbourhood and ofcourse your own way of life and pockets.

Look for other better countries. Biko.. There are many countries around the world that will give you opportunity to build a life and career after your post graduate studies. It is international students that keep contributing massively to the research in many SA unis. The least someone should get after spending 4 years on a phd or 2 years on an intensive masters program in a critical skills area, is a pr or at least a work permit.

Take if from me, the hustle to come to SA to live permanently is overhyped. Things have really changed.
