atlwireles:Tell us i was not there ![]() |
naijaking1:There is no insinuation that the agitation or actual referendum was rigged or stolen, the issue is the motive for FG support while suppressing similar agitation in the domain of the ruling parties. The Tiv had demanded self government since 1940 and never got until civil war became imminent to get their support. Same was also a major swing in Eastern minorities calculations. They may come here to whine that they made a mistake, but state creation was the master stroke, just that as usual they failed to read the fine prints of what they got. |
naijaking1:Oh really and the peace loving NPC led government never for once considered referendum to solve the Tiv problem by sending soldiers to intimidate and kill them but was very eager to grant same to a less obvious request in the West where it's main opposition is coming from, very convenient. The Cameroon plebiscite was organised by the United Nations not the Federal government of Nigeria and makes all the difference. |
barcanista:And you think if NPC/NCNC was in power in the Western region, Midwest creation would have seen the light of the day judging by the way their own minorities were treated? |
Meanwhile Barcanista i see you have cleverly avoided the response to your false accusation of re-writing history |
barcanista:Is there any Ibo or Ijaw of consequence asking for secession or just some faceless rabble rouses. Who and who will be called to a table, unknown monikers posting on Nairaland or the amateur radio operators hiding in another country? |
barcanista:https://books.google.ae/books?id=Zu5GpDby9H0C&pg=PA1905&lpg=PA1905&dq=tiv+riots+tarka&source=bl&ots=INScs6hA-J&sig=zeP8Mqw3ME_0zhV9O841m6PoCmA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CEAQ6AEwBmoVChMIjL3L6aP3xgIVARMUCh2fOwC4#v=onepage&q=tiv%20riots%20tarka&f=false Read the above book extract to know the Tivi have requested for their own government from colonial authorities since 1940 and rioted in demand. There were riots for the same reason in 1960 and 1964. These riots were violently quelled using the Army and is one of the reasons Nzeogwu marked some military leaders for death because they were seen to be doing politician's dirty job. Oga Barca please present the link to where anything of that scale happened in the Midwest zone during their agitation for a region, then we can quickly see who is subtly trying to re-write history. So the midwest people on their own organised the plebiscite to decide or the FG supported it for it to be a reality. Why did the FG led by Zik/Balewa agree to the plebiscite but met the Tiv request with soldiers and death? |
barcanista:You relish in taking a one sided version of history to buttress whatever weak point you want to make. At no time was there a violent or sustained demonstration by Mid-westerners to create a region of their own. But the Federal Government led by Zik and Balewa of the NPC/NCNC alliance went out of their way to create the region after ignoring the violent demonstration and riot by the Tivs asking for their own region and the COR states agitation for their own region was similarly suppressed. The midwest was created not to balance the federation but to weaken the AG and Zik calculated that a weakened AG will be a direct benefit for NCNC and of course they 'won' the election to control 2 regions. But it was a short lived victory as the NPC they helped to hold power soon pulled the rug from NCNC feet. Why were the minorities in the East and North not granted similar self government as the Mid West? |
chigoizie7:So he did nothing for those states and they still gave him 95% votes, now i know SE hates development |
oshyno:But if PDP planned to implement the confab report, how will giving all their votes to Saraki and Dogara ensure that would happen? Was Saraki a champion of restructuring at any point in time. Will the duo heading the legislature push the agenda PDP purportedly planned if they won 2015 or they did it to cause confusion. Make no mistake Buhari has zero power to implement one single dot in the confab report as the president has no input to constitutional review process. At the most he can submit the report for consideration by the house which is what i expected Jonathan to do immediately the conference was completed if he was not baiting Nigerians with the promise to implement it. Unfortunately and till now the old men in their zealousness which is understandable, failed to see that Jonathan's re-election and confab report implementation have very little relationship if any. Since he failed to carry even his own party along and get a law passed to legalize the conference it because as dead as a cold 'dodo'. The report remains a pile of paper with almost no legal force whatsoever to determine the terms of reference, procedure for consideration of the outcome etc. What would have happened if Jona won is at most he can present the report whenever he deems fit as there is no law compelling him with a timeline to do so, and the legislature can lawfully throw out the entire report as there is no law that authorized it in the first place but we will be stuck for another 4 years with a rudderless government. I wonder what he was doing with the report for 6 months only to be used as a campaign tool. Where Afenifere goofed is in not insisting that a draft law be presented by the president and lawfully passed before they can participate. But they went ahead as a spite to the dominant party in power in Western region banking on power of incumbency that has now failed for the first time in Nigeria. If they had that foresight, nobody will be begging on anyone's benevolences to implement anything and nobody will need to use it as a campaign tool as the law will compel whoever won the presidency to present it for consideration to the legislature. I think our Constitution has guidelines for constitutional convention and i think Jonathan knows why he did not follow it's provisions for the conference, and that is 7 billion down the drain. |
Sibrah:Thank you for lecturing the guy properly, these are the type of students who pass through school but school never pass through them. What you have enumerated should be common knowledge for the average university graduate but alas we still get this type of post. The founders of the many world class car manufacturing companies have technical background or were inventors e.g Karl Benz, Gottlieb Daimler, Henry Ford, while many like the founders of General Motors were Traders, Businessmen, Lawyers, Accountants etc. So in a nutshell anybody can start a car making company if you have the passion and acumen to put it together and of course a product to make. Innocent must really have passion for technical things to have taken a huge risk like automobile assembly in an economy like Nigeria that is not encouraging to long term investment but short term trading and commission agencies. He made his money from trading and diversified into car making and if you look deeper it seems he is the sole owner. If the read the history of the above listed world class car makers, they were formed by pooling together resources of various investors. The weakness of our judiciary system has discouraged many people from going into partnership to create greater things. However for me as an engineer, i see what Innocent is doing as an opportunity for engineers to open small shops to make parts like brackets, fixtures, and other fittings and supply to Innoson, as that is the only way to develop critical skills and go on to create greater things. I am very certain that Innoson does not design it's cars and buys most of it's components from China, but it is still a bold initiative that must be encouraged and supported. In any case i am not sure Innoson is the first indigenous car maker, there was something like Bongos motors in 1970's/80's that failed like the foreign assembly plants. https://www.nairaland.com/11479/nigerian-made-car |
IsraeliAIRFORCE:This is the problem i have with so-called educated Nigerians who know so little about how they are governed. The law establishing the NNPC can you quote it? Is it a constitutional provision like establishment of states and local government or is it an Act of the legislature, What is the difference between a constitutional provision and an Act of legislature? Your answer to these will give you a clue about what it takes to split NNPC into whatever number. |
How can NNPC spend 12 trillion naira and pay only 4 trillion in to the federation account? And yet it cannot maintain the refineries and make fuel available or even build new refineries out of the money. 12 trillion Naira is about $60 Billion and an average size refinery of 100,000 BOPD can be easily built with $2 Billion. How much does Shell, Mobil, Chevron who produce the bulk of our oil spend on their own operations? http://nairametrics.com/unprecedented-cbn-nnpc-finally-submit-detailed-budget/ |
Shows we still don't have enough influence and importance in world affairs to have our way with any behaviour and still get what we want like some oil rich Arab nations. I am still yet to see what value the anti-gay law has added to Nigerian fortunes as the people who practice it have not stopped and no significant arrest or prosection has been made as many prominent Nigerians are gay and can hardly be arrested for such acts. You also find many Nigerians unflinching when Armed forces commit atrocious human right abuses for suspects as far as it's not in your region or village. There are videos of how the Boko Haram founder and many followers were shot to death with handcuffs or at the back while lying on the ground. The fact that these acts is normal and acceptable to us does not make it normal to our weapons supplier. The truth is if you study the official rule of engagement of the military such acts are punishable showing something is inherently wrong with summary executions. The fact that Boko Haram will behead a captured soldier does not in anyway invalidate the rule book. Otherwise we can say Boko Haram is now our standard of law making or behaviour. The choice is either we live upto the human right standard we are signatory to, or approach countries who care less about such nice things as human rights or wait till we can develop the weapons we need. It all depends on the kind of society we want to build. In any case it is still normal for many Nigerians to burn or beat to death suspected witches/wizard, armed robbers, kidnappers so you can understand why BH cannot be treated otherwise. Advanced countries who have generally transcended that level also find it difficult to accept there are people who still remain at that level. |
tonychristopher:Beg us very well maybe we will allow you to go the way Pharaoh freed the Jews. You all know the reason you are scared to go is not the Hausa and Fulani but because of your morbid fear of the Yorubas. If you demonstrate good behaviour we may be benevolent enough to consider your request ![]() |
kernel504:What has Igbos done about the loss of PH since 1967 |
Tunami:If you are truly a Yoruba guy then you must be a dunce specie to say what happens in the East doesn't concern us. Do you know the number of Yoruba Soldiers that died or were injured for life on the battle field when Ojukwu started his madness? Do you know how many Yoruba civilians that were killed by Biafran bombers before they were knocked out of the sky or captured? Casino cinema bombing comes to mind. |
nduchucks:I hope you are posting this with the internet developed by your unclad forebearers. You can still remove your clothes and walk around unclad, drop your watch and use the sun to determine time, and must never make or receive phone calls again so that you will not be turned gay or transgender. |
I may not support his politics of 2015 and the the way he jumped on an utterly decadent bandwagon, but i can't fault this write up in any way. I also strongly believe Jonathan lacks the character, acumen and wisdom to midwife the type of change articulated here by Odumakin hence our parting of ways in supporting re-election of the previous government. What i would suggest is to start a program of yearly increase of oil derivation from 13% to 50% over the next 10 years while the FG relinquish control immediately of ALL other minerals, power distribution, Railway, Seaports, Inland waterways within a state, to state control. That is 3.7% increase in derivation every year to oil producing states. This will allow every state to adjust their revenue expectations over the nest 10 years while sensible states will invest the little they get wisely. Instead of buying private jets, helicopters and awarding 200 Million pension to governors, they can invest in agricultural settlements if they have land or industries if they have educated workforce. It makes absolutely no sense for any state to spend more than half of IGR to maintain it's workforce. Some silly states even take pride in being described as 'civil servant' states whatever that means. The smart states should start adjusting it's workforce within it's IGR and ensure whatever comes from Abuja henceforth goes into developing education, technical manpower, health, infrastructure and joint ventures to develop plantations, mines and strategic industries. |
Lataability:Stop been daft, explain how Buhari can on his own legalise same-sex marriage, is he the entire House of Assembly? |
And yes the mediation meeting he held with his party to solve the crisis was recorded before his inauguration, the Ramadan fasting Ifatar with Tinubu also was before May 29th because his own Ramadan started before the elections, he also visited Chad, Niger as president-elect and the leaders of Benin, Niger, Chad also assembled with Buhari while Jonathan was still in power. If you have a conspiracy theory, at least be smart enough to be sure it's not riddled with gaping holes |
Proof that the Awolowo led government carried along all peoples in Western region and spread development far and near. This just within one year of self rule and he had visited a rural school in Bomadi. This also shows that not just Edo but Delta and parts of Bayelsa were part and parcel of Western region that some people are shamelessly claiming as greater Eastern region today |
Duru1:What is Ibo empire called and where is the evidence of its existence? |
vicenzo:Can you even remotely refer to any history about eboe people written anywhere before the coming of the colonialist, the best you can have is Aba women riot 1929 long after amalgamation. For your information Ilorin was not lost on the battlefield, and the Fulani cavalry could not be contained because of internal rebellion of several provinces under the suzerainty of Oyo empire including Nupe/Borgu present day Niger state and Dahomey present day Republic of Benin. At what time in your history did your ancestors have that kind of rech and influence? |
vicenzo:Nigeria tied you down or gave you opportunity? What were eboe achievements before Nigeria, which empire did you build, which other country can eboe influence be traced to before Nigeria. You people like to deceive yourself, you can't even point to any meaningful history about your people before the colonialist came yet you falsely claim to be the best in this and that. |
vicenzo:See daftness, the smart man does everything possible to ensure his home does not become a battle ground, for even in victory it can only be Pyrrhic. Now imagine if you lose the contest, what will you feel like? Just what Eboes are going through now, psychologically, they are always under siege, USA has participated in 2 world wars, Korean war, Vietnam war and countless others, at what time did bombs go off on homeland soil? In your warped theory that makes them cowards. Yorubas ensured that our homeland never became a theater of war, as we have experienced what war means during our own civil war and external aggression. We are a people of history and we were not ready for any senseless war. Eboe never had any empire so they are welcome to try their hands on modern day empire building such as the failed Biafra project. Yoruba Generals decimated your failed empire as all your attempts to drag us in failed with bombing of civilians in Lagos (a very friendly act?) and accepted unconditional surrender from Ebo generals after your CinC fled with tails between his legs. The truth is you need our consent to make any successful attempt to form your own country otherwise you won't be foaming in the mouth here and feel bitter we did not join you on your suicide mission. For now that consent remains withheld until you lot sign an undertaking of good behavior henceforth ![]() |
backtosender:It was that same policy that led to the death of over 1 million Eboes while the one that lead you to death ran away. Thank God SW has leaders with common sense who will protect us from annihilation or rather sacrifice themselves than lead us into destruction |
What should we expect on Tuesday when the exchange opens for business, sweeping bears or raging bulls? |
oloriooko:But Jonathan and TANoids found it not robbery to claim the railway started by OBJ and continued under Yar'dua as his sole achievement without giving any acknowledgment to the former leaders. Dude even went as far as re-commissioning in the dying days of his administration the Olorunsogo power plant already commissioned by OBJ in 2007. The difference in mindset between Jonathan and Buhari is very clear |
Nosa77:So because somebody posted a clip to manipulate your mind you swallow it hook, line and sinker, no questions asked no cerebral input from your brain. What is the difference between how you used your brain and how a hen will use it's own? They presented pictures of partially collapsed building and is that how ALL structural failures end? Even in Lagos there have been many cases of collapsed building due to structural defect, how many of them remain standing like those shown in this video? When religion is thrown into the mix even good people will become more than willing to commit terrible deeds. Go to Mende, Maryland and and ask about the hotel that collapsed over 25 years ago and ask about how many floors out of 8 remain intact after it collapsed. Was Boko Haram also operating since then? |
Religion devoid of reason is one of the causes of our backwardness in Africa. While almost all other regions of the world are advancing at a dizzying speed by controlling the force of nature for the benefit of it's citizens we get bogged down by trying to justify the illogicalities of imported religions. China can make almost anything ever conceived my man and India just launched as successful spacecraft to Mars. Yet we allow some nut cases to shape or thought by feckless and shameless lies and falsehood. The lies become even more painful when it comes from institutions that pretends to be a moral compass and repository of truth and upright behavior. When has it become so popular to admit one is wrong or made a mistake in any endeavor. Why will a religious body carry out reckless propaganda to protect itself from the consequences of wrong doing? I will answer, it exposes the quicksand it has built as a foundation, the hollowness of its philosophy, and the lack of belief even in it's own tenets. It is also evident that purports to thrive and grow despite official sanctions and persecution now needs government laws to implement and enforce it's doctrines and teachings. Nothing else can illustrate the 'fakeness' of the so-called power of persuasion and conviction it claims to possess. Back to the matter raised by the phantom group in West Africa that went missing during the last crisis on real West African citizens, the Ebola scourge, it is laughable that we only get to know of the groups existence when there is money not lives to be protected. Like Janus, the two faced monster that they are, the group claims it is controlled demolition and in the next sentence claims some aircraft was seen flying around and probably dropped the bomb that brought down the building. The question unbiased minds should ask is at what time did the so-called Boko Haram operatives gain access to strap bombs to all the numerous pillars of the large building? And they did this through out the floors undetected, and nobody say the strapped bombs, nobody hard the drilling necessary to correctly place the bombs until it detonated. The claimed a strange aircraft flew over the building, but in their haste they forget that such happens around numerous building in Lagos on daily basis including the one i lived in around Ikeja. Helicopters and airplane at low altitude is a daily occurrence for hundreds of buildings in Lagos including those still standing and a few that have since collapsed. In no case has anyone attributed such collapse to overflying aircraft. It is a shame that many church members and many other religious people are quick to suspend reason and jettison truth whenever a matter like this is brought up and quickly join the band wagon of this obviously stupid and unsavoury conspiracy theory. They have failed to show that the church obtained the necessary permit for the building job, neither are they interested in showing that the design of the building is adequate for the load placed on it's pillars and beams. The structural designers who are supposed to be professionals are not presenting any proof they followed standard practice in the job they are banking on been saved from responsibility for the deaths of fellow humans by the web of conspiracy and our penchant to forgive and move on. There have been cases in other climes of survivors committing suicide for their inability to render help to fellow victims trapped in a mishap e.g shipwrecks, fire. In most cases they are not responsible in any way for the accident, they just feel inadequate and commit suicide for such failure. This is not an endorsement of suicide. But in our own case we have people directly responsible for taking wrong decisions that led to loss of almost 100 lives, yet they are showing remorse, not even willing to submit to the consequences of the negligence they were accused of of even if wrongly. It tells a lot about how irresponsible they feel about the deaths. Neither the church nor its builders are willing to take any responsibility but are busy looking for scapegoats in some phantom terrorist. It shows how much moral decay has crept into the church as we have a lot of so-called CHRISTIANS willing to absolve the church of any responsibility for these needless deaths by buying into this false stories of bombing without any credible evidence. |
Pure nonsense from Metuh, even if it is true that NLNG is on tax holiday for 10 years, where is the dividend due to Nigeria for 49% stake in the ownership of the complex for the past ten years? He even contradicted himself that a supposedly tax free entity has accumulated over $5Bn , the guy doesn't know what he is talking about |
