Politics › Bayelsa Government Donates 1200 Hectares Of Land To Herdsmen by ImoRiver(op): 6:15pm On Feb 06, 2017 |
The Bayelsa government has donated 1,200 hectares of land to cattle herdsmen to control indiscriminate grazing in the state. In December 2016, the government restricted the activities of herdsmen in the state to the Bayelsa Palm area in Yenagoa, the state capital. According to the government, the decision was to prevent the invasion of farmlands and check any security breaches. During an interactive session with stakeholders on Sunday, Shitu Mohammed, state chairman, Cattle ranches management and control committee, said the 1,200 hectares of land was for ranch development, grazing and slaughtering of cattle. He said more ranches would be donated to the cattle rearers in order to maintain peace and order in the state. Mohammed commended the Bayelsa government for releasing the land, saying the gesture would help to sustain the lasting peace that had existed between herdsmen and farmers in the state. He also noted that the committee was set up by the state government to foster cordial relationship between the cattle rearers, farmers and the people of the state. “This is simply because the committee in collaboration with the state government and the security agencies had put in place quick response mechanisms,” he said. He called on the people of the state to appreciate the provision of the ranch as it will create job opportunities and boost tourism in the state. https://www.businessdayonline.com/bayelsa-govt-donates-1200-hectares-ranch-development-curb-clashes/7 |

LasGidiOwner: Shell has come to stay in PH. We support Shell to remain in PH. It has offices in Lagos and Abuja already.. Relocating to Owerri is not bad as it's safer and still proximal to Port Harcourt and Niger Delta. |

bakynes: For those of you saying resource control will address the issue of Militancy in the region means you don't know jack about your region. Maybe during the days of the military or the early days of OBJ administration it would have worked but at this present age, greediness and laziness has eaten deep into the leaders and youths of the Niger delta no matter how much they earn they will never use it for development rather they will use it to carry women, drink Ogogoro and buy Ammunitions to fight during elections, hijack ship vessels and blow up Oil and gas Assets.
I agree with Shell move your HQ to Lagos and operate from a much safer waters in the ND using directional drilling. It's actually Owerri not Lagos. It's been on the open that they've requested the repossession of the original headquarters in Owerri from where was moved to Port Harcourt earlier. Owerri is still within Niger Delta.

Good news for Owerri as more crisis in ONELGA means AGIP, Total and a host of other major oil companies will likely relocate to Owerri in no distant time. Already many rich ONELGA natives have settled at Rukpokwu and Owerri. |

Charlie Oputa simply wrote the truth and the wise should read into this and pick some points. Nnamdi Kanu was using Radio biagra to settle scores instead of promoting progress and unity of Igboland. The bad part is that a lot of youths have been brainwashed and lazy hoping that Biagra will be an Utopia when realized. |

opribo: Rebranding DANA air as IMO air. Owerri is a choice for domestic airline especially for the South East so its no surprise DANA wanst to make Owerri a base and trust Rochas it was a good opportunity for show off. They need to get new modern aircraft types like the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 for the airport and not repaint the old DANA air MD83 that is outdated in some countries with IMO air.
This is not real CHANGE it is superficial. Good. How many States have Boeing 737? |

goslowgoslow: So could that be the same Dana plane that killed both his wife and kid? Imo Air has a fleet of 5 and he can't make such ridiculous claim. His aim is to spark negativity so that the airline will receive low patronage and fail. |

This should tell you the level of lies and deceit from these evil people all because of jealousy. "Why Rochas?" is the reason for everything including radio biafra attacks. They have no single thing to nail Okorocha and resorted to mind games which unintelligent people are falling for. |

PDP ruled Imo State for 12 years and we know their achievements so Mr Ibe should stop being jealous of Okorocha because Mr Ibe failed.
The history has already been made and we appreciate the achievement. Mind you we are the only State that built our airport with people's money and that airport is the 4th busiest in Nigeria today. |

ZUBY77: Ignorant sentimentalists making fools of themselves. You run to the Google and grab colored pictures if a few buildings and boom, Owerri becomes the best in the East. Which Owerri?
After talking about Lagos, Abuja and PH, Enugu follows them. You can compare Owerri with Umuahia and Awka. Those are the places in the same league with your Owerri. Zuby you are wrong. More people visit Owerri than Enugu and Owerri is equally more modern and lively. Enugu is bigger and more developed now but with the way things are going it might not take a decade for Owerri to replace Port Harcourt as 3rd most important city in Nigeria. The continued crisis in Rivers State has pushed a lot of well to do Rivers natives into relocating to Owerri. If the Rivers crisis continues for 10 more years I see most oil companies relocating their regional headquarters to Owerri with the attendant boom. |

Realtouchnot: Nwaorieubi has never been rural. It is the headquarters of Mbaitoli LGA. Nwaorieubi is very close to Ubommiri which is part of the capital city. That road was even finer when Udenwa first constructed it. Agreed Rochas dualised some part of it, but it's no reason to be shouting Rocahs' name. Udenwa never constructed that road but rather FG under Obasanjo but that's not the issue. One of us in the car is an indigene of Orodo that returned from SA for the 1st time since 2013. He was one of those who were against the roundabout when it was done without the road. He only recognized Nwaorieubi from the roundabout as we drove from Akwakuma past Ubomiri on marked dual carriageway. Even the road to his house has been tarred. |

And for starters, Rochas almost never does rural roads. God deliver you from lies Forget politics of bitterness and accept the truth. We drove in group from Owerri to Nwaorieubi and many never believed we were far away from Owerri. Is Nwaorieubi not a rural area? |

luvinhubby: I disagree with the 'the most productive gov. east of the Niger'. Productivity is relative, consider his projects to the indebtedness of Imo state and compare that to that of Enugu and Anambra states and you agree with that Rochas is a collosal failure, Imo is the third most indebted state in Nigeria, next to Lagos and Kaduna states and point to the projects that dragged Imo into a ₦220 billion and counting debt under him.
Rochas just mortgaged the future of umunnem ndi Imo at altar of selfish national political ambition. You don't have the records. Get us evidence of States debt profile to back up your claims as this is no beer parlour or Okada riders news stand. |

Rochas doesn't even come close at all in anything credibility, in fact he'd lost it ever since he became the governor of Imo state. Is Jonathan more credible than Okorocha? Okorocha has done well in Imo State with his records there for everyone to see. Now what did Jonathan achieve in Bayelsa but yet was given President? |

Ndi Imo are not fooled by Rochas who plays politics with virtually everything I don't think so. I just left Owerri few days ago and I lodged at Concorde for 9 days mingling with Imolites that returned mainly from USA and Malaysia. It was an unanimous agreement by all that Okorocha is probably the best Governor in Nigeria. If you doubt just pay a visit to Owerri and the rural areas. Most people resident in the State did not notice the level of transformation because it happened in their presence but those who left for 2 years and came back were overwhelmed. |

owobokiri: His approach to national politics vis a vis the igbo agenda is a BIG disgrace.
His lack opf tact/planning in terms of project deliveries in Imo state is frustratinly alarming.
His obvious attempt to concentrate more on national issues while state matters liger worries...
That said...
The FACT remains that apart from Dee Mbakwe, nobody that has ever governed Imo state in the past has ever delivered the number of projects as done by Rochas. And i am saying the honest truth. Take a look at the hospitals... His university which is about to be completed will definitely be one of the best in the whole country atleast based on the infastructure available. Endless roads, new primary school blocks, even if hapharzadly done...
So lets put the criticism in some sort of perspectve; yes! He should be serverly dealt with for leading the gang of igbos that railroaded the igbo into an abysmal political relationship with this utterly evil Aparthied Peoples Congress. It was/is a major political treachery that must NEVER go unpurnished. That move has retarded the level of political/economic development in the east and igbos should no more excuse noisy politicians who out of personal relationships force negative political unions on the igbo. . YET! While at it, a little understanding of the fact that he is at the moment, the most productive governor east of the Niger is not out of place... Ndigbo might see him as doing wrong because they don't know politics but in the end it is our interest to support him. Only APC can produce Igbo President as PDP tricked us and gave it to Bayelsa. |
