Education › Re: FG Moves To Scrap HND–Degree Dichotomy, Empower Polytechnics To Award Degrees by Impactech: 5:30pm On Jan 22 |
Nwaikpe: At this point, it is clear that the leaders don't know the meaning of education.
If you remove the distinction between a degree and an HND, you then will need to develop another institution that caters to the needed technical skills. And then, those people will face the dichotomy again.
There is nowhere in the world where a technical diploma is equated to a degree or "academic diploma" (as in Germany Austria, Finland, etc.) The technical diploma was meant to complement the academic diploma (degree).
There is a very important distinction in these two systems: the course credit system.
The course credit system for academic diplomas is based mainly on class (course) hours. While the credit for the diploma is based mainly on lab (practical) hours. That is why everywhere in the world, degrees do 90% class and 10% practicals, while technical diplomas do 90% practicals and 10% class work.
Although due to the twisted nature of the Nigerian educational system, you will see polytechnic students doing 60% classwork, 20% practicals, and 20% argument on how they are better than university graduates.
That is why the mechanical engineering polytechnic student is busy running around, looking for how to solve a strength of materials equation, to prove that he knows "the theory," when he is supposed to be learning turning operations on the lathe machine. While the mechanical engineering student is running around, looking for how he can learn turning operations on the lathe machine so that he can prove that he knows "the practicals," when he is supposed to be solving strength of materials equations.
Then the graduate engineer runs around, looking for jobs that should be for the technologists, and the graduate technologists run around looking for jobs that should be for the graduate engineer. The employer now sees that the engineering graduate is not qualified to be a technologist because he is not practical enough, and the technologist graduate is not qualified to be an engineer because he is not theoretically grounded enough. Both of them lose the jobs and become unemployable. Then they blame the government.
Truly a twisted system.
Be a graduate engineer, I can relate to this. And I am just laughing 😀

Gracefilled01: I agree with most part of your assertions, but mechanical engineering is in no way related to biomedical engineering. Most of the medical devices and facilities you see in hospitals and other medical settings are manufactured by biomedical engineers, this is outside the scope of mechanical engineering. It is even more closer to Electronic and Electrical Engineering |

NiceLegs: Shortlisted or not. Give thanks.
It's better not to be shortlisted. Than to be shortlisted. Go through all the Exams and Interview stages. Pass through all the stages. Get to the final stage. And they drop you like a piece of paper.
You think it can't happen? It happens everyday.
Happened to me recently and I am still recovering from it.
Let me tell you my story.
I applied for a job with an NGO company called "Teach For Nigeria" in March this year.
I applied cos I heard of "Teach For Australia", "Teach For America" and I was like hmmm...this NGO must be very big.
Let me apply.
So I did my research and I applied.
I think what they do is to recruit University Graduates to teach for 2 years in some places.
Same month of March when the Federal Civil Service Recruitment was on going was when I applied too.
Omo...that Teach For Nigeria choke us with Interview each month.
I applied in March.
Long Application.
After few days. They sent mail that I passed the application stage and I have been moved to the next round.
April came....they sent email for CBT examination.
I did the CBT exam.
2 weeks after, same April. They sent email that I passed the CBT examination and I have been moved to the next stage of the interview.
Ending of April, they sent another email for a "Micro Teaching" Interview.
I did Micro-Teaching on the day they gave me.
That day, I knew I did very well because the interviewer commended me specially on my teaching skills.
May came, they sent a congratulatory email that I passed the Micro-Teaching interview and I have been moved to the next stage of the interview which was what they called "Critical Thinking Examination".
In my mind, I was like which kain interview process be this?
Ha!!!
Same month of May, I did their Critical Thinking Examination and few days later, I got an email that I passed.
Thinking that was the end of the Gulder Ultimate Search Interview process.
I was wrong.
Days later, I got another email that I have been shortlisted for a Final Interview stage which they call "In-Person Final Evaluation" at a place called Workforce Group at Gbagada in Lagos.
In my mind I was like ha, 5 stages of interview.
Which kind interview process be this?
Maybe the salary fit be like N800,000 or even N1Million and above as per International NGO now.
But sincerely, I was already getting tired to be honest.
Shortlisted candidates from other states travelled from far and wide, spent money for the interview at Gbagada that same May ending.
I went on that day. Did the interview. The interviewers loved me so much because interview session became like a family discussion. They liked my personality and I have teaching experience so there was nothing they asked I couldn't answer.
Finished and went home late.
While going home ehn, rain beat me scatter. I was soaked when I got home.
I was finally happy that I was done with their "unending" recruitment process and was just waiting for my offer letter because I knew I did very well in all the interview processes especially my Final evaluation and Micro-Teaching.
Only to hear last month June that they sent Offer Letters to their chosen candidates and I was dropped.
What? I understand? Really? How? How come? What happened?
I was shocked.
I was so pissed.
I entered this month of July with so much vex.
After 5 months of recruitment process? After 5 stages of interview process? You stressed my life. You wasted my time. You wasted my resources. You wasted my efforts.
On the day of the Micro-Teaching interview ehn, they booked me for afternoon session. You need to see the way I was sweating and shouting on top of my voice so that my listeners could hear me.
Oh...God. I don suffer.
Make it make sense.
I was so pissed.
Then I decided to chat up someone who got the Offer letter. She give me the shock of my existence when she said the salary on their offer was just N94K per month before Tax.
I almost fainted.
Somebody should please pour cold water on me.
N94k?
Like seriously?
For all that stress.
Really?
Nigeria is gone.
Anything Govt recruitment, I don wash my hand. Never again.
Let me go and make Indomie and Egg and eat this night and be happy biko. |

belikewater: Your head dey there my guy, most people who invest in ponzi know they are investing in ponzi and most pray they cash out before it crashes. The trick like you said is to invest early but in addition to that, cash out after 2-3months then re-invest only your profit, rinse and repeat so that whenever the scheme goes down it goes down with only some of your profits and not capital. As a rule of thumbs never invest in a scheme that has been going on for more than a year however, of recent the average lifespan of a ponzi scheme in Nigeria has been reduced to as low as a couple of months so it's getting harder to predict. You are a potential yahoo boy/girl with this mindset... What businesses are those Ponzi doing to give you such returns. Don't you know that they are rubbing Paul to pay your Peter. That's criminality |
Investment › Re: How I Almost Fell A Victim For The ADK Ponzi Scheme. by Impactech: 11:30pm On Apr 18, 2025 |
LordBiden: Nothing bad investing in ponzi as long as you do it at the early stage, cash out and flex.
Rules of ponzi. 1. Only invest what you can afford to lose. 2.invest early and cash out. 3.dont be greedy. I know lots of people ponzi scheme made rich. After cashing out, borrow leg and run fast like usain bolt from the platform. Life itself is a risk, every investment has its own risk.
Even your keke business has it own risk. Everything is bad about Ponzi scheme. It's a fraudulent scheme and anyone that is involved in it including the investors are conspirators. Also, the mindset of cash out quick is wrong and evil. That's selfishness and greed at work |

It's funny how people keep saying I can withdraw, so it's not a scam. Is that what makes an investment a scam? What are they investing on to give that return. Investment that's not registered with CBN and Sec. Where's their app on playstore. An investment that you know can crash anything, you want to eat your own and clean mouth. What's different between this and yahoo yahoo |

seborrhic: I thought i am the only one having same thought. All these switch over to Solar and I begin to wonder is it the same solar that uses battery and is limited in what it can do and carry and that starts diminishing in performance after a while? Unless there is a modern version of solar system that now has increased efficiency and carry same load as power stations,if not, nothing can be compared to grid supply. Why can't these unis with their numerous engineering professors can even solve their power issues locally? Will you fund them? Or they should fund it with their meagre salary? |

I think what you need to do know is to invest in yourself, go for knowledge that will increase your value and inturn give you more money and then invest in low risk investment like stock, mutual fund etc( Do your research well and if you don't understand it yet never put your money). Think about compound interest... Do away with FOMO |
