HepB is a common disease found everywhere. It's been in Nigeria for long and kills people silently. Awareness brings everything hidden to light. Like you said, lack of awareness is the major reason why many people are just hearing about it now. I don't think there is any concrete epidemiology record of other diseases that are not HIV and malaria in Nigeria, partly due to large % of Nigerians that don't use hospitals. Locals die every day from liver issues associated with HepB but not all are reported to disease control center for data collection.
