Thank you all for your responses. The panel beater is suggesting that I buy half of the front chassis rail (driver's side) and that he can weld it to the other half (undamaged passenger's chassis rail). I'm of the view that we get the complete front rail (driver and passenger's side) and weld at their respective ends instead of cutting and join. Please what do you think? Thanks

Radautoworks right now:

Kia/Hundai G4LA engine 1.2liter

Vehicle Came in with the following symptoms .

* A mild rattle

* Mild Bluish white smoke.

* Misfire

* Unstable Idle.

* Hard start.


Service History. Owner services religiously with full synthetic 5w30 oils at 7,000km intervals.

Engine has Had no issues for over 2years. Engine is still stock.

Uses tap water instead of coolant.



Test conducted Checks.

Compression test over all cylinders shows lower than expected compression on Cylinder 2 and 4.

Spark plugs darker in cylinders 2 and 4.

Problem happened when owners driver took car out for a long inter state Drive and claimed "vehicle just lost power on its own"

Fuel injectors where cleaned by a road side mechanic and vehicle has been rattling and smoking ever since.

Oil Drained and no metal particles at the base.



Sadly we don't Believe that story.

Tearing Down the engine to see why there's smoke and rattling.

I went the way of replacement as my contact in US didn't have compatible SRSCU to copy and re-write the clean data from and some contacts in Seoul wouldn't accept such jobs as ethics of their work disallowed that.

Typical of 'bought brand new in Nigeria' cars. Difficult to source its parts(2008 Honda accord 2.0 comes to mind). Funny thing is that the car is only equipped with driver and passenger airbags, whereas its counterpart is littered with all manner of airbags to protect its occupants for both frontal and side impacts.

I will NEVER buy a Brand new car in Nigeria! Imagine a 2013 car equipped with only ABS and OBD 1 ! Whereas its equivalent in the US comes with stability control as standard. smh.

This can surely be fixed. Make sure you buy new bonnet, bumper, radiator, etc.

While this is true, my only concern here is the chassis rails that have deformed due to the impact(impact was severe)
Best thing top be done in such scenario is to position vehicle on a jig, replace the rail by drilling out the spot welds that lead all the way to the engine firewall/bulkhead., and replace with oem rail via spot welding while measurements will be done as per manufactures's collision repair manual( as if we dey yankee )

Acceptable way is to position vehicle on frame straightening jig/jack assembly and perform COLD straightening, as the rail is not too twisted (Material engineers will understand why), while measurements will be done as per manufactures's collision repair manual. this will obviously weaken the steel(high strength) as it would be a little bit compromised to accept another impact such as this.

Naija way is to use tape rule, cut and join with metal arc (stick) welding

confirm all vacuum hoses are connected properly... it could be as simple as that Or as difficult as a broken timing belt

Explains why the american engine variants are cheaper. Most imports to Nigeria are from there.
