All you need is an Internet connection (and, of course, please don’t forget your user ID and password). This brings us to the next question: is it safe?

Convenience comes at a risk. Fraudsters can make your life unsafe and miserable. You could be the victim of a cyber crime in several ways.

Some may steal your user ID and password by an intelligent guess or trying their luck over several attempts.

Others could send cleverly conceived e-mails to deceive you into disclosing your credit card number, bank account details, password and other sensitive details.

This ensures the information exchanged between your computer and the bank’s web site is completely protected.


SSL is the universally accepted standard for authenticated and encrypted communication between customers’ computers and servers. They also have a firewall, a virtual electronic wall to prevent unauthorised access to the bank’s servers, to prevent hackers from hijacking information.

Here are safety tips.
Fraudsters can lure you to enter your user ID and password at a fake web site that resembles your bank.

Always check the URL of your bank’s web site. If you see anything other than the bank’s genuine URL, you know it is fake.

Never enter your user ID or password or such sensitive information without ascertaining that you are on the right web site.
Check your bank’s Internet policy. Some banks have enhanced security features in Internet banking. For example, if the money that you want transferred to another account exceeds a particular sum, you will need to enter a specific password for high value deals to validate the transaction.
Keep changing your password at least once a month. And remember it!
Avoid easy-to-guess passwords, like first names, birthdays and telephone numbers. Try to have an alphanumeric password that combines alphabets and numbers.
Keep your operating system and browser up-to-date with the latest security patches. Install these only from a trusted web site.
Always log out when you exit the online banking portal. Close the browser to ensure that your secure session is terminated. Never exit simply by closing the browser.
Install a personal firewall to help prevent hackers from gaining unauthorised access to your home computer, especially if you connect to the Internet through a cable or a DSL modem. Of course, your anti-virus software should be updated every day.
Many banks have a ‘last logged in’ panel on their web sites. If your bank has it, check the panel whenever you log in. If you notice irregularities (like you are logging in after two days, but the panel says you logged in that morning!), report the matter at once to the bank and change your password immediately.
Don’t use the embedded links in any e-mail to get to any web page. Type the link address (URL) in your web browser.
Don’t open, run, install or use programmes or files obtained from a person or organisation you do not know or from someone who is not a reputed vendor.
Don’t leave the PC unattended after keying in information while transacting on the web site.
Don’t fill out forms in e-mail messages that ask for personal financial information, like account or credit card numbers.
Don’t, in response to any e-mail, provide your online banking user ID, passwords, credit and debit card numbers. No bank’s representative will ever ask for your user ID/ credit or debit card number/ password in any form. If they do, change the bank!
Don’t select the option on browser that stores or retains user name and password (ie Auto complete).
If you have several bank accounts, avoid using the same online banking password for all.
Avoid accessing the Internet banking channel at cyber cafes, which are prone to attacks by hackers. Also avoid locations that offer online connections through wireless networks (Wi-Fi), where privacy and security are minimal.

Remember, your bank expects you to take the minimal precautions while banking online.

If you incur a loss because of negligence, you may not be able to claim any damages from the bank, howsoever faulty the bank’s online portal is.

It is easy to slip up on precautions in the glamorous online environment. Take care!

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has urged Ekiti people not to vote for the All Progressives Congress in the July 14 governorship election.

He said voting for the APC during the election was an invitation to chaos, killing, raping of people’s wives and daughters by the killer herdsmen which the APC harboured.

Fayose urged them to learn from daily killings by herdsmen in the APC-controlled states of Benue, Plateau, Zamfara, Kaduna and Nasarawa.

Fayose stated this during a meeting with teachers, civil servants and local government workers in Ado Ekiti.

In a press statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, on Wednesday, the governor called on the Ekiti people to reject the APC and its candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, to avert Ekiti becoming another state where killings by herdsmen would start.

The governor said since the killings started, the Federal Government had not been able to stop them and the APC governors were being careful not to offend the Presidency.

“We all can see how the herdsmen have continued to daily kill, maim and rape innocent citizens. Even toddlers are not spared.

“In Zamfara State, for instance, Governor Abdulaziz Yari, who is also the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, recently said he was resigning as the Chief Security Officer of his state. The truth is that the governors know what to do but cannot do it because they don’t want to offend the Presidency.

“In Benue, the burial of the people killed by the herdsmen has become a daily occurrence. Many communities have been deserted and people now live in IDP camps and the governor has resigned to fate because it is an APC state.

“When the killer herdsmen invaded the farm of Chief Olu Falae, setting it ablaze, the governor couldn’t do anything because he did not want to offend the Presidency that helped him to power.

“In Kaduna, another APC state, the killer herdsmen and bandits are slaughtering the people like fowls and the government cannot stop it. This is for you to know that there is no APC controlled state where the herdsmen have not become a terror to the people.”

Fayose asked, “Is this the kind of situation you want in Ekiti?. Of course, the answer is No. I am very sure people can now see the difference between the PDP government and the APC. The PDP was in power for 16 years and the security never became so moribund as it is now under the Buhari administration. The government is now noted for condemning but cannot stop the killings. Only insensitive people will vote for the APC

THe Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, has said that 414,696 candidates, out of the 1,603,181 who sat for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, scored above 200.

The figure, according to him, translates to 25. 09 per cent.

This is against the 465,025 (27.00 per cent) of the 1, 606, 374 who scored above 200 in 2017.

The JAMB boss, however, said that 558, 673 candidates scored above 190; 739,490 above 180 and 956, 937 above 170 marks.

He revealed this on Tuesday during the Policy Meeting held at the newly inaugurated Bola Babalakin Auditorium in Gbongan, Osun State.

The 2,400-capacity centre was built by the Chairman of Bi-Courtney Group of Companies, Dr Wale Babalakin.

At the programme attended by the state Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, among many other top players in the education sector, Oloyede, however, warned that scores released by JAMB were not the cut-off marks.

According to him, they are the minimum marks required while the cut-off marks are arrived at from the cumulative consideration of candidates’ scores or grades.

He added on other regulations guiding the process, “Every candidate is required to accept or reject his/her admission before the process is said to be completed.

“Candidates can now protest their admission status should they feel they are not fairly treated.”

Speaking at the event, Adamu urged authorities of higher institutions to work with JAMB to sanitise admission process in the country.

Shehu Sani, the Senator representing Kaduna Central on Tuesday called for the building of graveyards at the three arms zone of government in Abuja.

Sani said this will cause the government at all levels who have failed to protect Nigerians to share in the pains of families who have lost beloved ones to incessant killings.

INFONEWSNIGERIA reports that Plateau Police Command on Sunday confirmed the killing of over 86 persons in attacks on Razat, Ruku, Nyarr, Kura and Gana-Ropp villages of Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government. Also hit were Daffo and Kuba communities in Bokkos Local Government.
Sani had earlier in a statement on Monday in Abuja expressed concern over the lackadaisical attitude of political office holders towards incessant killings.
He stated that while killings continued unabated across the country, the interest and attention of the political class were more on power and 2019 elections.
The Kaduna lawmaker commenting further on the spate of killings on his Twitter page wrote, “We need a graveyard in the three arms zone of Abuja so that victims of the mindless killings in the country can be buried close to the seat of power.
“Then the Executive, Legislators and the Judiciary can feel the pains of the helpless widows and orphans we failed to protect.”

A 41-year-old suspect, identified as Fidelis Nelson (aka MP), and leader of dare-devil robbery gang operating within Lagos and Ogun states, has revealed that he went into robbery to raise money to build his church. According to Nelson, a father of three, who spoke with Vanguard, “I have a pastoral calling; unfortunately I don’t have money to start my church. I have had the calling for years, but no finance to make it a reality.” Nelson, who has masterminded several robbery operations, also noted that he and members of his gang carried out three robbery operations recently. “We actually snatched three cars last month,” he added. Vanguard gathered that the gang met their waterloo on June 16, after the Police received information indicating that some robbers, who specialised in snatching cars in Ogun State, were bringing their loots to Lagos for sale, then laid ambush for them. The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Ogaba aka Tablet, 45; Matthew Ogaba, 30; Fidelis Nelson aka MP, 41; Augustine Stanley, 31; Abayomi Adebisi, 42, and Emmanuel Olusegun, 37, were arrested in Lagos. Recovered from the suspects are one Toyota Camry car, one toy gun and various SIM cards. The gang leader, Nelson, said: “I am married with three kids. I am a professional driver. My wife doesn’t know that I am into robbery. “Since my colleagues are denying that none of them holds the toy gun during operations, I take responsibility for everything. I am the one that held the gun and drove at the same time during operations. “I was the one who introduced Augustine into the gang. I had plans that when I establish my church, he would head the musical department because he is a talented gospel artiste.” According to Augustine, the other suspect who is from Abia State, “I am a gospel artiste; I perform at crusades, weddings and other social events. “I met Nelson during a crusade programme. He told me that he loved my performance and that he would love to invest in my musical career. “Early this month, Nelson asked me to follow him to an operation so that I can actualise my dreams. I told him that I have never done that kind of thing. He convinced me.”

Nigeria vs Argentina: Rohr banks on ‘Lionel Musa’ to wreck Argentina

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is hoping Ahmed Musa will again step up to the plate in their deciding match against Argentina on Tuesday, but is quick to admit that the Super Eagles forward is no Lionel Messi … yet.

The Leicester City man proved the difference as Nigeria beat Iceland 2-0 at Volgograd Arena on Friday evening, scoring twice in the second half as his pace wreaked havoc for the defenders.

Iceland looked a lot more comfortable against Messi in their opening game, but Rohr has warned not to get carried away by Musa’s performance.

“Musa is not Lionel Messi yet,” the German told kicker. “Somebody said ‘Lionel Musa’ yesterday, but he’s not there yet. I hope he can do it one day.”

Rohr will need Musa firing on all cylinders in St Petersburg, and has warned that his players are in for a serious challenge as Argentina look to save face after a 3-0 humiliation against Croatia.

“Argentina have one more day to prepare. That’s an advantage for them,” he added. “But it could be the other way around because we have the psychological effect on our side because we came back from a defeat on the opening day.

“Most teams also lost the second match, but we turned it around. It wasn’t easy. The psychological advantage now is that we have a positive approach. And it’s the other way around for Argentina. We bank on that a bit.”

Messi more than most will be up for a shot at redemption, having come in for severe criticism for his two performances to date, but Rohr warns that focusing on just one player could lead to serious problems for the Super Eagles.

“He’s not the only key. If you look at the team, they have so many good players. You only have to look at where they are playing. Aguero and Otamendi at Manchester City. Higuain and Dybala at Juve and so it continues. Individually, Argentina are among the best teams in the world.

“They were unfortunate to miss that penalty against Iceland. Argentina are not only Messi, but he’s the most dangerous, that’s obvious. Moreover, he is a proud person and he does not want to go out.

“They will turn their disappointment into a good aggressiveness and motivation. And I must be careful after such a win. That glowing, I need to keep the lads grounded. Other than Mikel and Moses my players lack experience.”
So how does the coach rate his team’s chances of getting something from the game and knocking Argentina out?, “Fifty-fifty. A draw could already be enough, even though we are not allowed to play for a draw. We are not allowed to and we can’t do it. Not with Africans, and certainly not with our young team.”

Polular blogger and single mother to be Linda Ikeji took to instagram to reveal the first car she bought and the story behind it. She wrote "I bought this car in 2007. It cost 700k back then but I made a down payment of 350k to pay the remaining 3 months later. After 3 months, I'd been able to pay only 100k of the remaining 350k & the car owner came to my house one day to seize the car. Lol. I can laugh now but it wasn't funny back then. I remember my dad followed me to the man's house to beg for him to return it to me and give me more time. The man refused. So I was carless for about 2 months but because I knew how important having a car was to my business (I was always running around), I knew it was top priority to raise the balance.

I had a modeling agency back then and so I started going to bother all the ad agencies owing me money. I became a nuisance at their offices...lol. Before I'd wait for them to call and ask me to come collect my cheque but now, I wanted the money now now. Some managed to give me, some didn't but I was finally able to raise the 250k balance & got my car back.

Fast forward to 5 years later. From 2012 to 2018, I've probably bought about 15 cars for family, friends and staff. And none was 700k...lol.

Seeing this photo again brought back memories and reminded me of how God works. And how your life can change from not having enough to having so much, you can share with others.

All appears set for a fierce contest between incumbent National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Mai Mala Buni, and his main challenger, Kashim Imam, at today’s (Saturday) national convention of the party.

Saturday PUNCH gathered that the party’s governors had yet to agree on a consensus candidate for the position of the national secretary as of the time of sending this report at 7:07pm on Friday.

A top ranking member of the party, who spoke on condition of anonymity in order not to jeopardise ongoing negotiations, said governors and other party leaders had yet to reach an agreement on the matter.



The source said, “After the issue of the national chairman was settled amicably, the position of national secretary which is the engine room of the party’s administration, has become a tough nut to crack.

“The reason is simple; our governors and leaders from the South, especially the South- West and South- East, are more favourably disposed to the emergence of Kashim Imam.

“Our governors from the North-East and their colleagues from most states in the North-West are more favourably disposed to the retention of the current occupant of the position, Mai Mala Buni. Talks are still ongoing.”

Saturday PUNCH gathered that for the position of Deputy National Chairman (North), most, if not all northern governors, had endorsed the incumbent, Senator Lawali Shuaibu, to return and that barring any last minute change, he would be returned unopposed.



It was learnt that the main challenger, Faruk Adamu from Jigawa State, who is the campaign manager for former Governor Adams Oshiomole, was prevailed upon to step down.

When contacted, Shuiabu said, “When you have my kind of experience in politics and political party administration, you would always want to position yourself to give the best to make the party realise its objectives.

“Apart from serving for two terms as senator, I was also Senate minority leader. I was also national secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria.

“I was a member of merger committee that gave rise to the APC. I am not averse to anybody contesting with me, I believe in democracy and its norm. Inclusiveness must be encouraged.”



The contest for the three National Working Committee positions zoned to the South -East is also a source of concern for party leaders from the zone following the insistence of the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, on having his way.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that party leaders from the zone set up a five member-committee which included the Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu; the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu; and the Minister of Commerce, Okechukwu Enelamah, to meet with President Buhari over the issue.

Okechukwu confirmed the setting up of the team when Saturday PUNCH contacted him, saying, “It is true.”

He also said, “We would have met with the President by now but for some problems of logistics.”



The compromise being pursued is for the incumbent National Organising Secretary, Osita Izunaso, to step down for a neutral candidate.

Speaking about efforts being made to reduce the number of contestants, a member of the Media Subcommittee of the convention committee, Abike Dabiri-Erewa said, “As I speak with you, all the various parties are still meeting with the governors, with the leadership of the party and I believe, a few more people will be stepping down before tomorrow; the less cumbersome, the better for us, so that it won’t go for long hours.”

She explained that while the party encouraged consensus, it did not want a situation where there would be no election at all.”

South-East stakeholders reject “unity list”

The APC stakeholders from South-East have warned party leaders against imposing any candidate on them through the unity list.

The party members, who stormed the APC National Secretariat, in Abuja, on Friday, said should the party go ahead with the proposed unity list; it could spell doom for it in the 2019 elections.

Speaking on behalf of the four other APC state chairmen from the zone, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the party, Eze Nwachukwu Eze, described attempts by some party leaders to impose those who would represent the zone on them as “offensive.”

The party had earlier resolved to retain zoning arrangement of offices to each geopolitical zone.



The offices zoned to South-East include: Office of National Organising Secretary, National Auditor and National Vice Chairman, where Osita Izunaso, George Moghalu and Emma Enukwe are respectively current occupiers.

Eze said, “All zones, the six geopolitical zones have positions zoned to them. We don’t go to those other zones and dictate who is produced there.

“The position of national chairman, for example, was zoned to the South-South. We have people who are ably qualified to lead the party from the South-East, so, the concentration is to adopt people from your zone.

“We are made up of different people and ideas, but when a person leaves North-East, North-West or North-Central and dives into the positions of the South-East, it is offensive,” Eze said.

The South-East stakeholders urged Buhari to advise those who wanted to impose candidates on the region, adding that such a move could work against President’s re-election bid.

He said, “We are doing this not because of ourselves. You cannot disregard Jim Nwobodo, you can’t disregard Orji Uzor Kalu, Ogbonnaya Onu, Chris Ngige, Martin Elechi, Sullivan Chime, Andy Ubah, Ugbo Orji, Benjamin Uwajumogu and state chairmen, and these are great leaders.”

Other state chairmen from the South-East, who also expressed their displeasure at the event, were: Donatus Nwankpa (Abia), Ben Nwoye (Enugu) and Emeka Ibe (Anambra).

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party has alleged that the APC is organising its national convention with funds stolen from public coffers.

The National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement in Abuja on Friday, also said that it was sickening to note that the entire APC convention “is a celebration of corruption organised to crown dishonest and fraudulent individuals, who ordinarily should be guests at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission offices across the nation.”

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has said that President Muhammadu Buhari should be ashamed that he signed 2018 budget in June instead of blaming the National Assembly for performing its constitutional duties, asking “The previous budgets that he agreed with the National Assembly, what did he do with them? Where are the impacts of 2016 and 2017 budgets?”
The governor, who described those presenting the President as the only one who is right and knowledgeable about national issues as his greatest enemies, said; “In the mindset of President Buhari and his men, all Nigerians are wrong except him. That is the reason he feigned ignorance to the fact that the law did not say that the legislative arm of government must pass the budget as presented by the executive.”
In a statement issued, in Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “President Buhari has become what can be termed as blame specialist who will always blame his failure on other people. “As a military Head of State, he blamed former President Shehu Shagari’s government. Since he assumed office, he has been blaming his predecessor. “And now that he can’t get ordinary budget passed by the National Assembly for over six months, he is blaming the legislative arm. When is he going to be man enough to stop his blame game?”
Governor Fayose reminded the President of the 2016 ruling of Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja in which he declared that the National Assembly has the power to add, reduce, and review the budget. The judge said categorically that the National Assembly can increase, or review upward, budget estimates laid before it by the executive. Trying to use the National Assembly as scape goat for his failure is a disservice to the principle of separation of powers, checks and balances,” he said. Calling on the President to govern the country and stop blaming others for his inadequacies, Governor Fayose said; “The budgets that the National passed in 2016 and 2017, what did he do with them? What impact did the budgets make on the lives of Nigerians? “Why can’t the President just go ahead and implement what the National Assembly appropriated and present supplementary budget later instead of trying to label the legislative arm as the reasons for his government’s failure?”
The governor said Nigerians were tired of President Buhari’s repetitive speeches and unfulfilled promises, adding that “The masses want the president to create jobs and make life more abundant for them.“As at today, everything is wrong with Nigeria under President Buhari. The country is not secured as armed bandits and killer herdsmen have taken over everywhere. Nigerians are no longer free to move even within a State not to talk of from one State to another.
“Therefore, he should stop the blame game and get serious with governance so that Nigerians can at least attach one major achievement to his tenure as President.”
