The Presidency says the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) will not hold tomorrow June 20th.

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, in a statement today June 19th, said this was "due to the Eid-el-Fitr holidays last Friday and yesterday, which affected preparation of Council memoranda."

Adesina has also confirmed that President Buhari would sign the 2018 Appropriation Bill at noon tomorrow.

World Cup hosts Russia face an Egypt side buoyed by the likely return of star man Mohamed Salah on Tuesday knowing a win will all but guarantee a place in the last 16.
Liverpool wizard Salah missed his team’s defeat to Uruguay on Friday as he struggles to recover from the shoulder injury sustained during last month’s Champions League Final.
Salah’s shoulder has continued to cause him problems in Russia, and last weekend he needed the help of three team-mates to put a shirt on during a training session.
However the 26-year-old is desperate to start in what is a must-win game on Tuesday for the Pharoahs, who are playing in the World Cup for the first time since 1990.
Russia coach Stanislav Cherchesov was bullish ahead of the match in Saint Petersburg that his team can rein in the explosive striker.
“We know how to play against him,” he said. “We are ready to stop Salah and we will.”
Russia got the 2018 World Cup off to the perfect start Thursday with a 5-0 thrashing of Saudi Arabia, but are under no illusions that the seven-time African champions with Salah pose an altogether tougher test.
“Egypt’s game with Salah is different from the one they play without him,” forward Alexei Miranchuk said.
Salah, already a national hero after his 94th-minute penalty clinched a 2-1 win over Congo to send Egypt to their first World Cup since 1990, has been declared 100 percent fit by the team doctor.
Without Salah, Egypt lacked bite in their 1-0 opening loss to Uruguay.
But if fully fit, the sight of Salah, who scored 44 goals in a remarkable debut season at Liverpool, will strike fear into the Russians.

The Federal Government Thursday signed an agreement with an international tractor manufacturing firm to provide 10, 000 tractors for rural farmers in the country, The project will ensure effective delivery of the tractors to farmers in the 774 Local Governments through 2,500 Agricultural Equipment Hiring Enterprises (AEHE) to be established in the LGs. At the pact signing among the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), Nigerian Agricultural Mechanization and Equipment Leasing Company (NAMEL) and John Deere in Abuja, the Agriculture Minister, Chief Audu Ogbeh said for over 30 years, the federal government repeatedly made efforts to addressing mechanization challenge in the country which unfortunately failed and contributed adversely to development of the sector. Describing the initiative as first segment of the AIMS scheme, Ogbeh explained that the project will be closely monitored as farm inputs are being distributed across the local governments. He said the solution newly invented will help increase food production with expectation to realize 1 million tractors in 15 years. “We have invented something because I do not see any country in Africa that wants to grow its agriculture that can avoid adopting the method Tractors Owners and Hiring Facility Association of Nigeria (TOHFAN) have perfected in the last four years. Managing to rise from five tractors to almost 600 is a feat. If you want to know how difficult it is to own and operate a tractor, try and buy one,” Ogbeh said.
He applauded the farm equipment hiring associations for their ingenuity stressing need to improve on the relationship with John Deere. “In the next 15 years, we should be looking at something close to a million tractors in this country because dry season and irrigation agriculture has to grow. Not every farmer needs a tractor, not every farmer should or can afford a tractor and since the bulk of our farmers are small holders, they rely on the services you provide,” he added.
The minister appealed to the firm to consider establishing fabrication and assembling plants in the country adding that the country had renewed efforts to fix the local steel industry. He argued that the population of 450 million people in 30 years is a good market for the firm to explore.
The Managing Director in charge of Sub Saharan Africa for John Deere, Mr. Jason Brantley at the meeting disclosed plans by the firm to set up assembling plants in Nigeria and ensure technological transfer. Brantley said the Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement is expected to ensure easy deployment of high quality mechanized equipment to the farmers with support from the AEHE , Through smart campaign, the partnership according to him was to expand farmers’ access to farm machines in order to improve yields and make more money. “On access to financing, we will offer local currency financing under 10 per cent which is almost unheard of. The reliability and support is built into the machines so that they run – tractors don’t run or feed anybody, they have to run and it takes a significant investment we prepared to make that a reality.
“Every of these tractors will have hello tractor telematics solutions to enable efficient management, operation and maintenance. We have plans to train the operators and technicians. That’s what we are bringing to the table,” Brantley said. “It is part of this agreement; we will all establish assembling facility in Nigeria for John Deere equipment. Plans are on the way to do that is quickly as possible. So we will begin assembling all the tractors and implements. They will be put together by Nigerians in the country and we will be adding value. That creates a foundation we can continue to grow as the industry grows,” he added.

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambari, has intervened in the face-off between the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, and herdsmen who had vowed not to relocate from the university’s land. The emir has now resettled the cattle rearers.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sulyman AbdulKareem, had, at a meeting with the herdsmen in February, told the herders that, “enough is enough,” stressing that the institution can no longer condone the destructive activities of their grazing cattle on its land, “as this is becoming too costly for the institution to bear”.

However, Chairman, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, in Kwara State, Alhaji Usman Adamu, asked the government to prevail on the authorities of the university not to evict them from their settlement on the school’s grounds.

He contended that they had settled on the land before the university was established, hence it would be impossible for them to relocate.

Justice Zainab Bage Abubakar of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano today June 13, 2018 refused an application by a former governor of Kano State Malam Ibrahim Shekarau for the release of his international passport to enable him travel to Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj.

Shekarau approached the court with a motion on notice dated 28 May, 2018 praying the court to direct its Deputy Chief Registrar to release his International Passport to enable him travel to Saudi Arabia from May 30 to June 23, 2018 for lesser hajj.

In response to the motion, counsel for the respondent, Johnson Ojogbane filed a 9 paragraph counter affidavit opposing the motion. When the case came up today for hearing, counsel to Shekarau, Abdul Adamu moved his application and adopted the written address attached to the application in his argument.
Ojogbane on the other hand moved his 9 paragraph counter affidavit urging the court to refuse the application.
Justice Abubakar in her ruling held that "after due consideration of the motion of the defendant applicant and the counter affidavit of the respondent I deem it unnecessary to release the passport of the defendant applicant as it is one of the conditions in the grant of his bail". She subsequently refused and dismissed the application for lack of merit.
Shekarau was arraigned by the EFCC alongside two others, Aminu Bashir Wali and one Mansur Ahmed for allegedly conniving to collect the sum of N950,000,000 part of the $115,000,000 allegedly distributed by the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Deizani Alison-Madueke for the purpose of compromising the2015 general election.

The U.S. Federal authorities have arrested no fewer than 34 Nigerians for allegedly defrauding businesses and U.S. citizens of several millions of dollars, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said. FBI said in a statement that the fraud was a significant coordinated effort to disrupt Business Email Compromise (BEC) schemes that were designed to intercept and hijack wire transfers from businesses and individuals, including many senior citizens.
said a counter effort, ‘Operation Wire Wire’, a coordinated law enforcement effort by the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, was conducted over a six month period. “The operation culminated in over two weeks of intensified law enforcement activity resulting in 74 arrests in the United States and overseas, including 29 in Nigeria, and three in Canada, Mauritius and Poland. “The operation also resulted in the seizure of nearly $2.4 million, and the disruption and recovery of approximately $14 million in fraudulent wire transfers,” FBI said.

Barring any last-minute change, President MuhammaduBuhari will Wednesday sign the 2018 Appropriation Bill into law, THISDAY learnt Tuesday.
In fact, but for the June 12 activities, including the investiture of late Chief Moshood Abiola, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe and late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, the president would have signed the bill Tuesday, to bring to a close several months of delay in the promulgation of the
nation's financial estimates, an impeccable presidency official told THISDAY.

The president had last November laid the 2018 Appropriation Bill before a joint session of the National Assembly. However, it was not until May 16 (six months after), that the National Assembly passed the bill. Afterward, it took them another 10 days to transmit it to the president.

Former military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, and Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo were absent on Tuesday as the Federal Government conferred national honours on Chief MKO Abiola and others.
Also absent at the investiture was Humphrey Nwosu, the Chairman of the country’s electoral body – the National Electoral Commission, at the time of the 1993 elections.
All three of them, however, sent messages to the investiture which took place in Abuja to apologise for being unable to attend the programme.
Chief Obasanjo and Nwosu explained that their absence was due to the fact that they are away from the country.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, informed the gathering about their absence and the reasons for it.

A man and his landlady got stuck in each other while having sex, after the man's wife, who suspected her husband of infidelity, sought the services of a native doctor. The pair were carrying out the clandestine affair in a room in Baraka hotel, Kitale, Kenya on Friday, 8 June 2018, when things took a mysterious turn. They were soon heard shouting from the locked hotel room and begging for help and when the management of the hotel opened the door, they saw the couple stuck. After the management of the hotel found the co-joined bodies, they contacted the police who arrived the scene and took the pair to the police station after which they invited the man's wife.
According to reports, the man is a businessman whose wife hails from Lodwar. The wife reportedly informed the police that she noticed her landlady went missing every time he went to Kitale for business appointments. She became suspicious and confronted her husband but he denied it. As a last resort, the wife sought the help of a witch doctor who cast a spell on her husband.
