Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday in his ruling granting the application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), said the court was entitled to proceed with the criminal trial of a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisah Metuh, Considering the defendant's previous attempts to frustrate the trial and his conduct after he fell in court on Monday.
He therefore fixed Thursday for the continuation of the trial. He ruled that Metuh's absence from court on Tuesday and also Wednesday without any Reasonable explanation to justify it amounted to a violation of the bail granted him. The judge ruled, "The application by persecution deserves to succeed."The trial shall proceed in the absence of the defendant.
Metuh, Who with his Company, Destra Investment Limited, Is being prosecuted by the EFCC for the N400m he allegedly received fraudulent from the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014, Fell after taking some steps towards the dock on Monday.

This season was just the departure of Greats. From Yaya Toure to Fernando Torres to Gianluigi Buffon to Andres Iniesta.

I swear, Buffon's own was the most painful. A club he had given almost his entire footballing career, now he just has to leave them. The scenes in Turin were almost heart breaking.

One of Barcelona's greatest of all time Andres Iniesta stayed behind at Camp Nou after farewell ceremony given to him.it was said that the Iconic midfielder remained in the field until the early hours of the next day.- Iniesta made Lopetegui's squad for the World Cup in Russia, it is said to be his last world for his national side.
The Spanish international played his last game for the club in the 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Sunday at the Nou Camp. The fans and the supporters were filled with tears on the final day.

The 34-year-old who has played over 600 matches in 22 years at the club, held back tears as he made his way off the pitch late on as the fans gave him a standing ovation. Iniesta was later given a guard of honour by the entire team and addressed the crowd after the match as the emotional farewell ceremony continued. It was reported that Iniesta stayed behind on the pitch that he has graced for so many years as his teammates and supporters made their way home.

The trial of the former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Olisa Metuh which held yesterday at the Abuja division of the Federal High Court yesterday didnt end well (see here),the trial commenced today and Mr Olisa Metuh was absent in court.

Counsel to his company, Destra Investment which is also on trial asked the court for an adjournment because Mr Metuh is receiving treatment at the hospital but the prosecutor, Mr Sylvania Tahir disagreed. In his response the prosecutor said the court was not notified on what transpired after the defendant was taken to the hospital, especially because the court did not invite the medical personnel who attended to the defendant and as a result of that Mr Metuh is not entitled to enjoy the benefits of section 266 of ACJA.

According to him, it should not be assumed that the court or the prosecution knows the state of the accused person as there is no medical report before the court explaining the absence of the defendant in this case. He pointed out complete disregard and disobedience to the authority of the court and the judiciary by the defendant.
Mr Sylvania Tahir said that there is no reasonable explanation for the absence of the defendant so the defendant is not entitled to enjoy the benefits of section 266 of ACJA. He urged the court to invoke the subsection A of the said act to take the conduct of the accused yesterday and continuance today as misconduct, and proceed with the trial in his absence.

"Going on with the trial in the absence of Mr Olisah Metuh will not amount to the violation of the right to fair hearing as submitted by counsel, a defendant cannot hold the court to ransom by doing things or taking steps deliberately intended to scuttle or frustrate the fair trial of a case" he said.
