lolanews: By Lola Seriki-Idahosa, Kaduna, NorthWest, Nigeria…. There were chants of oyoyo amidst great jubilation as Senator representing Kaduna North Zone, Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi stormed the Kaduna State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat.
Hunkuyi, accompanied by several former APC members and Federal law makers who decamped the party with him, stormed the Secretariat.
He arrived at exactly 2:30pm and was immediately ushered into the office of the Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Honourable Felix Hassan Hyet for a brief meeting, before storming the hall, were thousands of supporters were waiting for his address.
While addressing party faithful and supporters, Senator Hunkuyi said he has left the APC for good and now a member of the PDP.
He said one of the reasons of the visit was to exchange pleasantries with members of the PDP.
“Mr. Chairman, We have left the APC whoever is on our property, we leave it with them.
“We are appealing and will arrange a date along with you for a formal reception, so we can tell Nigerians that APC in Nigeria is now finished.
“We want Mr Chairman, that we hold a function to show that APC has lost and God has strengthened PDP that its two hands have become four.
“We would show the world that I am with you completely.
“The third reason we are here is to appeal for a committee to be set up for the grand reception before the party’s primaries,” he added.
Speaking further on why he was visiting, Senator Hunkuyi said that the grand reception was important and would send clear signals to the ruling APC.
“On a serious note, we are back to PDP. We know where we came from and by God’s grace we would collect power from them.
“Mr Chairman we see PDP as an alternative to provide solution. We are not here to joke. “We pray God keeps us to the day of the reception”.
“We need to portray a hand writing on the wall during the reception that APC has finally been brought down in Kaduna State,” he said.
In his remarks, the Chairman PDP Kaduna State, Honourable Felix Hassan Hyet said that without Hunkuyi, Governor Nasir el-Rufai would not have been able to pick even a ticket for a local government chairman.
Hyet who was visibly excited, said that Hunkuyi was a founding father of PDP in the state.
“Under your watch, his repressive regime in Kaduna brought untold hardship.
“We thank God you realized and came back and together with your people to the house you helped in building.
“Only yesterday, El-Rufai was castigating 16 years of PDP. Under PDP, he was minister for four years, he was DG BPE.
“On the issue of defection, we welcome you, we want people like you that are bulldozers, what else do we need?” He asked rhetorically.

The twenty-three PDP members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have promised their continued commitment and support to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and governor Ayodele Fayose.
The members who were led by the speaker of the house, pastor Kola Oluwawole on a solidarity visit to the governor on Friday in Ado Ekiti announced this while addressing newsmen.
Speaking on behalf of the assembly members, Dr. Samuel Omotoso who represents Oye Constituency 1, said they were at the government house to intimate the governor that they remain solidly behind him and the party against all odds.
He maintained that the courtesy call was also to register their displeasure over the perceived irregularities that characterized the recently conducted governorship election in the state and to condemned the purported plan to influence the members to impeach governor Fayose.
Dr. Omotosho pointed out that the members were not in any way at war with the incoming administration in the state but that they would refuse every attempt to use them against the sitting governor.

Politics › Re: Offa Robbery: Court Summons IG Of Police Idris by Ingocof(m): 4:07pm On Jul 27, 2018 |
Ayazor54: An Ilorin High Court has summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to appear before it next Wednesday to justify the continued detention of Lekan Alabi, Personal Assistant to Kwara state Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed, who was arrested over the April 5, 2018 armed robbery in Offa.
This followed protest by lead counsel to the suspect, Adelodun Ibrahim, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
He bemoaned the failure of the police to release another suspect over the same incident, Alhaji Babatunde AbdulWahab, the Chief of Staff to the governor, who has been granted bail by another high court in the state.
Adelodun, leading four other lawyers, told newsmen after Thursday’s proceeding that the refusal of the police to obey the court order on AbdulWahab was worrisome as it portends grave dangers to the deepening of democracy and might lead to a loss of confidence in the fairness of the police to handle such cases among the populace.
The police was not represented at the proceeding although Adelodun told the court they had been served all the processes relating to the case. The case was brought to Ilorin following the refusal of a Federal High court in Abuja to hear it as the alleged crime was committed in Kwara state.
Alabi has been in detention since May 28, 2018 and has not been arraigned before any court of law, a development his counsel, Adelodun, argued is in contravention of the provisions of Order 4, Rules 3 and 4 of the Fundamental Rights enforcement procedure rules (2009) as well as Sections 34, 35, 36, 37, 41 And 46 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In his ruling, Justice Adebayo Yusuf said there was nothing in the constitution that allows the detention of a suspect without trial for a period beyond 24 hours where there is a court or 48 hours in environment where there is no court.
“The position of the law is as stated by the leaned silk, however I’m inclined to hear from the respondent to come to court and show cause why the applicant should not be released from their custody, since they have been served the motion on notice,” the judge said, adding that it is clear that the police cannot change the constitution.
Adelodun, had while moving the application, pointed out that the detention of the applicant for 60 days without trial is a prima facie case of a breach of his rights to liberty as enshrined in section 35 (7) of the constitution and pointed out that Section 122 of the Evidence Act empowers the court to take judicial notice of the time involved in the exchange of written addresses and affidavit by parties which can compound the suffering of the applicant.
“We are not asking the court to declare our client guilty or innocent at this stage but the police has no right to keep a suspect forever”, he said citing the decision of the Appeal Court in the case of EFCC vs Akingbola, (2015 NWLR p1470,pgh249,pp290) to buttress his submission,” Adelodun said.
