To me, that is what we should be complaining about because it creates negative stereotypes about blacks.[/quote]Hmmm, I've thought about the whole Tyler Perry thing for some time and I'm still trying to make up my mind on that one. Initially when I heard about Perry and his character's, I was assumed but somewhat put off by it. I first heard about Perry when I was in school before he hit it big and I had no idea who he was but I'd hear all my friends talking about him and his plays. When I finally realized who he was and what he did I was somewhat intrigued. It was indeed entertaining but I often wondered what sort of effect his plays would have on the African American community. Although some of the characters are indeed a reflection of certain things within African American culture/community, its still seems like Perry is upholding certain stereotypes, But I do see where you are going with your question. I too have wondered why some black people get upset over some semi-minuscule issues and don't make an issue out of things that are blatantly racist. Hmmmm, I feel like I'm rambling all over the place with my response. . . Sorry, its late and I'm sleep deprived grin

A white lady or man might just call you a monkey necessarily not because he thinks so, but because he knows it will hurt you and he wants to get at you, annoy you, incite you.

IMO, you are a monkey if you indeed go everywhere crying and lamenting about it.

No offense but anyone with half a brain will see that this "racist stuff" isn't made up to get people in a frenzy. Yes, people can say things to get people riled up but it doesn't mean that their not racist. What it sounded like you were satin is that it's a publicity stunt--that I could agree with. I'm quite sure she [Beyoncé] had purposely involved herself in certain situations just for the sake of publicity.

. Here's a tip I give students when they ask me when they think they're ready: You'll know you're ready when you stop asking yourself if you're ready. When the times comes they'll be no need to question or second guess yourself because you will feel it emotionally. Its a very personal and intimate feeling and when they time comes you'll know.
