Truth be told, I saw this stuff on fb oo, I didn't even know it was edited until I traced it to MS in US by Ajah Cherukuri, after justwise had indirectly accused me of plagiarism. It was out of love I shared. I pledge to censor materials before sharing from now hence forth. Thanks!

It's not from me sir! I got it online Nd I thought I shld share, however, I'm not blind to the conditions of plagiarism, I'm yet to get the reference. Also, reading through properly, it does not in anyway make me a VO. I'm still tracing the article to its source and will do the needful. Every day in Lagos, eight or nine officers interview hundreds of people seeking visas to the United States. Because we try to serve as many applicants as we can, the interviews are quite short -- only two to three minutes. A lot of the information that we need is already there in your application, but we like to hear from you, personally, about your travel plans. Sometimes, visa applicants bring stacks of documents, and they seem disappointed when we do not look at all that paperwork. But the idea of a personal interview is to speak with you face-to-face -- not to examine documents.

Our job is to uphold the law. Sometimes that means denying a visa. If you apply for a tourist visa, but we get the idea from the interview that you are really going to work at your uncle's pizza shop, then we will not issue the visa. Students who only apply to one school and cannot explain their choice are also unlikely to be granted a visa. It is important that your intentions match your visa category.

Many visa applicants pay consultants to prepare their applications. Although some consultants might provide helpful information, many do not. Remember that you alone are responsible for the accuracy of the information in your application. False information on the application or fake document packages could result in permanent ineligibility.

If you are a student, we expect you to be credible and qualified. You should be prepared to talk about why you chose the university that you plan to attend, and you should be able to explain how you will pay for your studies. It should be easy for us to believe that you will finish the degree at the institution you have selected, and we must be convinced that full-time study is the primary purpose of your travel.

It is best to apply early, but not before you have heard from your first-choice school. (Your visa will be annotated with the name of the school listed on your I-20 form at the time of your interview.) You can apply for a visa up to 120 days before your program is scheduled to begin. However, you may not enter the U.S. more than 30 days before the report date for your course. If you are applying for graduate work, be sure to apply as early as you can, as sometimes administrative processing is required that might delay the issuance of your visa.

Nearly 104,000 Nigerians are currently studying in the United States. Like you, they were nervous when they faced the American visa officer behind the glass. The situation, admittedly, does not put one at ease. However, if you know yourself to be a credible, qualified student, then you should have nothing to worry about. Take a deep breath, relax, and remember that the person behind the glass is there to help you. We are regular people too -- just like you.

Thank you, Innovativeme. I only submitted my Gre and Toefl score sheets when she asked me to. But for the number of schools, I think I just went ahead to call the names of schools. I even faltered when I was calling the names of the school. Then I have to call it again. Thanks, man! I guessed having premeditated answers immediately I'm being asked some questions without hesitating made me look desperate.
I'm glad you realised your mistake, you are now a step ahead. You will get by God's grace. Safe bro!

Interview at Lagos Embassy @ 6:30am

Me: Goodmorning!
V.O: Why do u want to go to US
Me: I want to study for Master's in Chemical Engineering at the University of Dayton.
V.0:Why University of Dayton?
Me: there is a on going research made by prof Michael Elass on dynamics modelling and simulation of chemical plant which happened to align with my area of research interest during my extensive research.
V.0: How long is your program?
Me: 24 months. Ending by May, 17 2017.
V.0: Which year did you graduate?
Me: I graduated 2011
V.0: How many schools did u apply to?
Me: Lamar University...
Me: University of Dayton, University of Connecticut and Lamar University.
V.0: Did you write any Standardized tests?
Me: I did Toefl and Gre. I submitted both. Gre's score was 296 and Toefl's score was 85
V.0: where do you work?
Me: I work as a customer care agent in Globacom
V.0: What do you do?
Me: I attend to customers issues and complaints.
V.0: How much do you earn?
Me: I earn 83K per month
V.0: Who is sponsoring you?
Me: My dad.
V.0: what does he do?
Me: he is into estate management and construction.
V.0: I'm sorry but I won't be issuing you Visa and she gave me 214b form.

Sorry about the delay. A few observations; about three lines of response indicated desperation-
1. How many schools did you apply to? You shld have mentioned the figures and not list, except you were asked to do so, because in some cases, names of school we list can be another impediment, although, this happens seldomly.
2. Did you write any Standardized test? You shld have said just Yes and then state the kind of test and not to tender the report until you are asked to do so.
Rebrand yourself and refire, that small paper is yours.
All the best!

it's been said that those going to Colleges are usually denied... well I doubt it... if you are going for Graduate studies... it's often a good one...

it's been said that most times people in their first time are usually denied... well I doubt...

All these applies to myself...

Hello Nairalanders, I initially applied for the accelerated nursing program in Illinois state university but then some people advised me to change to another course because VOs don't normally grant visas to people going to study nursing so I changed to health information management but I already have a degree in cell biology and genetics(university of lagos) and now I'm hearing that they don't usually issue visas to second degree applicants, my interview is on may 26th, 2015...I'm a little confused...should I tell the vos I'm going for a second degree or a forget that I have a prior BSc and just say I'm going for a first degree instead? Thank you
I join my faith with yours, you shall be granted that favour IJN. BTW, Illinois state university is my school, I've been waiting for ages to see who will head in that direction. Now I've found you. Pls pm me, lemme share a thought or two with you. Besides that, be confident say it the way it is, look into the VO'S eyes, no mannerism and let the VO see reasons why you have chosen Illinois state university or other schools. You will testify here, by God's grace. See you at the top.
NB: your allegations about "VOs don't normally grant visas to people going to study nursing" and "I'm hearing that they don't usually issue visas to second degree applicants are not true. This where you make it more interesting and fun. Make the VO understand that you just discover your passion for nursing after studying cell biology. There is a positive correlation between cell biology and Nursing. Studying cell biology gave u an insight to what more you can do with the entire human system. Be creative and make the VO palpitate, instead of you. Goodluck

Good morning my people am back again I got admitted to a school in California which my resumption date is 13july, my problem now is that the school hasn't sent me mt I-20 and they are already telling me that my school fee is due by June 1. Is it advisable to pay the fee even when I haven't gotten visa?
Issuance of I-20 isn't a function of tuition payment. Encourage them to send you the I-20, apply for your visa on time, possibly before Ending of May. The outcome of you visa application should guide you on whether to go ahead with the tuition payment or not. I will implore you not to pay the tuition until you are able to secure your visa except the school will reimburse you if the visa does not click on time. The embassy does not even encourage school fee payment before applying for visa.

Please why will someone go to the embassy with landed property documents and how can you present such case?
The truth is, you can't only envisage the basic questions from the VO, your response might give rise to another question that might demand evidence to substantiate your claims. Don't quote me wrong, it's not compulsory , however, if it comes handy, it's never out of place. Remember in my post, it was a suggestion.
I could remember, during my interview, I left there almost without presenting any document but my last response prompted the VO to request for my GRE score sheet. For Canadian embassy, it is almost compulsory.

What documents should I take alongside my confirmation, passport, I-20 and SEVIS payment receipt?

Need your kind responses...
In addition to the one stated above, carrying the documents below won't hurt;
You degree certificate/transcript (student copy)
Statement of Account
Standardised test reports ( Toefl or/and GRE)
5cm×5cm passport photograph (very important)
Any other documents that will support your case, like landed properties document and similar documents.
May God grant you this favour in May!
