I woke this morning with red - eyes. Thanks to the taxi driver who gave me a call at exactly 4:03 am. Otherwise, it would have been another story. I arrived the consulate at 5:30 am. The crowd was not as I expected. I became uptight and nervous, in the quest to calm my nervousness, I was asking babes and blokes if they are on Nairaland but their responses were negative, I couldn't believe I had no brother from the thread . Furthermore, I had to run a brief interview with those blokes, in another sad moment, their responses were against what my coaches here have been stating, before a bad company corrupts a good habit, I had to refrain from all form of communication. On the other hand, I kept my mouth opened so that it won't stink when I'll be chatting with the VO. After all the checks and drama, the adjudication process began with 1st 3 folks facing rejection. I was still keeping my cool, still ruminating on the words of the elders on NL (confidence is key). Here comes my turn at Window 7 with a white lady in her late 20s or very early 30s. She's rejected 5 persons and approved 2 before me. I was trying to use my Mathematics mind to compute the sequence and possibly derive a formula for approval or denial but my sequence was not convergent. I walked close to the counter where my number was displayed, this is what transpired; Me: hey !how is it going? VO: very well VO: You are going to Illinois state University? Me: Exactly VO : When did u graduate Me:2012 VO: where did u school? Me: University of Lagos VO: what Degree? Me: Bachelor of science in Education VO : How did u choose this school? Me: I did a comprehensive research online by cataloging using Princetonreview.Com, usnews.com and stateuniversity.com. VO: Did you apply to other schools Me: yes I did Vo:: hmm mm, ok Me: North Carolina A $ T state university, Arizona state University and SIUE VO: What will this degree do for you? ME: When I return to NIGERIA, I'll take over my uncle's Science college VO : Science college? (With a chuckle) Me: (smiling sheepishly ) VO: Did u take GRE ME: yes I did Vo: can I have your test report? Me: sure (gave it to her with a a smile) V O: who is your sponsor? Me: My mum is my main sponsor but my uncle will be supporting (still staring at her while she nodded) VO: she gave me a white paper me : was still staring with ambivalent feelings VO: pick up your visa on Friday in VI Me: Thank you! Recommendations; 1. Pray enough because men who kneel before God can can stand before men. 2. Make ur response simple until u are asked to expatiate by the VO 3. Maintain eye contact until u hear the golden remark. 4. Don't be scared when u see other persons being denied, that could trigger some funny hormones in ur system. Appreciation: God uses people to bless us, I will be such an ingrate if I do not mention few names who were part of this race. Thanks to slimmy05, my brother,my chief editor, special adviser on standardized test issues, I can't forget Bigfrancis for taking time out to help even when it is not comfortable, Oga Walspring -general commentator, Prof ImPeriouxx ,adviser on public matters . My boat rocks today becos of everyone on this thread. I've learnt from people's approval and rejection, the comments, hilarious comments and all the saga. *trust me, I was literally flying while walking out of the consulate, I trekked from the consulate to Obalende without the knowledge of it* |

Briz: Good day all, It was a sad day for me at the US Embassy at the nation's capital, Abuja on Dec. 3. I Prayed wella fah, and went with some good level of confidence. For my mind, their father, they will give me this visa today cos my siblings and parents have been given at one time or the other without denial.
1st Time Appearance and I was denied my F-1 Visa.
Interview:
Me - Good morning ma, VO - Gm VO - What are you going to do in the US Me - I'm going to study for my masters degree in business admin so that on completion i'll return to take full control of the family business after acquiring adequate business skills. VO - What did you study for Undergraduate degree? Me - Bsc. Computer Science VO - Why did I choose my Uni - California Intl. Bus. University Me - Because the Uni is solely devoted to business VO - (She cuts in) but there are other Unis that are solely devoted to business Me - (I cut in) and also has low tuition fees compared to other of such unis VO - (she nods her head) ( and she's been typing most of the time) (i can't remember at what time she stops to attend to me and point she types) (she's been smiling and i've also been smiling along) VO - She asked for my Gre Me - My school does not require a GRE VO- How much does the family business make Me - Told her about 100k every month VO - Can I have your statement of account? Me - I gave it to her - (account has an almost 100m naira fixed deposit but my uncle's law firm) VO - Who is my Sponsor? Me - My Dad VO - What does he do? Me - He's a lawyer (pause) and owns the law firm VO - sorry, we can not give you a visa at this time ( then hands me over a document that gives reasons why i was denied) Me - in my mind as i collected the document ( why una like to dey Bleep up like this )
Meanwhile when it was my turn, she ( window 8 ) called for next, the window 7 lady called almost immediately, if i had known i would have just changed movement to the window 7 lady. i only went to window 8 cos she granted the applicant before me visa.
Pls house, i don't know my offense o. Really don't know why she denied me. The school resumes 5th January 2015. Don't know what i have to correct if i have to go for another visa interview before the school resumes.
Please i need your advise. URGENT!
Thanks. At bold, I think you provided more answers than what the VO asked. You were kind of agitated. Most times those guys frown at responses they didn't request for. I think overall your response was ok but desperation could still be seen in ur transcript. Refire and possess your possession. |

ferdimako: is daft a noun? Daft is an adjective, sir, but anger can transform any word to any part of speech that suits itself. That was why it was written in capital letters to show that it is a Proper Noun #DAFT#. It could actually be the name of a person though. |

owoleo: . It's Masters in Communications In this case you need a strong SOP and irresistible LOR. In my case it was the SOP that served as a hook, as a communicator I know u can do better than me. However, you shouldn't totally rely on your prowess, write and give to others ahead of you in ur field to proofread and contribute. ISU is ok (No advert oo, justwise must not know that I'm advertising ooo ) |
