Operatives of the Special Anti - Robbery Squad , (SARS ) of the Lagos State police command have arrested a sales boy , who allegedly stole his boss ’ Sienna bus from his Magodo residence. Two accomplices were arrested alongside the 28 - year - old suspect, Austin Akan . It was gathered that Akan visited his boss’ home last Thursday , where he deceived one of the domestic workers that his boss instructed him to bring the vehicle. He however , took the car to one of his friend’ s place in Oshodi , where it was kept pending when they would get a ready buyer. But the bubble burst after his boss lodged a complaint at SARS , where detectives swung into action and a team of operatives led by Aduroja Akinola , a Deputy Superintendent of Police , apprehended Akan in his hideout. The vehicle was traced to where it was parked. During investigation , Akan disclosed that his intention was to sell the stolen vehicle and travel out of the country. Speaking with The Guardian , the Akwa Ibom State - born suspect said : “Hardship made me do it. I could not conclude my Ordinary National Diploma course from the Lagos State Polytechnic because of poverty . Since then ( 2015 ) , there had been no job . I started running errands for my boss (names withheld ) . At a point, I decided to steal one of his cars and use the proceeds to travel . “My intention was to sell the car for N 2 . 5 million and travel to Europe , work and return the money back to my boss and also beg for forgiveness . I had already made plans for the journey; an agent told me he could help me get a visa to Dubai for N 600 ,000. I thought of getting that first if I sold the car , from Dubai , I would proceed to Europe . ” One of his alleged partners in crime , Obinna Ejike, 31 , said : “ I have known Austine for a long time . He came to me and said he was looking for where he would park the car pending when he would get a ready buyer . He told me he stole the car from his boss. He said if he succeeded , he would pay his boss by December. I contacted Emeka, ( pointing at the third suspect ) who told me there was a space in his street at Adijat Lawal , Bisam , Oshodi . That was where the car was kept until I was arrested ,” the commercial tri- cyclist said . However on his part , Emeka Jeffrey , who admitted to have provided a space in his street where the stolen vehicle was parked said he was ignorant of the circumstances surrounding the car , a claim that was corroborated by Ejike . The father of two said : “I didn ’t know that the vehicle was stolen . Ejike only told me they were looking for where it would be parked pending when its owner would come to pick it. It was after I was arrested that I got to know that it was stolen . ” https://m.guardian.ng/news/i-stole-my-boss-car-to-travel-to-europe/ |
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday withdrew its motion seeking an order of the Federal High Court in Abuja allowing it to serve the recall petition on Kogi West Senator , Dino Melaye, through substituted means rather than personal service . Justice Nnamdi Dimgba struck out the motion after INEC’s lawyer, Mr. Yunus Ustaz ( SAN ), announced its withdrawal in court on Thursday . The judge also directed that all issues pertaining to the case should thereafter be taken to the Court of Appeal . He noted that since Melaye’s appeal against the court ’s September 11 judgment of the court had been entered at the Court of Appeal, all pending applications , including the ones filed by Melaye for stay of execution of the verdict, should be taken to the Court of Appeal. INEC had on September 15 , filed the ex parte motion seeking substituted service of the recall petition on Melaye, following alleged refusal of senator to accept service of the petition and other accompanying documents as earlier ordered by the court on September 11 . Ustaz also maintained on Thursday that Melaye had been “ dodging ” service , as an attempt by the INEC to serve Melaye during the Senate ’s plenary on Tuesday also failed . The INEC’s lawyer had earlier, on Thursday , urged Justice Dimgba to hear the ex parte motion , but Melaye’ s counsel , Mr . Nkem Okoro, had opposed the hearing on the grounds that the court no longer had jurisdiction to hear any application concerning the case since his client ’s appeal against the September 11 judgment of the court had been “entered ” at the Court of Appeal. But the INEC’s lawyer later , in the course of the proceedings, withdrew the motion after the judge raised some questions about the propriety of the ex parte motion filed after the court had finally disposed of the case by delivering judgment on September 11 . Justice Dimgba had noted that Order 6 of the Federal High Court Rules under which INEC filed the ex parte motion presupposed that there was a pending case . The judge explained that the judgment having been delivered in the case filing an ex parte motion was not the appropriate means for enforcement of the judgment . Ustaz agreed with the judge and withdrew the motion . It was then struck out by the judge . Justice Dimgba had in his judgment delivered on September 11 dismissed Melaye’s suit challenging the validity of the recall process , but made it a pre-condition for the exercise to commence that the electoral body must serve the senator with the recall petition and accompanying documents, including the signatures of the constituents calling for his ( Melaye’s ) recall . http://punchng.com/breaking-melayes-recall-battle-shifts-to-acourt-as-inec-withdraws-motion-for-substituted-service/ |

Two out of the five men being prosecuted by the Federal Government for unlawful importation of 661 pump -action rifles into the country have indicated their intention to enter into plea bargain with the prosecution . The defendants – Mahmud Hassan, Oscar Okafor, Donatus Achinulo , Matthew Okoye , said to be at large, and Salihu Danjuma – had been arraigned by the Attorney General of the Federation on June 14 before the Federal High Court in Lagos. However, at the resumed proceedings on Monday , the second and third defendants, Oscar Okafor and Donatus Achinulo , respectively , who had changed their lawyers , indicated their intentions to change their plea from not guilty to guilty. The application was made orally on behalf of Okafor by Mr. Rotimi Jacobs ( SAN ), his new lawyer, and on behalf of Achinulo by Mr . Paul Ananaba ( SAN ) . However, the judge directed the defendants to notify the AGF of their intention . The matter was subsequently adjourned till September 26 . |

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said he would have his son killed if accusations of drug trafficking against him proved true , and that he also would protect the police who would kill his son from prosecution , The Guardian says . Duterte ’s son , Paolo Duterte , denied trafficking allegations made against him in front of a senate inquiry earlier this month. The younger Duterte reportedly has been accused of being a member of a Chinese triad gang and assisting in the smuggling of a large shipment of crystal methamphetamine from China . During last year ’s election race , Rodrigo Duterte – who took office in June 2016 and has initiated a violent war against drug use in the country – said none of his children was involved with drugs, but that if they were , they would face severe punishment. He reiterated that stance this week during a speech in Manila . “ If I have children who are into drugs, kill them so people will not have anything to say ,” Duterte said Wednesday , according to The Guardian. “ So I told ( Paolo) : ‘My order is to kill you if you are caught . And I will protect the police who kill you, if it is true .'” Philippine authorities have reported the deaths of more than 3 ,800 people in connection with anti- drug operations since July of last year. Thousands of other killings have reportedly occurred as well . Protesters both for and against Duterte held rallies in the Philippines on Thursday . Supporters see the president as their best chance for change and a leader concerned about ordinary people, Reuters reports ; while opponents see him as a reminder of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. http://punchng.com/kill-my-son-if-hes-involved-with-drugs-president-duterte-orders-police/ |
A former high school Art teacher has been accused of having inappropriate relationships with four students and reportedly took two to her apartment for sex on the same day. Jessie Lorene Goline , 25 , of Jonesboro was arrested on Wednesday and faces one count of first- degree sexual assault , Arkansasonline reported , Goline admitted to school officials that she had inappropriate sexual relationships with four students . She believed one was 18 at the time but later found him to be “ way younger than what he had told her,” the affidavit states . The reported acts happened between January and April of 2016, authorities said . One student was dropped off by a friend at Goline’s residence in Jonesboro , where the two had sexual intercourse , he said . Another student , enrolled in Goline’ s class, said the teacher picked him up one afternoon and took him to her apartment , where they had sex before she took him back home in the day . Authorities said they learned that Goline had sex that same day with another student she had taken to her apartment . The fourth victim was interviewed at Marked Tree High School and told an investigator that Goline commented on “ how good he looked in class. ” The teacher also reportedly sent the student a photo of herself wearing thong underwear . An investigation began in April when Marked Tree High School officials learned that a concerned parent had threatened to “ do bodily harm to one of their teachers . ” The parent had accused Goline of having sex with multiple students. While school officials were trying to report the accusations to a hotline , Goline came into an administrative office and started crying , prompting the high school ’s principal , Matt Wright , to ask what was wrong. Goline reportedly only shook her head and replied “ no , no ” several times . Records show Goline was released at 3 : 04 pm on Wednesday from the Craighead County jail after being booked there at 1 : 50 pm . http://punchng.com/school-teacher-accused-of-having-sex-with-four-students/ |

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, on Monday evening, denied the reports that the military ever tagged the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, a terrorist organisation. He said rather, what the army did was to make a pronouncement on IPOB which, according to him, was not “a declaration per se.” He said what the federal government is doing regarding the group is the right thing. Recall that few hours ago, the President of the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki had condemned the tagging of IPOB as terrorist organisation, saying it was unconstitutional. Saraki had also faulted the South-East governors for proscribing the activities of IPOB in the region. Recall that army’s Director of Defence Information, Major General John Enenche, had pronounced that IPOB was a terrorist organisation after a reported clash between military personnel and IPOB members in Umuahia, Abia state. Enenche had, during the pronouncement, given the following reasons for tagging IPOB a terrorist organisation; According to him, ““After due professional analysis and recent developments, it has become expedient to notify the general public that the claim by IPOB actors that the organisation is non-violent is not true. “Hence, the need to bring to public awareness the true and current state of IPOB. “In this regard, some of their actions, clandestinely and actively, that have been terrorising the general public include: “The formation of a Biafra Secret Service, claimed formation of Biafra National Guard, unauthorised blocking of public access roads and extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks. “Militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles, among others) on a military patrol on Sept. 10, 2017. “Physical confrontation of troops by Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB actors at a check point on Sept. 11, 2017 and also attempt to snatch their rifles. “Attack by IPOB members on a military check point on Sept. 12, 2017, at Isialangwa, where one IPOB actor attempted to snatch a female soldier’s rifle.’’ “From the foregoing, the Armed Forces of Nigeria wish to confirm to the general public that IPOB from all intent, plan and purpose as analysed, is a militant terrorist organisation.” However, Buratai said the army did not categorize IPOB as terrorist organisation but that the Defence Headquarters just made a pronouncement. Buratai gave the statement while speaking during the official launch of Operation Python Dance II in Abakaliki. According to him, “You have to get it very clear. First of all, what the Defence Headquarters did was to make pronouncement. It wasn’t a declaration per se. But this has given room for the right step to be taken. I think the government is doing the right thing. “It is not that we are overstepping our bounds. We are still within the limits. And I ensure you that what the military said was to set the ball rolling and to bring the awareness to the public that this is what this organization is all about. I’m happy that the government has done the right thing right now.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/breaking-nigerian-army-denies-declaring-ipob-terrorist-organisation/ |

The Igbo Community Association in Kano state has dissociated itself from the activities of Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu. The President-General of the association, Chief Ebenezer Chima, made the position of the association known at a joint news conference in Kano on Friday. “We want to state categorically here that we, the Igbos residing and doing business in Kano state, unequivocally state that we dissociate ourselves from the activities of IPOB and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu. “We are strongly advocating for peace and unity in the land,” Chima said. While condemning “in its entirety’’ the unfortunate and avoidable crisis in Abia, he called on all Igbo resident in the state to remain calm as nothing would happen to them. According to him, the state government under the leadership of Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and security agents have given the assurance of adequate security of our lives and property. “However, we join the South-East governors, the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo and other notable Igbo leaders, to ask the Federal Government to address the issues of equality and even distribution of our common wealth. “This, we believe will bring an end to these agitations in the country.’’ On his part, President of Ethnic Community Leaders Association (ECLAK) in the state, Dr. Jimpat Ayelangbe, assured all non-indigenes of adequate security of their lives and property. He said the assurance stemmed from the meetings they had with various leaders and security agencies in the state. “ECLAK got the mandate to speak to the media by allaying fears of our people over the concern of their lives and property. “ECLAK is interested in a united Nigeria because we believe that those not living in their states of origin should not contribute to disorganise the country.’’ Ayelangbe commended the Northern states governors and their South-East counterparts and leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had constituted committees on restructuring. He called on his members and other Nigerians to avoid hate speeches in order to foster national unity. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/igbo-community-abandons-ipob-nnamdi-kanu-kano/ |

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has announced that soldiers from streets of Aba and Umuahia, the state capital. Ikpeazu announcing this in a media chat with Journalists in Umuahia on Thursday said that the reason for the withdrawal was as a result of intervention from well-meaning Abians and Nigerians. The governor disclosed that he was going to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari to urge him to suspend the planned Python Dance II exercise scheduled to commence later this month in the southeast and warned that the state wouldn’t entertain any form of agitation or protest on the streets of the state. Ikpeazu who warned members and sympathizers of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB to stop spreading false rumors urged residents to abide by the curfew throughout the period it would last. This is as he called for Part of his address read “Dear brothers and sisters, the security situation in the state in the past few days, which led to the deployment of soldiers into our state ahead of the Operation Python dance 11, has become of great concern to both the government and the citizenry. “After several interventions, I want to inform you that by tomorrow morning, there will be withdrawal of solders from the streets at Aba and Umuahia, apart from the pre-existing military checkpoints at various location in the state. “With the expected exit of soldiers from the streets, we must warn that we will not tolerate agitators and protesters taking over the streets for any reason at all. “I will also be meeting the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, to discuss possible ways of relaxing the Operation Python dance 11 in the state for now. “Our attention have been drawn to ugly incidences of attacks on police stations and military posts at Aba and Umuahia and we hereby warn that we will no longer tolerate that, and all other acts that are capable of causing insecurity in the state. “We have also observed illegal acts of throwing petrol bombs and setting up of bonfires to obstruct free movements along some roads by suspected miscreants and wish to warn that such acts should stop forthwith. “To mischief makers who want to use Abia as their base, let me announce to you that henceforth, Abia will be too hot for you to carry out your wicked acts as the government will work with security agents to ensure the protection of lives and properties in the state without fear or favor. There will be no hiding place for you. “At about midnight yesterday, we received security reports that hoodlums and miscreants, some of whom were allegedly brought into the state by unscrupulous individuals, were mobilizing around Uratta road at Aba with a view to converging at Ariaria International Market to burn it down. Their aim was obviously to take advantage of the security situation in the state to cripple the economy of the state and cause widespread suffering. “It was this group that originated the rumors of attacks and counter attacks around the area and also tried to create panic to force people out of their homes to enable them execute their evil intentions under the cover of orchestrated crises. “Thankfully their plan was nipped in the bud by the combined team of soldiers and policemen that promptly moved to the area and later positioned around Ariaria market to protect the lives and properties of our people. “We have it on good authority that the same group of hoodlums attempted to burn down the police station at Ariaria market early today and security agents are currently on the hunt for them and those outside the state who are sponsoring their evil actions. Not even one of them will escape the full weight of the law. “Members and sympathizers of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) should henceforth desist from spreading false rumors capable of throwing our state into disorder. Those spreading such falsehood will be dealt with, according to the Law. “My fellow Abians, it is in the interest of all our citizens and residents for full and total peace and security to return to our state immediately. No meaningful progress can be made in an atmosphere of violence and and anarchy. “Those at Aba are therefore advised to fully observe the current curfew in the city and ensure that they cooperate with security agents to maintain peace and order. “I swore to protect lives and properties of all Abians and residents and that I must do. I therefore call on all to support our efforts at making sure that lasting peace prevails in our dear state.” http://thenationonlineng.net/abia-announces-withdrawal-soldiers/ |
